Larry Frank Reed
(January 2, 1936 - September 27, 2013)

Larry F. Reed, 77, of rural Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013, at his home.

He was born January 2, 1936, in Lexington to John Frank and Gladys B. (Courter) Reed. Larry attended school at Lexington and joined the Army Reserves on May 7, 1957, he was honorably discharged on May 6, 1963. During his growing up years he was involved in 4-H where he showed champion sheep and calves, earning many accolades at Ak-Sar-Ben and the Nebraska State Fair.

Larry was united in marriage to Arlene McCandless on November 30, 1958, in Lexington. Three children were blessed to this marriage; Jim, Kathy and Mike.

Larry’s life was the farm. He farmed his entire life until his health forced him to slow down. He enjoyed being with his family and was so proud when his granddaughters decided to show calves through their 4-H groups. In his spare time he liked to fish. Larry will be so missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 55 years; Arlene of rural Lexington; sons, Jim (TeAnne) Reed of Lexington, Nebraska; Mike (Lana) Reed of Columbus, Nebraska; daughter, Kathy (Scott) Thomsen of Wahoo, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Jenna (J.P.) Roberts of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; Jamie Reed and fiancé Colby Slonecker of Brady, Nebraska; Travis Reed (Kensie Lyon) of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Sarah (Matt) Walsh of Omaha, Nebraska; Tyler Reed and fiancé Alexis Arlt and their son, Jude of Columbus, Nebraska; Alison Thomsen of Wahoo, Nebraska; and, Kyle Reed and his fiancé Iana Luft and their daughter, Addison of Columbus, Nebraska; two brothers, Dave (Joy) Reed of Kearney, Nebraska; Dennis (Barb) Reed of Ft. Collins, Colorado; two sisters, Shirley Hill and Linda Bonner of Kearney, Nebraska;, sister-in-law, Gail Reed of Cozad, Nebraska; aunt, Della Mae Courter of Lexington, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack and one brother-in-law, Troy Hill.

Funeral Services will be Monday, September 30, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Reverend Caroline Vickery and Pastor Dr. Dyton Owen co-officiating.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 29, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Burial with Military Honors will be in the Hewitt cemetery north of Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to Dawson County 4-H or the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department.

Carolyn Gail Harris
(June 29, 1942 - September 22, 2013)

Carolyn Gail “Carol” Harris, 71, of Doniphan, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.

She was born June 29, 1942, in Lexington, Nebraska. Carol attended school in Lexington where she graduated from Lexington High School. She moved away shortly after graduation and lived in various towns until settling in Doniphan.

Carol worked as a cook most of her career, most recently at Bosselman’s in Wood River and Tommy’s Family Restaurant in Grand Island. Her health forced her to retire.

Carol was known for her quick smile and was always ready to talk to anyone about anything. She will be so very missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Raschelle (J.B.) Ross of Broken Bow, Nebraska; one granddaughter, Heather, and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, David Hopkins of Nashville, Tennessee; Mike (Phyla) Hopkins of Exeter, Nebraska; Kevin (Deb) Hopkins of San Angelo, Texas; two sisters, Lois Goehner of Grand Island, Nebraska; and, Lynnette Gomez of Doniphan, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather; one son, Roland Slama; one brother, Richard; and, four sisters, Janet, Elaine, Barb and Karen.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 26, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner officiating.

Burial will be in the Grace cemetery between Lexington and Cozad on the old Cozad Highway.

Visitation will be held the day of the service form 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.

Kenneth A. Hodgson
(February 27, 1924 - June 29, 2012)

Kenneth A. Hodgson, 88, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at Lexington Regional Health Center.

Ken was born February 27, 1924, at Lexington, Nebraska to Oliver and Essie (McClamrock) Hodgson. He attended school in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1942. He was united in marriage to Gladys Clements on May 14, 1944, in Norton, Kansas. Two children were blessed to this marriage; Ronnie & Beth.

Ken spent over 50 years as a building contractor and owned and operated Hodgson Installation Company. Following his retirement he drove the Handi-Bus for 8 years, but continued his love of woodworking until his health forced him to stop.

He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served on many committees and held several board positions throughout the years. He is very proud of the wooden cross he constructed which still holds a special place at the front of the church.

Ken was a quiet, kind man who will be so very missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years: Gladys of Lexington, NE

One son: Ronnie (Prime) Hodgson of Seattle, WA

One daughter: Beth Hodgson of Lexington, NE

One Foster daughter: Mila Adams of Council Bluffs, IA

Six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Don and one sister, LoRee Timmerman.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Caroline Vickery and Reverend James Watson Co-Officiating.

Burial will be in the Robb cemetery south of Lexington.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 2, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church.

Madonna Nichelson
(June 6, 1929 - October 3, 2011)

Madonna Nichelson, 82, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska.

She was born June 6, 1929, at Omaha, Nebraska to Claude and Edna (Lobdell) Janson. The family moved to Cozad when she was in the 8th grade, where she finished her schooling. She was united in marriage to Jim Nichelson on April 27, 1946, at Norton, Kansas. The couple was blessed with three children; Gerald “Jerry”, Linda and Mike.

Madonna worked several places during her working years; including, B&D; in Broken Bow, IBP in Lexington, and Walmart in Lexington. She also was the caretaker for several elderly ladies around the area and sold Avon for years.

Madonna loved to dance and play Bingo, but being with her family was her greatest joy. She was a kind lady who had an award-winning smile and a heart of gold.

She is survived by one daughter: Linda and husband Maynard Barnes of Broken Bow, NE.

One son: Mike Nichelson of Overton, NE.

One daughter-in-law: Myrna Nichelson of San Diego, California.

Twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren

Special Friend: Tony Kotschwar of Lexington, Nebraska

Madonna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim in 1988, and son, Jerry in 1994.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Reverend Caroline Vickery officiating.

Burial will be held in the Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska.

Visitation will be Monday, October 10, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the Elwood Care Center or Lexington Regional Health Center Hospice.

Minnie May Wolf
(May 19, 1923 - October 3, 2011)

Minnie May Wolf, 88, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011, at Mt. Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney.

She was born May 19, 1923, in Spalding, Nebraska to James A. and Rosa (Hemenway) Harvey. On March 18, 1944, she married Steven Lenno Wolf, in North Platte, Nebraska. He died on October 7, 1971.

She attended country school near Spalding, Nebraska and received her GED in 1986. The couple farmed in Dawson County for twenty-five years. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at a young age. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, which later became the United Church of Sumner. She was very active in the church. She was a counselor and served other positions at the Homeward Trail Bible Camp at Mason City, Nebraska for over 20 years.

Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed gardening, reading, writing letters and crocheting. She was a member of Park Valley Aid, and Kearney Christian Women’s Club, and the 1923 Writing Club.

She is survived by her daughter: Eileen Morgan and her husband Larry of Kearney, NE.

Three grandsons: Roger Morgan and his wife Keri of Kearney, NE.

Jeff Morgan and his wife Rachel of Holdrege, NE.

Dana Morgan and his wife Teresa of Kearney, NE.

Four great-grandchildren: Tanner, Eli, Avalon, and Rowan.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother, Marion; and infant twins, daughter Vivian and son Vernon.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, October 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Sumner-East Campus with Pastor Ken Hutson officiating.

Burial will be held prior at the Plainview cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the United Church of Sumner or the Homeward Trail Bible Camp at Mason City, Nebraska.

Jerry Joe Hernandez
(September 30, 1948 - September 30, 2011)

Jerry J. Hernandez, 63, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, September 30, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

He was born on September 30, 1948, in Axtell, Nebraska, to John G. & Lydia (Michael) Hernandez. Jerry attended grade school in Lexington and graduated from St. Ann’s High School in Lexington.

Following High School, Jerry worked various jobs; including, eight years at Monroe’s in Cozad. Jerry then found his calling which was working outdoors. He did yard work for Fred Hongsermeier up until the time of his death.

Jerry was a very good boxer in his younger years and won the McCook District Golden Gloves in his division. He enjoyed crocheting blankets, working puzzles, playing pool and, of course, yard work.

Survivors include his three brothers: Tom and wife Emily Hernandez of Kearney, Nebraska

Joe and wife Angie Hernandez of Lexington, Nebraska

Michael “Butch” Hernandez of Lexington, Nebraska

One sister: Josephine and husband Phillip Araujo of Lexington, Nebraska

Good Friend: Fred Hongsermeier of Lexington, Nebraska

Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Donald & John, and two sisters; Paula & Delores.

A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Reverend Matt Koperski officiating.

The Family has honored Jerry’s wishes that his body be cremated. There will be no visitation.

In Lieu Of Flowers, Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation. Inurnment will be in the St. Ann’s Catholic cemetery at Lexington.

David Ray Hodgson
(May 15, 1951 - September 30, 2011)

David R. Hodgson, 60, of rural Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, September 30, 2011, at his home.

David was born May 15, 1951, at Lexington, Nebraska to L. Arbor and Fern Iola (Bell) Hodgson. He grew up on the family farm east of Lexington and graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1969, while in high school David played football. He then went on to further his education at Kearney State College where he received his BA and Master’s Degrees in Math. Dave taught for 14 years; two years at Petersburg, Nebraska and twelve years at Callaway.

He was united in marriage to Marlene Bartels on July 26, 1985, at Hastings, Nebraska. Three sons were blessed to this marriage; Joel, Jared and Justin. In 1988, he took over the farming and ranching operation from his father. He also substitute taught for a time.

David’s life revolved around his family and he never missed a sporting event his sons were involved in. He loved his family so much and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife: Marlene Hodgson of Lexington, Nebraska

Three sons: Joel, Jared & Justin Hodgson all of Lexington, Nebraska

Two brothers: Lennis and wife Diane Hodgson of Kearney, Nebraska

Pastor Steven and wife Jeannie Hodgson of Hutchinson, Kansas

One adopted brother: Richard Hodgson of Pueblo, Colorado

Mother-in-law: Della Sergeant of Kearney, Nebraska

One brother-in-law: Merlyn and wife Pat Bartels of Upland, Nebraska

David is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cornerstone Berean Church in Kearney, Nebraska with Pastor Doug Shada officiating.

Burial will be in the Overton cemetery at Overton.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 3, 2011, from 4-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.
