Billy Baker
Billy Baker, age 70, passed away Monday evening, Aug. 23, 2004, at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial, Neb.
Survivors include mother Pearl Myers of Imperial, Neb.; daughter Laura Lee Carfield, Haigler, Neb.; son William Baker and wife Vicki, Wauneta, Neb.; son Randy Baker and wife Karen, Wauneta, Neb.; daughter Teresa Taylor and husband Alan, Venango, Neb.; son Daniel Baker and wife Darcy, DeWitt, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sisters Betty Weston and husband Mark, Henry, Neb.; Alvina Breese and husband, Dallis, Wauneta, Neb.
Funeral services for Billy Baker will be held Friday morning, Aug. 27, 2004, at 10 a.m. (MDT) at the United Methodist Church in Wauneta, Neb. with Pastor Judy Dye officiating.
Interment will follow at Riverside cemetery, Wauneta.
Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon, Aug. 26, 2004, from 2-6 p.m. (MDT) at the funeral home in Wauneta.
A memorial has been established in Billy's memory.
Liewer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Harold Greer
Harold Wayne Greer, son of Richard Green and Jennie Leona (Hockett) Greer was born in College Mound, Mo., on April 5, 1919 and departed this life at Imperial, Nebr., on Aug. 14, 2004 at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 9 days.
He grew up in the College Mound area and in his teen years moved to Southern Mo., near Ava, attending Mt. Zion Bible School. It was there he met the love of his life, Thelma Ruth Cooper and married her on June 9, 1940 in LaHarpe, Kan. To this union were born three daughters.
He was a veteran of World War II, and was on the high seas in route to Japan when VJ Day was declared. He served in Japan with the Occupational Forces, attaining the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged July 30, 1946.
Harold and Thelma lived in Calif. until 1946 and then moved to Tulsa, Okla. There he was employed as shop foreman for the Shoemaker Heating and Air Conditioning Company.
While in Tulsa, Harold attended the Church of God (Holiness) church, served as deacon and filled various other offices as needed. It was there that he began to feel God's call into the ministry. He served as lay pastor for a time before moving to the Overland Park, Kan. area in 1959. In 1960, he entered into the ministry full time, and pastored a church in Loveland, Colo. As an ordained minister he served congregations in Littleton, Colo.; Burlison, Tenn.; Meridian, Miss. and Oelrichs, S.D. He was also a member of the Church of God (Holiness) Home Mission Board.
In 1990, due to his severe hearing loss, but with deep sadness, Harold chose to resign his pastorate at Oelrichs, S.D. Upon his retirement Harold and Thelma moved to Enders, Neb.
Though retired, he continued to minister as he was needed. He was interim pastor at Lakewood, Colo.; Natoma, Kan.; Meridian, Miss. and Burlison, Tenn.
In 1992, Harold and Thelma moved to Wauneta, Neb. and lived there for 11 years. They moved to Imperial in August 2003 and resided there at the time of his death.
He is survived by Thelma, his wife of 64 years; his three daughters and their husbands, Evelyn and Ardean Ott of Lincoln, Juanita and Donny Whittecar of Chadron, Gloria and Daniel Marshall of Enders; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four nephews and two nieces.
His parents, three brothers, Orice, Keith and Leslie Greer and one sister J. Leona Whitehead preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Imperial with Rev. R.W. Skeen and Pastor Todd Burpo officiating.
Vocalists were the Daniel Marshall family and Lucille Skeen.
Tributes were given by children and grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Robert Salmons, Kendrick Marshall, Scott Kanode, Wendell Gruber, Dean Backes and Derek Kanode.
Honorary casketbearers were Haliegh Bernius, Hunter Bernius, Wesley Bernius, Dalton Cole, Dillon Cole, Abbie Doerhoff, Amanda Doerhoff, Brynna Gruber, Trevor Gruber, Cade Kanode, Chance Kanode, Rashae Kanode, Eric Salmons, Patrick Salmons, Myron James Tipton and Robby Tipton.
Military rites were by the American Legion Post #304, Wauneta, Neb.
Interment was in the Riverside cemetery, Wauneta, with Liewer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Harold Greer
Harold Greer, age 85, passed away Saturday evening, Aug. 14, 2004, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial.
Survivors include daughters Evelyn Ott, Lincoln, Neb.; Juanita Whittecar and husband Donny, Chadron, Neb., Gloria Marshall and husband Daniel, Enders, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Harold Greer will be Saturday afternoon, Aug. 21, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church with Pastor Todd Burpo and Rev. R.W. Skeen Sr. officiating.
Interment will follow at Riverside cemetery, Wauneta, Neb.
Visitation will be held Friday afternoon, Aug. 20, from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home in Imperial.

Sylvia Large
Sylvia Kay Large was born to Joseph and Gloria Greene at Chase County Community Hospital on Sept. 14, 1956. She grew up on the family farm 8.5 miles west of Imperial, Neb.
She delighted in being a farm girl and loved the land, the animals and her family.
She attended District 66 Grade School through first grade and then transferred to Imperial Elementary School and went on to Chase County High School graduating in 1975.
Sylvia loved music. She was a drummer and baton twirler in the Chase County High School band. Community activities included 4-H and Rainbow Girls. Sylvia received many honors for her work in these areas.
Her desire to teach took her to Kearney State College where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary education. While there she was a resident assistant.
Following graduation Sylvia taught kindergarten through fourth grade at District 66 for a period of four years.
While in high school and college Sylvia had been good friends with Dale Large. This friendship ultimately led to their union in marriage on Oct. 1, 1983. They initially lived on a farm west of Wauneta. Later they moved to their present home 8.5 miles west of Imperial.
Sylvia and Dale were excited to welcome three beautiful daughters into their lives-Alisha Ann, Kimberly Dawn and Samantha Jo.
Syliva joyfully embraced the responsibilities of family and farm life. Her teaching experience turned toward guiding her children. As a result of her 4-H projects and appreciation of art, Sylvia became an avid photographer. This activity evolved into a major vocation as she captured snapshots of life and important memories for family, friends and the community.
Sylvia also developed a part-time business with her sister Annette as an independent beauty consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics. She enjoyed enriching the lives of women.
Sylvia, 47, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 at Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.
Survivors include her husband Dale of Imperial; three daughters Alisha, Kimberly and Samantha, all of Imperial; her parents Joe and Gloria Greene of McCook; a sister Annette and husband James Hazuka of Monument, Colo. and her parents-in-law Marvin and Arlene Large of Imperial.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert Alan Greene.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Imperial, Neb. with Pastor Murray Schmechel and Rev. Stuart Pederson officiating.
Eulogy was by Annette Hazuka.
Music was Celine Dion-"The Power of Love"; Geoff Beemer, Lacey Beemer, Matt Vlasin, Crystal Large, Jeremy Vlasin, Stacy Large, Joel Grosbach, Andrea Large-"Wind Beneath My Wings"; Lacey Beemer-"My Heart Will Go On"; Jeremy Vlasin-"What A Difference You've Made In My Life"; with accompaniment by Mr. Randy Hayes.
Casketbearers were Doug Kunnemann, Dan Kunnemann, David Bauerle, Dan Rowley, Lloyd Smith and James Marlatt.
Honorary casketbearers were all nieces and nephews.
Interment was at Mount Hope cemetery, Imperial, Neb.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Vera Mendenhall
Vera Darlene (Dean) Mendenhall was born March 3, 1918, in Parks, Neb. to Rufus Cleveland and Dorothy Mae (Martin) Dean.
As a young girl she attended school in Benkelman, Neb. graduating from Benkelman High School in 1936.
Vera married Alvin Mendenhall on June 3, 1936, in Atwood, Kan. and to this union three children were born: daughter Laurel Lee Ellen and two sons Robert Lein and Kenneth Dale.
The couple lived in California for a short time after they were married . They then returned to Nebraska and made Ogallala their home for 40 years.
She moved to Imperial, Neb. in 1997 and had made the Imperial Manor her home since 1997.
Vera passed away Wednesday morning, July 28, 2004, at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial. She was 86 years of age.
Vera enjoyed sewing and caring for her favorite flowers, peonies. She also enjoyed assisting her brother Lein, in the operation of a bakery. They worked together for 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin, son Kenneth and brothers Lein, Clifford and Harold.
Survivors include daughter Laurel Lee Gassman and husband Tom of New Pork News, Va.; son Robert "Bob" Mendenhall and wife Judy of Champion, Neb.; five grandchildren: Anne Murray and husband Jim of Crystal Lake, Ill, Ed Gassman and wife Gabi of Dothan, Ala., Joe Gassman and wife Marianne of Glenside, Pa., Robin Hopp of Imperial and Robert Mendenhall Jr. and wife Lori of Imperial; 12 great grandchildren: Christina Gassman, Katie Murray, Joe Murray, Alysha Hopp, Elizabeth Gassman, Claire Gassman, Nicole Gassman, Sarah Gassman, Whitney Hopp, Logan Mendenhall, Jordan Hopp and Lindsey Mendenhall; brothers Doyle Dean and wife Marjorie of New Pork News, Va., Ben Dean and wife Ila of Bassett; sister Rosalee Holder of Littleton, Colo.
Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Hope cemetery, Imperial, Neb. with Pastor Giles Armstrong officiating.
Interment was at Mount Hope cemetery with Liewer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Fern Lantry
Fern Lantry, age 87, mother of Bruce Lantry, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Boulder, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard, son Ron, and two brothers.
She is survived by son Bruce and wife Joan of Imperial, one brother and three sisters.
Memorial services are planned for later in August.

Eloise Herrick
Eloise Mae Herrick, 82, widow of Maurice P., Sr., of Lincoln, died July 19, 2004 in Lincoln.
She was born Dec. 6, 1921 in Inavale, Neb. to Reid and Emma (Peterson) Dickerson.
She was a former deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church, a member of Lincoln OES Chapter #148, past Worthy Matron of OES Capitol Chapter #320, Original Board Member, Friends of Loren Eiseley and member of Stephen's Ministry.
Survivors include son, Philip Herrick of Lincoln; daughters, Emily Herrick of Lincoln, Rebekah Herrick of Tulsa, Okla.; brother and sister-in-law, Reid and Phyllis Dickerson of Grand Junction, Colo.; sister, Fay Dickerson, Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren, Dehnia Herrick, Elizabeth Herrick, Neal Franklin; nieces and nephews and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Services were held July 23, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church. Family interment was in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Memorials may be sent to Independence Center, Sesostris Shrine Transportation Fund (Road Runners) or the family.

Vera Mendenhall
Vera D. Mendenhall, 86, of Imperial died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.
All arrangements are pending.

Edward Greeley
Edward H. "Ed" Greeley, age 76, of Imperial died July 8, 2004 at Chase County Community Hospital.
Ed was born April 21, 1928 on the family farm in Hayes County, Neb. to Gordon and Ethel (Madison) Greeley.
He moved with his family to Chase County where he attended Lone Star School.
He married Marie Ott on Aug. 27, 1949.
He worked on various farms before moving back to the family farm in 1967. He moved into Imperial in 1977 where he owned and operated a mechanic shop until his retirement.
Due to failing health Ed moved to the Imperial Manor 10 years ago where he made his home until his death.
Ed loved kids, farming, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include three daughters; Mrs. Donnie (Marsha) Nichols of Danbury, Neb., Mrs. Jim (Sharon) Crown of Brady, Neb., and Mrs. Brian (Connie) Williamson of Missouri; one brother, Raymond and wife Bernita of Imperial; one sister, Shirley Clark of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four grandsons.
Funeral services were held July 12 at the United Methodist Church in Imperial with Rev. Murray Schmechel officiating.
Interment was at Mt. Hope cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Imperial Manor.
Casketbearers were Blake Feikert, James Crown, Jay Smith, Joel Smith, Chance Greeley and Bill Greeley.
Honorary casketbearers were Rick Crown, Tyler Vlasin, Donnie Nichols and Matt Davis.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
