Assistant professor, civil engineering, Texas A&M; University, engineering research associate, Texas Transportation Institute, 1965-1973. Employed, traffic engineering firm of Pinnell, Anderson, Wilshire and Associates, Dallas, 1973-1976. After coming to Nebraska in 1976, taught graduate, undergraduate courses, conducted research in areas of traffic operations and control, geometric design, highway safety. Nationally recognized researcher in traffic engineering and highway safety. Published more than 40 journal articles, two books, more than 60 research reports. Member and active in several professional organizations including Institute of Transportation Engineers, Transportation Research Board, American Traffic Safety Services Association, Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Chi Epsilon. Served on several national professional committees for National Cooperative Highway Research Program, TRB, ITE. Appointed vice chairman, Civil Engineering Department, UNL, 1993. Served, director of Mid-America Transportation Center since 1995. Appointed Leonard A. Lovell Professor of Civil Engineering, 1998. Faculty adviser, UNL student chapter of ITE for several years. His career was marked by his commitment to his students, colleagues and improving his profession.
