Dr. John Carlson Grove

Dr. John Carlson Grove died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at North Platte Great Plains Regional Medical Center as a result of a massive heart attack. He was 51 years old.

Dr. Grove was born on November 25, 1955, in Omaha to Vel and Amy B. (Carlson) Grove. He graduated from Benson High School in 1974. He furthered his education at Washington University in St. Louis and the UN Medical Center in Omaha.

On March 18, 1983, he married Marilee M. Sieh in Kearney, WI. To this union two children were born. They made their home in McCook where Dr. Grove was a family practitioner at the McCook Clinic and later in Minden.

Dr. Grove’s hobbies included photography, computers, vintage cars, gardening and spending time with his children and two dogs, Dudley and Chloe.

Preceding him in death were his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Survivors include his wife, Marilee Grove of McCook; children Amy and Stephen Grove of McCook; parents, Vel and Amy Grove of Omaha; father and mother-in-law, Clayton and Jean Sieh of Hayward, WI; two brothers, Timothy Grove and wife, Colleen, of Omaha and Paul Grove and wife, Karen, of Bennington; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, Omaha, with Pastor Irving Malm officiating. Burial was in Westlawn Hillcrest cemetery.

William Edward Green, Sr

William “Bill” Edward Green, Sr. of McCook, died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was 86 years old.

Bill was born at Edgar, Nebraska to Guy I. and Grace (Hart) Green. He graduated from Edgar High School, the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

He married Arline N. Kramer in Washington, D.C., on April 17, 1943. To this union six children were born.

Bill entered the US Navy on January 31, 1945 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on April 9, 1946.

Bill retired from the FBI after 27 years of service as a Special Agent. He served as Chief of Police for McCook for four years. He also taught Law Enforcement at McCook and North Platte Community Colleges. Bill had a deep respect for law enforcement. In his free time, he greatly enjoyed agriculture and music.

Bill was a member of the First Congregational Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No.135A.F. & A. M. at McCook where he received his 60 year membership award in May of 2004. He was a member of all York Rite Bodies of McCook, member of Tehama Temple Mystic Nobles of the Shrine at Hastings, Eureka Chapter No. 86, Order of the Easter Star at McCook.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Guy and Grace Green; his wife, Arline Green on March 24, 2007; an infant son; and son-in-law, Dennis Lem.

Survivors include his children, Barbara Lem of Pleasant Hill, CA, William “Bill” Green, Jr. and wife, Sally, of Richland, WA, Peggy Mason of North Platte, Patty and husband, Tom Howard, of Derby, KS and Michael Green and wife, Beverly, of McCook; ten grandchildren, Ronald Swasey, Brian Swasey, Andrea Green, Melanie (Michael) Whitmore, Tiffany Mason, Robert “Zachery” (Cynthia) Mason, Julia (Stefan) Howard Hötzl, Cassandra (Mark) Harrison, Matthew (Constance) Green and Nicole Green; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the First Congregational Church or McCook Senior Center.

Funeral services were Friday, June 22, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church in McCook with Pastor Steve Bales officiating. Burial took place in Fort McPherson National cemetery, Maxwell, at 2:00 p.m.

Arline N. (Kramer) Green

Arline N. Green, age 84, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at McCook Community Hospital.

She was born June 6, 1922 to Lester L. and Nell M. (Mader) Kramer at Grand Island, Nebraska. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1939, and McCook Community College in 1975.

She married William E. Green on April 17, 1943 in Washington D.C.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, Past President Nebraska PTA, and many school organizations, Adult Basic Education at McCook College, Post Matron of Order of Eastern Star, and an avid bridge player.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son; sister, Velma Morgan; and brother-in-law, Dwight “Lavere” Morgan.

She is survived by her husband, William; children, Barbara Kay Lem of Pleasant Hill, CA, William E. Green, Jr. and wife, Sally “Chris” of Richland, Wash., Peggy Arline Mason of North Platte, Patty Ann Howard and husband, Tom of Derby, Kansas, Michael James Green and wife, Bev of McCook; niece, Diane L. Moran and husband, Terry; nephew, Dwight L. Morgan; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at First Congregational Church with Pastor Steve Bales officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

Dorothy K. (Weskamp) Graff

Dorothy K. Graff of McCook died Saturday, April 7, 2007 at Community Hospital. She was 92 years old.

Dorothy was born on January 26, 1915 at Indianola to Henry J. and Mabel (Williams) Weskamp. She attended school in Danbury and graduated from high school in 1934.

On August 31, 1940, Dorothy married Martin Graff, Jr. in McCook. They resided in McCook except for their 15 year residence in Denver, CO. She was a homemaker and also worked for Safeway Groceries for 20 years.

Dorothy was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She enjoyed baking, gardening, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry and Mabel Williams; her husband, Martin Graff, Jr. on January 9, 2007; one brother, Elmer Weskamp; and one sister, Vernice Weskamp.

Survivors include her daughter, Verlene K. and husband, Steven Reed, of Plano, TX; three sons, Stanley M. Graff and wife, Diana, of Scottsdale, AZ, Kenneth M. Graff, and wife, Kathy, of Denver, CO and Richard H. and wife, Anita, of McCook; sister, Elsie Sullivan of McCook; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the McCook Heritage Senior Center or Memorial United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery.

Martin Graff

Martin Graff, Jr. age 90, of McCook died Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln.

Martin was born on February 6, 1916, in Lincoln to Martin and Marie (Moul) Graff, Sr. He moved with his family to Culbertson where he attended school.

He entered the US Army on December 23, 1942 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945.

On August 31, 1940, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Weskamp in McCook. To this union four children were born. Martin was employed by the Railway Express then for the Burlington Northern as a car inspector. He then transferred to Denver, CO in the early 1960’s, moving his family to Denver in 1967. He retired from the railroad in 1981, moving his family back to McCook in 1982.

He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, McCook Elks Lodge and the VFW.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Martin and Marie Graff; two brothers, George and Fred Graff; and seven sisters, Elizabeth Kohn, Marie Cappel, Anna Cappel, Minnie Welch, Rose Knuttie, Frieda Burgess and one in infancy; and son-in-law, David Michener.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Graff of McCook; three sons, Stanley M. Graff and wife, Diana, of Phoenix, AZ, Kenneth M. Graff and wife, Kathy, of Denver, CO and Richard H. Graff and wife, Anita, of McCook; one daughter, Verlene K. and husband, Steven Reed, of Plano, TX; two sisters, Katherine Ciochini of Hartford, CT and Pauline Munhenkle of Joplin, MO; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Funeral services were Monday, January 15, 2007, at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, with The Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Verle Glee

Verle Glee passed away on his 82nd birthday, April 1, 2007. Graveside service were held at the Hayes Center cemetery on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 10:00am.

Agnes I (Tessman) Funk

Agnes I. Funk died Friday, January 12, 2007, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was 87 years old.

Agnes was born on July 15, 1919 at Eldorado, Nebraska to Jacob and Aganetha (Klippenstein) Tessman. In 1941, when Agnes was 22 years old, she left Nebraska and moved to California. Agnes worked in cafes and hotels before getting a job at the Navy dry dock.

On October 21, 1944, she married Maurice Funk in Tijuana, Baja California Norte, Mexico. They moved to Catskill, New York in 1946 after Maurice was discharged from the Navy. They later moved to Michigan. Agnes was employed at Great Lake Steel Company. In 1951, the family moved back to Nebraska near Hastings and Agnes became employed with the ammunition depot. When new job opportunities became available for Maurice in 1956, the family moved to Massena, New York and later to Albany, New York.

In March of 1960, Agnes with her four children moved back to Nebraska. She lived in Culbertson and worked in cafes. She moved to McCook in 1967 and became employed at Hillcrest Nursing Home and worked there until her retirement in 1978.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jacob and Aganetha Tessman; one infant son, Malcolm Funk; four brothers, Jack, Frank, David and Henry Tessman; and six sisters, Martha Rath, Marie Peters, Rosalie Porath, Anne Korell, Hazel Korell, and Helen Cook.

Survivors include her son, Bernard Funk and wife, Rose, of Syracuse, Utah ; three daughters, Judith Leone of Tucson, AZ, Marilynn and husband, Tom O’Neil, of McCook and Charlene and husband, Rick Buckley, of McCook; one sister, Irene Pope of McCook; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name.

A Memorial service was on Monday, January 15, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Inurnment will be in the Culbertson cemetery.

Sylvester D. Fuchuck

Sylvester D. Fuchuck of McCook, Nebr. died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebr. He was 76 years old.

Sy was born on November 8, 1930 in Boston, Mass. to William and Helena (Kormanicky) Fuchuck. He graduated from Everett High School, Everett, Mass., in 1948. He continued his education at Suffolk University in Boston with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting.

Sy entered the US Navy in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954. On June 4, 1955, he married Florence Rita Rossi in Boston. Sy’s career as an accountant took them all over the country and in 1995 Sy and Flo retired and moved to Nebraska to be close to family. In their 52 amazing years together they had four children, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters.

Sy was an avid sports fan especially of the Boston Red Sox, Denver Bronco’s and Colorado Avalanche. He was an inspiration to his family and to everyone who came to know him throughout the course of his illness.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Helena Fuchuck; and one sister, Lillian.

Survivors include his wife, Florence of McCook; two sons, Bill Fuchuck and wife, Mary of McCook and Jim Fuchuck and wife, Jill, of Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Linda Hansing of Engelwood, Colo. and Karen and husband, Dennis Arp, of Culbertson, Nebr.; nine grandchildren, Jason Hansing and Laetitia, Stephen Hansing and wife, Leigh Ann, Brian Arp and wife, Erika, Jenny Arp, Ryan Fuchuck, Amanda Fuchuck, Daniel Arp, Nick Fuchuck and Dominick Fuchuck; and two great-grandchildren, Gianna Hansing and Tori Hansing.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Funeral services were Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery with a military honor committal.

A reception followed the burial at the Taste of Texas restaurant in McCook.

Donald E. Foster

Donald E. Foster, age 78, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at the Cambridge Hospital.

Donald was born September 6, 1928 to Harold O. and Edith (Moore) Foster in Cambridge. He attended Indianola Public Schools.

On December 28, 1951 he married Joe Ann Weintz in Cambridge. To this union four children were born, Mike, Cindy, Suzy, and Jayne.

He farmed and drove a Mail truck for 22 years; he was a life member of the McCook Elks Club, and the Indianola and Bartley Masonic Lodge. He was interested in antique tractors, and enjoyed U.S. History.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Joe Ann on November 9, 1991.

He is survived by his son, Mike Foster and wife, Katie of Indianola; daughters, Cindy Ault of Lincoln, Suzy Sailors and husband, Blaine of Plattsburg, Missouri, Jayne Fair and husband, Dr. Kevaghn of Williamsburg, Virginia; brother, Byron Foster of Longmont, Colorado; grandchildren, Hayley Ault of Lincoln, Alexander Fair, Slater Fair, Astyn Fair all of Williamsburg, Virginia, Alyse Foster of Indianola.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Indianola Fire Dept. or the Plattsburg Memorial Park.

Funeral services were Friday, April 13, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial was in Cedar Grove cemetery in Indianola.
