Jennifer Lynn (Stineman) Boyd

Jennifer Lynn Boyd died Friday, May 16, 2008 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 56 years old.

Jennifer was born on January 9, 1952 in Nelson, Nebraska to Wilford and Marrianne (Sole) Stineman. She graduated from Nelson High School in 1970. She continued her education at the Denver School of Business. In May of 2002, she graduated from McCook Community College with an Associates Degree.

Jennifer was united in marriage to Timothy D. Boyd on May 5, 1973 in Nelson. They made their home in McCook and to this union three children were born. Jennifer had previously worked for the Work Ethic Camp in McCook as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She was currently owner and operator of The Quilt Corner. She was an instrumental part of the Alzheimer Memory Walk.

Jennifer was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church and Quilting Guild. She enjoyed going to the lake and spending time with her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her infant sister, Beth Stineman; father, Wilford Stineman; and her husband Timothy Boyd.

Survivors include her children, Carrie and husband, Jon Johnson, of McCook, Eric Boyd and significant other, Korey Mohr, of Lincoln, and Kevin and fiancé, Tera Montey, of Hastings; her mother, Marrianne Stineman of Nelson; three brothers, Randy Stineman and wife, Peg, David Stineman and Roger Stineman all of Nelson; two sisters, Priscilla and husband, Steve Bell, of Muskogee, OK and Loretta and husband, Gary Westra, of Anchorage, AK; and three grandchildren, Kerisa Boyd, Abigail and Chayse Johnson.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Funeral services were Wednesday, May 21, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery.

Clyde Bolin

Clyde Louis Bolin of McCook, Nebraska died Monday, June 23, 2008 at Community Hospital in McCook. He was 70 years old.

Clyde was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on February 15, 1938, the son of Samuel Arthur and Elma Elsie (Emerson) Bolin. He spent his early childhood in southern Oklahoma. The family moved to Canton, KS where he graduated from High School in 1956. He continued his education at Kansas State University graduating in 1961 with a degree in agriculture. He was a member of Acacia Social Fraternity. He played in the marching band and was Drum Major for the ROTC Band.

On August 21, 1960, Clyde married Nancy Ruth Hurtig at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tescott, KS. One son was born to this union.

Clyde was a Navigator with the Kansas Air National Guard from 1960 to 1968, flying B 57’s, and reaching the rank of First Lieutenant. He also worked for his father in the International Harvester business from 1961 to 1966. He worked two years, from 1966 to 1968, for the Kansas Forestry, Fish and Game Commission as a Game Protector in Coffey County. In 1968, Clyde was hired as a Special Agent with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He was stationed in Port Clinton, Ohio until 1972. The family then moved to Narragansett, R.I. where he was a Special Agent Pilot. As a Pilot Clyde obtained his Private, Commercial, and Instrument Licenses, and Float Rating. He also spent time in Labrador surveying Eider Ducks and tracking Whooping Cranes on their migration to and from southern Texas to Canada. Clyde retired as a Special Agent Pilot in 1989.

The family moved to the McCook community in 1989. While in McCook, he worked for the Sheriff’s Department of Red Willow County as a Deputy. Clyde enjoyed a 42-year career in Law Enforcement. He loved his family, protecting and serving the public.

His father, Samuel Bolin, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his mother, Elma Bolin of Salina, KS; wife, Nancy Bolin of McCook; and son, Mark Bolin and wife, Julie, also of Salina.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Funeral services were Monday, June 30, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at the Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, Salina, KS with Pastor Greg Guy officiating. Burial took place in the Crown Point cemetery in Salina.

Richard LeRoy Baxter

Richard LeRoy Baxter, age 79, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Richard was born in Palisade to Arlie J. and Margaret E. (West) on April 19, 1928. He graduated from Palisade Public School in 1946.

He married Leona E. Potthoff on June 1, 1951 in Palisade. To this union five children were born.

He was in the US Navy from 1946 - 1948, and then he went on to the Navy Reserves for 10 years.

He was a member of the Palisade United Methodist Church. He was initiated into the Masons on September 12, 1961. He became a member of McCook Lodge No. 135 A.F. and A.M. by consolidation in January 2007. He was a member of all the York Rite Bodies at McCook, Scottish Rite, Valley of Hastings, at Hastings, Tehama Temple Mystic Nobles of the Shrine at Hastings, and the Eureka Chapter, No. 86 Order of the Eastern Star at McCook. Past Master of the Palisade Masonic Lodge No. 216 A.F. and A.M.; past Patron of Palisade Chapter No. 318 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Palisade volunteer fireman 26 years, served as fire chief 12 years, then on the Rural Fire Board 14 years. Member of the Palisade Village Board and Village Clerk for 12 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 318 and American Vets post 14, Hester Home Board and many other community involvements.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Margaret; brothers-in-law, Paul Schluckebier and Robert Potthoff.

He is survived by his wife and children, Richard "Alan" Baxter of Palisade, Beverly Green and husband, Mike of McCook, James Baxter of Trenton, Gary Baxter of Palisade and Linda Buck and husband, David of Aurora, CO; brother, Viron Baxter and wife, Mildred of Palisade; sisters, Rosalie Schluckebier of Jackson, MI, Margaret "Kay" Green and husband, Robert of Yuma, AZ; brothers-in-law, Frank Potthoff and wife, Betty of Palisade, Henry Potthoff and wife, Janice of Carroll, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Dennis, Randy, Cassandra, James, Rebecca, Matthew, Evan, Andrew, Travis, Nicole, and Valdemars; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Graveside inurnment services were held Friday, June 13, 2008, 4:00 p.m. at the Palisade cemetery.

Agnes M. (Monzon) Baumann

Agnes M. Baumann of Culbertson died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln. She was 67 years old.

On March 12, 1941, she was born in McCook to Louise S. Monzon. She grew up and lived her life in the McCook and Culbertson area. She attended St. Patrick Catholic School.

She married George A. Baumann September 3, 1960 in Trenton. They had five children, Earl, Joyce, Rose, Jeff and Wayne. George died in 1996.

Agnes was a maid at the Chief Motel for 26 years. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, sewing and watching television.

Preceding her in death were her mother, Louise Monzon and husband, George Baumann.

Survivors include Earl Bauman and wife Evelyn, Jeff Bauman and wife Brenda all of McCook, Wayne Bauman and wife Pam of Culbertson, Joyce Hubbart and husband Richard of Indianola and Rose Leonard and husband Tom of Spring, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

A private inurnment will be at a later date.

Frederick William Ankenman

Frederick William (Fritz) Ankenman age 86, a long time resident of Lebanon Nebraska, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 16, 2008 after a long illness. He was living at the Brighton Gardens Nursing Home in Colorado Springs, CO at the time of his death.

He was born in Norcator, Kansas December 9, 1921 to Frederick and Gail Ankenman. To this union two sons were born. Together, they shared 59 years of marriage.

Fred joined the military during the Second World War and retired from the Air Force after 24 years service. During his distinguished career, he flew P-38 and P-47 fighter aircrafts in Europe during WW II. He also served in Korea during the Korean War. He had numerous other assignments. He was an instructor pilot on jet aircraft, a commercial transportation officer, and Transportation Squadron Commander. He retired from the Air Force in 1964 at the rank of Major. After his retirement, he became a Field Engineer for Winchester Arms Company building Trap & Skeet Gun Clubs throughout the western United States.

Fred loved hunting, fishing and shooting trap and skeet. His real enjoyment came from helping the people in his community.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Frederick and Gail Ankenman; his wife, Laverne; one grandson, Terry Ankenman; two sisters, Aril and Hildred; and one brother, Kenneth.

Survivors include his two sons, Larry Ankenman and wife, Bella and Terry Ankenman; grandson, Larry Ankenmen, Jr.; granddaughter, Marlys and husband, Mike; and great-grandsons, Michel, Matthew, Marcus, and Frederick and wife, Lenore.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 29, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial took place in the Lebanon cemetery with military honors.

Michael Eugene Allerton

Michael Eugene Allerton, age 64, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at his home in Littleton, CO surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lincoln to Russell and Geraldine Allerton on March 10, 1944. He grew up in Lincoln, and attended Lincoln High School. He was a veteran of the Lincoln Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, McCook Police Department and Red Willow Sheriff's Department. He was currently employed as Court Security Officer in Denver with the U.S. Marshall's Service.

Michael was united in marriage to Kathy Reynolds on September 11, 1964, in Lincoln, NE. They lived in Lincoln, Lakewood, CA, and made McCook their home before moving to Colorado in 1996. Mike was devoted to serving God and loving his family, he enjoyed four-wheeling in the mountains with his wife, playing with his grandkids, fishing, hunting and shooting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edwin and Russell; and nephew Russell Allerton, III.

Those left to cherish Mike's memory are his wife, Kathy of Littleton; his three sons, Michael (Christy) of Littleton, James (Diane) of Tucson, AZ, Kevin (Noelle) of Aurora, CO; seven grandchildren, Thomas, Emily, Abigail, Noah, Ethan, Paetyn and Victoria; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Memorial services were held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Horan & McConaty Funeral Chapel in Lakewood, Colorado with his sons, Rev.'s Michael and James Allerton officiating. Interment and graveside services took place at Memorial Park cemetery in McCook on Saturday, July 19th, at 2:00pm.

Horan & McConaty was in charge of arrangements in Littleton and Carpenter-Breland Funeral home was in charge of arrangements in McCook.

Frances Eva (Sughroue) Allen

Frances Eva Allen died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. She was 84 years old.

Frances was born on June 3, 1923, in a sod house north of Indianola to Francis Wilford and Johanna (Schutte) Sughroue. She attended country school her first eight grades and graduated from Indianola High School in 1940.

Frances taught in the rural school district for three years. She was employed by CB&Q; Railroad for 15 years. She later worked for Community Hospital and Hillcrest Nursing Home before her retirement.

On April 23, 1946, Frances was united in marriage to Clayton Elmore Green in Arapahoe. To this union one son, John was born. Clayton preceded her in death on December 11, 1959. She was later married to Joseph S. Allen on January 13, 1968 in McCook. To this union six more children joined Frances’ family.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. Other memberships included the McCook BPOE Does, VFW Auxiliary, Town and Country Extension Club, Royal Neighbors of America and Federated Women’s Club.

In her free time she loved being in her yard and spending time with her grandchildren.

She had been living in Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island the past four years to be near her son and family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Francis and Johanna Sughroue; her husbands, Clayton Green and Joseph Allen; two brothers, Gerald and Charles Sughroue; and one sister, Mary Lyons.

Survivors include her son, John Green and wife, Cheryl, of Grand Island; three step-sons, Roger Allen and wife, Loren, of Nassau, NY, Gary Allen and wife, Cristy, of Ft. Worth, TX and John Allen of McCook; three step-daughters, Nancy and husband, Curtis Hicks of Lakewood, CO, Joanne and husband, Steve Hatch, of Ft. Collins, CO and Kathleen and husband, Henry “Chip” Gallagher, of Chevak, AK; three brothers, Jim Sughroue and wife, Leah, of Indianola, Don Sughroue and wife, Jean, of Cambridge, and Tom Sughroue of Culbertson; one sister, Nellie Ryan of Cambridge; 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Rosary took place on Monday, March 3, 2008, at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Father Tom McGuire officiating. Mass of Christian burial took place Tuesday, March 4, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial took place at St. Catherine’s cemetery in Indianola.

John Julian Abbuhl

John Julian (Jack) Abbuhl, 79, Red Oak, Iowa formerly of Palisade passed away Wednesday April 16, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa.

He was born July 25, 1928 in Palisade, Nebraska to Ziba and Pearl Arinda (Smoots) Abbuhl. He grew up in Palisade and graduated from Palisade High School in 1945.

After graduation he attended the University of Nebraska. Then farmed near Palisade until 1950 at which time he entered the U. S. Army and served with the First Calvary Division in Korea. He returned to Palisade and was united in marriage to Rosetta Miller on September 14, 1952.

Jack continued to farm in the Palisade area until becoming post master of the Palisade post office in 1971. He was employed by the post office until his retirement in 1992. After that time, in 1994, Jack and Rosetta moved to Red Oak, IA to be closer to his son and grandchildren.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion and Elks Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Rosetta, of Red Oak, Iowa, his son, Bernard and wife Martha of Red Oak; sister, Janice Corfman of Brea, California, 3 grandchildren, Jacob of Flagstaff, AZ, Jason and Arinda of Red Oak.

A memorial fund was established in his name.

Funeral Services were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Palisade United Methodist Church with Pastor Judy Dye officiating. Burial took place with military honors in the Palisade cemetery.

Steve L. Lambert

Steve L. Lambert, age 48, died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

He was born September 5, 1959 at Renton, Washington to Gary and Donna (England) Lambert. He enjoyed most sports. He played football for McCook High School and graduated in 1977. He attended one year at Kearney State playing football on the freshman team.

He was an Eagle Scout who was able to enjoy “50 miles a float” into Canada; and two National Jamboree’s, the first at Miner Park, PA and second at Ft. A.P. Hill, West Virginia. Steve and his Dad went on a special climbing trip to Cimmeron, New Mexico with the troop from McCook. He spent a lot of time fishing, camping and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his kids.

Steve worked 24 years for Burlington/Santa Fe as a welder/grinder operator until forced to retire due to degenerative bone disease and his job caused a lot of pain.

Preceding Steve in death were both sets of grandparents, I.W. and Clara Lambert and Leonard and Ida Winifred England; and step-son, Robert Hammond.

Survivors include parents, Gary and Donna Lambert; brother, Doug Lambert and wife, Stephanie; two nephews, three nieces, two grandnieces; aunts and uncles, Don and Myrna Musgrave of Indianola, Gerald and Sharon England of Mathias, Texas, Bill and Jean Lambert of Conifer, Co.; wife, Carol of McCook; children, Anna Lambert, step-children, Ranae Stuck, Dustin Stuck; grandchildren, Jackson Bybee and Mason Kennedy, Joslyn and Jaylee Hammond; and his unborn grandson.

Memorials were to be given to Boy Scouts of America, Overland Council or McCook Christian Church.

Funeral services were Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at McCook Christian Church with Jerry Beckenhauer and Jason Van Pelt officiating. Cremation followed the service and inurnment will be at a later date.
