Carl E. Davis

Longtime Dix resident Carl E. Davis died Monday, July 23, 2001, at his home in Potter. He had recently moved to that community.

Cremation has taken place. No services are scheduled at this time.

He was born October 23, 1923, in Crookston, Neb. to Earl W. and Elsie E. (Wilmot) Davis. He entered the service in 1943 and served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Irma M. Hansher December 18, 1946, in Portland, Ore. During the 1950's and 1960's, they lived in Oregon and Missouri. They also lived in Bushnell and Kimball before making Dix their permanent residence in 1967. He worked for many years as the maintenance man for the Village of Dix.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Irma in April 1999.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Davis Activity Center in Dix in care of Nanci McCaslin or Linda Rasmussen, Potter, Neb.

Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Nagel Frohm

Edna "Toots" Frohm, 89, of Kimball, died Sunday, July 22, 2001.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 26, 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church of Kimball, with the Rev. Tom Jacobsen officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball cemetery. Visitation was held until 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 25 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball.

She was born July 30, 1911, in Staplehurst, Neb. to Fred and Johanna (Meier) Nagel. She grew up and attended parochial school at Staplehurst. She moved to Kimball with her family in 1930. She married John Fredrick Frohm June 27, 1937, in Kimball.

She and her husband owned the Kimball Tavern. She worked for over 20 years as a waitress for several eateries in Kimball, including the Jones Grill, Kelley's CafÈ, and the Kimball CafÈ and Al Strauch Steak House. She also worked in the kitchen of the Kimball County Manor.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Kimball.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Odis Lewis of

Kimball; granddaughter Lynette Lusche of Kimball; grandson Jason Lewis of Scottsbluff; great granddaughters, Destiny Lusche and Alisa Lusche; great grandson Devin Lusche; and great great-granddaughter, Taylor Shepard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred in August 1957, her six brothers Paul, Jack, Elmer, twins Otto and Bill and Edna's twin brother Elmer "Sonny" Nagel and one sister Mary Nieman.

Memorial gifts may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Kimball.

Bennie Herboldsheimer

Bennie Blaine Herboldsheimer, 78, of Potter, died at his home, Thursday, July 19, 2001.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 24 at the Sidney Evangelical Free Church, with Pastors Richard Fisher and Doug Birkey officiating. Burial will be in Potter cemetery.

He was born on June 9, 1923, south of Potter. He attended the Potter schools, graduating from Potter High School in 1941. On June 9, 1944, he married Charlyn H. Hagemeister in Potter. He attended one and half years at the University of Nebraska.

He spent his entire life farming the family home place.

He developed the Benaire Air Conditioner and spent many years selling it in nine states and Canada. He helped build and manage the Point of Rocks Grain Elevator east of Potter.

He was active with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout leader, District Council member, spent 24 years as a Order of the Arrow Member and received the Silver Beaver Award. He is a Past Master of the Potter Masonic Lodge and most recently the Frank Welch Lodge in Sidney. He was named an Outstanding Young Nebraska Farmer, was active in the Nebraska Wheat Growers and had served as a State Transportation Officer. He received a State Soil Conservation Award, was a member of the Potter Fire Department and a Potter Board Member. He was the Potter cemetery Caretaker for five years, began the fund and was first to begin to build the Potter Youth Center. He built and maintained ice skating rinks in Potter for several years. He built 50 sets of kitchen cupboards and built his own solar home over the course of five winters.

He is survived by his wife Charlyn of Potter; daughters Alicia Eagan and her husband Wayne of Arapaho, Ohio; Patrice Egging and her husband Mike of Pratt, Kan., and Susan Kruse and her husband Darrell of Auburn; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by parents and one son Steven in1999.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Health Center Hospice Program, The Parkinson's Foundation or the church.

Vernon Thomas Larson

Vernon Thomas Larson, 67, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at his home in Tacoma, Wash.

Funeral services were Monday, July 23, at Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls, Minn. Burial was at the Holt cemetery in Holt, Minn.

He was born on June 18, 1934, to Irvin and Donella “Dolly’’ (Taylor) Larson in Holt, Minn. He attended rural school and was raised in the Holt area. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Albuquerque, N.M.

He married Mary Ann Tarpley in 1955. Following his honorable discharge, he worked at the paper mill in International Falls, Minn.

He married Dottie Becher in 1968 and worked for several farms in North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota. He was employed at Armour’s in St. Paul, Minn. until he moved to Kimball. He farmed in Kimball County for 23 years. He moved to Tacoma, Wash. in February of 1995, where he has since resided.

He is survived by his mother, Dolly Larson of Thief River Falls, Minn; his children Thomas Larson of Santa Rosa, Calif., Cheryl Cox of Dayton, Ohio, Robert Larson of Longmont, Colo., Brenda Marquez of Kansas City, Mo., DeAnna Villarreal of Kansas City, Mo., Pamela Brodie of Marquette, Iowa, Dawn Block of Tacoma, Wash., Michael Larson of Gering, Neb., Todd Larson of Tacoma, Wash., Deborah Larson of Tacoma, Wash.; former wife Dottie Larson of Elk River, Minn.; step-daughter, Brenda Blaine of Elk River, MN.; 20 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin; first wife, Mary (Tarpley) Marold; and one daughter, Sandra.

Dennis C. Coffman

Former Kimball resident Dennis C. Coffman, 62 of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., died Monday, July 16, 2001 at United Medical Center in Cheyenne.

Family and Friends are invited to attend an informal service at 10 a.m. Friday, July 20, at the pavilion near the boat ramp at Lake Oliver (Oliver Reservoir). Cremation has taken place. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.

He was born November 4, 1938, in Cheyenne, Wyo., to Roy and Dorothy (Forman) Coffman. He was raised in Kimball and graduated from Kimball High School. After graduation he worked for a time in the Oil Fields and then joined the U.S. Navy. After his naval service, he returned to Kimball and worked for the city. He later moved to Pine Bluffs and began working for the Laramie County Department of Roads. He retired from the county in June 2000.

He is survived by his parents, Roy and Dorothy Coffman of Kimball, a son and daughter-in-law Roy and Kristie Coffman of Scottsbluff, three granddaughters Lori, Maegan, and Abbigail all of Scottsbluff. Also surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Wayne Baldwin of Pine Bluffs, and Beverly and Donald Arnold of Kimball, and Sister Sharon Moore of Pine Bluffs. Also special friend Bertha Scioneaux and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister Lorene Coralee Coffman.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Dennis Coffman Fund c/o Compass Bank in Kimball.

Thomas H. Lutey

Former Kimball resident Tom H. Lutey, 87, of Gering, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, the Northfield Villa.

Funeral services were Monday, July 16, at the Cantrell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Masonic rites were conducted by Sonny Eatmon Lodge No. 294, AF&AM. Burial was in the Kimball cemetery. Presentation of the flag was conducted by Kimball VFW Post 2243.

He was born April 12, 1914, in Central City, S.D. to James and Mary (Campbell) Lutey. He moved to Kimball with his family at the age of six. He graduated from Kimball County High School in 1933. He attended the University of Wyoming and the University of Nebraska. He worked for Standard Oil Company before entering military service in 1940.

He married Frances Hilton in Miami, Fla. on October 3, 1942.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and spent time in the South Pacific. He was discharged as a major in 1946. At that time, he and Frances moved to Kimball. He ran Lutey's Furniture Store for 27 years.

He and his wife moved to Northfield Villa in Gering in 1990.

He was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball and served on the board. He was Past Master of Kimball Masonic Lodge, Past Patron of Eastern Star in Kimball and an honorary member of Jobs Daughters.

He was also a charter member and Past President of Kimball Rotary Club and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife Frances of Gering; son and daughter-in-law James and Pamela Lutey of Johnstown, Colo.; grandsons Bert Lutey of Denver, Colo., and Paul Lutey of San Francisco, Calif.; and great-grandson Anton Lutey of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church of Kimball, Prairie Haven Hospice, or Northfield Villa, Gering.

Mayrene A. Gompert

Mayrene A. Gompert, 92, of Kimball, formerly of Mitchell, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Kimball County Manor.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 9, at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with the Reverend Ed Newbury officiating. A second service was also held Monday at The Federated Church of Mitchell, with the Reverend Carlyle Smith officiating. Burial was at the Mitchell cemetery.

She was born on September 17, 1908, in Montavallo, Mo. to William A. and Myrtle (Schwartz) Moore. After completing her education, she taught school in Wyoming and Nebraska. The last place she taught was Fairview #34, where she met her future husband.

She married Fred Gompert on March 22, 1935, in Mitchell, Neb. They lived in Mitchell until Fred's death in March of 1983. She moved to Kimball in 1984 to be closer to her family.

She was a member of the Federated Church in Mitchell. She was also a member of PEO, Chapter GN and Eastern Star. She received a 50-year member pin from Eastern Star. She was a member of the Dutch Flats Birthday Club from the Mitchell area. In 1975, she received a national plaque for her work on the Bicentennial celebration. She was also an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Fredene and Al Pietsch of Kimball; one sister, Irene Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren Jon Pietsch and his wife Lara of Cheyenne, Wyo., Jeanine Pope and her husband Jeff of Ft. Morgan, Colo., and Jennifer Roley and her husband Marc of Ft. Collins, Colo.; five great-grandchildren, Michael Roley, Alicyn Roley, Jonathon Pope, Jayne Pope and Rachel Pietsch; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred, two brothers one sister.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Kimball County Manor, Friends of the Library or to the Federated Church of Mitchell.

Dante D. Walker

Former Potter resident Dante D. Walker, 27, of Bridgeport died at his home Friday, July 6, 2001.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 12 (today), 10 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Sidney, with Dr. Charles Bonds officiating.

He was born to Dean and Ruth Walker on October 11, 1973, in Sidney. He attended and graduated from Potter-Dix schools. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministries from Grace College of the Bible, now Grace University. He pastored in Munich, N.D. He moved to Fargo, N.D. and worked as an assistant clerk for Yellow Freight.

Last September he went to Jerusalem University College in Jerusalem, Israel. He returned home in December and worked as an assistant clerk for Yellow Freight in Bridgeport.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather Ruth and Bill Morgan of Potter; his father and step-mother Dean and Margaret Walker of Sunol; sister Kandy of Bolivar, Ohio; brother Dusty of Arcanum, Ohio; two stepsisters Trina Sagissor of Grant and Sonia Corne of Sidney; and one stepbrother William Morgan of Chappell.

Memorials can be given to the family’s choice.

Robert Dale Wood

Robert Dale Wood died Thursday, July 5, at United Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyo.

A graveside service will be held Sat., July 14, 10 a.m. at the Pine Bluffs cemetery.

He was born September 25, 1927, to Earnest and Marjorie Wood at Kimball. He moved to Wyoming in 1937 with his family to Carpenter, Wyo. and then to Egbert. He went to the Army and served in Korea for two years and in the Army Reserves for four years. He lived Pine Bluffs for approximately 50 years.

He was a farm laborer and worked for his sister and husband, Esther and Wesley Phillips, for many years.

He is survived by his brother Charles Wood of Pine Bluffs; sisters Esther Phillips of Bushnell and Shirley Kinnison of Kimball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Viola; and two brothers, Donald and Lester.

Memorials can be made to the United Medical Center hospital.
