Patricia M. (Reiners) Koetter

Patricia M. (Reiners) Koetter, 75, of McCook died Saturday, April 1, 2006 at Community Hospital in McCook.

She was born on October 25, 1930 in McCook to Fred and Mary (Tines) Reiners. She attended school at Red Willow Schools. She studied nursing at Kansas City, Kansas and worked for many years as an R.N. at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook and later at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

On February 14, 1952, she married Arthur Koetter.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She enjoyed Doll Club and going to coffee with her many friends. Her greatest joys were her family and she took great pride in their accomplishments. Her grandchildren were a special joy in her life. Pat always had a kind word for everyone she knew and a smile was always on her face.

She is survived by her husband, Art; four daughters, Pam Sellers, Barb Brown and Gloria Barron and husband, Tom, all of McCook and Carri Case and husband, Todd, of York; one sister, Joan Mackey and husband, Bill, of Bloomington, Illinois; and nine grandchildren, Matt Sellers and Mitch Sellers of McCook, Kelsey (Sellers) Vakiner of Central City, Sara Brown, Samantha Brown and Blair Brown all of McCook, Jimmy Barron of McCook and Grant and Erin Case of York.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary; one sister, Marilyn Ann; many aunts, uncles, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Mass of Christian Burial took place on Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook with Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Burial in the Calvary cemetery. Rosary was Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Leo Joseph Kometscher

Leo Joseph Kometscher died Saturday, December 31, 2005 at Cambridge Hospital. He was 89 years old.

He was born April 29, 1916 at Lawrence to Henry and Catherine (Kuppenbender) Kometscher. He grew up and attended school in Lawrence.

He married Mary C. Walz on February 23, 1938 in Indianola. To this union three children were born.

He was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola.

He lived and farmed most of his life in the Indianola area. He enjoyed his family, farming and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary in 1960; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; four brothers; three sisters.

Survivors include: two sons, Donald Kometscher of Indianola and Bob and wife Loretta Kometscher of Commerce City, CO; a daughter, Darlene Lashley of Trenton; a brother, Martin Kometscher of Lincoln; three sisters, Mary Walz of Indianola, Frances Borgerding of Freeport, MN and Catherine Wolf of Clare City, MN; seven grandchildren; one step granddaughter, 13 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Rosary took place Wednesday evening, January 4th Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, January 5th at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola with Father Paul Witt officiating. Burial in St. Catherine’s cemetery.

Elizabeth (Deffer) Krous

Elizabeth “Betty” Deffer Krous, 87, of Indianola died on October 7, 2004 at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln NE.

She was born on November 25, 1916 in Indianola to Frank and Hazel (Phillips) Deffer.

She graduated valedictorian from Indianola High School in 1933, from McCook Junior College in 1935, and attended classes at the University of Nebraska.

She taught school at Indianola and Havana before working as a civilian employee for the United States Air Force at Lowry Air Field in Denver, CO during World War II. Following the war, she returned to Indianola and worked for the United States Bureau of Reclamation until 1954.

On March 27, 1954, she married Elwyn S. Krous at Indianola.

Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church and a 58-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death were: her son, Philip Anthony; three sisters, Carol Kjoller Waddell, Catherine Deffer and Marcella; one brother, Franklin.

Survivors include: her husband Elwyn; two sons, Dr. Henry F. Krous, San Diego, CA, and Kenneth E. Krous, Tulare, CA; one brother, General Philip A. Deffer, USA (ret), of San Antonio, TX; two grandchildren, Mrs.Tanja E. Boyd, Edmund, OK, and Dr. Timothy F. Krous, Oklahoma City, OK; four great grandchildren, Stuart, Laurel, Philip, and Cole.

Funeral services were Monday, October 12, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Indianola United Methodist Church with Pastor David Rowe officiating. Burial took place in the Indianola cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name to the scholarship fund at McCook Community College or a charity of choice.

Jeff Davis Lasater, Jr

Jeff Davis Lasater, Jr. of McCook died at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Saturday, April 1, 2006. He was 47 years old.

He was born in San Angelo, TX on April 17, 1958 to Jeff Davis and Dorothy LaVerne (Sprinkle) Lasater, Sr. He graduated from McCook High School in 1978. He worked at the Dayco Rubber Hose Plant for 17 years.

He was preceded in death by father.

Survivors include: his mother, Dorothy Blume and step-father, Arthur “PeeWee” Blume; a son, Mitchell Rayan Lasater and a daughter, Bridgett Ray Lasater, both of Kearney; a brother Terry Eugene Lasater and wife Raina of Wauneta and a sister, Kandy Jo D’Rozario and husband Greg of Tampa, FL.

Funeral services were Tuesday, 2 p.m. at the Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook with Pastor Randy Wahl officiating. Burial took place in the Calvary cemetery.

Memorials were being accepted in his name.

Avery Kent Lashley

Avery Kent Lashley, infant son of Curtis Kent and Emily Jo (Bach) Lashley, died Saturday, September 3, 2005, at McCook Community Hospital.

Avery’s survivors include his parents, Curtis and Emily Lashley of McCook; grandparents, Clifford and Phyllis Bach of Noorvik, Alaska and Randy and Carol Lashley of Trenton; great-grandparents, Arda Bach of Bethany, Missouri and Carl Miller of McCook; uncles, Matthew Bach and Cody Lashley both of Lincoln; and aunt, Megan Lashley of Trenton.

Preceding him in death were his great-grandparents, Rev. Einar Bach, Julian and Lois Hoschouer, Augusta Miller, and Elmer and Hazel Lashley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials were to be given in his name.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, September 7, 2005, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial took place in Calvary cemetery.

Augusta Crescentia (Andrijeski) Miller

Augusta Crescentia Miller, 90, died Wednesday, September 08, 2004 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Augusta was born on March 4, 1914 at St. Ann in Frontier County to Francis Xavier and Crescentia Grace (Mumm) Andrijeski. She was baptized on April 19, 1914. She was raised to womanhood on a farm south of St. Ann.

On May 18, 1932 she married Carl Frank Miller of Culbertson, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. To this union eight children were born. Augusta and Carl began their married life on a farm north of Culbertson and later moved to a farm in Frontier County near St. Ann. In June, 1984 they retired and made their home in McCook

Augusta loved to plant and raise a large garden; she loved her flock of chickens and especially enjoyed her rose garden with many varieties and colors of rose bushes. In her later years she learned to crochet and made many beautiful articles for family and friends. They celebrated 72 years of married life.

She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Altar Societies at both St. Ann’s and St. Patrick’s and Legion of Mary. Augusta was a member of the St. Ann Altar Society for over 50 years.

Augusta was a loving, kind and generous wife, mother and grandmother. Augusta had great love and pride for her family. She taught them to love and respect their country, their family, neighbors, friends and God. She lived a life devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Rosary. She will be remembered for her prayerful life and willingness to pray for all people in need.

Preceding her in death were her parents; seven brothers, John, Herman, Frank, Peter, George, Tony and Edward; two sisters, Matilda Andrijeski and Mary Pick; two grandsons, Lee Anthony Miller and Christopher Weskamp.

Survivors include: her husband Carl of McCook; eight children, Richard Miller and wife Retha of Cody, WY, Laverne Miller and wife Bernadette of Whitelake, SD, Kenneth Miller and wife Jeanie of Longmont, CO, Charlene Weskamp and husband Andy of Norton, KS, Carla Teel and husband Dewey of Neligh, Leo Miller and wife Diane of Lincoln, Melvin Miller and wife Jerry of McCook and Carol Lashley and husband Randy of Trenton; 31 granchildren and 70 great-grandchildren.

Rosary took place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Friday at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Patrick’ Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial took place in Calvary cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family had requested memorials to St. Ann’s Catholic Church or the Elizabeth House in Kearney.

Edmond Oscar Lauer

Edmond Oscar Lauer died Wednesday (June 2, 2004) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. He was 99 years old.

He was born April 8, 1905, one of 16 children, to Edward and Magdaline (Volmer) Lauer at Aurora. The family later moved to Merna where he farmed with his father and brothers.

He came to McCook looking for work, met and married Martha Tellie Wall on March 8, 1935. To this union three children were born; daughters, Velma & Geraldine and one son, Larry. Martha preceded him in death in December of 1947.

On March 25, 1952 he married Emilie Beck Baumgartner. She had a son Alex Baumgartner. Ed and Emilie then had a son, Victor. They farmed until 1961 when he rented his farm land. Emilie preceded him in death in 1981.

He then resided with his son, Victor, and wife for four years, later he lived with his daughter, Velma and husband for four years and later in his own home for four years until skilled care was necessary. At that time he moved to Willow Ridge and the last five and a half years he lived at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was respected and loved deeply by his children and grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wives Martha and Emilie; stepson, Alex Baumgartner and one grandchild, Michelle Marie Kircher; five brothers, Albert, Gus, Archie, Bill and John; sister, Victoria Wagner and two sisters in infancy.

Survivors include two daughters, Velma Kircher and husband Harold “Bud” of McCook and Geraldine Benjamin of Funk; two sons, Larry and wife Barbara of McCook and Victor and wife Sandy of Aztex, New Mexico; three brothers, Fred and wife Marie of California, Herbert and wife Velma of McCook and Karl and wife Alvina of Broken Bow; two sisters, Nettie Kilmer of Fremont and Leona Fogle of Hanford, California; sisters-in-law, Pauline Lauer of North Platte and Rema Lauer of Lush, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services were Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Wahl officiating. Burial took place in Riverview cemetery.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Donald D. Lehl

Donald D. Lehl died at his home in McCook Tuesday (December 28, 2004). He was 85 years old.

He was born November 7, 1919 to Conrad and Katie (Arndt) Lehl at Ft. Morgan, CO. He lived most of his life since 1922 in McCook. He attended McCook High School with the class of 1937. He attended the University of Iowa.

He married Mary Estaline Phelps on August 21, 1939 at Cedar Rapids, IA. To this union three children were born.

He served in the United States Air Force during WW II in the European Theater from January 1943 – October 1945 as a maintenance technician on B-17's.

He owned and operated Lehl Plumbing in McCook for 25 years. After he closed his business, he worked for Anderson Plumbing in Kearney from 1970- 1980.

He was a member of St. Albans Episcopal Church, the Elks; and was a volunteer at the Food Pantry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Henry & Raymond and one sister, Eileen Loose.

Survivors include his wife Mary of McCook; three children, Donna Baum of Lubbock, TX; Charlie Lehl of Lincoln; and Mary Jane Lentz and husband Lin of St. Louis, MO; 3 grandchildren, Georgia Redding of St. Louis, MO, Chad Baum of Arlington, TX and Darcy Marshall and husband Brandon of Lubbock, TX; and 2 great-grandchildren, Ty & Bradi Marshall of Lbbock, TX.

Memorials were being accepted in his name or may be given to the Food Pantry.

Funeral Services took place Friday (December 31, 2004) 2 p.m. at St. Albans Episcopal Church with Rev. Sam R. Williams officiating. Burial in Memorial Park cemetery.

Emma C. (Flaherty) Lehn

Emma C. Lehn, 89, died Thursday, May 26, 2005 at Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad.

On December 4, 1915 she was born in Lawrence to John and Mary (Baune) Flaherty. She attended Indianola High School and had lived in this area most all of her life. She moved to Cozad in 1991.

She married Lawrence B. Lehn at Indianola on December 26, 1949.

She was a member of St. Partick’s Catholic Church in McCook and after moving to Cozad, Christ the King Catholic Church, and the Alter Society. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband on June 20, 1990; four brothers, John, Tom, Hank and Pat; and three sisters, Ellen, Mary Ann and Kathryne.

Survivors include: a son, Dennis Lehn and wife Sally of Shelton; two daughters, Eugenia Meissner and husband Kenneth of Cozad and Delores “Dee” Lehn of McCook; a sister, Nellie Patrick of Aurora, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Rosary took place Tuesday, 7 p.m. at the Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, 11 a.m. at St Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Jerel Scholl officiating. Burial in Calvary cemetery.
