Eddie M. Noah

Eddie M. Noah, 71, a longtime Kimball resident, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at the Kimball County Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 6 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Doug Arnold of the Wanette, Okla. Church of Christ officiating.

He was born November 24, 1930 in Wewoka, Okla. a son of Coleman E. and Mary Etta (Strickland) Noah. He attended school there and was a member of the Boy Scouts. He worked for several years in Roberts Drugstore.

Eddie and Margaret Yeager were married May 4, 1948 in Holdenville, Okla. They lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska where Eddie worked in the oil fields. He retired from Antelope Energy in Kimball.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Sidney. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Shriner's. He was a Boy Scout leader for several years and an Explorer Post leader.

He loved fishing, golfing, hunting, watching his grandchildren participate in sports and he was also an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Kimball; daughters, Marcine Owens and husband Roger Owens of Sterling, Colo., and Marcia Hettinger of Mitchell; son, Mike Noah and wife Dar Noah of Kimball; and six grandchildren, Tyson and Derek Owens and Spencer, Amanda, Laura and Scott Noah.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and brother Jessie L. Noah.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or a charity of the donor's choice.

Larry Spencer

Larry Eugene Spencer, 63, of Dix died Sunday May 5, 2002 at Beverly Health Care in Scottsbluff. Funeral Services were to be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Rev. Robert Midgley officiating. Burial was to be in the Dix Rural cemetery.

He was born March 19, 1939 in Scottsbluff, Neb., a son of Eldon Carl and Josephine (Brannan) Spencer. He lived for a number of years in Gering, Neb., and graduated from high school there in 1958.

He had driven truck for over 30 years as an independent driver. He was a gun collector, enjoyed old western movies and country music. He was married to Diane Williams in Dix on October 11, 1980.

He is survived by his wife and sons Kevin Spencer and wife Rhonda of Gering and Randy Spencer of Mitchell, Neb., two daughters, Christine Wiges and husband Jeff of Ft. Morgan, Colo. and Sheryl Biesecker and husband Drew of Kimball; his parents Eldon and Jo Spencer of Gering; step son Daniel Tobin of Casper, Wyo., brother Duane Spencer and wife Jan of Greeley, Colo., and sister Clarice Kenyon of Colorado Springs, Colo; seven grandchildren with the eighth due this June.

Memorials may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice.

Vernon Hutton

Vernon M. Hutton, 80, of Dix died on Sunday, April 28, 2002 at the Veterans Home of Western Nebraska in Scottsbluff. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, at the Cantrell Funeral home of Kimball with Pastor Virgil Johnson of the Dix Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in the Dix Rural cemetery with military honors under the direction of American Legion Post 292 of Dix.

Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

He was born November 12, 1921 in Mariaville, Neb. a son of Byron and Ethel (Armstrong) Hutton. He was raised in attended public school there. As a youth he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp prior to WW II. He and his brothers formed a band and played at many barn dances.

He entered the Army in 1942 and was wounded in the Invasion of Normandy. He lived in Kimball County until 1963 when he started working for various construction projects around the country. He returned to Kimball in 1979 and shortly after that moved to Dix.

He was a carpenter and built some of the area missile sites and some Natural Gas Pumping Stations. He also worked for Plains Well Service and for Accessory Sales Company retiring from there.

He and Loretta Oliver were united in marriage August 29, 1970.

He had been a member of the American Legion at Dix

He is survived by his wife Loretta of Dix, son, Dean Hutton and wife Diana of Dix and daughters, Joyce Novotny and husband Lonnie of Ft. Collins, Colo. and Judy Shores of Bullhead City, Ariz, stepson Ralph Oliver, Jr. and wife Jeanie of Burden, Kan., brother Floyd Hutton and wife Avis, sister Ina Oamek and a Sister-in-Law Hope Hutton all of Bassett, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Two brothers and a grandson preceded him in death.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Vernon Hutton Memorial Fund.

Thomas Birdsall

Thomas E. Birdsall, former postmaster in Kimball, passed away on April 27, 2002, from complications of Alzheimer's and cancer and was with his family in Utah.

There will be no public memorial service, and the family requests that memorial gifts be made to either of the Utah chapters of the Alzheimer's Association or the American Lung association.

He was born on October 20, 1924, in Marietta, Oklahoma. His parents were Thomas Edward and Nora Hartman Birdsall.

He married Rebekah A. Teel on Christmas Day, 1944. They met at a U.S. Army hospital where Becky was a nurse and he was recuperating from injuries sustained in a training exercise. They have three children and three grandchildren: son, Gary and wife Paulette of Bountiful, Utah, son, Rick and wife Glenda of Greeley, Colo., and daughter, Kathy of Washington, D.C.

He worked with his Dad in the blacksmith and welding business in Oklahoma, attended college at North Texas State Teachers College, was in the oil business with Halliburton Company and served as Postmaster in Kimball.

Clara R. Hosher

The mother of Sharon Johnson of Kimball, Clara R. Hoshor, 87, died April 23, 2002 at Nye Pointe Nursing Center in Fremont, Neb. Funeral services and burial were Saturday in Columbus, Neb.

She was born April 15, 1915 to Steve and Teckla (Wilcynski) Synowski and lived many years in Columbus.

She is survived by her daughter, son Jim Hoshor of Fremont, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and an infant son.

Memorials may be made to St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. McKown Funeral Home in Columbus is in charge of arrangements.

Ray Yetter

Ray Yetter, 97, of Dix died March 22, 2002 at the Memorial Health Center Extended Care in Sidney, Neb. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thurs., Mar. 28 at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with Pastor Mary Frohs, Potter First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Dix cemetery.

Visitation was to be Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m. and Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until the service.

The son of Raymond Alonzo Lee and Rachel Louise (Bennett) Yetter, he was born Aug. 13, 1904 at Wauneta, Neb. He was the last of 14 children. He worked on the family farm and played harmonica and banjo in a family band. The family lived in Melbeta and Oshkosh.

He married Bessie Baird Jan. 31, 1925 at Julesburg, Colo. They lived in Lisco, Oshkosh and moved to Bushnell in 1946. They settled in the Dix area in 1948. He moved to Potter in 1980 and to Kimball in 1997.

He was a government employee and farmer.

He is survived by two daughters, Agnes Eisele and husband Gerald of Kimball, and Cermel Haney of Boone, Colo., 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Howard, daughter Violet VanHousen, a grandson, a great-granddaughter and 13 brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Geraldine Demuth

Geraldine Ann "Geri" (Schadegg) Demuth, 78, died March 23, 2002, in Lincoln, Nebr. She is formerly of Kimball and the sister of Margaret Wynne of Kimball.

A service was Wednesday at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Seward, Nebr. and burial was at Sts. Peter & Mary/Marietta in rural Bellwood, Nebr.

She was born May 15, 1923, near Garrison, Nebr. to Adolph H. and Claretta (Zegers) Schadegg, the oldest of five children. She moved with her family to Kimball in 1934 where she attended elementary and high school.

She was married to Clement G. Demuth in Kimball Sept. 4, 1941 and they had six children. In 1957 they moved to El Segundo, Calif. They lived in Hemet, Calif. from 1977 to 1990, when they moved to Chelan, Wash. They moved to Seward, Nebr. in 1997.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, a grandson and a brother.

She is survived by her husband, sons, 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two sisters and a brother.

Memorials may be made to donor's choice in care of the family. Wood-Zabka Funeral Home in Seward handled arrangements.

Donna Haack

Donna L. Haack, 72, of Dix died on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at her home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21 at the Federated Churches United Methodist Church 904 Sheridan St. Potter, Neb. The Rev. Mary Frohs and The Rev. Ronald Nuss-Warren will officiate.

Burial will be in the Dix cemetery. Visitation will be at the Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

She was born on July 16, 1929 in Kimball a daughter of Charles and Anna (Peterson) Campbell. She was a life long resident of the area and graduated from high school in Dix in 1946.

She attended Barnes Business College in Denver. She was married to Lloyd Haack on June 20, 1948 in Dix. They started to farm south of Dix in 1949 and Lloyd continued to farm after the couple moved into town in 1963.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dix where she taught Sunday school and Bible School, served on the church board and sang in the choir.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church Women, the Golden Girls Billiards League, and was a volunteer for the Dix Community Improvement group. She enjoyed bowling and golf.

She is survived by her husband Lloyd of Dix, daughters, LeAnn and her husband Gary Bristow of Parker, CO, and Carol and her husband Cecil Smith of Kearney; two sons David and his wife Susan Haack of Scottsbluff and Gary and his wife Pam Haack of Dix; two sisters Evelyn Travis of Sidney and Maurine Lockwood of Kimball; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Her parents, three brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Prairie Haven Hospice or to the Dix Rural cemetery.

O. Dean Van Zant

O. Dean Van Zant, 75, of Lincoln, Neb. and Apache Junction, Ariz. died Wednesday, February 27, 2002 in Ramona, Calif. Cremation has taken place. He is formerly of Bushnell.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Bushnell cemetery. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate.

He was born in Ogden, Utah Sept. 11, 1926 a son of Merle and May Van Zant. He graduated from high school in Cheyenne, Wyo. in 1944. He married Sally Lou Hammond, daughter of Ralph and Salma Hammond of Bushnell, Nov. 26, 1946.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II on the Destroyer U.S.S. Strong. He also served during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1951.

He was a retired Air Traffic Controller and worked in Lincoln and Peoria, Ill. He was a Past Master of the Liberty Masonic Lodge #300, a member of the Sesostris Shrine and was a founder of the Flying Fez.

He was a member of the Flying Conestogas, the American Legion Post #1 and the Elks Lodge #80.

He is survived by his wife Sally, a daughter and son-in-Law Barbara and Jerry Froistad of Ashland, a daughter Peggy Van Zant of Lincoln, and a son and daughter-in-Law, Byron and Shelly Van Zant of Murrieta, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; six sisters, Lois Eversole, Rock Springs Wyo., Jean Bates, Las Vegas, Nev., Verna Schlag Martinez, Calif., Zella Graham, Spokane, Wash., Edla Allbee, Pittsburg, Calif., Faye Downs, Vallejo, Calif., and a brother Thomas Leslie Van Zant of Seattle, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Judy Kay Butcher who died in 1985.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Cantrell Funeral is in charge of local arrangements.

Faye E. Enlow

Faye Emma Enlow, 93, died on Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at the Kimball County Manor. A private burial was held Monday, March 18, at the Kimball cemetery. Friends are invited to attend a

Memorial Service for Mrs. Enlow at 2:00 PM on Monday March 18th at the Kimball County Manor, with Rev. Ron Nuss-Warren officiating.

Memorials may be made to Kimball County Manor.

She was born on June 26, 1908, in Scottsbluff to William and Mira B. (Day) Lemley. After attending public school Faye attended and graduated from Hastings College with a degree in education. She taught public school for a time in the Sunflower Community before her marriage to Sterling Enlow on February 1, 1935, in Scottsbluff. The couple then moved to Arizona where they farmed. They returned to the Lake Alice area in 1946. They then moved to Kimball in 1956 where she taught in the Kimball Schools until her retirement in 1971.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Kimball. She also was active with the Wesleyan group of the United Methodist Church. She was a long time member of the Sr. Citizens Friendship Center. She also belonged to the South 29 Extension Club, and the Mile High Garden Club, the Kimball Historical Society, Kimball Hospital Auxiliary, and the Bells West Collection Group. She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association. She also was involved with the Red Cross of Kimball County. She belonged to various card-playing clubs.

She is survived by daughter Sue Leininger of Kimball; son Norman Lee Enlow and his wife Mary, of Princeton, Minn.; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in February 1981, a sister Orpha Morgan, and three brothers, George, Bill, and Emmit Lemley.

Cantrell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
