Laura June Pointer, 92, Littleton, Colo., formerly Weeping Water, died Tuesday (7/21/2009) peacefully at St. John's Hospice, Lakewood, Colo.

Laura was born in Unadilla, Neb. on November 4, 1916, to G.W. and Bettie (Cinda) Johnson.

She was a homemaker and attended Ascension Lutheran Church.

Laura is survived by two daughters, Lorine (Delwin) Garu, Littleton, Colo.; Colleen (Marion) Weideman, Omaha; son, Jerry (Dorothy) Pointer, Elmwood; eight grandchildren and spouses; two step granddaughters and spouses; 12 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; four sisters; former husband, Edgar Pointer; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Pointer; and grandson, Kevin Pointer.

Funeral Service 10:30 a.m. Saturday (7/25/2009) at the United Methodist Church, Weeping Water, with Sandy Webster officiating.

Visitation 1-8 p.m. Friday (7/24/2009) with family greeting friends 6-8 p.m. at Hammons Funeral Chapel, Weeping Water.

Interment at Oakwood cemetery, Weeping Water.

Family requests memorials to St. John's Hospice or Ascension Lutheran Church.

Merle E. Hanich, 94, Lincoln, died Thursday (7/23/2009).

Memorial Service 10 a.m. Saturday (7/25/2009) at The Gallery in The Seasons at Eastmont Towers, 6305 "O" Street, Lincoln.

Pastor Mark Ebert will officiate.

Interment: Lincoln Memorial Park. Memorials to Eastmont Towers.

Tommie L. Chavez

Tommie L. Chavez, 62, Lexington, Neb., died June 25, 2009.

Services are pending.

Viola M. Wagener

Viola M. Wagener, 81, Lincoln, formerly Overton, widow of Henry, 81, died Wednesday (7/22/2009) at her home in Lincoln.

She was born March 13, 1928, at Montgomery City, Mo. to Everett and Myrtle M. (Eaton) Frank.

She married Henry Wagener on February 14, 1946, at St. Charles, Mo.

They traveled with the dam building crew through Iowa and Nebraska for three years.

When the children came, they settled in Missouri until 1955 and then moved to rural Dawson County, Neb., eventually settling in Overton.

After the death of Henry, Viola moved to Lincoln to live with her daughter, Carol.

She loved her flower gardens, painting, cooking and collecting, but, mostly she loved her family.

She was active in garden clubs, grand generation centers and the Overton Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bobbie Lee, Eugene and Marvin; and her beloved husband of 60 years.

She is survived by son, Phillip Wagener; and daughters, Linda (Richard) Thornton and Carol Wagener; sister, Elsie (Al) Lott; brothers, Carl Frank and Joe Frank; six grandchildren: Curt (Cassie) Wagener; Brad (Chrissy) Wagener; Jeremy (Tana) Wagener; Ryan (Christina) Wagener; Zach Wagener and Kelsi Wagener; eight great-grandchildren; and many friends and distant relatives.

Funeral Services 10 a.m. Saturday (7/25/2009) at the Christian Church, Overton, with Pastor Dean Pofahl officiating.

Burial: Overton cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Overton Rescue Unit.

Reynolds-Love Funeral Home of Lexington and Overton are in charge of arrangements.

Amy Allington

Amy Allington, 84, Bayard, former long time resident of Lincoln, widow of William, passed away Saturday (6/27/2009).

A private family memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Friday (7/24/2009) at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln.

Alice A. Mashek

Alice A. Mashek, 92, Crete, passed away Thursday (7/23/2009).

Born December 1, 1916 to Frank and Agnes Schultz.

Preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; sisters, Erma Ripley and Eleanora Hynek.

Survived by nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services 11 a.m. Friday (8/14/2009) at Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete.

Graveside services 10 a.m. Tuesday, family and friends meet at Wilber Czech cemetery.

Visitation 5-9 p.m. Monday (7/27/2009) at Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete.

Memorials in care of the family. Kuncl Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gregory L. Dunbar

Gregory L. Dunbar, 53, Lincoln, passed away Sunday (7/5/2009).

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday (7/27/2009) at the Unitarian Church, 6300 A St., Lincoln.

Memorials can be sent to the Great Plains Trail Network, 5000 N. 7th St., Lincoln, NE 68521.

Friends are invited to join a memorial bicycle ride to the church beginning at Bike Pedalers (33rd and B) at 1 p.m.

Gary Lee Portsche

Gary Lee Portsche, 71, Olathe, Kan., passed away at his home Tuesday (7/21/2009).

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (7/25/2009) at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, KS (913) 592-2244.

Visitation will follow the service.

Inurnment in Spring Hill cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society or to a fund for his daughter (Lisa Wilkinson Medical Fund) to help pay expenses in her battle with cancer.

L. Susan Smith

L. Susan Smith, 62, Lincoln, died Friday (7/24/2009).

Teacher/School Administrator with Lincoln Public Schools.

Survivors: husband, Sam Smith, Lincoln; son, Spencer Smith, Lincoln; aunt, Virginia Robertson, Chanute, Kan.; two cousins, Cindy Robertson, Chanute, Kan.; Gina Maloney, Delores, Colo. Preceded by: parents; one uncle.

Memorial service 1 p.m. Wednesday (7/29/2009) at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln.

Memorials: Lincoln Public Schools Foundation.

Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home will be handling arrangements.
