Agnes Lukesh

Agnes Lukesh, 91, of Sidney, Neb. and a former Kimball resident, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the Sidney Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, in the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the Rev. Gary Aten of the First United Methodist Church officiating.

Graveside services and burial were in the Kimball cemetery.

Holechek Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was born July 22, 1907, in Hallam, Neb. to Frank and Mary (Chrastil) Bilka.

When she was three years old, her parents moved to Valley County, near Comstock, Neb., where she grew up.

On January 22, 1929, she married Albert Lukesh in Ord, Neb.

They moved to Kimball right after their marriage and lived there until moving to Burwell, Neb. in September of 1936.

In 1948, they moved back to Kimball and moved to Sidney in 1982.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Alvin and Royalee Lukesh of Sidney; daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Walt Skrdlant of Sterling, Colo.; daughter Betty Janicek of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987, her parents, three brothers, two sisters, one of which was her twin, one granddaughter, Connie Skrdlant Pafford, and one son-in-law, Donald Janicek.

Jacob "Jake" Huber

Jacob "Jake" Huber, 84, of Bayard, Neb. died Tursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at the Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard.

He is the father of Linda Dickerson of Kimball.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 26 at the Faith United Church of Christ.

Interment was in the Bayard cemetery.

He was born June 26, 1914, in Mitchell Valley, the son of Jacob and katherine (Pfenning) Huber.

As a young child, he moved with his family to the Bayard area where he attended rural school.

He was united in marriage to Marie "Mary" Lockman Feb. 18, 1934, in Bayard.

They farmed in the Bridgeport, McGrew and Bayard areas from 1934 until his retirement in 1980.

Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta Jane and Frank McGinley of Olathe, Kans., Linda Lee and Bill Dickerson of Kimball; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granchild; brother Henry Huber of Bridgeport; sisters, Mary Wickman of Denver and Irene Kraus and Helen Blum, both of Morrill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; daughter, Lillian Huber Turner; brothers William and John Huber; and sister Lydia Harimon.

Memorials have been established to the church of Chimney Rock Villa.

Dorene A. Adels

Dorene Alice Adels, 78, of Bushnell, died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at the Kimball County Manor.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998 at Grace Lutheran Church in Pine Bluffs, Wyo. with Pastor Tom Jacobsen officiating.

Burial was in the Kimball cemetery. A memorial has been established in care of the family.

She was born May 31, 1920, in Kimball to Albert and Alice (Carlburg) Imes.

She attended and graduated from the Kimball schools. She graduated from Kearney State Teachers College and taught school for two years in the Kimball County area.

On Sept. 28, 1940, she married Bill Adels in Harrisburg.

They moved to a farm south of Kimball, where they lived for 12 years.

She worked for Dr. Edwin Core for 12 years and the Kimball County Hospital for 10 years.

After that, she and her husband did carpentry and painting work until retiring in 1991.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Pine Bluffs, Wyoming.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; daughters and son-in-law, Kazan Schmidt of Ventura, Calif. and Diane and Dennis Christophersen of Brady, Neb.; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Janet Adels of Casper, Wyo.; sisters, Margie Halstead of Castle Rock, Colo. and L'Marie Watson of Kimball; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Eugene Imes; sister, Velva Novotny; and a grandchild.

William F. Behrends

William Frederich Behrends, 94, of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, in the Kimball County Manor.

Funeral services will be held Thursday (today), Oct. 15, 1998, at 10:00 a.m. in the Pine Bluffs United Methodist Church with Rev. Terilynn Russ officiating.

Burial will be in the Pine Bluffs cemetery with Masonic services.

Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born August 21, 1904, at Roca, Neb. to Benjamin and Wilhemenia (Ahrens) Behrends.

He started working for the Union Pacific Railroad from May 10, 1926 and was promoted to foreman in 1928.

He spent four years in the National Guard.

On Feb. 26, 1944, he married Phyllis Birt.

He retired from the railroad in 1969.

He then spent time in his hobby shop doing carpenter work and saw sharpening.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Pine Bluffs, the U.P. Old-timers Club, Worthy Patron of Eastern Star and a Thirty-second Degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Pine Bluffs; son and daughter-in-law, William David and Dorothy Behrends of Ellsworth, Neb.; brother, Harry Behrends of Roca; sister, Freda Hopp of Bennet, Neb.; granddaughter, Heather and her husband, Jason Haynes; grandsons, Jeffrey Weller and Aaron and his wife, Sara Behrends; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard Frederich; brothers, Adolph, Ben, Carl, Henry and Ralph.

Memorials have been established to the Pine Bluffs United Methodist Church and the Kimball County Hospital.

Venda M. Phillips

Venda M. Phillips, 94, of Kimball, Nebraska, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, in the Kimball County Manor at Kimball.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the Cantrell Funeral Home with private burial in the Kimball cemetery.

Rev. Daniel Zitterkopf officiated.

She was born July 14, 1904 to Thomas and Effie (Hurst) Russell in Grafton, Neb.

She was raised in Grafton.

She moved to Kimball County to live with her brother, Earl, in 1923, where she taught school.

She married Lewis E. Phillips in 1925 in Wray, Colo.

They farmed southwest of Kimball.

In 1949, they moved to Ft. Lupton, Colo. to farm.

They also lived in Loveland and Boulder before returning to Kimball in 1966.

She was a member of the Methodist churches in the communities where they lived and was active in her church and community organizations.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley and Esther Phillips of Bushnell, Douglas and Shirley Phillips of Colorado Springs, Colo., Cyril and Beth of Woodland, Calif. and Thomas of North Platte, Neb.; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and George Hockman of Littleton, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, a sister, a half-brother and a grandson.

Memorials have been established to the Kimball County Hospital Foundation and to the Kimball County Manor.

Leslie (Ike) Lipska

Leslie (Ike) Lipska, 78, of Potter, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998 at the Memorial Health Center in Sidney.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, in the Potter United Methodist church with Pastor Carol Fine officiating.

Burial will be in the Potter cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the Masonic home for cripple children, the Potter Historical Museum or the Memorial Health Center Hospice.

He was born Dec. 22, 1919, in Cheyenne County to Frank B. and Pearl W. (Belden) Lipska.

He attended Prairie View School District #42 until the eighth grade.

As a young adult, he broke and rode horses.

On Sept. 2, 1945, he was united in marriage to Willomine Evelyn Johnson at the Potter Methodist Parsonage.

She preceded him in death in 1981.

He worked on his family farm and ranch until 1955.

Until 1973, he worked for Cliff farms until 1973 and then for the Cheyenne County Highway Department until his retirement in May of 1984.

On Jan. 7, 1989, he was united in marriage to Helen May Tallmage at the Dalton Lutheran Church.

He was a member of the Frank Welch Lodge #75, A.F. & A.M. and was a past master of the Potter Masonic Lodge #313.

He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Patron of the organization.

He was the president of the Potter Historical Museum.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Potter; two sons, Lloyd Lipska and his wife Janet of Gothenburg, Neb. and Leroy Lipska and his wife Rachel of Pine Bluffs, Wyo.; one daughter Lois Schlacter and her husband Perry of Monument, Colo.; two step-sons, Scott Tallmage and his wife Pam of North Platte, Neb. and Monte Tallmage and his wife Shelly of Potter; one step-daughter Linda Woodward and her husband Doug of North Platte; ten grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and seven brothers and sisters.
