April Rose (Hamilton) Redfield

April Rose Redfield of McCook died Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln as a result of a car accident. She was 22 years old.

She was born May 15, 1984 in Grant to Mark Eugene and Heather Rose (Gobble) Hamilton. She grew up and attended school in McCook.

April married Chancelor “Chance” Redfield in McCook on June 11, 2005. To this union two daughters were born. She was a homemaker and busy mother. She loved playing with her children; scrap booking, photography and playing pool with her sister Shanna.

She was preceded in death by grandparents Eugene Hamilton, Lois (Hamilton) O’Neil and husband Marvin O’Neil; great-grandparents, Shorty & Mary Hamilton and great-grandmother, Rose Hardy.

Survivors include: her husband Chance and two daughters, Aliyah Rose and Kelsey Lea of McCook; her parents: mother, Heather and Paul Younger of McCook and father, Mark Hamilton of Wauneta; step-mother, Marci Hamilton of Stratton; four sisters, Shanna Hamilton of Wauneta, Chynna Younger of McCook, Tasha Hamilton and Alexandria Hamilton both of Stratton; two brothers, Kyle Lambert of McCook and Gregory Younger of McCook; grandparents, Donna and Roger Miller of McCook and Larry and Linda Gobble of Mt. Home, AR; aunts and uncles Roger and Marla Hamilton of Imperial and Lynn and Char Hamilton of Hayes Center, Teresa & Brian Thomas of McCook, David and Theresa Gobble of Lakewood, CO., Jennifer & Jim Bartlett of Brighton, CO. and special aunt and Godmother, Amy and Dustin Limbach of Kearney.

Memorials may be given in her name. Friends and family may sign her book at the funeral home or may go on-line at www.carpenterbreland.com and leave condolences.

Her body was cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Republican Valley Event Center, Kelly Creek Pub ~ Back Patio with Rev. Richard Bryant officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Eileen Ruth (Miller) Randel

Eileen Ruth Randel, 66 of Indianola, died Friday, March 31, 2006 in Lincoln County, south of North Platte, as a result of a car accident.

She was born January 5, 1940 in Culbertson to John W. and Martha (Wagner) Miller. She grew up in Culbertson where she graduated from high school in 1957.

She attended Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics at Chappell High School for two years and then taught at McCook High School from the fall of 1963 to the spring of 1967.

On June 13, 1965, she married Clifford Eugene Randel at the Culbertson Evangelical United Brethren Church. They made their home northeast of McCook. To this union three children were born, Michelle, Loretta and Brad. Eileen was instrumental in their farming and ranching business. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren and was very involved in their daily lives.

She was a member of the Indianola Church of Christ and attended McCook Christian Church. She was active in the Red Willow Ladies Club and the Red Willow County Extension Council.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents and also her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leon and Dorothy Randel.

Survivors include her husband Clifford of Indianola; daughters, Michelle Larington and husband, Dan, of Indianola and Loretta Hauxwell and husband, Brent, of McCook; a son, Brad Randel and wife Adrienne of Indianola; five grandchildren, Sara and Dane Larington, Kylee and Lexi Hauxwell and Addison Randel; two brothers, Donald Miller and wife, Gwen, and Roland Miller and wife, Jeannette, all of Culbertson; two sisters, Joan Hesterwerth and husband, Robert, of McCook and Lois Bartusiak and husband, Ray, of Littleton, CO; brother-in-law, Raymond Fisher and wife, Patsy, of Indianola; and many niece and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are being accepted in her name.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m. at McCook Christian Church with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Burial will be in the Indianola cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 – 8 p.m. and Monday 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. or friends may also send condolences online at www.carpenterbreland.com

Larry D. Rakes

Larry D. Rakes, McCook, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln. He was 57 years old.

Larry was born on November 10, 1948, to Harold A. and Dorothy L. (Greenwood) Rakes at Nebraska City. He graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1967.

On September 22, 1967, he married Leah S. Smalley. To this union two children, Ginger and Lance were born. They moved to the McCook community in 1974. In November of 1967, Larry was employed with Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad. He continued working for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for over 37 years.

He was a member of McCook Christian Church, National Rifle Association (NRA) and Nebraska city Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and playing cards. He also enjoyed all sports including croquet, basketball, baseball, and watching car racing. His main love was his family, as well as spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Harold and Dorothy Rakes; paternal grandparents, Charles and Marie Rakes; maternal grandparents, Flave and Flora Greenwood; mother-in-law, Lila Shafer; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Smalley.

Survivors include his wife, Leah Rakes of McCook; daughter, Ginger and husband, Allan Mitchell, of Gering; son, Lance Rakes and wife, Mandi, of McCook; father-in-law, Leonard Smalley of Scottsbluff; two brothers, Lonnie Rakes and wife, Ramona, of Nebraska City and Lynn Rakes and wife, Denise, of Cambridge; one brother-in-law, Lyle and wife, Peg Smalley, of McCook; four grandchildren, Kerissa, Santanna, and Arianna Mitchell and Konor Rakes; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name to the American Heart Association.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 6, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at McCook Christian Church with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Que Quigley

Que Quigley, 81, passed away at his residence in Pensacola, FL on July 30, 2006.

Que was born on June 19, 1925, on a farm near Indianola, NE. His parents were B. Adrian and Fern (Duckworth) Quigley.

Que attended school in Indianola, graduating in 1942. After working in a Seattle shipyard for about a year he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, being discharged in 1946.

In 1945 Que and Clarice Frank were married in Seattle, WA. He was employed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in 1946 and except for a Navy tour during the Korean Conflict, worked for that organization until his retirement in 1982. He worked for the Bureau in Indianola and McCook, NE, Yakima, WA, and Boise, ID.

Clarice preceded him in death in 2002, a few days before their 57th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by one daughter, Jo Ann Frank, two grandchildren, Jill Woods and Jeffrey Q. Lewis, and one great granddaughter, Erin Woods, all of Salem, OR. Other survivors include two brothers, Dean (Donna) of Seattle, WA, and Hale (Dolores), and one sister, Marilyn Austin of Pensacola, FL. He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Kendall (Gladys) of Pensacola, FL.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Inurnment will be at the Indianola cemetery, September 15, 2006 at 10 AM.

Evelyn Effie (Witt) Ploussard

Evelyn Effie Ploussard died Monday, November 20, 2006. She was 94.

Evelyn was born in Red Willow County on January 25, 1912 to William and Lizzie (Mumby) Witt. She was the youngest of ten children. She attended country school through the eighth grade.

On the evening of August 12, 1933 she married Frank J. Ploussard at a judge’s house in Oberlin. She and her husband lived on the same farm that she was born until 1952, when they moved to McCook. In 1953, they moved to their farm in Decatur County, Kansas. He retired due to health, and they moved back to McCook in December 1964. She resided in their home on East 4th until the fall of 1995 when she moved into Highland Park and then later into Hillcrest.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church since 1947. She had several hobbies, including crocheting and embroidering, she also enjoyed her cats and baking cookies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lizzie; husband, Frank (January 28, 1981); five brothers, Fred, Frank, Bert, Milton, and Clarence; three sisters, Ethyl Woods, Florence Wade, and Lulu Huntley.

Survivors include over 50 nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in her name to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or Highland Park.

Rosary will be Friday, November 24, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour as Celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. until the time of the rosary.

Fern A. (Frick) Pisar Sutton

Fern A. Sutton, age 86, died Tuesday (October 10, 2006) at Cambridge Court in Kearney.

She was born May 2, 1920, on a farm north of Ludell, Kansas to John Henry and Lillian A. (Most) Frick. She attended rural school near Ludell and then Atwood Schools.

On November 30, 1942, she married Harry Pisar at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in McCook. To this union two children were born. He preceded her in death in 1970. On April 20, 1974, she married Jack D. Sutton in McCook. He preceded her in death in 1989.

She was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and Altar Society. She was also a member of the McCook BPOE Does, PEO GY, and the Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered for many years as a Pink Lady. Fern enjoyed golfing, gardening, canning, traveling, and playing cards with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian Frick; her husbands, Harry Pisar and Jack Sutton; one step-daughter, Mary Dodot; granddaughter; Desiree Dodot; and two brothers, Robert and Gene Frick.

Survivors include her son, John Pisar and wife, Lynn, of Spokane, Wash.; daughter, JoAnn DeJonge and husband, Dennis, of Kearney; step-children, Paul Sutton and wife, Marie, John Sutton and wife, Lori, all of McCook, Charles Sutton and wife, Diane, of Westminster, Colo., Robert Sutton of Cle Elum, Wash.; four sisters, Vera Moorman of Sulfur Spring, Ark., Betty Olita of Cordova, Tenn., Irene Stumbo of Kearney, and Ruby Rice and husband, Phil, of Ponca City, Okla.; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday morning until noon at the funeral home. Friends may send condolences to www.carpenterbreland.com.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 13, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Sam Williams and Pastor John Gosswin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Larry Lee Payton

Larry Lee Payton died Thursday (July 13, 2006) at McCook Community Hospital. He was 58 years old.

Larry was born October 10, 1947 to Denzel and Ruth (Lorimer) Payton in McCook. He graduated from Atwood High School in Atwood, Kansas.

He married Judy K. Willey in Arapahoe on May 29, 1967. To this union four children were born, Brian, Justin, Angela and Dawn.

He worked in oil fields for over 27 years in the Kansas, Nebraska area. Larry worked at McCook Community College from 1988 until 1999 when he had to leave the job he loved do to heath reasons. He enjoyed his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, woodworking, reading and cats.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Denzel and Ruth; brother Ronnie Payton; step-father, Bernard Vrbas.

Survivors include his wife Judy Payton; sons, Brian Payton and wife, Mary and Justin Payton; daughters Angela Payton and Dawn Kalinski and husband, Troy all of McCook; brother, Gary Payton and special friend, Paula from New Mexico; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials can be given in his name.

His was cremated, there will be no visitation. Friends and family may sign his book at the funeral home or send condolences online at www.carpenterbreland.com

Memorial services will be Monday, July 17, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Wright officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park cemetery.

Beverly Jean (Nelson) North

Beverly Jean North, died Sunday (August 27, 2006) at Premier Estates Senior Living in North Platte, after a long battle with cancer. She was 69.

She was born March 13, 1937 to Lillian Maxine (Nelson) May at Alexis, Illinois. She graduated from Yates City (Illinois) High School in 1956.

She was married for 31 years to David North. To this union, six children were born, Cindy, Debbie, Theresa, Sandy, Vicki and Kevin. She worked part time as a librarian for a short time. She was a homemaker and mother, and enjoyed animals, flowers, and drawing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Theresa Ann Wilson.

Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Forbes and husband, Joe of Platteville, Wisconsin, Debbie Wild and husband, Todd of Hampstead, North Carolina, Sandy North of Elkorn, Wisconsin, and Vicki North of Barneveld, Wisconsin; son, Kevin North of Osawatomie, Kansas; brother, Ira May of Austin, Texas; sisters, Carroll Lea Beloit of Canton, Illinois, Charlotte (Taylor) Ackerman of Peoria, Illinois; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name

Private family Graveside services will be Thursday, August 31, 2006, at Memorial Park cemetery at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Eddie Wright officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

E. Mabel (Morgan) Nielsen

E. Mabel Nielsen died Saturday (June 3, 2006) at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 73 years old.

She was born October 29, 1932 in Longmont, Colorado to Floyd Herbert and Juanda Irene (Johnson) Morgan. She grew up and graduated from Longmont High School in 1950. She attended Hastings College and graduated in 1955. She lived most of her life in Hastings and had moved to McCook a year and a half ago.

She had worked for Keith Pharmacy of Hastings for many years and also did many hours of volunteer work. She was a member of the Hastings First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1996; one son in infancy; brothers, Lowell, Elmer, Thaine; sister-in-law Betty Morgan, Shirley Schroeder and Joyce Nielsen; and brother-in-law Dean Peterson.

Survivors include: son, Greg Nielsen and wife Valerie of Grand Island; daughter, Rebecca Nielsen of McCook; brothers, Richard Morgan and wife Shirley of Kenai, Alaska, Charles Morgan of Bellevue, Colorado; brother-in-law Dean Schroeder of Lincoln; sister-in-law Audrey Peterson of Lincoln; grandchildren Jacob, Kaleb, Zachary, Elizabeth, Morgan, Makaila and Erik; many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings, the Holt International Children’s Services or a charity of your choice.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m. at McCook Christian Church with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later time.
