Alexander Tate Hallowell

Alexander Tate Hallowell infant son of Robert Tate and Celeste Rael (Jordan) Hallowell died Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Preceding him in death were his paternal great-grandmother, Sissy Jordan and paternal great-grandparents, Edna Hallowell and Steve Phillips.

He is survived by his parents; Tate and Celeste Hallowell of McCook; siblings Jadine and Dalton Hallowell of the home; maternal grandparents, Rick Jordan of Omaha and Pam Jordan of Colorado Springs, CO and Carolina and Frank Mendez of Guadalupe, AZ; paternal grandparents include, Bob and Dorla Hallowell of Blaine, MN and Mike and Dr. Corinne Phillips-Ward of McCook; maternal great-grandparents, George Jordan of Kansas City, KS and Felipa Maldonado of Guadalupe, AZ; paternal great-grandparents, Alfred Hallowell and Teny Phillips both of McCook.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Breck R. Gillen

Breck R. Gillen, infant child of Bradley W. and Wendy L. (Hampton) Gillen died August 19, 2006 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Survivors include parents, Brad and Wendy of McCook; siblings Spencer, Zayne, Jenna and Jett; grandparents, Wayne and Arlene Gillen of McCook, Rich and Hilda Hampton of Culbertson and Carrie and Wendell Klock of of North Platte.

A graveside interment took place Saturday at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.

Sally C. (DeAlba) Garcia

Sally C.Garcia, died Wednesday (July 26, 2006) at McCook Community Hospital.

She was born April 6, 1919 to Francisco and Lucia (Hurtado) De Alba in San Julian Jalisco, Mexico. On February 28, 1941 she married Bonifacio Garcia in Tempe Arizona.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Lucia; three sisters, and four brothers.

Survivors include son, Joe Garcia and wife, Gloria of McCook, one brother, Joe De Alba; four sisters, Belen RoyBal, Amy Mora, Virginia Salazar, and Connie De Herrera, all of Denver; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Lupe Gil of Abilene, Kansas; brother-in-law, Ben Garcia and wife, Marlene of McCook; and many friends and neighbors.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Rosary was July 27, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, July 28, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour as Celebrant. Burial took place in the Calvary cemetery.

Jacquelin Jean Gallatin

Jacquelin “Jackie” Jean Gallatin, 78, of McCook, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Jackie was born on February 25, 1928, at Bartley, NE to John Ellsworth and Helen Ann (Hoffstrand) Gallatin. She attended school at Danbury. In later years she moved to Lincoln and worked in the Lancaster Office of Mental Retardation Workshops. She did factory and piece work contracts. She also learned how to file and collate papers with 90 percent accuracy. She attended GED classes in Lincoln and later McCook when she retired.

Jackie’s hobbies included Special Olympics, winning numerous awards and ribbons in bowling, in both county and state level. One year, she and her team, attended the National Championship in Huntsville, Alabama where they won first place.

She returned to McCook where she was a member of the Swatter’s 4-H Club. She was active in many projects for the county fair and community. At home, Jackie liked to embroidery, watch TV, travel with her family, and go to fairs and town celebrations.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Helen Gallatin and step-mother, Ina (McDonald) Gallatin.

Survivors include her brother, Dwight Gallatin and wife, Susanna, of McCook; two sisters, Sandra Gallatin of McCook and Bonnell and husband, Waldo Carfield, of Aurora, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, family, and a host of friends.

Memorial may be given in her name to Special Olympics.

Funeral services were on Thursday, December 28, 2006, 2:00 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Pastor Jon Albrecht officiating. Burial took place in Riverview cemetery.

Henry Mathias Fossen

Henry “Hank” Mathias Fossen died Monday, April 10, 2006, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, he was 92.

He was born May 16, 1913 to Peter and Jennie (Keegan) Fossen in Red Willow County.

He married Pauline Stritt on October 17, 1945 in Indianola. To this union four children were born, Kenneth, Clarence, Larry, and Marcia. He farmed northeast of Indianola until 1985, when they moved into Indianola.

He was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; his parents, Peter and Jennie; three brothers, Charles, Clarence, and Carl; son-in-law, Jeff Sughroue; and daughter-in-law Lavon Fossen.

Survivors include his sons, Kenneth Fossen and wife, Connie of Omaha, Clarence ”Topper”, of Indianola, and Larry Fossen and wife, Jill of Chaska, Minn; daughter, Marcia Sughroue of Indianola; brother, Leo Fossen of Sarasota, Fl; sister, Helen Walker of Bristol, IN; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Memorials can be given in his name.

Rosary was April 12, 2006 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, with the Funeral Mass following. Funeral services were Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with Father Paul Witt officiating.

Burial took place in St. Catherine’s cemetery in Indianola.

Roselyn Delois (Helm) Fitzgerald

Roselyn Delois Fitzgerald of Danbury died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at the Cambridge Hospital. She was 75 years old.

Roselyn was born on May 5, 1931, in a farm house northeast of Indianola to Paul A. and Mary Alice (Walton) Helm. She completed her elementary education in rural schools and high school in Indianola, graduating in 1948. She left three weeks later to attend college at St. Mary’s in Leavenworth, Kansas for her nurses training prerequisites. From there she finished nurses training at Providence Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas graduating in 1951.

She returned to Nebraska and worked at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook. From there she traveled to Portland, Oregon to join a classmate of nurses training. She worked in Pediatrics and later took a job as camp nurse at Sandy, Oregon.

She sang briefly with the Portland Symphonic Choir before meeting and marrying Gary E. Fitzgerald of The Dalles, Oregon on August 10, 1955. Their two daughters, Tina Marie and Theresa Ann were born in Portland. They moved to the coastal town of Reedsport, Oregon and became parents of a son, Martin (Marty) Joseph. She lost her husband, Gary on February 26, 1965.

She and her children moved back to Nebraska to be near her parent’s farm south of Indianola. She went to work in Cambridge in the fall of 1965. She married Boyd Burdette Crocker on June 22, 1966. He suffered a fatal heart attack in October of that year. She became employed as a school nurse for Dundy, Hitchcock and Chase counties. She ultimately moved to Larned, Kansas and worked the last 16 years of her nursing career at Larned State Mental Hospital.

Roselyn was a member of the National Nurses Association for the 46 years she spent as a nurse. She maintained nurses’ licenses in Nebraska, Oregon, and Kansas. She was a life-time member of American Legion Auxiliary and NAMI. She loved music, the theater, dance, her country and God. She was a life-time crusader for the sick, mentally ill, handicapped and the oppressed.

Proceeding her in death were her parents; her husbands, Gary Fitzgerald and Boyd Crocker her grandparents; and one aunt.

Survivors include her son, Martin J. Fitzgerald of Larned, Kansas; two daughters, Tina Schultz and husband, Dave, of Danbury, Theresa Fitzgerald of Everett, WA; sister, Julia Hoskins and husband, Donald of Jackson, OR; grandson, Gary Schultz and wife, Kellie of Danbury; two granddaughters, Hilary Schultz of New York, Jenna Fitzgerald of Everett, WA; great-granddaughter, Lillie Schultz; niece, Angie Killian of Montana; nephew, Mike Hoskins of Illinois; and their families; and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the charity of choice.

Memorial services were Friday, September 29, 2006 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home. Inurnment took place in Willamette National cemetery in Portland, Oregon, next to her husband, Gary.

Everett George Fisher

Everett George Fisher of Oberlin, KS, originally of McCook, died Friday, December 15, 2006 at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin. He was 84 years old.

Everett was born on December 26, 1921, in Lebanon, NE to Andrew George and Bessie Elizabeth (Hiatt) Fisher. He grew up in the Cambridge community.

On August 27, 1942, he entered the US Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1946.

He married Florence McDowell in Oberlin, KS on October 31, 1944. To this union three children were born. They made their home in McCook where they were owners and operators of Fisher Produce. When their health failed they moved to Decatur Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin. Florence preceded him in death on April 13, 2005.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Andrew and Bessie Fisher; his wife, Florence Fisher; brother, Eldwin Fisher; and one sister, Ella DeMark.

Survivors include his son, Harold Fisher and his wife, Diane, of Culbertson; two daughters, Colleen Geihsler of Oberlin and Cheryl and husband, Dale Stewart, of Indianola; one brother, Andrew Fisher, Jr. and wife, Dorothy, of Gretna; two sisters, Mary and husband, Marty Maranville, of Sedona, AZ and Erma Hisel of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Funeral services were at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating on Monday, December 18, 2006.

Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery.

Charles W. Fickle

Charles W. Fickle, formerly of Culbertson, died Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at Haven Home in Kenesaw. He was 82.

Charles was born December 23, 1923 to James T. and Opal L. (Watt) Fickle at Lima, Ohio. He graduated from Shawnee High School, in Lima, in 1942.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1942. After he was honorably discharged in 1946, he worked for several businesses as a truck driver until 1975. He then started working for Dayco Rubber Hose Plant until he retired in 1985.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Opal Fickle; and three sisters, Helen, Mary and Icie.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann of McCook; daughter, LeAnn Frick and husband, Elmer of McCook; sons, Dale Fickle and wife, Virginia, of Culbertson, James Fickle and wife, Kathy, of Bartley, Charles Fickle of Escondido, Calif.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Memorial services were Monday, November 6, 2006, at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment took place in the Culbertson cemetery with military honors.

Leota Ruth (Wagner) Eden Cornwell

Leota Ruth Cornwell, age 86, died June 17, 2006, at the Maranatha Village in Springfield, Missouri.

Leota was born September 13, 1919 at Coffeyville, Kansas, to Fred and Mary (Wilson) Wagner. She attended school in Coffeyville, Kansas.

She married Dale Kenneth Eden on September 20, 1936, at Rev. Victor Greisen’s home in Coffeyville. Two children were born of this union, Donna and Howard. She was a dedicated pastor’s wife and teacher. She worked in the kitchen at church camps from 1949 until the death of her husband in March of 1979. Together they pastured in Elkhart, KS, Edgemont, SD, Bayard, Columbus, Lexington, and McCook, NE.

She remained involved, starting & conducting "Prime-Timers" for several years.

She married Harold Cornwell in 1987, when they moved to Thedford. She became the step-mother of Ken, Sharon, and Nyla. Here, once again, she formed a new "Prime-Timers" organization, remaining active through her entire stay in Thedford.

She experienced the loss of her second husband, Harold Cornwell, on October 30, 1995. She kept her residence in Thedford yet another nine years, until moving to Maranatha Village, assisted-living in Springfield, MO on July 15, 2004.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dale Eden and Harold Cornwell; parents, Fred and Mary; daughter, Donna; brothers, George and Billy Wagner; sister, Betty Platte; half-brothers, Henry, Fred, Joe and Cecil Wagner and Oscar, Roy, and Elvin Baker; and half-sisters, Belle and Rose Wagner and Mary Baker.

Survivors include her son, Howard Eden of Dunseith, North Dakota; step-son, Ken Cornwell of Lincoln; step-daughters, Sharon Cornwell of Omaha and Nyla Blauvelt of Casper, Wyoming; brother, James Wagner of Wichita, Kansas; son-in-law, Ivan Kloefkorn of Dickinson, North Dakota; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild..

Memorials may be given in her name.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the Assembly of God Church in McCook with Rev. Ron Blauvelt officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery.

Ruthella Theda (Carter) Jones

Ruthella Theda Jones died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at McCook Community Hospital. She was 85 years old.

Ruthella was born January 30, 1921, to George and Theda (Poore) Carter in Red Willow County. She attended Red Willow School, McCook Junior College and Kearney State College.

She married John Francis Jones in McCook on September 22, 1940. To this union five children were born.

She was a member First Congregational Church, Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and Good Sam’s Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Theda; husband, John on January 27, 2004; two grandchildren, Franklin Marts, Rhonda Jones; two brothers, Robert and Theo; daughter-in-law, Linda Jones; son-in-law. Paul Smidt

Survivors include her son, Ronald of Golden, Colorado; daughters, Leanna Smidt, of Greeley, Colorado, Theda Stanley and husband Dale of Wilsonville, Paula McArthur and husband John of McCook, Robin Wonderly and husband Jerry of Bartley; sister, Alice Driscoll of Kearney; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and five great-great- grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Funeral services were at the First Congregational Church on Saturday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Steve Bales officiating.

Burial took place at Memorial Park cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
