Anna Bell (Deller) Lenhart

Anna Bell Lenhart, of Firestone, CO, formerly of Indianola, died Friday, September 9, 2005 near Smithfield, NE. She was 72 years old.

Anna Bell was born on March 5, 1933, at Bushong, KS to Arthur Olin and Anna Bell (Dotson) Deller.

On December 23, 1950, she married Floyd Stewart Lenhart at Yates Center, KS. To this union six children were born. They made their home in Garden City, KS. Anna Bell was a busy homemaker as well as owner/operator of Lenhart Sweet Shoppe for 40 years where she made specialty cakes and candies. She enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening in her free time.

Anna Bell was a member of the Moose and Eagle’s Lodge in Garden City. She later moved to Indianola where she lived for six years. She was a member of the McCook Egan Baptist Church. Anna Bell was living in Firestone with her daughter at the time of her death.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Floyd; her parents, Arthur and Anna Bell Deller; one brother, Arthur Deller and one sister, Florence Deller.

Survivors include one son, Michael Dean Lenhart and wife, Jacque, of Bedford, IA; five daughters, Betty Ann and husband, Ben Walker, of Bertrand, Gail Irean and husband, Andy Langer, of Firestone, CO, Brenda Sue and husband, Randy Grubbs, of Hugoton, KS, Gwen Janine and husband, Bernie Hahn, of Liberal, KS and Anita Diane and husband, Don Yates, of Loveland, CO; one brother, David Deller of Burns, OR; four sisters, Viola and husband, Ocie Williamson, of Rogers, AR, Hazel and husband, Harold Sumstine, of Stover, MO, Mary Evelyn Chrisman of Warrensburg, MO and Lorraine and husband, Dale Burson, of Chillicothe, MO; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and two more on the way.

Memorials were to be given in her name to the American Breast Cancer Society.

Graveside services were Wednesday, September 14, 2005, 10:30 a.m. at the Indianola cemetery with Mike Roth officiating. Burial in the Indianola cemetery.

R. G. Loose

R. G. “Riney” Loose, 80, died Tuesday, July 05, 2005 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

He was born March 4, 1925 in Brush, Colorado to George and Pauline (Kauffman) Loose.

He grew up and attended school in Brush and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1942 – 1945.

He married Eileen M. Lehl in Oberlin, Kansas on August 29, 1942. They had three children, Terry, Randy and Kim.

He was the owner and operator of the Loose & Smith Pool Hall. Later he also drove a delivery van for the Jewell Company and also drove the Handi Bus for the City of McCook.

He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen on November 26, 1993; and a son, Randy, in November of 1982.

Survivors include his son, Terry Loose and wife Cheryl of Broomfield, Colorado; a daughter Kim Rouse and husband Terry of McCook; two brothers, Larry Loose of Lexington and Don Loose and wife Naomi of Warren, Michigan; two sisters, Lillian Urbach and husband Harold of Coppell, Texas and Gladys Knaus and husband Dick of Longmont, Colorado; two grandchildren, Greg Loose and wife Julie of Chicago, Illinois and Erica Amos and husband Mark of Independence, Missouri; four great grandchildren, Fuller and Charlie Loose and Kendra and Kara Amos.

Memorials were being accepted in his name.

Memorial services were Friday at 10 a.m. at Cornerstone Fellowship Church with Mike Roth officiating.

Donald Bruce Mackey

Donald Bruce Mackey, 71, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at his home in McCook.

Donald was born on April 5, 1933, at Bird City, KS to Bruce and Ruth L. (Cotton) Mackey. He graduated from McCook High School in 1952.

On April 23, 1953, he entered to US Army and served in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on April 13, 1955. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves for another eight years.

He was employed by the Rubber Hose Plant until the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and McCook Eagles.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Harold Mackey; and one niece, Kimberly Schaffer.

Survivors include his brother, Michael Foley and wife, Marie, of McCook; sisters, Velda Nadine Guirrere of Costa Mesa, CA, Katherine and husband, Kenneth Peters, of Simi Valley, CA and Karen and husband, Ron Schaffer, of Mack, CO; Special companion, Lorine Bauguess; numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials were to be given in his name.

Graveside services took place Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at Memorial Park cemetery in McCook, with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating.

Robert Paul Malleck

Robert Paul Malleck, 68, of McCook, died Sunday, January 15, 2006 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born January 30, 1937 in Indianola, to Charles L. and Lorene Agnes (Weskamp) Malleck. He graduated from Red Willow High School in 1955 and attended McCook Community College where he played football.

Robert was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Knight’s of Columbus, and the McCook Elk’s Lodge. He coached his son and daughters in softball and baseball and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities. He also touched many young peoples’ lives through his love of sports. He and his family were awarded “Family of the Year” by the YMCA in 1981.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Christopher; his parents, Charles and Lorene Malleck; and one brother, Darrel Malleck.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of McCook; son, Ray, and wife Joyce Malleck of Holyoke, Colo; three daughters, Joan and husband Randy Bass of Culbertson, Kellie and husband Jim Mullen, and Cheryl and husband Deon Leitner all of McCook; four brothers, Kenneth and wife Nita Malleck, Gene and wife Marjorie Malleck all of McCook, Archie and wife In Suk Malleck of Kileen, Texas, and Loyce and wife Marilyn Malleck of Denver; one uncle, John and wife, Mildred Weskamp of McCook; 11 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-granddaughters.

In lieu of flowers memorials were to be given in his name.

Rosary took place Thursday, January 19, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel.

Funeral services were Friday, January 20, 2006, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Brethour officiating. Burial in Calvary cemetery.

Lorene Agnes (Weskamp) Malleck

Lorene Agnes Malleck died Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 94 years old.

Lorene was born on October 21, 1910, at Indianola to John Walter and Lena (Reiners) Weskamp. She attended rural school in Red Willow County.

On January 17, 1929, she married Charles LeRoy Malleck at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook. They were blessed with six sons. They made their home on a farm near Indianola. A few years later they moved to a farm near Imperial and later moved back to the McCook community. Lorene moved to McCook in 1983. She was living at Hillcrest Nursing Home at the time of her death.

Lorene was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was also a member of the Better Aims Extension Club and a card club. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Charles Malleck on February 10, 1972; son, Darrel Malleck on November 7, 2002; three brothers, Griff, Ernest, and Archibald Weskamp; sister, Bernadine Switzer; grandson, Christopher Malleck and twin great-grandchildren, Casey and Tracey Malleck.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Malleck and wife, Nita, of McCook, Gene Malleck and wife, Marjorie, of McCook, Robert Malleck and wife, Marilyn, of McCook, Archie Malleck and wife, In Suk, of Killeen, TX, and Loyce Malleck and wife, Marilyn, of Denver, CO; daughter-in-law, Lois Malleck of Amarillo, TX; one brother, John Weskamp and wife, Mildred, of McCook; 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Rosary took place Friday, February 18, 2005, 6:15 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial was on Saturday, February 19, 2005, 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial in Calvary cemetery.

James Monroe Manley

James Monroe Manley, 81 died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Cambridge Manor in Cambridge.

He was born June 19, 1924 to Edgar and Sarah (Stewart) Manley in Edison. He attended McCook Public Schools.

He married Rowene Myers on June 6, 1948, to this union one son, Jerry, was born. They made their home in McCook.

He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in McCook for about 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Sarah; and two brothers, Edgar and Keith.

Survivors include his wife, Rowene; his son Jerry Manley and wife Sue all of McCook; three grandchildren, Anthony Manley and wife Tiffany, Kevin Manley and wife Brendy and Valerie Manley and significant other Nathan Cooper; eight great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Sean Manley, Cebastian, Sky, and Mikah, Manley, Amelia, Makenna, and Madison Cooper.

Memorials were being accepted in his name.

Inurnment services took place Monday, April 3, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Memorial Park Columbarium in McCook, with Pastor Richard Karr officiating.

Bradley Masters

Bradley “Buck” Masters, 85, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

Bradley was born on December 30, 1918, at McCook to Merle E. and Ruth D. (Daughtery) Masters. He graduated from Red Willow High School in 1936.

On December 18, 1941, he entered the US Air Force and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 27, 1945. He returned to the McCook community where he farmed all of his life.

On December 10, 1954, he married Darlene Mackey. To this union four daughters were born. She preceded him in death on October 8, 1984.

Bradley was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, American Legion and McCook Elks Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Merle and Ruth Masters; his wife, Darlene; and one sister, Margie Leath.

Survivors include his four daughters, Marilyn Masters of Lincoln, Marsha and husband, Lyle Pohlmeier, of Lawrence, Caroline and husband, Jerry Goebel of Hastings, and Mary and husband, Larry Arnold, of Lincoln; one sister, Carol Borgman of McCook; and step-son, Gary Mackey and wife, Vicki, of Fort Collins, CO; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were Thursday, October 7, 2004, 10 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery.

Memorials were to be given in his name to Memorial United Methodist Church.

Velma Evelyn (Poush) Matz

Velma Evelyn Matz died Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Syracuse, Nebraska. She was 94 years old.

Velma was born on August 1, 1910 to Allen Henry and Vevia C. (Turner) Poush at Memphis, Nebraska. She grew up in Cambridge and attended Cambridge Public Schools. She came to McCook in 1941 and was employed at Woolworth’s and Schuering’s Bakery.

On December 29, 1945, she married Peter J. Matz at Oberlin, Kansas. After her husband’s death on August 6, 1959, she started working for DeGroff’s Department Store in the ladies apparel. She retired in 1975.

She was a 50 year member of the First Congregational Church in McCook and Eureka Chapter #86 Eastern Star. Other membership included the Daughter’s of the Nile- Hastings, Bahia Nilettes, Federated Woman’s Club, Burlington Northern Veteran’s Ladies Auxiliary and American Association of Retired People.

Preceding her in death were her parents Allen and Vevia Poush; her husband, Peter Matz; three brothers, Paul, Homer and Omar in infancy; and sister-in-law Ruth Poush.

Survivors include niece, Barbara Clark and husband, Scott of Syracuse; great-nephew, Joshua Clark and wife Amy of Ashland; great-niece, Hilary Seelhoff and husband Andy of Unadilla; and sister-in-law Virginia Poush of Syracuse; and two great-great nephews.

Memorials may be given in her name to the First Congregational Church or the McCook Senior Center.

Funeral services were Monday, November 29, 2004, 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in McCook with Pastor Steve King officiating. Burial took place in Fairview cemetery, Cambridge, Nebraska.

Robert B. McKillip

Robert “Bob” B. McKillip died Monday (August 8, 2005) at Community Hospital in McCook. He was 77 years old.

He was born October 22, 1927 in McCook, to George J. and Rose A. (Anderjaska) McKillip. He lived most of his life in the Hayes Center area. He graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1944.

He married Janet R. Stewart on June 13, 1951 in McCook at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. To this union four children were born, Joyce, Marjorie, Nancy, and Rodney.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946 during WWII. He farmed all of his life and also repaired phone lines. He had a great love for his family as well as hunting and the outdoors.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hayes Center, Knights of Columbus of McCook, the McCook Elks Club, and the Chris Hansen American Legion Post #203.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers-in-laws, Virgil Lytle, Floyd Bailey, Raleigh Myers and Clyde Hopper; a sister-in-law, Helen Bailey.

Survivors include: his wife Janet, of Hayes Center; three daughters, Joyce Vinson and husband Larry of Sallisaw, OK, Marjorie Porter and husband Larry, Nancy Willers and husband Joel all of McCook; a son Rodney McKillip and wife Alice of Hayes Center; a sister, Evelyn Lytle of McCook; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Myers of Palisade and Artie Hopper of Huntsville, AR; two brothers–in-law, Bill and wife Bettye Stewart of McCook, and Jim and wife Lynda Stewart of Little Rock, AR; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials were to be given in his name.

Rosary took place Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial in Sacred Heart cemetery at Hayes Center.
