Myrtle J. Jones
Myrtle Jane (Bouma) Jones, 83, of Kimball, died Sunday afternoon, February 25, 2001, at Kimball County Hospital.
A private family funeral service was held on Monday, February 26 at Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball, with Pastor Charles Bonds officiating. Interment was at the Christus Gardens cemetery in Kimball.
She was born in Custer County, Neb., on February 13, 1918, to Namen Johannas Bouma and Mary Magdelena Franzen. She worked on the family farm in central Nebraska during her childhood. She also hired out to other families, often to do wall papering. In her late teens, she came to Kimball County to work for Bert and Charity Jones on their homestead north of Bushnell.
On September 14, 1939, she married
George Woodford "Woody" Jones. They moved to a farm one mile west of the family homestead where she assisted her husband with the farm operation. They remained on the farm until October 1990 when they moved to Kimball.
She was an amateur radio "ham" operator and participated in several amateur networks. She was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League and the Young Ladies' Relay League. She also served as a Volunteer Examiner and an Official Observer for many years.
She is survived by her daughters Jane Hill and her husband Lee, of Woodland Park, Colo., and Elizabeth "Beth" Jones of Kimball; granddaughter Kathy Hill of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brothers Raymond Bouma of Arcadia, Neb., and Dean Bouma of Weatherford, Okla.; sisters Betsy Nehls of Broken Bow, Neb.; Ruth Edmunds of Bushnell; and Dorothy Ames of Aurora, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992; her parents; one brother, Edwin Bouma; three sisters, Rachel Olson, Frances Olson and Hazel Dietz.

Dick Siebenaler
Former Kimball resident Dick Siebenaler, 68, of Estes Park, Colo., died February 17, 2001, in Arizona. He was the brother of Dorothy Thummel and Gertrude Siebenaler of Kimball.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 3, 11 a.m., at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Estes Park. Interment will be at Estes Valley Memorial Gardens.
He was born to Lucien and Mary (Rall) Siebenaler October 25, 1932. He married
Marilyn Lieske on February 4, 1961, in Kimball. He moved to Estes Park April 1, 1964. He operated Dick’s Rock Museum from its opening in 1964 until his death.
He was a lector and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church and also sang in the church choir.
Survivors include his daughters Barbara Morley and her husband Dusty of Maydena, Tasmania, Ruth Siebenaler of Madonna House, Canada and Toni Siebenaler of Jackson, Wyo.; brother Wayne Siebanaler and his wife Sharon of Tuscon, Ariz.; sisters Dorothy Thummel, Gertrude Siebenaler and Dee Barclay of Napa, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter, Maria.

Wilson Emanuel Blattert
Wilson Emanuel Blattert, 86, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at the Heritage Health Care Center at Gering. He was the father of Kathleen Hunzeker of Kimball.
Funeral services were Friday, February 23 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff. Interment was at Fairview cemetery.
He was born November 11, 1914 to Gottlob and Minnie (Brunswick) Blattert at Stanton, Neb. He served in the U.S. Army from September 1942 until October 1945 and was decorated with the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart. He married
Lucille Nagel on May 20, 1915 in Bridgeport. He was a coin-operated machine mechanic until retiring in 1979.
He is survived by his wife Lucille; daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Dwayne Hunzeker of Kimball; grandchildren Will and Katie Hunzeker of Kimball; and two sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Alvin "Al" E. Hisey
Alvin "Al" E. Hisey, 71, died Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at his home. Funeral services were Friday, February 23, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was in Kimball cemetery.
He was born on December 14, 1929, in Lenora, Kan. to Everett and Edna (Thompson) Hisey. He attended school and graduated high school at Norton, Kan. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1950 as a flight engineer with the 10th Rescue Squadron stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska.
He married
Beverly J. Butler on November 24, 1950, in Norton, Kan.
He owned a Western Auto Store in Oberlin, Kan. for 10 years and also did custom combining before moving to Kimball in 1959 to farm and ranch.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He had served on the School Board for District 4 and had served on the Fair Board and as a 4-H leader.
He is survived by his wife Beverly of Kimball; sons Richard Hisey and his wife Karen of Kimball, Greg Hisey and his wife Melody of Maple Creek, Canada and Michael Hisey of Kimball; daughter Trish Lukassen and her husband Dave of Kimball; brother Galen Hisey and his wife Barb of Cummings, Kan.; sister Evelyn Reiman and her husband Wilbur of Benkelman, Neb.; and six grandchildren, Shelli Hisey, Sean Hisey, Calli Hisey, Ardell Hisey, Pake Newell and Taren Lockwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Lyle Hisey.

George A. Coulter, Jr.
Former Potter and Kimball resident George A. Coulter, Jr., 72, of Gering, Neb., died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at his home.
A memorial service was Sunday, February 4, at the Joliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. A funeral service was Monday, February 5, at the Potter United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ed Hunzeker officiating. Burial was at the Potter cemetery.
He was born September 4, 1928, on a farm outside of Potter to George A., Sr., and Margaret (Jensen) Coulter. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Potter, graduating in 1946. Following school, he farmed with his father until he attended barbering school in Denver where he graduated in 1955.
He married
Jeanette Madden on December 19, 1948, in Sidney, Neb.
He owned George’s Barber Shop in Kimball from 1964 to 1977. He sold the business in Kimball and moved to Scottsbluff where he opened George’s Barber Shop, operating the business until retiring in February 2000.
He was a member of the Potter School Board, the Potter and Kimball Fire Department’s and the Kimball Rotary Club. He was also active in the Elks Lodge, the Moose Lodge and the Eagles. He was an elder at St. John’s Lutheran Church and a member at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Scottsbluff.
He is survived by daughters Fonda Deans and Soni Reid, both of Eagle River, Alaska, and Shelly Nitz of Goehner, Neb.; son Troy Coulter of Longmont, Colo.; sisters Thelma Rose of Potter and Dolores Cogan of Elkhart, Ind.; sister-in-law Shirley Coulter of Potter; special friend Edna Johnson of Gering; first wife Jeanette Hensley of Sidney; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Jim; and brother-in-law Kenneth Rose.

Vernon L. Uglow
Vernon L. Uglow, 67, of Kimball, died Saturday, February 3, 2001, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. Inurnment will be at mount Sarah cemetery in Rowlesburg, W.V., at a later date.

Jens Anton Nielsen, Jr.
Jens Anton Nielsen, Jr., 60, of Kimball, died Thursday, February 1, 2001, at his home.
Funeral services were Monday, February 5, at the Cantrell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was at Kimball cemetery.
He was born on February 4, 1940, on a farm near Oberlin, Kan. to Jens and Rosa (Cress) Nielsen. He attended school and graduated in Oberlin. He attended Wichita Business College in Wichita, Kan.
He married
June Smith on June 19, 1965, in Windsor, Colo.
He started his career as an accountant with Decatur Co-Op Association in Oberlin and worked for cooperatives for 10 years. He taught business courses for one year at Western Nebraska Technical College in Sidney. He worked for Rite-A-Way Industries, Inc. for 25 years. He was employed as a compliance guard by Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. of Kimball in 1998.
Music had been a very important part of his life. He earned a State gold medal his senior year of high school in low voice solo competition. Other appearances included two performances with Mile High Chapter of Barbershop Singers in America at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, numerous performances with Broomfield Swing Choir, including the Barry Goldwater Republican Rally in Denver and JFK Whispering Drums. He performed with local vocal groups. In November 1999, he performed with The West Nebraska Masterworks Chorale presenting the “Requiem” by Mozart. He was an active singer in the United Methodist Choir and played in the church bell choir since 1988. He also played trombone with the high school pep band at home basketball games.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer since 1991. He was active with the James L. Eatmon Masonic Lodge 294 and had served as Worshipful Master in 1983. He was also a member of the Truth Chapter 262 Order of Eastern Star and served two years as Worthy Patron. He delivered local Masonic funeral orations since 1983.
He is survived by his wife June of Kimball; sons Erik Jens Nielsen and his wife Ruth of Hastings, Neb., and Kurt Edward Nielsen of Crete, Neb.; daughter, Sharon Marie Jones and her husband Richard of Wiggins, Colo.; sister Veda Muller of Rangely, Colo.; grandchild, Margaret Elizabeth Nielsen of Hastings; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by cousins in Denmark.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Karen Fisher of Oberlin and Naomi Hale of Wichita.

Dennis C. Gasseling
Dennis C. Gasseling, 53, of Potter, died Saturday, February 3, 2001, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 8, 2 p.m., at St. Patrick’s catholic Church in Sidney, with Fr. Ted Nekoliczak officiating. Burial will be in the Potter cemetery. A Christian Wake was scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
He was born February 28, 1947, in Alliance to Joseph and Mary (Curran) Gasseling. He was raised on a farm in Hemingford and attended high school there. He worked in the Hemingford area until he was 17 years old, then moved to Carlsbad, N.M. where he worked in the Potash industry. He entered the United States Army in March of 1966, serving in Germany and Vietnam, and was discharged in 1970. He moved to Sidney in 1970, where he worked for Dinklage Feed yard for the last 15 years.
He is survived by his fiancÈe Cindy Golden of Potter; his mother Mary of Carlsbad, N.M.; daughter Tonya Satonus of Sidney; sons Terry Nation, Dale Robertson and Fred Nation, all of Sidney; three brothers; two sisters; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.

Audrey Mae Nielsen
Audrey Mae Nielsen, 80, or rural Bridgeport, died Friday, January 26, 2001, at her home. She formerly taught in Banner County.
Funeral services were Tuesday, January 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport. Interment was at the Redington cemetery.
She was born April 28, 1920, at Cadams, Neb. to Curtis and Grace (Underwood) Smith. She taught elementary school in Banner, Morrill and Cheyenne Counties. She married
Norval L. Nielsen on June 2, 1946, at McMinnville, Ore. They lived on a ranch near Redington after their marriage.
She is survived by her husband; three sons; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Robert E. "Bob" Young
Robert E. "Bob" Young, 87, of Kimball, died Friday, January 26, 2001, at the Kimball County Hospital.
Funeral services were Wednesday, January 31, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was in Kimball cemetery.
He was born May 18, 1913, in Kimball to William T. and Olive M. (Vogler) Young. He attended school in Kimball, except for a partial school year in Pasadena, Calif., when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Kimball County High School in 1930 and from the University of Nebraska in 1935 with a degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the University of Nebraska Boxing Team.
He married
Dorcas L. Carlson on September 27, 1941. They lived in Banner County for a short time until moving to Kimball. He farmed in Banner County and Laramie County, Wyo., raising wheat, potatoes, barley, oats, rye, safflower and sunflowers. He and his brother, Bud owned a potato cellar and grain elevator at Albin, Wyo. for several years.
He was president of the Kimball County Grade School Board when the Mary Lynch School was built, and he was President of the Kimball County High School Board when construction of the new Kimball County High School was approved.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Kimball Masonic Lodge 294, as well as the Masonic Scottish Rite and Shriner's Lodges. He served on the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Certified Potato Growers Association. He was also a member of the College of Agriculture and Home Economics Advisory Council.
He is survived by his wife, Dorcas of Kimball; son, Tom of Kimball, son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Virginia of Gering, and son and daughter-in-law, Don and Clarissa of Yuma, Arizona; his brother, Lawrence of Kimball; and grandsons, Shawn and Christopher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Memorial gifts have been established to the Trinity United Methodist Church and to the Kimball County Hospital Foundation.
