Lucille M. (Leetsch) Putz

Lucille M. Putz of McCook, Nebraska died Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the Community Hospital in McCook. She was 76 years old.

Lucille was born in Blue Hill on February 1, 1932, the daughter of Donald and Ida Hoppen Leetsch. She graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1949.

On July 12, 1951 she married Emory Putz in Denver, CO. Five children were born to this union.

Lucille was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church. She worked in the office at the Electric Hose Plant for several years. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, crossword puzzles, reading, cooking, gardening and raising house plants, and being an avid Atlanta Brave’s fan. Lucille greatly enjoyed children, especially her children as she was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. Later in life she was a big fan of her grandchildren and their many sport activities.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Donald and Ida Leetsch, one brother and four sisters.

Survivors include her husband Emory of McCook; children Jim Putz and wife WandaJo of Crete; Carol Burge and husband Basil of Lafe, Arkansas; Rob Putz and wife Cherri, Patricia Unger and husband David G., and Diane Wieser and husband Joe all of McCook; two sisters Dorothy Mills and husband Bud of Omaha and LaVonne Monte of Ft. Collins, Colorado; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Funeral services were Thursday morning August 7, 2008 at 10:30 at the Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Inurnment took place Saturday at noon in the Palisade cemetery.

Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Herman Howard Pritchett

Herman Howard “Smokey” Pritchett of McCook died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He was 84 years old.

Smokey was born on August 23, 1923, in Dekalb, Alabama to Lawrence E. and Annie Mae (Blanks) Pritchett. He entered the US Army on February 12, 1943 and served in France during World War II. He was honorably discharged on September 22, 1945.

Smokey moved to the McCook community in 1942. He was united in marriage to Vlasta Viola Cobb on September 3, 1943, in Oberlin, KS. He later married Elva C. Dinnell on May 4, 1947. She preceded him in death on August 4, 1996. Smokey was employed by Sehnert’s Bakery for over 30 years. He was also an antique car and junk dealer.

On March 30, 1999, Smokey was reunited in marriage to Vlasta Viola Cobb and they continued to make their home in McCook until his death.

He was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Annie Pritchett; his wife, Elva; stepson, Norman Unger; two brothers, Edward and Curtis; and four sisters, Betty, Ruth, Nellie and Jewel.

He is survived by his wife, Vlasta Viola Pritchett of McCook; two daughters, Lorena and husband, Dan Mehringer, of Holton, KS and Carla Harvey of Sheridan, WY; two step-sons, Donald Unger and wife, Sue, of Burlingame, CA and Jerry Unger and wife, Mary, of Milwaukee, WI; one brother, David Pritchett and wife, Diana, of Ringgold, GA; two sisters, Anne Lou Williams and Daisy Cole of Fort Payne, AL; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Funeral services were Monday, April 7, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial with military honors took place in the Palisade cemetery.

Fred Edward Plourd

Fred Edward Plourd of Cambridge died Monday, March 10, 2008 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He was 68 years old.

Fred was born on April 3, 1939 in McCook to Alfred Matthew and Maude Olive (Johnson) Plourd.

He entered the US Army on August 10, 1960. He was honorably discharged on July 29, 1963. He then entered the US Air Force on November 5, 1963 and was honorably discharged on August 19, 1964.

Fred was united in marriage to Linda Elaine Mitchem in McCook on February 5, 1971. Fred was employed as a truck driver for Cornbelt Chemical Company, later VanDiest Supply Company, for many years until his retirement.

He was a member of the McCook and Holbrook Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and Holbrook Lyons Club. He loved listening to country western music, especially George Jones.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Alfred and Maude Plourd; one sister, Donna Morthole and three infant sisters, Shirley, Norma and Beverly; and three brothers, William, Robert and Warren Plourd.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Plourd of Cambridge; two sons, Jason Plourd of Omaha and Charles Plourd of Lincoln; one brother, Michael Plourd and wife, Donna, of North Platte; four sisters, Marge of Sochacki of Marine City, MI, Anita and husband, Bob Denzer, of Roseburg, OR, Jean and husband, Bill Lacey, of McCook, and Linda and husband, Art Lilienthal, of Culbertson; one granddaughter, Jordan and one grandson, Logan; and faithful dog, Lady.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Funeral services were Friday March 14, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God with burial in Fort McPherson National cemetery, Maxwell, NE, 1:00 p.m. with military honors.

Mable N. Hart

Mable N. Hart, 88, widow of George, of Lincoln, died Monday, February 22, 2010. She was born November 23, 1921, in Vandale AR, to Harry and Pearl (Southerland) Raburn. She was a life long reader, interested in the arts and politics. She enjoyed her family and valued friendships made over the years. She enjoyed traveling and was active in the community and was always there to lend a helping hand.

Visitation: Private family viewing.

Service: Celebration of Mable’s life will be held 10:00 AM Saturday February 27, 2010, at Metcalf Funeral Home, 245 N 27th Street, Lincoln, NE.

Memorials: Memorials may be given to Friendship Home or Pink Sisters.

Survivors: Daughters and son-in-law, Sandra Bergmann and Douglas Wagner, Omaha, NE, Shirley Hart Arthur (husband Bernard deceased), Clay Center NE; 7 grandchildren, Jim, Jennifer, Terry, Kevin, Anne, Ryan, Craig; 10 Great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband, George; numerous brothers and sisters.

Charles Dwayne Richardson

Charles Dwayne Richardson, 42, of Lincoln, Sunrise, 10/27/1967, Little Rock, AR: Sunset, 2/21/2010, Little Rock, AR.

Visitation: Visitation: 2-6 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the funeral home.

Service: Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 at Metcalf Funeral Home, 245 North 27th Street, Lincoln, NE.

Memorials: Memorial may be given to the family.

Verona I. Pearson

Verona I. Pearson, 67, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011, in Lincoln. She was born February 7, 1944, in Lincoln, to Durl and Vivian (Thompson) Meakins. Verona worked as a Dental Aid at the UN Dental College for 40 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, event planner, and avid gardener. Verona loved animals, wild life rescue, China painting, and raising violets. She was also a distributor of Food Net.

Visitation: Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service.

Service: Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3000 Old Cheney Road, Lincoln, NE, with Bishop Hollis officiating.

Memorials: Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.

E. Jean Bates

E. Jean Bates, 81, of Lincoln, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011, in Nebraska City, NE. She was born September 5, 1929, in Lincoln, to Arthur Ollis and Lily (Pirner) Scott. She was a member of East Lincoln Christian Church, North Bluff’s Square Dance Club and was a host family for UNL foreign exchange program. Jean enjoyed sewing and playing piano.

Visitation: Visitation: 2-8 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011 with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m., at Metcalf Funeral Home, 245 North 27th Street, Lincoln, NE 68503.

Service: Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2011, at East Lincoln Christian Church, 7001 Edenton Road, Lincoln, NE 68516, with Pastor Rob Conner and Pastor Eddie Everson officiating.
