Thurman E. Decker

Former Kimball resident Thurman E. Decker, 94, of Gillette, Wyo., died Saturday, September 25, 1999, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette.

Funeral services were Tuesday, September 28 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Gillette, with Rev. Dan Lush of First United Methodist Church in Gillette officiating.

He and his wife Doloras Pageler were married in Kimball on April 23, 1937, and lived here until moving to Newcastle, Wyo. in 1955.

He is survived by his wife; one son; three granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; a sister and four brothers.

A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association and may be sent in care of Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 734, Gillette, WY 82717.

William Edwin Skiles

William Edwin Skiles, 86, of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, September 26, 1999, at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. He lived in the Kimball area from 1934 to 1942, when he entered the U.S. Air Force.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 30, at 10 a.m. at the Jones Mortuary Chapel in Mitchell cemetery.

He is survived by numerous cousins.

Memorials may be made to the Mitchell Berean Church.

Betty R. Held

Former Kimball resident Betty R. Held, 52, of Kewaunee, Wis., died Wednesday, September 22, 1999, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kewaunee.

A memorial service was held Sunday, September 26 in Kewaunee.

She was born October 21, 1946, to Edward and Ida (Leibensperger) Callery. She grew up in Allentown, Pa. and graduated from Allen High School. She married Eugene Held September 26, 1969, in Emmaus, Pa. She moved to Kimball in the early ‘90’s and moved to Kewaunee, Wis. in 1997. While in Kimball, she worked at the Kimball County Manor. In Kewaunee, she worked at Point Beach Nuclear Plant as an office assistant.

She is survived by her husband; sons Bret and wife Wanda Miller of Breiniesville, Pa., Joseph Held of Lenhartsville, Pa., Michael and Tricia Held of Algoma, Wis. and Daniel Held of Kewaunee; three sisters and four grandchildren.

Nathan LeRoy Eastman

Nathan LeRoy "Nate" Eastman, 78, died Thursday, September 23, 1999, at his home in Kimball.

Funeral services were Monday, September 27 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was in Kimball cemetery.

Nate was born March 29, 1921 in Kimball to Leon and Emma (Dudek) Eastman. He was raised and educated in Kimball and attended the University of Nebraska before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He graduated from Pilot Training January 7, 1944 and served in the China-Burma-India theater during World War II.

Following his return in 1946, he took over the family insurance and real estate business and completed requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from the University of Wyoming. He joined the Wyoming Air National Guard and served with the 187th Fighter Bomber Squadron in Korea.

He married Elizabeth Gailey in Lincoln, Neb. on June 1, 1942.

Following his return from WWII, they established their home in Kimball where they raised six sons.

He was active in the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball and was a Master Mason with Masonic Lodge 294 in Kimball. He was a member of the Kimball Rotary Club, serving as District Governor of Rotary 1992/1993. He was also a member of the Kimball Chamber of Commerce, the Kimball Airport Authority, and the Vista Villa Board of Trustees. He has also served many years on the school boards of Kimball County.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; sons and daughters-in-law Jug and Colleen of Westminster, Colo., Andy and Audrey of Topeka, Kan., Bill and Cathy of Dallas, Texas, Jim and Ruth of Niwot, Colo., John and Lydia of Sidney, Neb., and Tom and Pat of Scottsbluff, Neb.; sisters, Doris Fritzler of Fort Collins, Colo., and Betty McClenney of Houston, Texas; eleven grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball.

Ronald E. Woodral

Ronald E. Woodral, 53, of Kimball, died Tuesday, September 14, 1999, at Kimball County Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were Friday, September 17 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Dwayne Hunzeker of the First English Church officiating.

He was born September 6, 1946, in Douglas, Wyo., to Everett and Helen (Weaver) Woodral. He grew up and attended school in Riverton, Wyo. He married Mary Aguilar on March 18, 1982, in Cody, Wyo.

He was an electronics technician for Northrup of California and several other firms in California. He retired in 1990 due to illness.

In 1998, the family moved to Kimball from Arapahoe, Neb.

He is survived by his wife Mary; sons Sean, Thor and Luke and daughter Valenteen, all of Kimball.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Karl Richard Madden

Former Bushnell resident Karl Richard Madden, 66, of Sidney, Neb., died Sunday, September 19, 1999, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 23 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney, with Pastor Edgar Schambach officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery.

He was born on July 19, 1933, in Sidney to Edson Larue and Alice F. (Carlson) Madden. He attended the Lorenzo schools, graduating from Lorenzo High School in 1951.

On April 1, 1951, he was united in marriage to Sally Mae Swenson in Peetz, Colo. They made their home and farmed north of Bushnell before moving to the Sidney Draw area in 1964. They continued farming even after moving into Sidney in 1973.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, a long-time member of the Sidney Elk’s Lodge and was very active with the local 4-H clubs over the years.

Survivors include his wife Sally; sons and daughters-in-law Karl and Jean Madden of Casper, Wyo., and Donald and Judy Madden of Kearney, Neb.; daughter and son-in-law Sadonna and Kris Johnson of Sidney; brothers Raymond and Jerry Madden, both of Kimball; sisters Charlotte Fleming of Sidney, Shirley Trimmer of Flagler, Colo. and Alice M. Madden of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the Children’s Hospital in Denver.

Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clara Marie Eby

Clara M. Eby, 79, formerly of Kimball, died Sunday, September 19, 1999, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyo.

Graveside services will be held at 10 A.M., Thursday, September 23, 1999 at Kimball cemetery.

She was born March 2, 1920, in Kimball to George and Anna (Naggatz) Cleveland. She was raised on a farm north of Kimball and graduated from Kimball County High School.

She married Albert "Bob" Eby on September 14, 1938, in Kimball. The couple moved to California and later to Ft. Collins, Colo. where they ran a sawmill in Risk Canyon. They returned to Kimball in 1947, owning and operating several businesses, including Eby Wrecking Yard and the Skate House, which they owned for over 25 years. They retired and moved to Payette, Idaho in 1981. They returned to Kimball in April 1995. Following the death of her husband in 1995, Clara moved to Gillette, Wyo. to live with her daughter.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Hewitt and Mary Daniels, both of Gillette, Wyo.; son Dusty Eby of Kimball; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, one daughter and a sister.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Clara Eby Memorial fund in care of the Cantrell Funeral Home to be designated to hospice by the family.

Dr. Creda E. Thompson

Dr. Creda E. Thompson, 66, of Scottsbluff, Neb., died Saturday, September 18, 1999, at the Village at Regional West in Scottsbluff. She is the mother of Deon Evans of Kimball.

Funeral services were Tuesday, September 21 at the First United Methodist Church in Gering, Neb., with Rev. David Rowe officiating. Internment was at Fairview cemetery in Scottsbluff.

She is survived by daughters Deon Evans of Kimball, Brenda Brown and her husband Mike of Gering, Neb. and Jill Gurney of Gering; son and daughter-in-law Troy and Kathy Thompson of Hays, Kan.; two sisters and two brothers; seven grandchildren, three-step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial has been established to Prairie Haven Hospice.

Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Douglas Harrison

Word has been received of the death Sept. 13 of Douglas Harrison of Escondido, Cal. He was the husband of the former Lucille Spencer of Dix, and a frequent visitor of Phyllis and Gail Southard of Kimball.

Dema L. Nachtigal

Dema L. Nachtigal, 80, of Kimball, died Thursday, September 2, 1999, at her home.

Funeral services were Saturday, September 4 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was in Kimball cemetery.

She was born September 3, 1918, in Doyle, Okla. to J. Demes and Emma (Stotts) Williams. She was educated in Megargel, Texas.

She and Harlow E. Nachtigal were married on June 16, 1941, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They lived in Great Bend, Kan. for a number of years, before moving to Kimball in 1960.

She was employed as a secretary at the County Extension Office from 1967 until 1990, when she retired. She did a great deal of volunteer work for the community and for many church projects. She was an avid bridge player.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball, PEO Chapter GN, the Eagles Auxiliary, the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, the Cedars and Weeders Garden Club, and the County Extension Club.

She is survived by sons Dennis H. Nachtigal and his wife Jolene of Kearney and Mark A. Nachtigal of Denver, Colo.; sisters Scotty Bottarini and her husband George of Penn Grove, Calif., and Wynona Branson of Decatur, Texas; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harlow on November 9, 1978, and her parents.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Dema L. Nachtigal Memorial Fund to be designated later to a community project.

Steven Herboldsheimer

Former Potter resident Steven Karl Herboldsheimer, 45, of Osceola, Neb., died August 31, 1999, at the Regional West Medical Center in Hastings, Neb. following a long illness.

Memorial services were held Sunday, September 5 at the Evangelical Free Church in Sidney, with Pastor Doug Birky officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Potter cemetery.

He was born November 19, 1953, to Bennie and Charlyn (Hagmeister) Herboldsheimer in Sidney. He attended the Potter Schools and graduated from Potter High School. He then enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He was very active with the UNL Marching Band, attending several bowl games and various marching competitions. He then returned home and attended Western Nebraska Community College, earning a degree in welding and later studied auto body repair.

He was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, the Lion’s Club, the Potter Trap Club, the Ft. Sidney Colonels and was formerly a licensed pilot.

Survivors include his parents; children Daniel and Heidi Herboldsheimer, both of Sterling, Colo.; sisters Susan Kruse and her husband Darrell of Auburn, Neb., Patrice Egging and her husband Mike of Pratt, Kan., and Alicia Eagan and her husband Wayne of Arapaho, Okla.

Memorials may be made in care of the Sidney Evangelical Free Church or to the donor’s choice.

Holechek Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
