Martin Barth, 80

(Mar. 26) RUSHVILLE - Martin Barth, 80, of Rushville, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the VA Medical Center at Hot Springs, S.D. He was born Nov. 15, 1920 at Rushville. His parents were Max and Sophie (Vahrenkamp) Barth.

He was a veteran of World War II. He was a John Deere dealer for 22 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. and The American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Rushville; three daughters, Barb Schaer of Gordon, Linda Golden of Fresno, Cal., and Christine Mulchay of Phoeniz, Ariz.; and five grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Helen Noble of Rushville, and Ida Bear of Santa Barbara, Cal.

Mr. Barth's funeral will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rushville, with Vicar Michael Wittrock officiating. Memorials may be given to the American Legion Honor Guard Uniform Fund, in care of Security First Bank, P. O. Box 550, Rushville, NE 69360. Chamberlain Mortuary of Rushville is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy (Dottie) Rasmussen, 57

(Mar. 26) ALLIANCE - Dorothy Rasmussem, 57, of Alliance, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital, S.D. She was born March 25, 1943 at Hyndman, Penn. Her parents were Howard and Betty (Troutman) Leydig.

She married Garry Rasmussen on Dec, 24, 1962 at Hot Springs, S.D. They lived in South Dakota, Pennsylvania and Washington, before spending the last 22 years in Nebraska. She ran the Owl's Nest antique store with her husband and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, quilting and traveling.

She is survived by her husband of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jim Nollette of Alliance; a son and daughter-in-law, Garry Jr. and Kelly of Hemingford; six grandchildren, Tiffany and A.J. Nollette of Alliance, Blaine, Kory, Jason and Conni Rasmussen of Hemingford. She also is survived by three brothers, James Leydig of North Canton, Ohio, Robert Leydig of Everett, Penn., and Blair Leydig of Buffalo Mills, Penn.; and one sister, Betty Ann Jordan of Buffalo Mills, Penn. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

A memorial service was held Monday at the Alliance Eagles Club, followed by a graveside at Fairview Cemetery at Oral, S.D. Memorials may be given to the Box butte General Hospital Dialysis Unit or the Alliance Eagles Auxiliary.

Pete Sam Stalos, 92

(Mar. 27) ALLIANCE - Born June 20, 1908 in Hondriou Greece, Pete Stalos died Monday, March 26, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Health Care Facility in Alliance, Nebraska where he had been a resident since December 1997.

His immediate surviving family members include a brother and sister-in-law Frank and Angeline Stalos of Denver, Colorado, sister Areti of Hondriou, Greece, daughter, Maria Rich of Rome, N. Y., son and daughter-in-law Sam and Young Hee Stalos of Dallas, Texas and son Stephen Stalos of Laurel, Maryland. He also is survived by grandchildren Amalia Rich of Dallas, Texas, Steffini Stalos of Dallas, Texas, Jason Stalos of Dallas, Texas, and Andrea Yaekel of Vancouver, Washington. Great grandchildren are Ryan and Evan Yaekel of Vancouver, Washington.

At the age of 13, Mr. Stalos and his brother immigrated to the United States and came to live in Alliance under the sponsorship of Tom Stalos. He became a citizen of the United States in 1938 during a Naturalization Ceremony held in Scottsbluff, Neb. He obtained a GED from Alliance Public Schools. Mr. Stalos owned and operated the Golden Rule Market on Box Butte Avenue from 1937 until 1968. In 1937 he married LaVerta Ruth Curry of Alliance. Mr. Stalos was a member of the Alliance Volunteer Firefighter's Association, the Greek Ahepa Society and the Alliance Toastmastersâ Club.

Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Allen Parker, 94

(Mar. 27) GORDON - Allen Parker, 94, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at his home in Gordon. He was born May 20, 1906, at Gordon.

He is survived by three sons, Howard Parker of Gordon, David Parker of Albuquerque, N.M., and Larry "Pike" Parker of Phoenix, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Parker's funeral will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, at the United Methodist Church at Gordon, with the Rev. Nita Gelling Cloran and Rev. Vonne Blessman Andersen officiating. Burial will be in the Gordon Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Tri-State Old Time Cowboys Association or the Panhandle Country Music Association, in care of Community First National Bank, P. O. Box 250, Gordon, NE 69343. Chamberlain-Gates Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Harry T. Cullan, 88

(March 27) HEMINGFORD - Harry T. Cullan, 88, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in the Immanuel Medical Center at Omaha. He was born March 4, 1914, near St. Paul in rural Howard County to Thomas Peter and Anna Marie Cullan.

He graduated from Hemingford High School in 1932. He married Lorene Burney on Sept. 29, 1932. Following his marriage, he worked as a mechanic for Kiewit Construction for a while and began farming. He was an active farmer until he was hospitalized in January of this year. He also owned and operated a John Deere implement store in the late '50s and early '60s. He was a member of Saint Bridget's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, the Elks, Nebraska Crop Improvement Assn., and he was inducted into the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement in 1993. He is survived by children and spouses Tom and Loretta Cullan of Hemingford, Dave and Vicki Cullan of Omaha, Doug and Marti Cullan of Hemingford, Pat and Jackie Cullan of Chadron, Dan and Mary Cullan of Omaha, Larry Cullan of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary Ann and Al Litzau of Fort Collins, Colo., Gene and Pam Cullan of Phoenix, George and Patti Cullan of Hutchinson, Kan., Sam Cullan of Kansas City, Mo., Virginia Cullan of Overland Park, Kan., Steve and Terry Cullan of Hemingford; 34 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lorene, earlier this year, 5 half-sisters, one half-brother, two grandchildren and one infant daughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, with Fr. John Robinson, a cousin, and Fr. Vincent Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. Wake services will be at 7 p.m., Monday, April 1, at St. Bridget's Church. Memorials may be given to the St. Agnes Academy Foundation, the Hemingford Volunteer Firefighters Assn., the Hemingford Community Care Center ice cream machine fund, or to the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dale Kimble, 25

(March 27) WAUNETA - Dale Kimble, 25, formerly of Hyannis, died Monday, March 25, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Debbie Minor of Merriman and Jack Kimble; brother, Jay Kimble of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; sisters, Mindy Powell of Parks, Mellisa Snyder of Imperial and Mandy Nelson of Pittsburgh, Kan.; and his grandparents Dick and Arlene Minor of Gordon.

Mr. Kimble's funeral will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 28, at the United Church of Christ at Hyannis, with Pastor Roy Monahan officiating. Interment will be in the Hyannis Cemetery, Cicmanec-Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ellen Rutten, 71

(Mar. 28) HEMINGFORD - Mary Ellen (Fortune) (Lliteras) Rutten, 71, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at Box Butte General Hospital. She was born in OâNeil, Nebraska, April 16, 1929 to Othal and Edith (Hall) Fortune.

Mary was the youngest of five children. As her father was a Methodist Pastor, he served many churches. Mary attended grade schools in Tilden, Wauneta, Hemingford and Rushville, NE. She entered High School in Union, Oregon, however she graduated in Genoa, NE. After graduation she attended college in Brownwood, TX for two years, and received her teaching degree from Chadron State College, Chadron, NE. She lived all her adult life in Hemingford, and taught art in the community and at the High School. She was a life member of Hemingford American Legion Auxiliary Unit #9.

She is survived by her husband Robert Rutten of Hemingford; by five children and their spouses, Chuck and Kris Lliteras of Mayville, MO, Roberta and John Weisgerber of Sterling, CO, Dan and Marsha Lliteras of Brighton, CO, Joe and Pam Lliteras of Chadron, NE and Dave and Dawn Lliteras of Wahoo, NE; three step-children and spouses, Alois and Bill Harris of Sun City, AZ, Kirk Rutten of Denver, CO, and Traci and Ron Christofferson of Azle, TX; seventeen grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren; and one great grandchild; one brother, Gene Fortune, Lincoln, NE; many nieces and nephews.

She was married to Robert Lliteras on August 8, 1952 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hemingford, NE, and he died April 10, 1986. She married Robert Rutten February 6, 1987 at the United Methodist Church, Hay Springs, NE, and he survives at their Hemingford home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Michael Lliteras and husband Robert Lliteras, brothers, Glenn and Charles Fortune and one sister, Elva Yardley.

Wake services will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 29, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hemingford. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 30, at St. Bridget Catholic Church with Father Hugh Spanel officiating. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hemingford Volunteer Fire Association, Rescue Unit Fund. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lottie V. Pierce, 86

(Mar. 28) CHADRON - Lottie V. Pierce, 86, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at the Chadron Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 28, 1914, in Thomas County, Neb. Her parents were Charles and Arvilla (Benton) Steele.

She is survived by four sons, Edward D. Pierce of Lead, S.D., Ronnie R. Pierce of Upton, Wyo., Larry D. Pierce of Deadwood, S.D., and Terry L. Pierce of Rapid City S.D.; one daughter, Judie K. Hanson of Kenmore, N.D; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three sisters, Mary Connell of Scottsbluff, Marie Ringer of Crawford, and Leoria Mossman of Tempe, Ariz.

Mrs. Pierce's funeral will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 31, at the Chamberlain Chapel at Crawford, with the Rev. James Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Crawford Cemetery. A memorial has been established. Donations may be sent t the Community First Bank. Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford is in charge of arrangements.

Roy D. Peck, 73

(Mar. 28) CRAWFORD - Roy D. Peck, 73, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at his home in Hot Springs Village, Ark. He was born April 18, 1927 in Crawford. His parents were Clarence and Anna Peck.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the practice of optometry at the Lincoln Vision Clinic in 1989. He was a member of Southeast Optometric Society and American Optometric Association; past presdient of the Nebraska Optometric Association; and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He was a sportsman, hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed square dancing, bridge and golf.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie Hassin Peck of the home; and one sister, Mary Hartman Willey of Chadron.

Mr. Peck's memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, April 2, at the Crawford Cemetery, with the Rev. K.F. Kaleuati officiating. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at Chamberlain Chapel at Crawford. A memorial has been established for Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church or the donor's choice. Donations may be sent in care of Jennie Peck, 146 Castano Drive, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909. Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford is in charge of arrangements.

Opal V. Littrel, 90

(Mar. 28) CHADRON - Opal V. Littrel, 90, of Chadron died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Crest View Care Center in Chadron. She was born Dec. 11, 1910 in Seneca, Neb. Her parents were Robert and Rachel (Beals) McCandless.

She was married to Lloyd Littrel on Oct. 24, 1931. He preceded her in death in 1973. They spent their married life in ranching. She was a member of Chadron Women's Club, BPO Does, Isinglass Butte Club, Chadron Hospital Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge, and Worthy Matron of Ivy Leaf Chapter #60.

She is survived by two sons, Charley and Don of Chadron; one daughter, Velma Roberts of Elkhart, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 grandchildren. She also is survived by one brother, Ray McCandless of North Platte.

Mrs. Littrel's funeral will be at 2 p.m., Friday, March 30, at Chamberlain Chapel, with Rev. K.F. Kaleuati officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Chadron Rescue Unit. Donations may be sent to Community first Bank. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie Houseal, 86

(Mar. 28) GORDON - Marjorie Houseal, 86, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Gordon. She was born Jan 31, 1915 at Oral S.D. Her parents were Louie and Lillian (Thomas) Martin.

She was married to Ferdinand Otto Knueppel, April 25, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1967. She was married to Berlin Houseal in 1969. She worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Hot Springs.

Her survivors are her Husband, Berlin of Ft. Mead, S.D.; one son, Harold Knueppel of Houston, Tex.; five daughters, Carol Chaulk of Alliance, Frieda Ladely of Gordon, Betty McDaniel of Claypool, Ariz., Dorothy Vaughn of Martinsbug W.V., Linda Studdard of Maysville, Ky., and Joyce Abrahamsen of Bozeman, Mont.; 43 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one brother, Alfred Martin of Gordon; and two sisters, Hazel Lander of Lakeland, Fla. and Madeline Abbott of Casper, Wyo.

Mrs. Houseal's funeral will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 29, at the Cicmanec Pier Chapel in Gordon. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery near Oral, S.D. Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
