Joe Dillinger
Joe Alan Dillinger, 59, of Harrisburg, Neb. died Sunday, March 23, 2003 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.. Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 27 at the Kimball Evangelical Free Church, 101 S. Walnut St. Pastors Carl Yuill and Rick Parker will officiate. Private inurnment will take place at the Kirk cemetery in Banner County.
Memorials may be made to the Joe Dillinger Memorial Fund in care of the family. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
He was born May 14, 1943 in Cassville, MO, a son of Emil and Olive (Turner) Dillinger. He lived in Missouri for much of his early life and graduated from high school in Cassville. He moved to Banner County from there in 1982.
Joe raised sheep and cattle in Banner County until his death. He was a very proud to be a life member of the National Rifle Association. He attended church at the Kirk Chapel in Banner County. He and Lois Peterson were married
on August 1, 1977 in Miami, Okla.
He is survived by his wife Lois, two daughters, Vicki Grubbs and her husband Curtis of Harrisburg, and Jenn Dillinger of Kimball, one brother James Dillinger and his wife Sunnie of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and three grandchildren, T.J., Christina, and Hadassah Grubbs all of Harrisburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Amil.
David Priest, Jr.
David Priest, Jr. of David City, Neb. passed away March 22, 2003 in Lincoln, Neb. He and his family lived in Kimball, Neb. for a while where he managed the Beef & Brunch Restaurant.
He was born March 27, 1955 at Lincoln, Neb. to David Sr. and Betty (Weyand) Priest. He married
Jody Kopecky June 7, 1986 in Lincoln, manager at Kabredlos in Lincoln.
He was a member of the Episcopalian Church; past Vice President of the National J.C.’s, and member of Independence Missouri J.C.’s.
Survivors include his wife Jody Kopecky; sons Shane Priest, David City, Aaron, Shawn, and Joshua of Independence, Mo.; daughters Whitney Priest, David City; stepdaughter Nicole Rotter, David City; father David Priest Sr., Phoenix, Ariz., stepmothers Judy and Cherill Priest; brothers and sisters-in-law Mark (Diane) Priest, McCook, Neb.; half brother Chris Priest, Chicago, Ill.; half sister Lisa; 2 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother Betty Bowen and mother-in-law Dorothy Kopecky.
Funeral services were March 25 and a wake service was March 24 with Father Robert Garheart officiating. Knott Funeral Home in David City was in charge of arrangements. Burial was at St. Mary’s and St. Peters in rural Bellwood.
Donald Wilson
Private family services will be held for Don G. Wilson, 75 of Buffalo, Wyo. and formerly of Kimball, who passed away March 15, 2003, at his home. Friends may donate to the Suzie Bowling Lawrence Hospice in care of the Adams Funeral Home that is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Glen Wilson was born on September 26, 1927 in Kimball, Neb. to Melvin and Alice Wilson. He grew up and received his schooling in Kimball. He joined the U.S. Army when he was 16 and served in Germany during WWII. After his discharge from the service he and two of his brothers owned and operated the Wilson Brothers Trucking.
He was married
on May 7th, 1951 in Lexington, Neb. to Millie Morris and they made their home in Kimball for a few years before moving to Wheatland, Wyo. where he and his brothers operated Wilson Brother's Ready Mix in Wheatland and Kimball. They sold the ready mix company in 1972 and moved to Buffalo where they purchased the Bald Mountain Trailer Court and also owned and operated the Big Horn Sportsman.
In 1976 they moved to Arizona where they lived for 12 years. While in Arizona, Don became a trained Silversmith. They moved back to Buffalo in 1991 and opened Don's Rock and Gift Shop which he, his wife and son, Donnie, operated.
He is survived by his wife Millie of Buffalo; two sons, Don Wilson Jr. of Buffalo and Gary Wilson of Wheatland; one daughter Pamela Sue Brown of Monument, Colo.: one sister Darlean Swain of Billings, Mont.; two brothers Bill Wilson of Wheatland, Wyo. and Dick Wilson of Kimball; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Fern Loree Schuler
Fern Loree (Razak) Schuler, 86, of Redington and formerly of Kimball, passed away at the Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colo. March 17, 2003 following heart surgery. Her memorial service was March 21 at the Redington Community Church with the Reverend Rick Parker and Nevell Razak officiating. Cremation was held at Fort Collins. Memorials may be made to the Redington Community Church or Camp Rock at Redington. Jolliffe Funeral Home at Bridgeport was in charge of the arrangements.
Fern was born December 27, 1916 at Collyer, Kan. the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Brown) Razak. She was united in marriage to Chester Bernard Schuler on May 6, 1939 at Ellsworth, Kan. Fern moved many times over the years, living in Russell, Kan.; Kimball, Neb., Roundup, Mont., and Bridgeport, Neb. The Redington community had the good fortune to have her longer than she had ever lived anywhere.
Fern thoroughly enjoyed leading the singing at the rest home twice a month, where she made many friends. Music was always special in Fern's life. She was a member of the Redington Community Church and an avid supporter of Camp Rock. She was also very active in the Willing Workers Club.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Darrell D. and Mary Lou Schuler of Redington; grandchildren Lori Rachel Nerud and her husband Frank, Darrell Dwayne Schuler II and his wife Susan, Robert Alan Schuler, and Michele Lynn Blakeslee and her husband William; great-grandchildren Frank Dylan and Rachel Marie Nerud, Stephanie Louise and David Bernard Schuler, Dakota and Linz Marie Douglas, and Michael James Schuler; brothers C. Kenneth Razak of Wichita, Kan., Virgil L. Razak of Pittsburg, Kan., W. Nevell Razak of Parker, Colo., and Danny Ray Razak of Abilene, Kan.; sisters Dorothy Arlene Monroe of Wichita, Kan., Thelma Jane Davis of Newton, Kan., and Lula Corrine Megli of Evansville, Ind.; sister-in-law Wanda Razak of Hutchinson, Kan.; many children and grandchildren of Camp Rock who called her "Grandma Fern, " and a host of close friends of many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on January 2, 1994, son Terrill Alan Schuler on December 13, 1998, and brothers Vernon D., Glen E. and Buster Razak.
Ryan Berg
Ryan Gary "Berger" Berg, 21 of Riverton, Wyo., died Jan. 27, 2003. He was the son of Bryan and Stacie (Leininger) Berg, and the grandson of Bill and Carole Leininger, formerly of Kimball and the grandson of Lena Theiman of Kimball.
He died at his family home after a long battle with leukemia and ultimately brain cancer. He as born Feb. 7 1981 in Forest Grove, Ore. Memorial services were Feb. 1 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Riverton.
His family said he was best known for his free spirit, friendships, smiles and hunting stories.
Survivors include his parents; sisters Brynne, Jennifer and Kristine; grandparents; great grandparents; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Memorials may be made in care of Davis Funeral Home, 2203 West Main, Riverton, Wyo., 82501 to benefit Primary Children's BMT Unit, Wyo. Medical Center Oncology Unit, or charity of donor's choice.
Jessie Mayer
Jessie Mayer, 93 of Potter, died March 9, 2003 at her home in Potter. Funeral services were March 13, in the Potter United Methodist Church with her grandson, The Rev. Mike Lade of Camarillo, Calif. officiating. Burial was in the Potter cemetery.
Memorials have been established in care of the Potter State Bank for the Potter Museum or the Potter Library.
Jessie Lee Mayer was born on Aug. 25, 1909, north of Potter to William and Cora (Brothers) Goding. She came to town to go to school and graduated from the Potter High School. She attended Chadron State College. She taught two years north of Potter and several years later, taught at Brownson.
In 1931, she married
Maynard Mayer at Hyannis. They lived above the Potter State Bank for a while, before moving to the Mayer family farm northeast of Potter. To this union three children were born, Chuck in 1933, Sandra in 1937 and Monty in 1946. They moved off the farm and into Potter in 1975.
Her interests were arrow-head hunting, junking, doll collecting, the local museum and the local library. She loved planting trees. Jessie was a life-long member of the Eastern Star and the Royal Neighbors. Survivors include her three children, Chuck Mayer of Clatonia, Neb., Sandra Tschumperlin of Dayton, Nev. and Monty Mayer of Pocatello, Idaho; three sisters: Leota Sarraf of Cantonsville, Md., Eliza Beth Andersen of Sidney, and Joan Nielsen of Sierra Vista Ariz.; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Maynard; two brothers, Mark and Ray Goding; and one sister, Edna Trapolino.
Olen Vining
Pastor Olen Marshall Vining, Jr., 82, of Velva N.D. and formerly of this area, died Feb. 17, 2003, in his home. Funeral service were Feb. 21, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butte, N.D. A private burial will take place at a later time. Olen was born April 22, 1920 to Olen M. Vining, Sr. and Ella Edwards Vining in Mississippi. He grew up in Louisiana and joined the US Army in 1941. While stationed in Nebraska he met Alice E. Hickman and married
her on luly 2, 1944 in Alliance, Neb. After his discharge from the Army, he worked in several different professions before entering Manhattan Bible College and becoming a minister. He preached in several churches in Kansas and Nebraska besides working as a typesetter for newspapers. They moved to North Dakota in 1964 and he worked as a social worker for Rolette County in Rolla until 1975.
He then moved to Velva where he worked for the National Child Safety Council for ten years before returning to the ministry full time. His last church was St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Butte, where he served for nine years. After his retirement, he started doing wood crafts and enjoyed making gifts for family and friends. He spent a lot of time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Following Alice's death on April 12, 1993, Olen continued to live in Velva. He served as chaplain for the Velva American Legion for over 20 years.
Survivors: Sons, O. Marshall (Jean) Vining, Fargo, Mark Vining, Devils Lake, and Daniel (Belinda) Vining, Rolla; daughters, Donna (Gene) Jenson, Velva, Mary (Serge) Fournier, Las Vegas, Nev. and Doreen (Rolf) Sullivan, Bloomington, Minn.; brother-in-law Ira Hickman of Kimball; sisters-in-law Mary Penick of Harrisburg and Charlotte Hickman of Bushnell; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grand children; sisters, Annie Fortenberry, Biloxi, Miss. and Inez Perriloux, Ponchatula, La.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
Olen was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers and one sister.
Emma Lou Rademacher
Emma Lou (Caprna) Rademacher, 89, formerly of Hillsboro, Illinois, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the Kimball County Manor. She was born June 21, 1913 at Pratt, Kan. She was a homemaker and school teacher. She has a Masters from University of Illinois. She married
Louis E. Rademacher on Feb. 1, 1935.
Survivors include Dr. Lon (Mary Ann) Rademacher of Ellison Bay, Wisc.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Pastor Dieter (Georgia) Rademacher and Rachel and Beth of Kimball, Attys. Tom and Jen Hanrahan and Anna, Isaac, Mary and Sarah of Richmond, Va., and Major David (Dee) Rademacher and Nolan, Garrett and Mason of Columbus, Mo.; and sister Jean Talbott of Hutchinson, Kan.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Edward and Perry.
Funeral services will be held at Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, Friday, March 21, 2003 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Matt Ferguson and Pastor Dieter Rademacher officiating. Burial will be at the Kettelkamp cemetery in Nokomis, Illinois.
Richard Cleveland
Richard Daniel "Dick" Cleveland, 90 of Kimball died on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at United Medical Center West in Cheyenne. Funeral services were March 11 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. The Rev. Roger Gillming officiated. Burial was in the Kimball cemetery.

He was born August 22, 1912 in Iowa, a son of George and Anna (Naggettz) Cleveland. He moved to the panhandle of Nebraska with his parents in 1919 and worked for various farmers in the area including the Olsen's and the Rasgorshek's. Dick served in the Army Air Corp during WW II as an aircraft mechanic.
He was honorably discharged in 1943. That same year he married
Pearl Doris Trumbull in Kimball. He farmed with his father-in-law Lou Trumbull from 1946 until 1961 until Lou's death. He then continued farming on his own until he retired in 1989.
He is survived by his wife Pearl of Kimball, a daughter Della and husband Elvie Meyers of Cheyenne, WY; four sons, Dennis and wife Lori Cleveland, Jim and wife Margaret Cleveland and Steve Cleveland all of Kimball, and Dale and wife Kathy Cleveland of Sidney. Also surviving are four sisters Mildred Morris of Greeley, CO, Dorothy and husband Harold Mein of Ft. Collins, CO, Ellen Sanders of Payette, ID, and Irene and husband Neil Smith of Fowler, CO and one brother Orlie Cleveland of Laporte, CO; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Lois Dindinger
Lois R. Dindinger, 93, of Potter, passed away Thursday morning, March 6, 2003 at the Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 14, at the Potter United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Frohs officiating. Burial will be in the Potter cemetery. Friends may stop at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Lois’ name to the Potter Rescue Unit or the Potter United Methodist Church. Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Lois Rose Dindinger, the daughter of Joseph Terry and Jessie Amanda (Flinders) Kingston, was born on Aug. 17, 1909 at Chicago, Ill. At the age of three, Lois traveled with her family by train and horse and wagon to Climax, Saskatchewan, Canada, where her father had staked his claim for their homestead. Following her eighth grade year of school, she traveled to Shaunavon Saskatchewan, Canada where she attended high school and business school. She was employed as a legal assistant in a law firm until meeting Raymond Henry Dindinger.
On February 3, 1929, Lois married
Ray at Shaunavon. They moved back to the United States, traveling across the country with Ray's work, settling in Potter in 1946. Lois will be remembered for her years of work as a newspaper correspondent. During that time, she worked for the newspaper in Holyoke, Colo., the Sidney Telegraph and the Western Nebraska Observer in Kimball and has served as an Avon and Tupperware Dealer and representative.
She had been a member of the Order or the Eastern Star, the Red Hat Society, served as a Recycling Center Volunteer, a Pep Club Sponsor, a Charter Member of the Hospital Auxiliary and a Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Sponsor. Lois was very active in the Potter United Methodist Church. She had been a member of the United Methodist Women, served as United Methodist Youth Fellowship Sponsor, Sunday School Teacher and worked with the United Methodist Sewing Group.
Survivors include son, Tom Dindinger and wife, Nancy, of Winter Park, Colo.; daughters, Ellen Madden, of Bull Head City, Ariz., Pat Wiekhorst and husband, Terrell, of Potter, and Vicky Matthies, of Studio City, Calif.; brother-in-law, Daniel Greenlay, of Macklin, Saskatchewan, Canada; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1957; and son Terry.
Charlotte E. Evertson
Charlotte E. Evertson, 93, died February 28, 2003 in Northglenn, Colo. She was formerly of Kimball.
She was born in Windsor, Colo., on March 30, 1909 to Lucy (Eaton) Evans and Jessie J. Evans.
She graduated from Windsor High School 1928. She received her teaching certificate from Greeley State Teachers College now UNC.
She taught at Indian Cave School near Stoneham, Colo., where she met and married
Clifford "Kip" Evertson on June 14, 1931. He preceded her in death in 1994.
They ranched and farmed in many places— Kimball, Neb., La Salle, Colo., Windsor, Colo., and Walden, Colo. (North Park). They bought a farm near Pine Bluffs, Wyo., in 1961. She moved to Windsor in 1994.
She enjoyed gardening, arrowheading, antiques, painting, quilting and traveling.
Survivors include daughters, Joyce L. Priest of Northglenn, Colo., and Janette (Doug) Fletcher of Royal City, Washington; six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lucile Mannon, Windsor, Colo., and Virginia Lotspeich, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Herman H. Rutz
Herman Herbert “Herb” Rutz, 89, affectionately known as “Pappy” by his family, died Monday, February 24, 2003 at the Tabitha Nursing Home in Lincoln, Neb. after a lengthy illness. His funeral will be Monday, March 3 at 11:00 a.m.. at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of the family, with a designation to be made at a later date. Friends may call at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, Sunday, March 2 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Monday, March 3 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Herman was born February 17, 1914 in Greeley, Colo., the son of Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Huwa) Rutz. He attended college at the University of Portland where he played football and participated in track. After college, he returned to Scottsbluff where he started the Lincoln Cab Company and built the cab and bus terminal in Scottsbluff. He was united in marriage to Mary Helen Zier November 2, 1937 at Scottsbluff. They lived in Scottsbluff until 1959 when they moved to Kimball where they operated the Best Western Motel and Holiday Restaurant and Bowling Alley. He was active in the Kimball Lions Club. They retired from the lodging business and moved to Lincoln in 1974. Herman was a loyal Nebraska football fan and enjoyed attending many university sporting events in Lincoln. He was united in marriage to Helen Knaub of Ogallala on December 21, 1985.
He was a member of the Indian Hills Community Church in Lincoln.
Herman is survived by his three sons: Dr. Tim Rutz and his wife Nancy of San Antonio, Texas; Tom Rutz and his wife Linda of Lincoln; Herb Rutz and his wife Kathy of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren: Chris Rutz of San Antonio, Texas; Dr. Kevin Rutz and his wife Nikki of Indianapolis, Ind.; Sheila Svoboda and her husband Tim, Julie Wondercheck and her husband Jordan, and Scott Rutz all of Lincoln; Amy Rutz of Aurora, Colo.; one great grandson: Dylan Charles Svoboda of Lincoln; three step-children: Gary Knaub and his wife Marilyn of Ogallala; Tom Knaub and his wife Laurel of Denver, Colo.; Donna Anderson and her husband Marlin of Newington, Conn.; two step-daughters-in-law: Sue Knaub and Ruth Knaub both of Ogallala; 15 step-grandchildren and 21 step-great grandchildren, brother: John Rutz and his wife Velma of Scottsbluff; Pauline Farris of Reno, Nev.; and Maude Collopy of Gering. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, three brothers, three sisters and four step-sons.
Carl Schwindt
Carl Schwindt, 92 of Gering, Neb. died Sun., March 2, 2003 at Heritage Health Care Center. Funeral services will be Thurs., March 6, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Doug Jones officiating. Interment will be at Bayard cemetery in Bayard, Neb. Memorials have been established to Prairie Haven Hospice and Heritage Health Care Center. Visitation will be Wed. from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
Carl was born on March 6, 1910 at Potopwa, Russia to Henry and Caroline (Reifschneider) Schwindt. Carl and four other children left Potopwa, Russia on the King Kiser Wilhelm Ship when he was three years old and settled in the Gering area. Carl and his wife, Henrietta (Fogel) Schwindt, who preceded him, moved to Bayard where they farmed and later moved to Kimball where Carl owned the Standard Station. Carl was later the Kimball Chamber Executive Director. Carl later married
Esther (Dietrich) Ostermiller and moved to Gering to make their home.
Carl joined the Lions Club in 1943 and was a lifetime member, and was also a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church. He served many offices in the Lions Club.
Carl's enjoyment in life was his family. He was a Christian and very solid and steadfast in his beliefs and actions throughout his life. He was proud to be an American citizen.
Carl is survived by his wife, Esther Schwindt of Gering; son Ronald and wife Connie of North Platte, Neb.; daughter Kathleen Stahla and husband Ed of Sitka, Alaska; daughter-in-law Florene Schwindt of Clifton, Colo.; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; brother David Schwindt and wife Tug of Alliance, Neb.; a stepson Dennis Ostermiller and wife Katherine of Newington, Conn., step-daughter Paula Bell of Ferndale, Wash., and five step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Henrietta Fogel Schwindt, son Jimmy Schwindt, daughter-in-law Charolette Nuss Schwindt, granddaughter Nikki Schwindt, brothers Henry Schwindt, and Fred Schwindt, sisters Katy Yekel, Suzanne Constance, Leah Bumpus, Emma Cheattle, Caroline Schwindt, Molly Osgood and Amy Libsack.
Gering Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
