Reinhold Schukei

Reinhold ‘Reiny’ Julius Schukei, 78, of Sun City, Ariz., died Feb. 21, 1999, at Boswell Memorial Hospital in Sun City, Ariz. He is a former Kimball and Scottsbluff resident.

Funeral services were Sat., Feb. 27, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff, with the Rev. Mervyn Bauer officiating. Interment was at the Creighton Valley cemetery, with military rites by Admiral Dewey Post #1681 VFW.

He is survived by his wife Alice; son Ryan of Lakenheath, England; daughter Janice Schweitz of Minot, N.D.; two brothers; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 15630 Del Webb Boulevard, Sun City, Ariz. or The American Lung Association.

Holger F. Gram

Long-time Kimball resident Holger Gram, 97, died at the Kimball Manor, Sat., Feb. 27, 1999. Funeral services were Wed., March 3 at the Presbyterian Church in Kimball with the Rev. Craig zumBrunnen officiating. Burial was in Kimball cemetery.

He was born Oct. 28, 1901, at Hormested, Denmark to Marius and Engel (Pries) Gram-Mikkelsen. His early years were spent on the farm. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Denmark at 14. He was then ready to go out and work. He worked mostly in creameries. He attended dairy school.

At the invitation of a friend and a promise of a job at Sorensen's creamery, he decided to come to America, landing in New York in July 28.1928. In 1934, he decided to become a farmer and rented a farm northeast of Kimball. On Dec. 20, 1939, he married Lula Ross. They lived on their farm until they moved to Kimball in 1994. He moved to the Kimball County Manor on Feb. 24, 1999.

He was a member of Presbyterian Church of Kimball. He had served as both trustee and elder.

He is survived by his wife, Lula; two sons and daughters-in-law Dan and Dianne Gram of Vermont, Gordon and Carmen Gram of Grand Junction, Colo; one daughter Bonnie and son-in-law Al Kovatch of Denver; three grandchildren; two step granddaughters; two great granddaughters M and two step great grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers .

Memorials may be donated to the Presbyterian Church of Kimball or to the Kimball County Manor.

Robert S. Stauffer

Robert S. Stauffer, 84, of Harrisburg died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at the Village at Regional West in Scottsbluff, Neb.

Funeral services were Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at Gering Memorial Chapel with Rev. Rock Stahla officiating. Burial was in the Kimball cemetery.

He was born on Nov. 5, 1914, in Banner County to Frank F. and Martha (Osborne) Stauffer. He spent his life in Banner County and as a young man he enjoyed riding "broncy" saddlehorses. He also enjoyed raising Hereford cattle and farming. He married Marjorie H. Wilkinson on Oct. 1, 1939, at Torrington, Wyo.

He is survived by his wife; daughter and son-in-law Mary and Ron Stahla of Lexington, Neb.; sons Frank and Robert J. and daughter-in-law Judy, all of Harrisburg; brother Walter of Gering and two sisters, Mary Luckbill of Bridgeport, Neb. and Cora Koenig of Phoeniz, Ariz; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother, a sister and one grandson.

Memorials can be made to the Banner County Fire Department and Rescue Unit.

Harold Leroy Alderman

Harold Leroy Alderman, 90, of Gordon, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at the Gordon Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were Monday, March 1 at the Gordon Church of God, with Pastor Harlen Wheeler officiating. Interment was in the Alliance cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Gordon Countryside Care.

He was born Dec. 27, 1908, to Monte and Sylvia Alderman in Barnum, Wis. He formerly lived in Banner County until the time of his wife’s illness in 1976.

He is survived by his wife, Etta; sister Hazel of Sacremento, Calif., and many other family members.

Levi C. White

Levi C. White, 24, of Greeley, Colo. died Nov. 16, 1998 as the result of a traffic accident near Kersey. He is the son of Ivan Albert and Joyce Kay (Lipprand) White of Kimball.

No services will be held.

He was born March 13, 1974, in Kimball. He grew up and attended school in Kimball where he graduated high school. He moved to Greeley, Colo. after graduation where he drove truck for Goodrich Trucking.

Survivors include his parents; his wife Katrina Burke of Greeley; brother David White of Kimball; sisters Tony Anderson of Ft. Morgan, Colo. and Lesli Kellner of Guthrie, Olka.; mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law Kathy Balcom Burke and Donald Simmons of Greeley; father-in-law Alan Burke of Casper, Wyo.; sister-in-law Stevi Burke of Greeley and several nieces and nephews.

Roberta Ann (Anderson) Robb

Roberta Ann Anderson Robb, 70, of Denver, Colo., died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, in Englewood, Colo. after a long illness. Graveside services will be Friday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Kimball cemetery.

She was born at home in Bushnell on Sept. 16, 1928, to Winfield and Pearl Anderson. She attended Bushnell and Banner schools. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1948 and from Scottsbluff Jr. College in 1950. She worked in a career as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include her sisters Helen Richards and Lorene Shaw, both of Kimball; brother DeRoy Anderson of Kimball; son Michael J. of Littleton, Colo.; son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Marla of San Benito, Texas; daughter Denise A. Walker of Littleton; grandson Scott and his wife Somer of Donna, Texas; grandsons Jeffrey of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Zachary of Littleton; granddaughter JoAnna Walker of Littleton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.

Freda Mary Pahl

Freda Mary Pahl, 76, of Kimball, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, in Kimball. A funeral mass was held on Nov. 16, 1998, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with Father Francis Curran as celebrant. Burial was in the Kimball cemetery with services by V.F.W. Auxiliary #2243. A rosary was held Sunday at Cantrell Funeral Home.

She was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Kimball. She spent most of her life in Kimball, except for several years when she lived on her family’s homestead near Laramie Peak, Wyo. She married Joe Cunningham in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1952. On Jan. 19, 1974, she married Francis Pahl.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Rosary Altar Society. She was very active with the V.F.W. Auxiliary and was department chairwoman and local chairwoman for entertaining veterans at the Veteran’s Hospital in Cheyenne Wyo. She was also a volunteer for Meals On Wheels.

She is survived by her husband Francis Pahl of Kimball; son Clarence Cunningham of Scottsbluff; daughters and sons-in-law Helen and Lloyd Welty of Rock Springs, Wyo. and Phyllis and Dennis Tuzicka of Sidney; seven grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, daughter Judith Ann Cunningham and four brothers.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1117, Torrington, Wyo. 82240.

Ruthella Lauder

Ruthella Lauder, 73, of Chadron, died, Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Chadron Community Hospital. She is the mother of Debbie Serres of Potter.

Funeral services were Nov. 21 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Ed. Cortney officiating. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron was in charge of arrangements.

She was born March 6, 1925, in Clinton, Neb. to Marion and Jessie (Westlake) Parrott.

She is survived by her sons Jim of Morrill, John and Diann of Alliance and Roger and Gloria of Alliance; daughters Linda Lauder of Denver, Janice Fodor of Colorado Springs and Debbie and Larry Serres of Potter; sister Dorothy Davis of Ainsworth; and 13 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo, son Larry, two sisters and one brother.

A memorial has been established to the family and donations may be sent to First National Bank in Chadron.

Esther Leckner

Esther Leckner, 78, of Kimball, died Wednesday morning, Nov 18, 1998, at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. A funeral mass was Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with Father Francis Curran officiating. Burial was at Bushnell cemetery. A rosary was held at Cantrell Funeral Home on Sunday.

She was born Nov.16, 1920, in Hays, Kan., to Cosmas and Kathryn (Weigel) Staab. She married William Leckner on Jan. 12, 1943, in Dalton. They lived in Alliance before moving to Kimball in 1964. She owned and operated the Western Market in Kimball with her husband until his death in 1991. She then worked at George Risk Industries until the spring of this year.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Rosary Altar Society.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Karoleen and William Mika of Sidney; brothers Virgil Staab and Leland "Shorty" Staab both of Kimball; sisters Fabiola Hirschfeld of Brush, Colo., Betty Christenson of Kimball and Ramona Allen of Bridgeport, Texas; grandchildren Lori Ann and her husband Gregory Walker of Lubbock, Texas and JaNee and her husband Gerald Leibrand of Billings, Mont.; and great-grandchildren James and Jacob Leibrand.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and a sister.

Fern Caroline Baker

Fern Caroline Baker, 78, of Sidney, died Friday, Nov. 29, 1998, at Memorial Health Center in Sidney.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Dalton with the Rev. Ruth Boettcher officiating. Burial will be in the Dalton cemetery. Holechek Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was born July 12, 1920, at Dalton to Mabel (Reinmuth) and Bert Gillespie. She graduated from Broadwater High School in 1938. On May 15, 1939, she married Gene Baker in Kimball. They lived at Broadwater, North Platte, Scottsbluff and retired to Sidney.

Survivors include her husband, Gene, of Dalton; daughters Joan Loghry and LaVon Kahl, both of Sidney; son Duane Baker of South Pasadena, Calif.; brother Don Gillespie of Portland, Ore.; ten grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Dale and Don, sister Marge and sons-in-law Jack Schlicker and Jim Loghry.

Memorials can be made to the Dalton Fire Department or the Alzheimer’s Secure Unit at Memorial Health Center Extended Care.

Ruth Cromie

Ruth Cromie, 94, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at her daughter’s house in Lakeport, Calif.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, Nov. 27 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Father Francis Curran officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball cemetery. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the Cantrell Funeral Home. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

She was born Dec. 16, 1903, at Lake View, Iowa to James and Margaret (Battie) Fitzsimmons. Ruth was a teacher for many years in Kimball County. She married Jess Cromie.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Rosary Altar Society. She served on the Kimball Library Board. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross for many years. She loved to play bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lou White of Lakeport, Calif.; sister, Mable Fitzsimmons; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; son John and seven brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Lake County, 1717 South Main Street, Lakeport, Calif. 95453.

Emily Louise Carlson

Former Potter resident Emily Louise Carlson, 87, passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at SunRise Care and Rehabilitation of Moses lake, Wash. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at 2:30 p.m. at the Potter cemetery, with the Rev. Don Notz officiating. Visitation can be made from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney. Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Nov. 9, 1911, in Hayes County, Nebraska to the late Carl Heinrich and Anna Louise (Corlett) Hagemeister. She was raised and educated in Potter, graduating from Potter High School in 1930. She was married to Emil Theodore "Ted" Carlson on Oct. 3, 1930, in Sterling, Colo.

They lived and farmed on the Carlson Homestead north of Potter until 1957. They then began working for the Fred Harvey Corporation, a company that operated and maintained national parks and monuments where she worked as a gift shop clerk. While with Fred Harvey, they lived and worked in several areas of the southwest. In 1972, they moved to Moses Lake where they have lived since.

While living in Nebraska, she was a member of the Royal Neighbors, Eastern Star, was a 4-H leader and was an organizer and the superintended of the Prairie View Sunday School. She was a member of the Moses Lake Senior Citizens and attended the Free Methodist Church of Moses Lake.

Survivors include her husband, daughter Byrdeen Worley of Moses Lake; son Charles Carlson of Kimball; two sisters Katheryn Nelson and Charlyn Herboldsheimer, both of Potter, 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Mabel Hagemeister, two daughters Betty Cushing and Beverly Neilson and son-in-law David Worley.

Memorials may be made to Camp Rock, American Missionary Fellowship, Bridgeport, Neb.

Joe Minar, Jr.

Joe Minar, Jr., 54, of Bridgeport, died Nov. 14, 1998, at Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport with Reverend James Leslie Kidd officiating. A private family visitation and cremation will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff.

Memorials may be given in care of the family.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn Minar of Bridgeport; son Joe Minar of Springfield, S.D.; daughter Jana Minar of Bridgeport; step-daughters Melinda Thompson of McNeil, Ariz. and Amy Vann of Phoenix, Ariz., sister Lorabell Kugler of Ashton, Neb.; ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-father.
