James Lauer

James (Jim Lauer), 70, of Gillette, Wyo. died June 20, 2002 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital there. He is the brother-in-law to Vince and Gloria Heeg, formerly of Kimball. His wife Mary Grace (Heeg) of Gillette survives him. Graveside services were June 26 at the Greenwood cemetery in Sidney, Neb., where the couple lived many for years.

A memorial has been established to the Campbell County Memorial Hospital oncology unit and donations may be sent to the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. 5th St., Gillette, Wyo. 82716.

Claude Curtis

Claude E Curtis, 84, of Kimball County died June 17, 2002 at the Kimball County Manor. Memorial services were held June 26, 2002 at the Kimball county Manor Chapel with the Reverend Ed Newbury of St. Hilda’s Episcopal Church officiating. Cremation has taken place with burial to be held at a later time in Marion, Ohio.

He was born on October 30, 1917 in Jordan, Ky., to Jesse and Nancy (Breeder) Curtis. He married Helen Kellner on September 18, 1947 in Kimball. She died on December 8, 1999. They lived and worked in Kimball for a number of years. During these years, they made many friends and will be remembered for their caring and helpful ways.

He was a member of St. Hildas Episcopal Church.

He is survived by a sister, Peggie Duke of New Johnsonville, Tenn.; a step-son, Russell Kellner of Marion Ohio, and niece, Karen Bivens of Kimball; and grand-niece, Anna Hansen of Kimball.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen.

Doris Schildhauer

Doris M. Schildhauer, 65, of Dix, passed away Friday, June 21, 2002, at the Kimball County Hospital after a fight with cancer. Funeral services were held June 25, at the Cicmanec-Chamberlain-Pier Chapel in Gordon. Burial was in the Gordon cemetery.

She was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Gordon, to Lyle and Frances (Taylor) Becker. After attending Gordon Public Schools, she married Lester E. Dishong. They had four children, Carol, Sandy, Gary and Greg.

Through the years they lived on different ranches from the Sandhills to Banner County. She loved the ranch life because it allowed her to do what she loved most, cooking.

She later married Keith Haworth in 1979. They resided in Bridgeport, working for Gary's Implement until Keith died.

She later married Wayne Schildhauer and they moved to Colorado for a time before settling in Dix. She shared duties with Wayne as they worked as a team driving truck for L.W. Miller Co.

Survivors include her husband Wayne of Dix; children Carol Clarke (Randy) and Sandy Frickey (Dale), both of Bridgeport, Gary Dishong of Sidney; sisters, Delores Kelley and Marie Leavit of Scottsbluff and Kay; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren, and brothers- and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Greg and second husband, Keith Haworth.

Memorial contributions may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice, Dwart Cancer Treatment Center, the Kimball County Rescue Squad, or the donor's choice. Donations may be sent to Community First National Bank, P.O. Box 250, l Gordon, NE, 69343.

Linden Snyder

Linden C. Snyder, 60 of Banner County died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at Regional West Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with Reverend Charles Bonds officiating. Burial will follow in Kimball cemetery.

He was born September 24, 1941 in Kimball to Glen "Shorty" and Roberta (Sweatt-James) Snyder. He was a life long resident of the Kimball/Banner County area. He graduated in 1959 from Banner County School. He and Barbara Vandevort were married on March 1, 1980 in Gering. He worked for the Banner County Road Department for many years and also farmed in Banner County.

He was a volunteer fireman in Banner County and a member of the Lions Club of Harrisburg. He taught 4-H to his son, Mike for a year. He was a member of the True Country Dance Club, loved waltzing through live and dancing with his wife. He was proud to have won a waltz contest and to have met Kenny Rogers. He had a knack for making metal farm equipment toys.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Banner County; son, Michael Snyder and his wife Judy of Ontario, OR; daughters, Jeanette Snyder and her fiancÈe, Scott Williams of Scottsbluff and Rhonda Flick and her husband Terry of LaSalle, CO; brothers, Glendel Snyder and his wife Joan and Val Deane Snyder and his wife Kay all of Kimball; sister, Marva Schiessler and her husband Lanny of Sidney; six grandchildren; brothers- and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents and son Ricky preceded him in death.

Memorial Gifts may be made to the Linden Snyder Memorial Fund. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.

David Bymer

David Bymer, 51, passed away at the Bymer home in Pine Bluffs WY, on Monday, June 24, after a long illness. Services will be Friday, June 27, at 2 p.m., at the Methodist Church in Pine Bluffs WY.

Survivors include his son Chad Bymer of Greeley CO, daughter, Tami Bymer of Fort Morgan CO, mother, Betty Christensen Bymer of Pine Bluffs WY, brother, Randy Bymer of Bushnell NE, sisters, Rhonda Goodman of Cheyenne WY, Cathy Sawyer of Dallas TX, Lori Werner of Pine Bluffs WY; two grandchildren, many neices and nephews and cousins.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Harry Bymer Jr., and grandparents, Elmer and Barbara Christensen.

Shrader Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Albert Alexander

Albert M. Alexander, 93, of Galva, Kan. and formerly of Kimball, died at Memorial Hospital in McPherson, Kan. June 25, 2002.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Galva United Methodist Church and burial will be in the McPherson cemetery.

He was born Dec. 19, 1908 to Andrew A. and Jessie E. (Blair) Alexander in rural Galva. He attended North Diamond Country School and graduated from Good Hope Country School near Galva.

He was production Superintendent for Palmer Oil Corp. in Wichita, Kan. and owned and operated and oil field business in Kimball. He moved from Kimball to Galva in 1973.

He married Rosaline C. Russell July 28, 1929 in McPherson. She died June 14, 1980.

He was a member of the Galva United Methodist Church.

He is survived by son Kenneth Dean of Ogallala, Neb.; brothers Raymond of Moundridge, Kan. and Glen of Marion, Kan.; nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, son Clinton Dale and daughter Fern Ilene Wilson; brothers Clarence and Elton and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Galva United Methodist Church or Galva Senior Center. Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lance Hernandez, Sr.

Lance Hernandez, Sr., 79 of Kimball died on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial was June 17 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball with Reverend Francis Curran as celebrant. Burial was in Kimball cemetery.

He was born on December 25, 1922 in San Julian, Jalisco, Mexico to Cesario and Petra (Hurtado) Hernandez. The family moved to the Sterling, Colo. area when he was four years old. They later moved to Kimball where he grew up and graduated from Kimball County High School. He worked for a short time for the U. S. Government.

He married Ann Gonzales February 18, 1947 in Coachella, Calif. and returned to Kimball and started their family. He began working for the Union Pacific Railroad as a welder and grinder operator in the 1950's and retired from the railroad in 1985.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed time with his family and grandchildren and visits to the Wildcat Hills with them. He built his own home and enjoyed doing carpentry and working with his hands.

He is survived by daughters, Valerie Robles and her husband Frank of Scottsbluff, Bianca Howard of Albuquerque, NM, and Nancy Martin of Kimball; sons, Lance Hernandez, Jr. of Denver, Colo., and Aaron Hernandez and his wife Ann Marie of Kansas City, Mo.; brother, Joseph Hernandez and his wife Nellie of Kimball; and sisters, Hilda Frank and her husband Darrell of Kimball and Alice Folladori and her husband Vince of Sterling, Colo. Also surviving are ninr grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on October 29, 1995, one brother and one sister.

Memorial gifts may be made to Kimball Health Services Foundation or St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marvin Foster

Marvin Elgie Foster, 67, of Guernsey, Wyo., and formerly of Kimball died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at his home in Guernsey of natural causes. Funeral services were June 17 at the Platte Funeral Chapel in Wheatland, Wyo. Interment was at the Prairie Rest cemetery at Guernsey, with military graveside rites conducted by the Lake Guernsey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4471.

He was born July 5, 1934 in Kimball, to Elmer Elgie and Lois Edna (Hildebrand) Foster, and reared and educated in Bushnell, Neb. until 1948 when the family moved to Austin, Minn. He graduated from high school there in 1951. He entered the US Air Force in January of 1953 and served until being honorably discharged in October of 1962.

He operated a small engine repair service and drove truck in Rochester, Minn. He moved to Alliance, Neb., working for Burlington-Northern Railroad until retiring in 1985. He worked various jobs on farms until moving to Guernsey in 1994. He loved to fish, camp and make wood crafts.

He is survived by his wife, Mary B. Grimes of Guernsey; seven children, Nancy O’Neill of Rochester, Minn., Gail Foster of Scottsbluff, Denise Foster of Scottsdale, Ariz., Janine Burton of Alliance, Walt MacDonald of Iowa, Jeff MacDonald of Alliance, and Laura Dale of Wheatland; one brother, Duane Foster of Union Grove, Wisc.; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made to the Marvin E. Foster Memorial Fund, in care of Guernsey Community Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 699, Guernsey, Wyo. 82214-0669. Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of the arrangements.

Arthur Snyder

Arthur C. "Boney" Snyder, 96, of Loveland, Colo., formerly of Banner County, Neb., died June 18, 2002, at Loveland Good Samaritan Healthcare Center. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 24, at the Kimball cemetery, with Missionary Don Notz officiating. Viewing will be Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Cantrell Funeral Home, Kimball. A memorial service will be held at Loveland Good Samaritan Spiritual Life Center, with Chaplain Maria McLain Cox officiating, June 28 at 1:30 p.m. There is a viewing from 3 to 8 p.m. June 21 at Allnutt Funeral Service, Loveland.

Boney Snyder was born June 10, 1906, in Banner County to Mervyn and Mary Koenig Snyder.

He married Ella Mae Brown on December 20, 1931, at Gering, Neb. They lived in Banner County until retiring from farming 34 years ago. Prior to retiring, he assisted the Banner County Assessor & managed the Banner County Weed District. They enjoyed their retirement years traveling, spending winters in Arizona. They lived and helped out at the United Campground in Loveland during the summer months and made Loveland their year around home seven years ago. In April 2001 they moved to Loveland Good Samaritan Village.

He was a carpenter and enjoyed helping with remodeling projects. He played baseball with the Banner County Farmers and still had the ball he caught that won a tournament for the team. He was a charter member of the Harrisburg Lions Club and a member of the Kimball Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Bruce and wife Cherie of Ft. Collins, Colo.; brother-in-law Robert (Gerri) Brown of Kimball; a nephew raised as a son; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two step great-granddaughters; many in-laws and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, on Sept. 7, 2001; parents, brothers Meck, James, Glen and Herbert, sisters Pinkie Brown, Bessie Larson, Ruby Hanson and Susie Eckland, grandson David Brown and step great-grandson Joshua Norberg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Loveland Good Samaritan Village, 2101 Garfield Ave, Loveland, CO 80537 or Banner County Historical Society in care of Allnut Funeral Service, 2100 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, CO 80537.

Dale Halstead

Dale Halstead, 79 of Kimball died on Monday, June 10, 2002 at Kimball Health Services. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Rev. Roger Gillming and Rev. Dwayne Hunzeker officiating. Cremation will take place and burial of the remains will be at the Kimball cemetery immediately following the service.

Military honors will be presented by Kimball V.F.W. Post 2243. No visitation or viewing is scheduled.

He was born on July 5, 1922 in Banner County, to Merton and Margaret (Tjardes) Halstead and was a life long resident of the western Nebraska area. He graduated from Kimball County High School in 1940. During high school he worked for Safeway.

He entered the U.S. Army serving with the 65th Division for most of his enlistment. He served in England, France, Germany and Austria. He then returned to Kimball and worked for Safeway from 1946 to 1951. He spent a short time working for a farm implement company and then returned to Safeway, managing several stores. He was instrumental in working to remodel or start many of the Safeway stores throughout western Nebraska, South Dakota, and Colorado.

He returned to Kimball and worked for Ideal Market and later for Kimball County Co-Op retiring July 8, 1987. He then did volunteer work for the hospital and the schools.

He and Marilyn Stairs were married in Kimball on April 7, 1968. He was a member of the V.F.W. and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and also attended First English Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Kimball; children Leanne (Dave) Guenther of Negaunee, MI, Larry Halstead of Marbleton, WY, Terry Halstead of Denver, Nancy Halstead, Jeri Hays, and Annette (Gary) Morgan all of Kimball; stepchildren Bill (Teri) Stairs of Snohomish, WA, Sharon (Jerry) Williams of Kimball, Diane (David) Waters of McMinnville, OR, and David (Suzanne) Stairs of Chambers, NE; nine grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren; one great grandchild and seven step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Linda Kay and infant son Lee Ray and brothers William and LeRoy Halstead.

Memorial gifts may be made to Kimball Health Services Foundation.

Gus Sakelaris

Gus Sakelaris, Jr. 64 of Albuquerque, New Mexico and formerly of Kimball, died on May 29, 2002 at his home. A memorial service was June 1 at the French Mortuary Westside Chapel of Albuquerque.

He was born December 6, 1938 in Kimball to Gus and Luella Mae Sakelaris. He graduated from Kimball High School in May 1957. He was an honorary Fireman on the Kimball Vol. Fire Dept.

He has lived in Albuquerque since 1985 where he was employed as a maintenance technician at Cube Corporation. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed music, traveling, fishing and sports.

He is survived by his wife Lydia; children, Mike Sakelaris and Brenda Hoffman, and step children, Donna Tollardo and husband Dave, Amanda Chavez and husband Delbert, and Loretta Valdez, all of Albuquerque; sisters, Elaine Sandridge of Kimball and Dorothy Engstrom of Lincoln; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John.

Robert Shiery

Robert Dean Shiery, 63 of Kimball died on Monday, June 3, 2002 at Ogden, Utah. He had been staying with his son there due to ill health. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6 at the Kimball cemetery. The Rev. James Brown of Golden Prairie Baptist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.

He was born Sept 25, 1938 in Dallas County, Iowa to John and Pearl (Lyons) Shiery. He married Connie K. Fagen February 20, 1960 at Perry, Iowa. They lived in Iowa and moved to Cheyenne, Wyo. in 1976 and to Kimball in 1992.

He was an auto body repairman and worked at various auto shops in the area. He had served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1959.

He is survived by daughter Patricia Stricherz and her husband Jay of Aurora S.D., and sons, Keith Shiery of Ogden, UT, Robert Shiery, Jr. of Cheyenne, WY, and James Shiery of Kimball. Also one sister Martha Lee of Fremont, and two brothers, Bill Shiery of Denver, CO, and Richard Shiery of California, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Connie on April 14, 1998 and by his parents.

The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
