Jacqueline Winscott

Jacqueline "Jackie" Winscott, 82, of Kimball, died Saturday, July 7, 2001.

Funeral services were Wednesday, July 11, 10:30 a.m., at the Cantrell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Schoonover and Pastor Harvey Macklin officiating. Burial was at the Dix cemetery.

She was born on December 23, 1918, in Kansas City, Mo. to Cleveland Wm. and Alice Clara (Neiderhelm) Swick. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1937.

She married J. D. Winscott June 1, 1939, in Nevada, Mo. They lived in Nevada until August 1942 when they moved to Denver. They moved to Worland, Wyo. in April 1946.

They lived in various places in Wyoming and Montana while J. D. ministered, beginning in Meeteetse, Wyo. Jackie assisted by playing piano during church services. She and her husband pastored in Pine Bluffs, Wyo., before moving to Kimball in 1975. They served at the Assembly of God Church for two years before retirement.

She also worked in various jobs from 1959 to 1970 in Powell, Wyo., including serving as a secretary-bookkeeper for Castberg Insurance, real estate agent, and working for the Willwood Irrigation District

She continued working for over 13 years for the Foster Grandparent Program at the Kimball Day Care Center.

She was a member of the Kimball Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by her husband, J. D. Winscott of Kimball; son James D. Winscott of Tacoma, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Richard Schoonover of Springfield, Mo., Patricia and Ken Vandiver of Kimball and Donna and Dave Groskopf Camano Island, Wash.; brothers Robert Swick of Midland, Tx., and Woodrow Swick of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters-in-law Bonnie Swick of Lawton, Okla., and Lettie Swick of Council Bluffs, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jonathan Winscott, Roberta Smith, Tim Schoonover, Kimberly Schoonover, Cory Vandiver and Carla Young; and one great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one son Marvin "Butch" Winscott, and one grandson.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Kimball Assembly of God Church or the Highlands Adoption Center in Kansas City, Mo.

Bonnie (Rosser) Bates

Kimball resident Bonnie Gayle Bates, 53, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at her home.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 7, 10 a.m. at the Cantrell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Hunzeker officiating. Burial was at the Kimball cemetery.

She was born on September 1, 1947, to Robert D. and Beauleh M. (Weaver) Rosser in Oshkosh, Neb. She was raised on the family farm at Oshkosh in an area known as, "The South Table.” She attended rural school in District 6 and attended Garden County High School.

She married Kenneth Vincent on January 18, 1964.

On May 14, 1988, she married Donald R. Bates in Kimball. They lived west of Kimball.

She was employed by the Kimball County Sheriff's Department for several years. She also worked for an oil field business and a construction company as secretary prior to working in April 1991 for GRI. She worked at GRI until July of 1999 when a reoccurrence of her cancer forced her to give up her position. From 1990 until 2000, she helped her husband with their rental properties, keeping books and helping with repairs.

While her sons were young, she was involved with their activities including Tiger Cubs, Boy Scouts, Demolition Derby and sports.

She was a member of the Kimball Eagles Auxiliary #3889 for 30 years, become Charter President in 1979. She was also involved in the Bridgeport Eagles Auxiliary #2813 and held several offices.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Bates; sons Gary Vincent, Bob Vincent and his wife Fawney of Kimball, and Michael Vincent of Las Vegas, Nev.; her mother Beaulah Rosser of Oshkosh, Neb.; sister Carol Webb and her husband Bill of Greybull, Wyo.; and brothers, Chester Rosser and his wife Sorcorro of Gering, Neb., and Byron Rosser of Alliance, Neb.; two stepchildren; Donnie Cole and Donna Fuhr and her husband Keith all of Kearney, Mo. and two step grandchildren, Amy and Nathaniel.

She was preceded in death by her father Robert D. Rosser and a foster son Robert (Rob) Bechtel.

Memorial gifts may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice.

Willard (Bill) A. Prince

Willard (Bill) A. Prince, 72, died Sat., June 30, 2001, at Beverly Nursing Home in Scottsbluff. Inurnment will be held in Grand Island at a later date.

He was born Sept. 13, 1928, in Augusta, Maine. He spent his youth in Grand Island and attended school in Grand Island and Delafield, Wis.

He is survived by his brother, James Prince, and his wife, Arlene, of Kimball; nephew Jim Prince of Littleton, Colo.; and niece Nancy and her husband, Kelly Garrett, of Kimball.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Elizabeth Rumsey.

Memorials may be given to the Shriners Hospital in care of Jim Prince, #6 Crestwood Drive, Kimball, NE 69145.

Jolliffe Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Mae Moehr

Betty Mae Moehr, 72, of Kimball, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at her home.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 5, 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Kimball, with the Rev. Dwayne Hunzeker and Rev. Ed Hunzeker officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball cemetery.

She was born on May 2, 1929, in Scottsbluff, Neb. to David and Mary (Mohr) Schilling. She attended schools in Nebraska and Wyoming and graduated from high school in Yoder, Wyo.

She married Carl Moehr on April 30, 1950, in Torrington, Wyo. at the Congregational Church. During their 51 years of marriage, they lived in Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado and Louisiana, always coming back to Kimball.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Kimball.

She is survived by her husband, Carl of Kimball; sons and daughters-in-law Doug and Lana Moehr of Forgan, Okla., Mike and Mary Moehr of Kimball, Steve and Jane Moehr of Casper, Wyo. and Alan and Kristy Moehr of Ft. Morgan, Colo.; daughters and son-in-law, Pat and Bobby Dunkin of Kimball and Deb Moehr and special friend Gary of Kimball; two brothers Ken Schilling and Wayne Schilling of Torrington, Wyo.; sister-in-law, Helen Schilling; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and Kay Hutchinson of Borger, Tex.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents Mr. & Mrs. Dave Schilling, one grandchild and one brother Vernon Schilling.

Memorial gifts may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice or to the Presbyterian Church of Kimball.

Edith A. Clark

Edith A. Clark, 87, of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Regional West Medical Center.

Funeral services were June 28, at the Joliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Interment was at Fairview cemetery in Scottsbluff. A lodge service was conducted by the Scottsbluff Rebekah Lodge #290.

She was born August 16, 1913, in a log cabin in Banner County to Thomas and Eula (Cronn) Cox. When she was 8 years old, she moved with her family to Oregon. She married Ralph L. Clark September 27, 1937, in Kimball. They farmed in the Lake Alice community northeast of Scottsbluff.

She is survived by two daughters; one sister; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and nine sisters.

A memorial has been established to the Scottsbluff Rebekah Lodge #290.

JR Mattson

JR Mattson, 22, of Colby, Kan., died June 19, 2001, at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo. He formerly lived in Pine Bluffs, Wyo. and is the grandson of Marilyn Jessen of Pine Bluffs, Wyo.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Colby, Kan. Burial was at Beulah cemetery in Colby.

He was born May 11, 1979, in Kimball. At the age of seven, he moved with his family from Pine Bluffs to Colby, Kan., where he attended 12 years of school and Colby Community College. He worked in the family seed-cleaning business and farming operation, the last two years managing the Wyoming business during the summer.

He is survived by his parents Herb and Brenda; his mother Karen; four brothers, one sister; his grandparents; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by two grandfathers and one grandmother.

Richard Sowerwine Sr.

Richard L. Sowerwine Sr., 87, of Gering, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Northfield Villa Medical Center in Gering. He is the grandfather of Rhonda Stander and Robin Rutledge, both of Kimball.

A memorial service was Saturday, June 30, at the Northfield Villa Chapel in Gering. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff.

Memorials have been established to the Central Church of Christ or to the Gering Volunteer Fire Department.

Gering Memorial chapel was in Charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife Mary of Gering; son and daughter-in-law Richard L. Sowerwine Jr. and Loretta of Gering; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister and one nephew of Tulsa, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Alice Ann Ege

Former Kimball resident Alice Ann Ege, 92, of Gering, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the Heritage Health Care Center in Gering.

Graveside services were Saturday, June 23, at Kimball cemetery, with the Rev. Francis Curran officiating. Recitation of the rosary was held Friday, June 22, at the Cantrell Funeral Home.

She was born on February 20, 1909, in Barada, Neb. to Henry and Emma (Schlader) Kuhlman. She married Leonard Ege in 1927, in Fall City, Neb., where they lived for a number of years. She lived in Nebraska most of her life and spent several years living in Kimball before moving to Gering. She has lived at the Heritage Health Care Center in Gering since 1978.

She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Fall City.

She is survived by one granddaughter, Mary Webb and her husband John of Kimball; three grandsons, Jerry Trujillo and his wife Sandra of Tacoma, Wash., Larry Trijillo and his wife Sue of Mahomet, Illinois and Michael Trujillo and his wife Roxie of Fontana, Calif.; 11 great grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard in 1968, one daughter Janet Trujillo-Reitz and one brother Marvin Kuhlman.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Alice Ege Memorial Fund.

Edwin ‘Earl’ Baack

Longtime Sidney resident Edwin “Earl” Baack, 85, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. He lived on a farm in Kimball County with his family in the 1930’s.

Funeral services were Monday, June 18, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial was at Greenwood cemetery, with military graveside services.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Sidney; one son; one daughter; three step-children; two sisters; 11 grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Myrtle E. Smith

Former Potter resident Myrtle E. Smith, 90, of Sidney, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Memorial Health Center in Sidney.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 19, at the Potter United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mary Frohs officiating. Burial was at the Potter cemetery.

She was born to Peter and Florence (Herboldsheimer) Nelson July 29, 1910, north of Potter. She attended school at District #13 and graduated from Potter High School in 1927.

She married William (Billie) Smith September 26, 1928. The couple began farming in 1929 and bought their own farm north of Potter in 1942, where they lived for the next 34 years. In March 1976, they moved to Sidney due to her husband’s failing health.

She was a member of the Potter Methodist Church, the Methodist Women’s Society, Royal Neighbors and was a past matron of the Potter and Sidney chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her sons Douglass and wife Ardis of Dalton and Loran of Lake Wales, Fla.; one daughter Barbee Harmon of Sidney; one brother Roy Nelson of Sidney; two daughters in law; 24 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; two sons Wallace and Lester; one daughter Karyn; one daughter-in-law; one grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother.

Memorials may be made to the Potter Methodist church or the Potter Fire Department.
