Jerry A. Bolek, 55

(March 28) MANHATTAN, Kan. - Jerry Allen Bolek, 55, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Mercy Regional Health Center. He was born on April 15, 1947, at Rushville, the son of Joe and Edna (Cronan) Bolek Sr.

He was employed as an equipment operator at Kansas State University for 33 years. On Dec. 10, 1999, he married Alila Castaneda. He is survived by his wife; daughters Christina Webber of Manhattan, and Melanie Bolek of Clinton, Ind; and two grandchildren. He also is survived by his father, Joe Bolek Sr. of Alliance; brothers Richard Bolek and Lynn Bolek of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Gary Bolek and Joe Bolek Jr. of Alliance; and two sisters, Judy Taylor of Mullen, and Patty Taylor of Alliance.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m., Monday, March 31, at the Humboldt Creek Cemetery south of Junction City, Kan., with Rev. Kevin Larson officiating. Family and friends will meet at 2 p.m., Monday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home at Manhattan to form a procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Jerry A. Bolek Memorial Fund, c/o the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502.

Dolores Nollette, 93

(March 29) ALLIANCE - Dolores Nollette, 93, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Highland Park Care Center. She was born Oct. 28, 1908, in Sioux County, to John C. and Mattie (Bocock) Murphy.

In November 1935 she was married to Richard L. Nollette. She had been an Alliance resident since 1942 and worked as a secretary at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Altar Society. She is survived by her sons Bruce of North Platte, Keith of Alliance, John of San Antonio, Texas, Doug of OâNeill, and Tom of Dallas, Texas; daughters Sharon Grotts of Sterling, Colo., Jeannette Ward of Denver, Colo., Roselyn Lane of Carnation, Wash., sister, Dr. Lois Murphy of New York, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Her husband, parents, two brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, at Holy Rosary Church, with Fr. Vince Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Wake services will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, at Holy Rosary Church. Memorials may be given to St. Agnes Foundation. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Cora M. Berry, 70

(Mar. 30) CHADRON - Cora M. Berry, 70, of Chadron died Thursday, March 29, at Chadron Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 2, 1930, at Gordon. Her parents were Leslie and Emma (McDaniel) Busic.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and National Education Association.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Berry of the home in Chadron; son Bill A.D. Berry of Amarillo, Texas; daughters Diana Dye of Sheridan, Wyo., and Dawn Irene Jung of Torrington, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Berry's memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, at Chamberlain Chapel, with Sharon Harrison and Ilene Kubo officiating. Memorials may be made to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. u

Pearle J. Skinner, 86

(Mar. 30) MERRIMAN - Pearle Johanna (Beyersdorf) Skinner of Merriman, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the Hemingford Community Care Center. She was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Merrick County Nebraska at her Grandparents Buchfinch's farmhouse near Grand Island.

At the age of 3, she moved by horse and buggy with her parents, Paul and Freda Beyersdorf, from Whitman to Merriman to the ranch where she lived all her life. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Pearle graduated from Benson High School in Omaha in 1932. She was married to Byron Skinner June 15, 1933, at Hot Springs, S.D. Three children were born to this union. Pearle loved her flowers, crocheting, reading, her lifetime partnership in ranching, but most of all her family.

She leaves to mourn her best friend and sister, Clare Quible of Merriman; sons Quincy (Oleta) and Jerry (Janelle); daughter, Junie (Rex) Hooper; six grandchildren, Lynn (Dick) Beasley of Rapid City, S.D., Jill (Pete) Jensen of Eagle River, Alaska, Broden Skinner of Denver, Colo., Loleta (Casey) Connell of Arnold, Neil Skinner of Merriman, Jordan Skinner of Loveland, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Hayden and Amelia Jensen, Cade Connell and Jacob Beasley; and special friend, Sharol Moeller of Hemingford.

Mrs. Skinner's funeral will be held Saturday, March 31, at the Presbyterian Church in Gordon, with Rev. Vonne Blessman Andersen of Gordon and Rev. Ed Hunzeker of Scottsbluff officiating. Pallbearers are grandsons, Broden Skinner, Neil Skinner, Jordan Skinner, Deck Beasley, Pete Jensen and Casey Connell. Burial will be in the Gordon Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Hemingford Community Care Center or Prairie Haven Hospice. Donations may be sent to First national Bank, P. O. Box 290, Gordon, NE 69343. Chamberlain Gates Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Dale R. Kimble, 25

(April 1) WAUNETA - Dale Richard "D.R." Kimble, 25, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1977, at Gordon Memorial Hospital. His parents were Jack and Debbie Kimble.

He grew up on family ranches in northern Nebraska. He lived in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa before returning to Nebraska. He boarded with Jay and Jackie Fanning and son Josh, during his high school years at Benkelman. He graduated from Dundy County High School in 1996. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on Oct. 4, 1999, and received an honorable discharge shortly afterward due to health problems. He is survived by his father, Jack Kimble, formerly of Gordon; his mother Debbie Miner of Gordon; one brother Jay of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; three sisters, Mindy (Jeff) Powell of Parks, Melissa (Luke) Snyder of Imperial and Mandy Kimble of Pittsburg, Kan.; four nephews, three nieces; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He also is survived by his grandparents Wynona Kimble and Dick and Arlene Minor of Gordon. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Dale Kimble. He loved the sandhills, cattle and horses, especially working with young horses. At the time of his death he was employed at the Jack Maddux Ranch near Wauneta.

His funeral was Thursday, March 28, at the United Church of Christ at Hyannis. Burial was in the Hyannis Cemetery. Cicmanec-Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen E. Ross, 96

(April 1) ALLIANCE - Kathleen E. Ross, 96, died Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Box Butte General Hospital. She was born March 21, 1906, at Big Piney, Mo. to Rufus M. and Amanda J. (Buckner) Wood.

In November 1928, she was married to Jewell A. Ross. They moved to Hemingford that year living there for a couple of years before returning to Missouri. In 1948 they moved to Alliance where she has resided since. She was a charter member of Plato Missouri Chapter of Eastern Star and was active in the First Baptist Church and Burlington Vets. Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and John Matz of Columbus; grandchildren Johanna Matz of Fort Collins, Colo., Julianna Matz of Taos, N.M.; and great-grandson John Esquibel of Taos, N.M. Her parents, husband, 1 sister, 2 brothers and son Maurice Ross preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, at the Bates-Gould Chapel with the Rev. Jim Rowe officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Nebraska Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 639, Alliance, NE 69301; or to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 700, Alliance, NE 69301. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy DeMartini, 79

(Apr. 2) ALLIANCE - Dorothy DeMartini, 79, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Highland Park Care Center. She was born Dec. 1, 1921, at Grand Island, Neb. to Michael and Catherine (Schulte) O'Malley.

She spent most of her life near Oakland, Calif., before moving to Alliance in 1994.

She is survived by her son Mikel Yarmon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters Eileen Wilkins of Alliance, and Mildred Gorin of Tacoma, Wash.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one brother, and one sister.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, at the Bates-Gould Chapel, with Father Jim Golka officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Highland Park Care Center. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Brian P. Cullan, 40

(Apr. 2) HEMINGFORD - Brian Patrick Cullan, 40, died from complications of an asthma attack on Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Box Butte General Hospital at Alliance. He was born Aug. 16, 1961, at Alliance to Tom and Loretta Cullan.

He graduated from Hemingford High School in 1979. He married Tammy Sample on Feb. 20, 1981. He worked at Sloan Irrigation for four years before starting his own business, Cullan Farm Service, which he operated for fourteen years. At the time of his death he was working as an electrician for PREMA. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the St. Agnes Academy Foundation, and an avid supporter of the YMCA. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Alfred Enyeart, and his grandparents, Harry and Lorene Cullan, all of Hemingford. He is survived by his sons, Tom 18, and Tim 16 and their mother, Tammy Sample; and special friend, Amy Johnson of Rapid City S.D. He also is survived by his parents, Tom and Loretta Cullan of Hemingford, sisters, Kelly Crawford and husband Jeff of Alliance, Angie Tompsett and husband Steve of Omaha, Shannon Allyn and husband Greg of Frisco Texas, Kate Cullan of Chicago Ill., Julie Meister of Morrill, and Bridget Cullan of Hemingford; grandmother, Gladys Enyeart of Hemingford; ten nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 4, at St.Bridget's Catholic Church at Hemingford, with Fr. Vincent Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. Wake services will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church. Memorials may be designated to the family, the Alliance YMCA building fund, the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department, or the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clifford E. Taylor, 82

(Apr. 2) ALLIANCE - Clifford E. Taylor, 82, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at the Highland Park Care Center. He was born Feb. 1, 1920, at Milbank, S.D. to John F. and Mable (Benedict) Taylor.

He married Myrtle Torness Nov. 28, 1941, at Sisseton, S.D. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. After the service he returned to St. Paul, Minn. and later to Ortonville, Minn. where he joined in the family lumber business. He moved to South Dakota in 1960 to continue in the lumber industry and in the fall of 1970 returned to Minneapolis where he joined the North West Lumbermen's Association retiring from there in 1985. He moved to Alliance in April of 2001. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of the Oak Grove Lutheran Church at Minneapolis. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Sharon Taylor of Greeley, Colo.; daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Milton Strang of Alliance, and Lori and LeRoy Clausen of Elko, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, one sister, and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 5, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Rev. Chris Mottl will officiate. Inurnment will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery at Minneapolis. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

D. John "Doc" Bunner, 72

(Apr. 3) WHITMAN - Daniel John "Doc" Bunner, 72, died Tuesday, March 27, in an automobile accident near Merriman. He was born May 13, 1928, in Grant County, near Hyannis. His parents were George W. and Kathryn A. (Egan) Bunner.

He graduated from Hyannis High School in 1945. After serving with the U.S Army during the Korean War, 1954-56, he attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colo., earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1963. He was a member of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association and American Legion. He enjoyed rodeos, horse racing and a game of cribbage.

He is survived by his sister Betty Gentry of Sun Sites, Ariz.

Dr. Bunner's funeral was Saturday, March 31, at Adamson Community Complex in Cody, with Rev. Mark Nikont officiating. Burial was in Whitman Cemetery, with Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Sandoz Chapel of the Plains was in charge of arrangements.

Helene E. Hesse, 71

(Apr. 3) GREELEY, Colo. - Helene Edith Hesse, 71, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at her home. She was born April 19, 1930, at Alliance. Her parents were Clarence and Mary M. (Mayoue) Stannus.

She was married to Kenneth Hesse on Nov. 17, 1962, at the First Presbyterian Church at Greeley. She was a cosmetician for Gilbert Drug Stores for 15 years. She then worked in the sheet film industry for Kodak Colorado Division for 16 years. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Hesse of Greeley; son John S. Blumanthal of Cupertino, Calif.; daughter, Anne L. Simon of Loveland, Colo; grandson, Eric Blumenthal and Granddaughter, Lauryn DeAnne Simon. She also is survived by one sister, Della Golka of Greeley.

Mrs. Hesse's memorial service was Tuesday, April 2, at the First United Presbyterian Church at Greeley, with Dr. William Hamilton officiating. Inurnment was Tuesday, April 2, at the Alliance Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Humane Society of Weld County, 1620 42nd St., Evans, CO 80620.

Linda J. Sullivan, 57

(Apr. 3) SPOKANE, Wash. - Linda J. (Maloney) Sullivan, 57, died Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002, after a battle with Scleraderma and Multiple Sclerosis. Her family was at her side. She was born on Sept. 30, 1945, at Hay Springs.

She was raised on a wheat farm at Hay Springs. In 1968, she moved to Spokane with her husband Richard and daughter Valerie. In 1973, she gave birth to her second daughter, Cindy, and began her long battle with Scleraderma and Multiple Sclerosis. She was well known for her artistic and creative abilities with oil paints, ceramics and making porcelain dolls. She enjoyed working with her hands. She is survived by her husband Richard; and two daughters Cindy and Valerie Sullivan. She also is survived by two brothers, Dennis Maloney of Hay Springs and Steve Maloney of Chadron, formerly of Alliance; one nephew; and three nieces.

Mrs. Sullivan's funeral will be Saturday, April 6, at Hay Springs. A memorial service will be on April 13, at Spokane. A memorial has been established to Multiple Sclerosis charities.
