David Allen Kinkade

David Allen Kinkade of McCook died Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Community Hospital. He was 82 years old.

David was born on November 18, 1924 at Geneva, to Allen R. and Caroline Sophia (Ohnesorg) Kinkade. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1942.

He entered the US Marines in 1943 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on 1946.

On June 18, 1950, David married Marguerite “Peggy” Louise Kelly in Boulder, Colo. To this union one son, Kelly was born. They made their home in McCook where David was employed by the Nebraska State Department of Roads as a civil engineer. He retired in 1989.

David was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and served in many positions of the church council. He helped in all aspects of Youth Little League Baseball and Boy Scouts for numerous years. David enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and especially spending time with his grandsons.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Allen and Caroline Kinkade.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Peggy Kinkade of McCook; son, Kelly Kinkade and wife, Kathy, of McCook; two grandsons, Daniel and Brian Kinkade; and sister, Vivian Maxwell of Ashland.

Memorials may be given in his name.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sam R. Williams officiating. Inurnment followed the service in St. Alban’s Columbarium.

William Jensen

William “Bill” Jensen, 86, died Wednesday, January 03, 2007, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

He was born, October 13, 1920 at Gem, Kansas to Jens and Mette (Axelsen) Jensen.

He served in the U.S. Army during WW II from January 1942 to December 1945. He was a truck driver for many years and settled in McCook after 1976. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Atwood, KS Bill loved animals of all kinds.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harry, Chris and Fred Jensen; a brother-in-law, Lowell Ruggles; and one nephew Rolland Jensen.

He is survived by a sister, Sina Ruggles of McCook; nieces, Marilyn Kunkee and husband Delbert, Jean Kunkee, and Lois Conway all of McCook; a nephew, Bob Ruggles of Mesa, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Mary Jensen of Mead, Colorado and Arlene Jensen of Lakeland, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name.

Funeral services were Saturday January 6, 2007 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.

Burial was in Riverview cemetery in McCook.

Veronica Louise (Placke) Jacobsen

Veronica “Dot” Louise Jacobsen, of McCook died Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Bryan LGH East at Lincoln. She was 68 years old.

She was born on December 29, 1938, in St. Libory, to William F. and Kathryn (Zauha) Placke. She grew up in St. Libory graduating from the eighth grade Parochial School and then graduating in 1956 from St. Paul High School.

On June 1, 1961, she married Lawrence Jacobsen in Shelton. They lived on the family farm in St. Paul, then in Hastings, and finally moving to McCook where Lawrence worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and Dot babysat in their home for years.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook and Altar Society holding many offices. She was a member of the United Transportation Union Easter Lilly Lodge; a 25-year member of Better Halves Extension Club; she helped start McCook Recyclers; she was involved in the Boy and Girl Scouts for numerous years and volunteered at St. Pats School for many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband 1987; one brother, William A. Placke; and one sister, Virginia Placke.

Survivors include her son, Steve Jacobsen of McCook; two daughters, Peggy Daniels and husband, Byron, of Trenton and Nancy Broadfoot and husband, Greg, of McCook; grandchildren, Benton, Cody and Michaela Daniels; Megan and Jacob Forbes; Andrew, Alex and Libby Broadfoot; sister, Marilyn Retzlaff and husband, Bill, of Palmer; two brothers, Norbert Placke and wife, Ramona, of St. Libory and Donald Placke and wife, Jan, of Central City; sister-in-law, Marilyn Placke of St. Libory; numerous family members and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Rosary was Friday, March 16, 2007, 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, March 17, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour and Father Val Bartek officiating. Graveside services were on Monday, March 19, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at St. Libory cemetery with Father Larry Colter.

Enid Louise (Guthrie) Hurley

Enid Louise Hurley, 94, died April 22, 2007, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born December 29th, 1912, at Stockville, Nebraska to William Edwin and Bessie Mae (Slater) Guthrie. She moved with her family near Curtis, Ne. in 1915.

In 1931 she married Carl S. Bender and two daughters were born to this marriage. After their divorce, she was a maid to a family in McCook. Then she worked at Ideal Laundry, Hesteds Dime Store, Sweetbriar and Singer Sewing Center.

She married LaFayette D. Hurley in 1957. Together they operated the LaFayette Trailer Court until Lafe's death in 1967. She then worked for McCook Floor Covering until the business sold.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother Edwin, and three sisters, Doris Mills, Wilma Hosack, Phyllis Blackburn and their spouses.

Survivors are her daughters, Barbara K. O'Dea, and husband Densel, of McCook, Darlene Weed, and husband Jerry, of Richland Washington; five grandchildren, Kenneth O'Dea, and wife Kristy, of Detroit, Mi, James O'Dea, and wife Kim, of McCook, Patricia Knaub, of Omaha, Pamela Adams, and husband Douglas, of Keller TX, and John Weed, and wife Laurie, of Richland, Wa; 12 great-grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 26, 1:30 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Pastor Joshua Knaub officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery.

Dorothy V. (Jackson) Hubbard

Dorothy V. Hubbard, formally of Kearney, died Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at McCook Community Hospital. She was 88.

She was born in Wilcox to Arthur E. and Eulah B. (Jay) Jackson on March 23, 1919. She graduated from Wilcox High School.

She married Byron C. Hubbard on July 22, 1961 in North Platte. They moved to Kearney in 1971 residing there until she moved to Bartley in 2002.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kearney. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, quilting, dolls, crafts, flowers and traveling, but most of all she enjoyed her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byron in 1998; son, Richard Bailey; sisters, Eulah J. Binegar, Audrey Mackley; brothers, Rev. Reynold “Jack” and Oris Jackson; grandchildren, Rochell, Lucinda and John Bailey.

She is survived by her son, Gary Bailey of Canada; daughter, Nancy Matson and husband, Dennis of Bartley; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Bailey of Kearney; brother, Arvid Jackson and wife, Florence of North Platte; sisters, Zatha Gullion and husband, Ray of North Platte, Zalia Bersley and husband, Dale of Longmont, CO, Laurel Morris of North Platte; sister-in-law, Alice Jackson of Holdredge; eight grandchildren; Ron Matson and wife, Shanon of Kearney, Mike Matson and wife, Michelle of Elm Creek, Robert Matson of McCook, Denise McRae and husband, John of McCook, Tami Johnson and husband, Brock of Gothenburg, Kimberly Henry and husband, Shaun of Wray, CO, Travis Matson and wife, Toni of McCook, Jackson Bailey; four step-grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Funeral services were Monday, August 6, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Kearney with Rev. Stan Murdoch officiating. Burial took place in the Kearney cemetery.

Lynette Starr (Mowry) Housh

Lynette Starr Housh died Friday, July 20, 2007 at her home in McCook. She was 59 years old.

On April 27, 1948 she was born to James and Frieda (Randolph) Mowry at Colby, Kansas.

She married James Dennis Housh on August 17, 1968 in McCook. She was baptized on July 23, 1961 and was a member of the Christian Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses. Lynnette was well-known to many in the community as a teacher of Gods Word. She spent 33 years of her life in the full-time ministry. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her positive attitude and her quiet and mild spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Terry Mowry.

She is survived by her husband James; brother, Gerald “Jake” Mowry and wife, Joan of Arapahoe; sister, Shirley Hemman and husband, Walt of Hoxie, Kansas.

There will be no services.

Lela Bernita (Jellison) Hoffman

Lela Bernita Hoffman, 86, died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born, March 3, 1921 at Lincoln, Kansas to Sam and Bertha (Gottberg) Jellison. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1937.

Lela married Howard E. Hoffman in Natoma, Kansas on March 31, 1940. To this union two children, Richard and Marcia were born. They made their home in Kansas for awhile before moving to Denver. Together they owned and operated restaurants until their retirement. Lela and Howard moved to McCook five years ago to be closer to family.

Lela loved to crochet, travel and make crafts. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Scott Hoffman; five brothers, Dave, Ray, Guy, Lex and Joe Jellison; and a sister, May.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Howard Hoffman of McCook; a son, Richard “Dick” Hoffman and wife Dorene of McCook; a daughter, Marcia Dobson and husband Chuck of Commerce City, Colorado; a brother Bill Jellison of WaKeeney, Kansas; a sister, Bette Peterson of Beloit, Kansas; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; and former daughters-in-law, Cathy Snider of Maywood and Linda Tuton of Sutherland; and former son-in-law, Dick Wolfe of Commerce City, CO.

Memorials were to be given to Hospice in her memory.

Inurnment at Fort Logan cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

Elizabeth Anne Hinze

Elizabeth Anne Hinze, infant daughter of Dr. Robert and Jennifer Hinze, died Sunday, December 9th at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

She is survived by her parents, Dr. Robert C. and Jennifer A. (Sweeney) Hinze of McCook; brother, Zach Hinze; sisters, Maddy and Jackie Hinze; paternal grandparents, Dr. Steve and wife, Shari Hinze of North Platte; maternal grandparents, Dave Sweeney and wife, Mary of North Platte; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Memorial services were held Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Rosary took place at 9:00 a.m.

Steven Dale Hinson

Steven Dale Hinson died Friday, October 5, 2007 at his home in McCook surrounded with loving family. He lived a full life of 51 years.

Steven was born on June 2, 1956 at Smyrna, TN to Melvin and Delores (Cooper) Hinson. He graduated from Yokota High School, Yokota, Japan in 1974.

On October 26, 1974 he married Theresa M. Garrido. To this union three sons were born, Michael, Bruce and Brian. He entered the US Air Force on May 28, 1975. While in the service he continued his education at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and Georgia Military College at Milledgeville, Georgia earning a Bachelors degree in Engineering. His commitment to the service caused them to move a lot throughout the country. He was honorably discharged on April 1, 1979.

After his discharge the family relocated to Longmont, Colorado where Steven started his company CMM Calibrations as a Quality Control Engineer. They moved to the McCook community in 2001 to be closer to family.

His hobbies included designing graphic airplanes for computer games. He also liked to build model airplanes and play his favorite sport of golf.

His granddaughter, Elijah Hinson preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Hinson of McCook; sons, Michael Hinson and wife, Brandi, Bruce Hinson and wife, Teraysa, and Brian Hinson all of McCook; his parents; one brother, Bobby Hinson of Merced, CA; and 12 grandchildren, Megan, Carissa, David, Noah, Azreail, Hailey, Mark, Justice, Anthony, Lily, Rose and Destiny; and one great-granddaughter, Evie.

Our dad was something special, quick to help someone in need, always standing up for his family and preaching the word of God everywhere he went. He is loved and missed and will never be forgotten. Steven Dale Hinson was truly a one of a kind loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he will be greatly missed. We love you Dad. The Hinson Boy’s.
