Bernard “Bud” Farmer

Former Kimball County resident Bernard K. “Bud” Farmer died March 26, 2001 at the Veterans’ Hospital in Sheridan, Wyo. He is the son of Florence Farmer of Kimball and brother of Carroll Farmer of Kimball.

Graveside services were Thursday, March 29 at Oregon Trail Veterans’. cemetery, with military rites performed.

He was born in Kimball County on January 20, 1922, to Clyde and Florence Farmer. He graduated from Kimball County High School in 1940 and attended the University of Wyoming.

He married Virginia Sears at Columbia, Mo. on June 19, 1943.

He enlisted in the Army Air Force October 19, 1942 and was an Aviation Cadet, graduating in 1944 at Foster Field, Victoria, Texas. He went overseas in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the 8th Air Force and received many honors for his service.

After the war, he was a wheat farmer in Kimball for a short while. In 1946, he moved Casper and went to work for Sinclair Oil and later for Amoco Refinery. He retired in 1982.

He is survived by his wife Virginia, sons Keith and Jim Farmer of Casper, Richard Farmer of Flora Vista, N.M. and one daughter Suzanne Besich of Aurora, Colo.; and his mother Florence Farmer and brother Carroll Farmer of Kimball, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1977 and his brother in 1992.

Phyllis Sanders

Potter resident Phyllis Sanders, 83, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 19, 11 a.m. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney, with Pastor Stirling Berry of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Sanders cemetery West of Dalton, Neb.

She was born March 2, 1918, to Harry Cumming and Oma Louise (Demaray) Stanley, at Alexandria, Neb. She spent her early years there before moving with her family to a farm west of Dalton in 1932. She attended Sidney High School, graduating in 1935. While in high school, she took Normal Training and after graduating attended Chadron State Teachers College for one year. She then taught in various schools from 1937 until 1944.

She married Edward Clinton Sanders June 28, 1944, at Scottsbluff. They made their home on a farm north of Potter. She returned to teaching in 1962. She taught one year at the Bunker Hill School before teaching at the Kimball elementary school for 19 years.

She was active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include her husband Edward Sanders of Potter; sons Jim Sanders of Potter and Tom and his wife Jan Sanders of Osawatomie, Kan; daughters Renae and her husband Douglas Hay of Redlands, Calif. and Roma Sanders of Fairfield Calif.; brothers Lowell and his wife Amelia Stanley of Battleground, Wash., and Dean and his wife Luella Stanley of Vancouver, Wash.; and three grandchildren Ian Hay, Derek Edwards and Devin Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Rhonda Edwards; and brother Howard Stanley.

Buelah Fleming

Buelah Karoline Fleming, 90, of Kimball, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the Kimball County Manor.

Burial will be Friday, March 23, 1:30 p.m. at the Kimball cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Kimball County Manor Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 22, at the Cantrell Funeral Home.

She was born on February 8, 1911, in Cairo, Neb. to Alfred and Anna (Anderson) Jensen. She grew up and graduated from high school at Rockville, Neb.

She married Loyel Melvin "Bus" Fleming October 10, 1931, in Grand Island. She and her husband had lived in St. Paul, Sidney, Broken Bow and Lexington before coming to Kimball in 1949.

She had worked at the Vogue Shoppe in Kimball for 25 years.

She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was a member of the Rebekah's at Lexington, Neb.

She is survived by her son Jack Fleming and his wife Carolyn of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter-in-law Florence Fleming of Henderson, Nev.; brother Otis Jensen of Omaha; grandchildren, Patrick Fleming, Scott Fleming, Michael Fleming and Julie Fleming; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in November 1991, one son Gary in 1992 and granddaughter Christine Marie.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Kimball County Manor.

Alma Macy

Alma A. Macy, 87, of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the United Medical Center-West in Cheyenne, Wyo.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 22, 2 p.m. at Grace English Lutheran Church in Pine Bluffs, with Pastor Mark J. Maas officiating. Burial will be at the Pine Bluffs cemetery.

She was born on July 27, 1913, in Elk Creek, Neb., to John and Amanda (Bartels) Lange.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Pine Bluffs, Grace Ladies Aid, VFW Auxiliary and the Pasttime Club.

She is survived by her husband Wayne of Pine Bluffs; son Kenneth of Pine Bluffs; brother Norman Lange of Hebron, Neb.; sisters Viora Bauman of Carleton, Neb., and Norine Philippi of Bruning, Neb; three granchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and one sister.

Irvin Lee Thomason

Oklahoma resident Irvin Lee Thomason, 27, died March 15, 2001, in an oil field accident. He is the step-grandson of James Westby and nephew of Lora and Orville Tuzicka, Jr. and Jimmy Westby, all of Kimball.

Funeral services were Sunday, March 18 at Henninger-Allen Chapel. Burial was in the Enid cemetery.

He was born on October 27, 1973, in Kimball to Albert and Joni (Sorrels) Thomason. He moved with his parents to Oklahoma in 1974. He was a derrick hand for P.W. Drilling Company.

He is survived by his wife Janet; six daughters; one son; six step-children; parents Albert and Liz Thomason of Enid and Joni Thomason of Stratford, Okla.; one brother and three step-brothers; one step-sister; maternal grandmother; step-grandmother and step-grandfather; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jesus SaenzPardo

Jesus SaenzPardo, 39, of Harrisburg, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in Laramie County, Wyo. as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

A memorial service will be Saturday, March 17, 2 p.m., at the Albin Community Center. Burial will be in his hometown in Mexico.

He was born on October 7, 1961, in Durango, Mexico, to Jesus and Martina (Rendon) SaenzPardo. He attended school in Mexico. He married Penny Seymour on November 7, 1981 in Hot Springs, Wyo. They have lived in Harrisburg since their marriage. He farmed in Banner County.

He is survived by his parents Jesus and Martina SaenzPardo of Mexico; his wife Penny; son Jesus Adam SaenzPardo and daughters Jessica SaenzPardo and Meleza Rae SaenzPardo, all of Harrisburg; brother Lionel SaenzPardo of Mexico; and sisters Rosalva Vasquez of Torrington, Wyo., and Leticia Munoz of Mexico.

Norman Wade Johnson

Norman Wade Johnson, 71, of Banner County, died Monday, March 12, 2001.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 16, 11 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Potter, with the Rev. Mary A. Frohs officiating. Burial will be in Potter cemetery. Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 15 at the Cantrell Funeral Home.

He was born on January 28, 1930 in Kimball, Nebraska to Ollic and Mary (Patrick) Johnson and grew up on the family farm eight miles north of Dix. He attended school in District 12, north of Dix, and graduated in 1947 from Kimball County High School.

On August 5, 1951, he married Betty Jean Oeltjen at First Lutheran Church in Potter. In 1951-1952, he spent a brief period of time in the Marine Corps. In 1952, he and his wife moved to southeastern Banner County. In the fall of 1957, they moved to the Kirk Community and have resided there since. The couple was honored as the Outstanding Farmer Rancher of Kimball-Banner County in 1986.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Potter and served on the Church Council. He also served on the Banner County Board of Education. He was active in the Dix Legion, serving as Post Commander in 1993 and in the Nebraska Stock Growers and the Wheat Growers Association. He served on the Bethel cemetery Board and was currently serving on the Kirk cemetery Board and as a director of the Banner County Bank.

He is survived by his wife Betty; son Gary Johnson of Banner County; daughters, Janet Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Debra Garden and her husband Dick of Lincoln and Wanda Bartling and her husband Richard of Sidney; six grandchildren, Brent, Ryan and Kyle Johnson, Alex Garden and Karisa and Shane Bartling.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard, who died in infancy.

Memorial gifts may be made to the First Lutheran Church of Potter, the Banner County Historical Society or to the Parkinson's Association of the Rockies.

Millard Jacob Rohrer

Millard Jacob Rohrer, 87, of Kimball, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Kimball County Manor.

Funeral services were Monday, March 12, at the Cantrell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was in Pine Bluffs cemetery.

He was born December 7, 1913, to Earl and Maude (Sanburn) Rohrer in Friend, Neb. On October 1, 1937, he married Margaret Booker in Lincoln.

They farmed most of their life in west central Minnesota. Upon retirement from farming in 1970, the couple moved to Pine Bluffs. In September 1989, Millard moved to the Kimball County Manor.

He is survived by his daughter, Lynda Kay Sanders and her husband, Norman of Pine Bluffs; sons, Roger Millard Rohrer and his wife, Dianne of South St. Paul, Minn., and Dale Earl Rohrer and his wife, Gwen of Kearney, Neb.; sister Ardis Laux of Kimball; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret in April 1989; his parents, brother Carlton Rohrer; sister Bernice Barney and one grandson.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Kimball County Manor.

Dale G. Janicek

Former Kimball resident Dale G. Janicek, 72, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

A funeral mass was held Monday, March 5, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering, with Father Gerald Harr and Father Marty Egging officiating. Cremation was held and entombment of the urn was at Sunset Memorial Park mausoleum. A vigil service was held Sunday at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff.

He was born May 19, 1928 at Kimball to Albert and Helen (Kirchner) Janicek, where he grew up and graduated from Kimball High School in 1946. He began farming in the Kimball area and married Janice Jensen on February 14, 1949. In 1965, he moved to Scottsbluff where he owned and operated Sew & Sew Fabric until retiring in 1988. He married Irene Gillen on January 7, 1995, at Scottsbluff. At the time of his death, he still had farming interests in Kimball and Dundy counties.

He is survived by his wife Irene of Scottsbluff; sons and daughters-in-law Monte and Lee Janicek of Meridan, Idaho, Kevin and Denise Janicek of Wauneta, Neb., Brad and LouAnn Janicek of Meridan and Vance and Sandra Janicek of Meridan; daughters and son-in-law Tonia and Woody Burge of Irvine, Calif. and Denise Janicek of Boise, Idaho; stepsons and stepdaughter-in-law Jeff Gillen of Lincoln and Jon and Patti Gillen of Scottsbluff; sisters and brother-in-law Alberta Brown of Scottsbluff, Caralee and Lawrence Egging of Gurley and Pat Glenn of Oberlin, Kan.; brothers and sister-in-law David Janicek of Reno, Nev., Dan Janicek of Denver, Derald Janicek of Little Rock, Ark. and Duane and Fran Janicek of Kimball; sister-in-law Betty Janicek of Pine Bluffs; thirteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Memorials can be made to the Christ the King Catholic Church building fund.

Gerald “Gump” Gumbir

Gerald "Gump" F. Gumbir, 63, of Potter, died Saturay, February 24, 2001, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday (today), March 1, at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball, with Rev. Ed Hunzeker of Prairie Haven Hospice officiating. Visitation at the funeral home until 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 28, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Cremation will take place after the service.

He was born on June 2, 1937, in Great Bend, Kansas to William F. and Edith May (Rose) Gumbir. He grew up in Great Bend. His family also lived in California for several years and he graduated high school there.

He married Janice "Jan" F. Caine on August 22, 1958 in Wichita, Kan. He and Jan moved to Kimball and Jerry began working for Curley's Machine Works. He has worked for Curley's for the past 45 years, and served as vice-president for the company. He has lived in Potter for the past 25 years.

He was a member of St. Hilda's Episcopal Church in Kimball and the Potter Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife Jan of Potter; his mother Edith May Bicknell of Reading, Calif.; son Kevin L. Gumbir of Denver; daughters Jodie Nienhuser and her husband Greg of Peetz, Colo., and Jennifer Lee Ann Ingwersen and her husband Don of Brainard, Neb.; brothers Jim Eastman and Bob Eastman both of Calif.; sister Kathy Schlosser of Calif.; step-mother, Beatrice Gumbir of Bakersfield, Calif.; one uncle; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Jerry Gumbir Memorial Fund.
