Clare -- Leland Timothy, 83, San Antonio, died Jan. 19 in Kerrville, Texas, after a lengthy illness. Born, rural Cortland (4/30/18) to John J. and Alice Kelly Clare. Graduate, University of Nebraska; lettered in wrestling. During World War II, served in the U.S. Army at the POW camp in Huntsville, Texas, and later in San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston. Began in the insurance business after military service and eventually owned a small insurance business that he operated until his retirement. Long-time supporter of education, particularly Catholic education. During the 1950s, was on the adjunct faculty at St. Mary's University, where he taught government. Strong supporter of St. Anthony Catholic elementary school. Some of his dearest friends were those that he and his wife met through these schools. Long-time parishioner, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, where he went to Mass daily, health allowing, and served as an usher at the 8:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. He was known for his kindness and integrity. His priorities were his faith, his family and his work.
Survivors: his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary; daughter, Melissa Clare, Pasadena, Calif.; sons, daughter-in-law, Kelly Clare, Riley Clare, Nelson and Nan Clare; grandchildren, Katherine Harris, Capt. Sam Clare and wife Ali, Austin, Texas, Ben Clare; brother, sister-in-law, Truman and Rosemary Clare, St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister-in-law, Jo Clare, Lincoln; brother-in-law, sister-in-law, Charles and Jane Nelson, Georgetown, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews. Preceded in death by his infant son, Timothy; young daughter, Cathy; brother, Tom Clare Sr.; nephew, Tom Clare Jr.; brother, sister-in-law, Gene and Mae Clare.
Rosary and services were held Jan. 23 and 24, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment followed at San Fernando Archdiocesan cemetery No. 2. McLaughlin -- Mary C. (Yettman), 87, Lincoln, formerly of Geneva, died Thursday (1/24/2002). Director of lunch program, Geneva High School. She started the hot lunch program for the Geneva schools and served as manager and head cook. Worked full time for the schools for 32 years. Many former students said her lunches, chili and cinnamon rolls were the best. Worked for the Geneva Post Office during World War II, delivering parcel post and serving as substitute carrier. Owned/operated Mac's Cafe and Grocery, Geneva. Member, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Geneva; Altar Society. Big Red, East High Spartan and Geneva Wildcats fan. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her a lot of enjoyment.
