Alfred Harold Barrett

Alfred Harold Barrett, 85, of Melbeta, died Friday, November 3, 2000, at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services were to be Wednesday, November 8, at the WestWay Christian Church in Scottsbluff, with Rev. Willie Coop officiating. Interment was to be at West Lawn cemetery in Gering. Memorials have been established to the Banner County Historical Society or to the donor’s choice.

He was born July 7, 1915, in Harrisburg to William Leslie and Minnie Pearl (Grubbs) Barrett where he grew up and received his education. He married Mabel J. Belgum on June 17, 1945, in Kimball. He farmed in Banner County most of his life.

He attended the Oregon Trail Church at McGrew.

He is survived by wife, Mabel J. Barrett of Melbeta; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Larry Heins of Denver, Colo., and Carole and Bob Taylor of Mesa, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Jenni Barrett of Gering; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Helen King of Riverton, Wyo., Iva David of Melbeta, Ona Swanson of Scottsbluff, Neva Behrens of Morrill, and Delores Sauer of Scottsbluff; and numberous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Harlan.

Mollie W. Shaw

Mollie W. Shaw, 98, of Kimball, died Tuesday, October 24, 2000.

Funeral services were Saturday, October 28, at the Cantrell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was in Kimball cemetery.

She was born January 11, 1902, south of Stoner, Mo. to John and Martha (Messersmith) Moss. In 1905, the family moved by covered wagon from Missouri to Kansas and returned to Missouri in 1907. She attended public school in Missouri.

On May 7, 1919, she married Avery Taylor in Missouri. He died in 1936. Shortly before his death, they purchased land south of Kimball and she moved herself and her children to this area. She worked at the McIntire Hospital as a night nurse and had also worked as a cook for John Strasheim's CafC.

In 1939, she was married to John Shaw. They purchased a farm north of Bushnell. He died in 1983.

She had spent a number of winters in Corpus Christi, Texas, and purchased a home there in 1966, where she lived for 19 years. She moved to Park Terrace in Kimball in 1985 and lived there until the time of her death.

She is survived by one son, Randall Taylor and his wife Loree of Oceanside, Calif.; daughter Alta Bazemore of Denver; a daughter-in-law Lorene Shaw of Kimball; sisters Irene Albin, Geneva Drake and Edith Terhoun; brother Bill Moss; three step-daughters; five grandchildren Mark, Bryan and Bob Taylor, Charles Bazemore, and Carol Trometter; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great granddaughter and numerous step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, a son, a grandson, two sisters, two brothers, a stepson and stepdaughter, two step-grandchildren and two infant step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Kimball cemetery.

Kent David Jessen

Kent David Jessen, 44, of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., died Monday, October 23, 2000, at United Medical Center-West in Cheyenne, Wyo.

Funeral services were Friday, October 27, at the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball, with Rev. Dwayne Hunzeker officiating. Burial was in Pine Bluffs cemetery.

He was born on November 22, 1955, in Kimball to John and Edith Mae (Buss) Jessen. He graduated from Pine Bluffs High School in 1974. He attended college at Laramie County Community College (LCCC).

He was a professional motorcyle racer and was National #18. He was also a member of the White Plate Flat Trackers.

He farmed north of Pine Bluffs with his dad for many years.

He had been baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Pine Bluffs.

He is survived by his son, Clint Jessen of Pine Bluffs; his mother, Edith Jessen of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Jim Smith of Rapid City, S.D.; his finance, Carol Reid; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father John Jessen.

Memorial gifts may be made to the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball or the United Methodists Women's Club of Pine Bluffs.

Jimmy Richards

Former Kimball resident Jimmy C. Richards, 59 of Sidney, died Sunday, October 29, at the Memorial Health Center Extended Care in Sidney.

Cremation has been held. Memorial services will be held at Friday, November 3, 10 a.m., at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney, with Father Lyle Martin officiating. Inurnment will be in the Potter cemetery.

He was born November 21, 1940, to F.B. and Nannie (Sinclair) Richards November 21, 1940. He attended schools at New Raymer, Colo. He worked in the oil fields for a short time before entering the service. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961.

He married Sherry Bickel November 9, 1958, at Potter. Following his service time, they moved to Texas, where they lived for 20 years. In 1993, they moved to Potter where he worked in the oil fields and as a long-haul truck driver. They moved to Sidney when he became ill.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry; daughter Debbie Methews of Big Spring, Texas; brother and sister-in-law Bobby Ray and Sherry Richards of West Jordan, Utah; sisters and brothers-in-law Peggy and Schyler Crandell of Levelland, Texas, Fayola and Bob Greise of Draper, Utah, Ava Lou Richards of Lubbock, Texas; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son James and brothers Robert and Jack.

Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.

Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney is in charge of the arrangements.

Earl C. Fleagle

Kimball resident Earl C. Fleagle, 91, died Sunday, October 22, 2000, at the Kimball County Hospital. Funeral services were Wednesday, October 25 at the First English Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dwayne Hunzeker officiating.

He was born on April 1, 1909, to Harry and Millie (Thornton) Fleagle in Reynolds, Neb. He married Esther Baluska on June 9, 1939, in Kimball, Neb.

He owned his own farm for many years and then later farmed for other people.

He was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Kimball.

He is survived by his wife Esther of Kimball; sons and daughter-in-law Gordon and Vonda Fleagle of Northglenn, Colo., and Larry and Joanne of Isabel, S.D.; daughters and sons-in-law Florence Fleaming of Las Vegas, Nev., Phyllis and Mike Greenwood of Kimball, Alice and Dan Otoupalik of Pueblo, Colo., Mary and Lee Conner of Alamosa, Colo.; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Leo Fleagle, two sisters Ruby Simpson and Hattie Naiman and one grandchild.

Memorial gifts may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice.

Kent David Jessen

Kent David Jessen, 44, of Pine Bluffs died. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball. Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Molly Shaw

Molly Shaw of Kimball died Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at the Kimball County Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending at Cantrell Funeral Home.

Kellie L. Whitaker

Kellie Whitaker, 20, of Kimball, died Sunday, October 22, 2000, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Cantrell Funeral Home, with Pastor Harvey Macklin officiating.

She was born February 21, 1980, in Kimball to Tom and Teresa (Barr) Whitaker. She attended Kimball High School and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Kimball.

She is survived by her mother Teresa Whitaker of Kimball; brother Kevin and his wife Shauna of Scottsbluff; sisters Kim and her husband Steve of Scottsbluff and Kandi and her husband Rick of Kimball; special friend Allen Achen of Sidney, formerly of Kimball; and "Kellie girls" boy Allen Michael of Kimball; and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her father Tom and Grandpa and Grandma Whitaker and Grandma Barr.

Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Arecia (Sexton) Lee

Lifetime Kimball resident Arecia Dawn (Sexton) Lee, 25, died October 22, 2000, as the result of injures sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 27, 2 p.m., at the Cantrell Funeral Home, with Pastor M.L. Daves officiating. Burial will be in Kimball cemetery.

She was born March 20, 1975, to Robert Dale Sexton and Pamela Sue Evans in Kimball.

She attended Kimball schools up to high school. She quit school and went to work babysitting for a number of Kimball families.

She married Duane Lee, the son of Donnie and Jo Ann Lee, in May 1997. The couple had one daughter, Alecia Nichole on November 11, 1997. They also raised Duane’s three children, Wesley, Karen and Deanna, and Arecia’s son, Dakota.

She worked at Duckwall’s for a year and a half. She had recently started working at Cabela’s, working there for approximately a month and a half.

She and her husband traveled frequently, competing in Karaoke.

She is survived by her husband, children and step-children; mother Pamela Powell of Kimball; grandparents Bill and Donna Evans of Kimball; mother-in-law and father-in-law Donnie and Jo Ann Lee; aunt Jenny Tachiquin of Kimball; uncle Larry and aunt Susan Sexton of Casper, Wyo.; cousins Tahlia Paniaqua and her two sons of Scottsbluff, all formerly of Kimball; and Jesse and Amy Tachiquin of Laramie, Wyo., formerly of Kimball.

She was preceded in death by her father Robert; grandparents Leroy and LaVina Sexton.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Arecia Lee Memorial Fund.

Alden Rundell

Alden Vale Rundell, 92, of Gering, died Sunday, October 8, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Scottsbluff. He grew up in the Gallio community, a part of Banner County, and lived in Pine Bluffs, Wyo.

Funeral services were Thursday, October 12, at the Central Church of Christ in Gering, with Pastor Howard Roseberry officiating. Interment was in West Lawn cemetery.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Geraldine and Fred Tjardes of Greeley, Colo., and Marlene and Duane Deines of Gering; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-laws.

Leonard B. Forman

Leonard B. Forman, 88, died Wednesday, October 11, 2000, at the Residency Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.

Funeral services were Monday, October 16 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball, with Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was in the Kimball cemetery.

He was born December 14, 1911, at Bushnell to George and Cora (Corder) Forman. He graduated from Bushnell High School in 1930. After graduation, he attended the State Teachers’ College in Kearney, Neb. He received his bachelor of arts degree in accounting and was employed by the Internal Revenue Service in the District of Colorado for 26 years.

He married Lewise Lunger in Kearney.

He served in World War II with the 81st tank battalion. He was wounded and a bone from his leg was the first in the bone bank established in World War II.

He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church of Denver, Colo., the Elks Lodge in Scottsbluff, the Plains Historical Society, the American Legion, VFW and the Rotary Club in Kimball.

He also assisted in many projects. In 1975, he laid the groundwork for the community concerts in Kimball. He and Art Henrickson laid the stones for the Nebraska-Colorado-Wyoming borders marker. He and Lewise were named 1984 Farmers’ Day Grand Marshals.

He is survived by his sisters Dorothy Coffman and her husband Roy and Lucile Dolcater of Kimball; and eight nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Memorials have been established to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Kimball cemetery, Kimball Concert Association or the church of the donor’s choice.

Cantrell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
