Richard “Dick” Beideck

Richard “Dick” Beideck of McCook died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Bryan LGH-East Hospital in Lincoln.

On July 16, 1931, Dick was born in McCook the son of Jacob and Marie Katherine (Brehm) Beideck. He graduated from McCook High School in 1950.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 - 1954, and then took employment with Burlington Northern Railroad as a Conductor/Brakeman until he retired in 1992.

He married Joyce Foth of Ord, on June 24, 1956. To this union there were three children born.

He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, The Elks Club, American Legion and the VFW. Dick will be remembered as a man who enjoyed being with people, especially his family and grandchildren. His special interests were hunting, fishing, gardening, puttering in his garage, and going to coffee with the gang.

Survivors include his wife Joyce; daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Paul Sline of Plano, TX; two sons, John Beideck and daughter-in-law Gay of Kearney and Jeff Beideck of Omaha; five grandchildren, Jessica, Katherine, and Abigail Sline and Chase and Blake Beideck; a brother Jerry Beideck and wife Jean of McCook; nieces and nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Memorial Services were Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.

Roberta Wynn (Cariker) Bennett

Roberta Wynn Bennett of McCook died Sunday, October 2, 2005, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She was 42 years old.

Roberta was born on November 1, 1962, in McCook to Jerry and Dorothy (Carey) Cariker. She attended McCook Public Schools.

On April 25, 1993, she married Tom Bennett in McCook. She was employed as a visual associate in retail clothing. Roberta attended Memorial United Methodist Church. She loved floral design and was a gifted artistic. She loved the outdoors, especially gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Tom of McCook; her mother, Dorothy Waller of Estes Park, Colo.; step-son Josh Bennett of Lakeland, Fla.; step-daughter, Kisha Bennett both of Lakeland; brother, Jerry Cariker, Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska. and twin brother, Robert Cariker of Denver, Colo; and two sisters, Laurie Tucker of Loveland, Colo. and Linda Edmondson of Estes Park.

Roberta was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Cariker and her grandparents, Burton and Lena Carey of Palisade.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Funeral services were Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gregory S. Blackman

Greg Blackman, 35, died Sunday (March 14, 2004) at Indianola.

He was born February 7, 1969, to Carol (Stritt) Blackman and V. Gene Blackman in Kearney, NE. He graduated from Palisade High School in Colorado in 1987. He apprenticed as a sheet metal mechanic and enjoyed this as his trade. In November 1993, he was married to Joyce (Kensier) in Grand Junction, Colorado. To this union two children, Jordan and Breann, were born.

He returned to Nebraska making his home in Indianola since 1998. In June 2003, he married Traci Guthrie.

Greg's interests included a love of fishing, hunting, and CU football, but his real joy came from the time that he spent with his family, his children, and his friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Clarence Stritt and Victor Blackman.

Survivors include his parents, his wife Traci, daughters Jordan and Breann, step children, Tyler, Mason, Madison, & Trey; brother Kevin Blackman, wife Amber; nephew Victor; grandmothers Alyce Mae Stritt and Lee Blackman; special family friend Dave Fjelseth; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Services were held at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church on March 17, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. Burial was in St. Catherine’s cemetery with Father Nicholas Baker officiating.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Maya Michelle Blackman

Maya Michelle Blackman, infant baby, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005.

Maya was born October 14, 2005 in North Platte, to Jared Carson and Missy Michelle (Vrbas) Blackman.

She was preceded in death by maternal great-grandfathers, Van Peterson and Donald Vrbas; and uncle, Luke Blackman.

Survivors include her parents, Jared and Missy Blackman of Palisade; two brothers, Luke Carson and twin brother Matthew Jared; one sister Kenna Ward; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Tami Vrbas of Palisade; paternal grandparents, Carson and Jennifer Blackman of Roscoe; great- grandparents, Elaine Peterson of Palisade, Mary Lou Vrbas of Culbertson, Joyce and Dave Mickelson of Elk River, MN, J.C. “Bud” and Cena Graves of Ogallala; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorials can be given in her name.

Funeral services were Saturday, December 17, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at the Hamlet Union Church with Pastor Marshal Ericson officiating. Burial took place in the Palisade cemetery.

Norma Ellen (Troxel) Bodeman

Norma Ellen (Troxel) Bodeman was born December 23, 1923 to Charles Orley & Luella May(Bush) Troxel at their farm home three miles south of Wauneta. Norma departed this life March 16, 2005 at Imperial. She was a loving sister to Neoma Evelyn, Charles Robert and Nola Elaine. She and Neoma attended Sunny Side School three and one half miles south of Wauneta until the eighth grade and both attended Wauneta High School graduating in 1941. She then attended business college at Hastings. Norma was baptized into her Lord’s family at an early age.

Norma married Gerold Alfred Bodeman at Oberlin, KS on August 7, 1943. They made their home at farms north of Wauneta and Palisade before moving East of Palisade. Norma was a bookkeeper for Oger’s filling station in McCook, Hayes Center ASCS and receptionist for Dr. Ivan Lamb. Norma helped Gerold on the farm until they retired. Upon retirement they moved to their home in Palisade where she lived until her recent illness. They celebrated sixty one years of marriage August 7, 2004. Their home has always been open to relatives and friends.

She was a member of the Jolly Jane’s Club and the Beverly Aid until the last few years. She and Gerold loved to travel and spend time in their Arizona home during the winter months. She was devoted to her parents in their ailing years. Norma loved to embroidery and did much hand work while visiting them in the nursing home in Wauneta. She loved to bake and decorate cakes which graced many weddings and anniversaries of families and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; brother Charles Robert Troxel; sister Neoma Evelyn Miller; a sister-in-law Laverda Newberry and brother-in-laws Harley, Leland and Verle Bodeman.

She leaves to morn her passing, husband Gerold of Palisade; sister Nola and husband Harry Straub of Wauneta and brother-in-law Donald Miller of Denver; sister-in-law Fern and husband George Good of El Paso, TX ; brother-in-law Arlie and wife Pauline Bodeman of Portland, WA; uncle Talbert Bush of Greeley, CO; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Funeral services were Monday, March 21 at 2:00 P.M. (MST) at the Wauneta Church of Christ with Randy Hayes and Rick Eldred officiating. Burial took place in Riverside cemetery.

Jackie (Kotschwar) Boehm

Jackie Boehm, 69, of McCook died Friday, January 28, 2005 at her home in McCook.

She was born April 25, 1935 to Leo and Anastasia (Wasia) Kotschwar at Hayes Center. She graduated from McCook High School in 1952. She lived in this area most of her life.

On April 25, 1964 she married Charles B. Boehm in McCook.

She was the local office manager for the Volentine Foundation.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, McCook D.O.E.S. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and enjoyed time at the lake, her grandchildren, and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband (March 27, 2003); two brothers, Don and Vernon Kotschwar; six sisters, Shirley Slack, Thelma Duckworth, Alice Carlson, Ruth Vieth, Laurine Channel and Phyllis Traphagen.

Survivors include her daughter, Roxanne Arens and husband Kirk of York, PA; two brothers, Kent Kotschwar and wife, Phyllis of McCook and Stanley “Jiggs” Kotschwar and wife, Pat of Stratton; one brother-in-law Bob Vieth of Grand Island; one sister, LaVerna Ely and husband, Wayne of McCook; one sister-in-law, Cecilia Kotschwar of McCook; and two grandchildren, Greyson and Tucker Arens.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in her memory.

Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial was in Calvary cemetery.

Wilma L. (Diamond) Bone

Wilma L. Bone, 91, of McCook died, Monday (August 1, 2005) at her daughter’s home north of McCook.

She was born July 2, 1914 at Kensington, KS to Ray and Lottie (Chance) Diamond. She grew up at Herndon, attended and graduated from high school there. She had lived in McCook for 59 years.

She married Ralph Raymond Bone on Memorial Day in1935 in Hollywood, KS. To this union two daughters were born.

She was a member of First Congregational where she directed the first Junior Choir at the church. She enjoyed music, singing, playing the piano for weddings and funerals. She enjoyed gardening, all flowers especially roses. She was a caregiver for many people especially her family. She was also a member of the Burlington Northeran Railroad Auxillary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Lottie Diamond; husband Ralph; brother, Max Diamond; two sisters, Verna Grafel, and Delores Chambers.

Survivors include daughters Rosalie and husband Reuben Hoff of McCook, and Charlene and husband Ronald Miner of Lexington; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials can be given in her name to the McCook Hospice.

Funeral services were Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in McCook with Pastor Steve King officiating. Burial took place in Riverview cemetery.

Dawnn Denise (Blake) Bonebright

Dawnn Denise Bonebright died at her home in Lincoln on Sunday, September 19, 2004. She was 39 years old.

Dawnn was born on March 8, 1965, in McCook to Willard LaVern and MarraLee (McConnell) Blake. She graduated from McCook High School in 1983.

On March 29, 1985, she married Curtis Bonebright in Lincoln. To this union two sons were born. Dawn was employed as a housekeeper at Lincoln General Hospital for a number of years. For the past 12 years she was a secretary for First Step.

She was a Husker fan and collector of Husker memorabilia. She loved animals especially her dogs.

Her father, Willard Blake, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her mother, MarraLee McBee of McCook; two sons, Christopher and Nicholas Bonebright of Lincoln; four brothers, Terry Blake and wife, Wenda, of Denver, Kirt and Todd Blake of McCook, and Brian Blake of Denver; grandmother, Marjorie Hall of McCook; and 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

Memorials may be given in her name.

A memorial service was held Thursday, September 30, 2004, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln,

Also, a memorial service was held on Saturday, October 2, 2004, at Carpenter Breland Chapel, McCook, with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment took place at Memorial Park cemetery.

Elaine W. (Walter) Botts

Elaine W. Botts died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at McCook Community Hospital. She was 68 years old.

Elaine was born on July 1, 1936, at Lincoln to Raymond P. and Thelma T. (Teaford) Walter. She graduated from Curtis High School in 1954 and attended Colorado Women’s College in Denver, Colo. for two years.

On June 17, 1956, she married Dean Botts at Purdum, Nebr. To this union three children were born. They moved to the McCook community in 1975 where Elaine was a busy homemaker.

Elaine attended Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook. She enjoyed swimming at the YMCA, gardening, fishing and bird watching.

Preceding her in death were her father, Raymond Walter and one brother, Rodney Walter.

Survivors include her husband, Dean Botts of McCook; two sons, John Botts and wife, Colleen and Mark Botts all of McCook; one daughter, Lisa and husband, Kenneth Turner, of Skidmore, MO; her mother, Thelma Adams of McCook; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Funeral services were Friday, April 29, 2005, 11:00 a.m., at Purdum Church of Christ with Pastor Judy Cook officiating. Burial in the Purdum cemetery.

Timothy DeWayne Boyd

Timothy DeWayne Boyd died Thursday, September 30, 2004, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. He was 55 years old.

Tim was born on August 10, 1949, at McCook to Harold DeWayne and Dorothy Pauline (Walter) Boyd. He graduated from McCook High School in 1967, McCook Community College, and Park’s School of Business, Denver, CO with a degree in computers.

On May 5, 1973, he married Jennifer Lynn Stineman at Nelson. To this union three children were born. Tim worked with his father at Boyd’s Body Shop, later becoming the manager. He also worked for L & L Plumbing and Heating for five years. He retired in 1994 due to his poor health.

He had a love for the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed bowling, old cars and working with wood crafts.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Harold and Dorothy; and an infant brother, Russell “Rusty”.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer of McCook; daughter, Carrie and husband, Jon Johnson of McCook; two sons, Eric Boyd of Lincoln and Kevin Boyd of McCook; two granddaughters, Kerisa Boyd of Lincoln and Abigail Johnson of McCook; two sisters, Sandi and husband, James Pettera, of McCook and Sharon Colling of Tecumseh; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral service were Monday, October 4, 2:00 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery.
