Zalman -- E. Theone (Frey), 88, Gering, died Monday (12/3/2001). Born, Elwood (8/25/13) to Omer and Ida (Hatcher) Frey. Graduated, Lincoln High School, 1933. Attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Nebraska Wesleyan University, receiving her B.S. in education in 1937. Member, Willard Sorority. Taught in numerous schools in Nebraska, 1938-1978. Taught third grade in the Gering Public School System, 1953-1978, then retired. Met her husband, William, in Weeping Water, and they were married 6/2/46 in Lincoln. They lived in Crete and moved to Gering in 1953, where they lived until her death. Active in the Order of the Eastern Star as a past matron and was past president of Chapter GI, PEO. Fifty-five-year member of PEO. Member, American Association University Women. Enjoyed many hobbies, including sewing, cooking, singing, Nebraska history and crossword puzzles. Her greatest joys were her husband, children, grandchildren, and niece and nephew, Cathie and Vern Hilyard. She loved and strongly believed in public education and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Theone leaves her husband, Bill; her daughter, Jeanie and husband Steve Benson, Keenesburg, Colo.; son, Bill and wife Gailene Zalman, Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandsons, Zack Benson, Keenesburg, Jered Butts, Colorado Springs; granddaughter, Raelyn Butts, Colorado Springs; brother, sister-in-law, John and Marie Frey, Lincoln; numerous nieces and nephews. Theone was a wonderful person and will be sadly missed by all. Her parents, Omer and Ida Frey, and sister Jean Speedlin preceded her in death.
