Thelma Alberta Hatfield
(August 18, 1925 - September 5, 2011)

Thelma Alberta Hatfield, 86, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Monday, September 5, 2011, at Park Avenue Estates in Lexington.

Thelma was born to Myrtle Munger Kepler and James O. Kepler on August 18, 1925 near Brocksburg in Keya Paha County, Nebraska. As a child of 5 years they moved to near Bassett, Nebraska. She went to Rock County rural schools, graduating from Rock County High School in 1943. She attended college at Wayne State College and Kearney State College.

She taught school in Rock and Dawson Counties. Thelma was united in marriage to Charles E. Hatfield June 8, 1946. They lived in York, Nebraska, St. Louis, Missouri and then moved to Lexington in 1949.

Thelma was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Nebraska State Genealogical Society, DAR, and Cosmo Pals.

She enjoyed traveling and visiting with her friends and family. Thelma spent her later years living at Park Avenue Estates.

Thelma is survived by her daughter, Jo Anne Pesheck; three grandchildren; Mitzie, Alicia & Jovan and four great-grandchildren all of Washington. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son; two brothers; one sister and an infant grandson.

Thelma’s body was cremated and there will be no visitation.

A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Saturday, September 17, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood cemetery at Lexington with Reverend Tess Hufford officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.

Evelyn Helena Feist
(January 5, 1920 - September 7, 2011)

Evelyn H. Feist, 91, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Gothenburg, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney surrounded by her loving daughters.

She was born January 5, 1920, at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Harm M. and Emma (Cross) Franzen, the first of four daughters. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg where she was baptized in 1920 and confirmed in 1932. Evelyn’s faith was strong and always walked with the Lord by her side.

Evelyn graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1938. She worked for child welfare in Lexington from 1938-1940 and lived in Wyoming from 1940-1942. She then moved to Denver and worked in the Defense Plant from 1942-1945. She was united in marriage to Aloysius F. Feist in Gothenburg, Nebraska on April 17, 1943. Two girls were blessed to this marriage; Alberta Lea and Sandra Kay.

Evelyn graduated from the North Platte Beauty Academy and later opened up her own beauty shop in Gothenburg, called Evelyn’s Beauty Shop. She would operate her shop from 1957 until 1989 when she retired. During this time she also helped at McVay Mortuary and Blasé Funeral Home in Gothenburg. Upon retiring, she helped local families care for their children in their own homes. These kids were a pure joy to her and maintained contact even today. She also loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kids were her greatest joy.

She enjoyed embroidery, cross stitch and handiwork. Evelyn always enjoyed a good hand of cards and attending the community concerts with her friends after retirement. She will be so very missed. She never knew a stranger and always accepted people just as they were.

Survivors include her two daughters and their spouses: Alberta (Ron) Kearney of Sumner, Nebraska

Sandy (Chuck) Watkinson of Eddyville, Nebraska

Four grandchildren and spouses: Loretta (Keith) Anderson of Overton, Nebraska; Lynette (Buck) Dannar of Williston, North Dakota; Natasha (Phil) Hamm of Grand Island, Nebraska; Wade (Rhonda) Kearney of Sumner, Nebraska

Thirteen great-grandchildren: Tyson, Chelsey, Dawson, Quinton, Walker, Hanna, Harlee, Brandon, Elizabeth, Rachael, Christyn, Annalea & Matthew

One sister: Myra Walker of Kearney, Nebraska

Evelyn was survived by two nieces and one nephew, other relatives and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Verniece Adle and Lorraine Crawford and one nephew, Harry (Butch) Crawford.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Reverend Craig Whitson officiating.

Burial will be in the Jewell cemetery at Sumner, Nebraska.

Visitation will be Friday, September 9, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.

Harold Dale Lantz
(March 22, 1931 - October 1, 2011)

Harold Lantz, 80, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

He was born March 22, 1931, in Dawson County, Nebraska to William L. and Mabel (DeVol) Lantz. Harold was a Lexington High School graduate and worked in the welding business.

Harold was united in marriage to Clara Hemphill on December 26, 1988 in Lexington. The couple enjoyed the past 23 years of married life together.

Harold was “one of a kind”! He loved to tell stories and jokes and always had an opinion about everything! He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, cribbage, and visiting with friends at the Eagles Club or the Veteran’s Memorial Club. He drove a stock car when he was a younger man.

Survivors include his loving wife: Clara Lantz of Lexington, Nebraska

Two sons: Jeff Lantz of Chicago, Illinois

Roger and wife Trish Houser of Cambridge, Nebraska

Two daughters: Mary and husband Richard Schodorf of Wichita, Kansas

Merna Nichelson of San Diego, California

One brother: Dean Lantz of Springfield, Missouri

One sister: La Vern Bean of Elwood, Nebraska

One grandson: Zachary; six step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandsons

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mike and one sister, Mildred Phillips

Harold’s family has honored his wishes that his body be cremated.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

James Earl Jewett
(March 30, 1941 - September 24, 2011)

James Earl Jewett, 70, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011, the result of a car accident southeast of Lexington, Nebraska.

He was born March 30, 1941, at Smithfield, Nebraska to Thomas Rufus and Mary Ethel (Brown) Jewett. He attended country school at District #48 and then high school at Overton. Jim was involved in the family farm prior to and following graduation until he entered the United States Army and following his return to Nebraska.

Jim valiantly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from February 15, 1967, until his honorable discharge on February 14, 1969. He received commendations while serving in Vietnam along with being awarded the Bronze Star w/Device and the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device.

He was united in marriage to Jean Cook in February of 1968, Virginia. The couple returned to Nebraska and three children were blessed to this marriage; Jamie, Shane and Christina.

Throughout Jim’s life he was active in the farming operation, worked construction and retired from Paulsen Construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gambling, playing cards, telling stories and sharing his wonderful sense of humor.

Jim is survived by his three children: Jamie and husband Peter Celio of Woodbridge, VA; Shane Jewett and fiancée Jessica Peche of Alexandria, VA; Christina and husband James Taylor of Fredericksburg, VA..

Five grandchildren: Matthew Celio, Dominick Celio, Bianca Jewett, Shane Jewett and Jaidyn Jewett

Seven brothers: Donald and wife Belva Jewett of Holbrook NE; C. Thomas and wife Doralice Jewett of University Place, WA; Paul Jewett of Overton, NE; Roger Jewett of Forest Grove, OR; David and wife Connie Jewett of Lexington, NE; Ron Jewett of Kearney, NE; and Rod Jewett of Overton, NE.

One sister: Marie and husband Bill Peden of Orleans, NE.

Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and one brother.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Overton Christian Church in Overton, Nebraska with Pastor Will Thompson officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska.

Burial with Military Honors will be in the Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska, Friday, October 7, 2011, at 2:00 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Jewett Family for later designation.

Irdell Dona Chase
(February 23, 1923 - September 22, 2011)

Irdell Dona Chase, 88, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Lexington Regional Health Center.

Irdell was born, Dona Irdell, to Raphael and Amanda (Schmidt) Chartraw, near Cat Creek, Custer County, Nebraska on the family farm. Irdell graduated from Mason City High School in 1940. She took Normal Training after high school. Her first teaching job was northwest of Broken Bow and her last two years of teaching was north of Cat Creek, Nebraska.

She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Harold A. Chase on May 26, 1944, at the Baptist Church in Broken Bow, Nebraska. One daughter was blessed to this marriage; Barbara. Harold was stationed in Alaska during WWII. They were married when he returned home. The couple lived in Galveston, Texas for a year, where Harold was stationed and then honorably discharged.

After the service they built a home in Gothenburg, Nebraska. In 1952, Irdell was in the hospital twenty days, not expected to live. It turned out to be a ruptured appendix. Later that year she had a complete nervous breakdown and due to insulin and electrical shock treatments she was physically and mentally like a baby. She had to learn how to walk, read, write, cook and dress herself.

In 1962, the family moved to Lexington, because of Harold’s work. At that time Irdell’s name was changed for business purposes.

Irdell enjoyed being a wife and mother, taught piano lessons, did church work, was a wonderful cook, babysat, and enjoyed her garden and flowers and being outdoors. Sadly, dementia slowly took these things from her over the past twelve years.

She loved her Lord, her husband and daughter and will be so very missed.

Irdell is survived by her husband: Harold Chase of Lexington, Nebraska

One daughter: Barbara Chase of Lexington, Nebraska

Her beloved therapy dog: Benny of Lexington.

One brother: Eugene Chartraw of Ansley, Nebraska

One niece: Connie Miller of Milford, Nebraska One nephew: Mike Chartraw of Lincoln, Nebraska

Irdell was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law; an infant niece, and many aunts and uncles.

A Graveside Service will be held Monday, September 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood cemetery in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastors John Shields, Paul Pack and Paul Thomas officiating.

Visitation will be held prior to the Graveside Service from 10-11 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the Family for future designation.

Jeffrey L. Abel
Age - 41
10/23/1964 - 6/17/2006
Jeffrey Lee Abel was born October 23, 1964 in Seward, Nebraska to LeRoy Howard and Clarine Frances (Wenzl) Abel and passed away on June 17, 2006, in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 41 years, 7 months, 25 days. Jeff passed away after a courageous battle with cancer and was surrounded by his family and friends. He was a 1983 graduate of David City High School and had been employed by Illinois Foundation Seeds of Seward since November of 1986. Jeff enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR racing and riding motorcycles with his “old” buddies. Jeff was great with kids and loved taking them hunting, fishing and watching them play sports. Jeff was a member of the Seward Volunteer Fire Department and was a Hunter’s Education Instructor.

Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents and an infant brother, James.

He is survived by his fiancée, Nancy Prochaska, Friend; his parents, LeRoy and Clarine Abel, David City; sisters and brother-in-law, Dianne Abel, Lincoln, Angela and Corey Olson, North Liberty, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Jeremy and Amy Abel, David City; nieces and nephews, Heather and Jared Heins, Kassi and Caydyn Abel, Jalynn and Joselyn Olson, Chaquoya Givens and Kordell Abel; grandmother, Pert Jarrett, York; grandfather, Floyd Joyce, Bloomington, MN; Nancy’s family: parents, John and Jackie Prochaska, David City; brother and sister-in-law, Ron J. and Linda Prochaska, Dwight, sisters and brothers-in-law, Denise and Ernie Buresh, Dwight, Carol and Dean Fiala, Wahoo; nieces and nephews, Megan, Nate, and Matt Prochaska, A.J. Valerie, Chris, Jenna, Lacey, and Kelsey Buresh; Jamie, Derek, and Shauna Fiala; great niece Nicole Buresh; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family.

To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of life shared with Jeff.

Jeff’s spirit lives on through organ donation.

Lucille M. Abel
Age - 86
6/30/1920 - 7/12/2006
Lucille May Abel was born June 30, 1920 in Seward, Nebraska to Leo Arthur and Martha Ethel (Wray) Welch and passed away on July 12, 2006 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 12 days. On June 27, 1936, Lucille was united in marriage to William Rue Abel at Seward, Nebraska. To this marriage three daughters were born, Ardyce, Connie and Doris. She lived in Milford, Texas and Horton, Kansas and then moved back to Seward in 2000. She worked as a cook at Southeast Community College in Milford and at Sundermann Homes in Seward.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Arthur and Martha Ethel (Wray) Welch, husband, William “Speck” Abel, brother, Forrest D. Welch, sister, Ruth Crawford, grandsons, Kirk Wade Oldaker, Ronald Rue Oldaker, granddaughter, Terri Lynn Oldaker, great-granddaughter, Kylee Jo Pfenning.

She is survived by her daughters and spouses, Ardyce and Donald Olson of Seward, Connie and Loyd Oldaker of Powhattan, KS, Doris and Richard Jones of Horton, KS, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, brother-in-law, Marvin Hollaway of Broken Arrow, OK, sister-in-law, Eunice Welch of California, cousins, Velma Imig, Susie Alley and Millie Foster of Seward, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Lucille.

Ann Adams
Age - 67
12/12/1939 - 1/11/2007
Mary “Ann” (Lawrence) Adams was born December 12, 1939 in Seaford, Delaware to Thomas Milze and Ruth Mae (Beebe) Lawrence and passed away in Wilber, Nebraska on January 11, 2007 at the age of 67 years, 30 days. Ann's father was in the U.S. Army and the family lived in Oklahoma, Delaware, North Carolina and Virginia. She graduated from high school in Lewiston, North Carolina.

On April 21, 1960, Ann was united in marriage to Roger L. Nun in Portsmouth, Virginia. To this union seven children were born, Trenda, Roger, Randy, Jeff, Terry, Chuck and Rob. On October 17, 1985, Ann was united in marriage to Russell Adams in Seward, Nebraska. They resided in David City where Ann was employed at David Place for five years as a cook and an additional five years as a nurse aid. They moved to Seward in 1988 and Russell passed away in 1995. Ann was employed as a waitress at the Corner Cafe from 1995 until 2001, when she moved to Wilber.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ruth Lawrence; her husband, Russell Adams; her brothers, Edward, Robert and Jack Lawrence and her sisters, Barbara Marie Lawrence and Barbara Jean Lawrence.

Ann is survived by her children, Trenda and Adolph “Toad” Zabka of Wilber, Roger Nun and Randy Nun of York, Jeff Nun of Lincoln, Terry Nun and special friend, Carol of York, Chuck Nun and fiance, Holly of Henderson, Rob Nun and special friend Michelle of York; stepchildren, Chris Pool of Polk, Cheri Delsanto of Renton, WA and Curt Adams of Bonney Lake, WA; 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; sisters, Lena Manela of Norfolk, VA, Darlene Christman of Waukegan, IL, Shirley Garrett of Suffolk, VA; brothers, Richard Lawrence of Portsmouth, VA, Jerry Lawrence of Suffolk, VA; nieces and nephews, cousins; special friend, Eldon Hoosier of Wilber; former husband, Roger L. Nun of Fairmont; and a host of friends.
