Jedlicka, Robert Allen

Robert Allen Jedlicka, 66 of Lincoln, NE. Died Monday, August 31, 2009. Born at home in rural Schuyler, NE to Albert & Helen Jedlicka. His father past away when he was 4 months old. Robert grew up on a farm north of Leigh, NE. He graduated from Leigh High School in 1961 and graduated from UNL in 1965 with a Degree in Agriculture. Married his wife Penney on June 23, 1973. He worked for U.S.D.A. with Farmers Home Administration until Farmers Home merged into Farm Service Agency. Bob worked a total of 41 years. The last 20 years as Chief of Farm Loan Programs. He was dedicated to helping farmers, ranchers and especially beginning farmers. Bob’s emphasis was to work as a team with other employees, bankers and rural community leaders. Robert loved his family and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.

Sons: Jeff & Scott Jedlicka – Lincoln

Daughter & Son-in-law: Brenda and Kevin Schroeder – Ravenna, NE

Kahler, Jacob "Jake" Louis

Jacob ‘Jake’ Louis Kahler, 82, of Lincoln, died Thursday, September 24th in Lincoln. Jake was born on August 21, 1927 in Atkinson, Nebraska to Henry & Elizabeth Kahler. He was WWII Navy Veteran. He was retired from the US Postal Service and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose Club and American Lutheran Church.

Jake is survived by his wife, Nancy Kahler of Lincoln; son, Jay Kahler & wife Patty of Lincoln; sister, Elizabeth Hayes of Loveland, CO and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Reuben, Daniel & Henry Kahler and sisters, Olivia Hytrek & Lydia Bohl.

Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday at American Lutheran Church, 4200 Vine St., Lincoln, NE, with Pastor Henry Thorberg officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3-9 pm Sunday and 9am – 9pm Monday with family present from 5-7 pm at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln, NE.

Memorials are suggested to American Lutheran Church, St. Elizabeth’s Hospice or donor’s choice.

Denise K. Franks, 54 years of age of Lincoln, died Sunday, May 31st in Lincoln. Denise was an Owner-Publisher of American Classified/ Thrifty Nickel.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Strouf Sr.; parents, Kenneth & Rosemary Franks of Lincoln; brother & sister-in-law, Gary & Patty Franks of Lincoln; step-daughter, Julie Cundall & husband Mark of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; step-grandsons, Corey & Parker Cundall; step-son, Robert Strouf Jr. of San Francisco, California; nieces & nephews, Steven Franks & wife Nicole & children Kaden, Jace, & Jordyn, Ashley Franks & Brittany Franks & her 3 Collies, Haley, Addie, & Lexi. She was preceded in death by a brother Steve Franks.

Kushner, Sheldon

Sheldon Kushner, 81, of Lincoln died Thursday, September 10, 2009. The son of Dorothy and Max Kushner, he was born over his parents’ grocery store on North 27th St. on May 20, 1928.

Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Dwayne, Shirley and Gerald, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marcia, his four children Cathy, Julie, Michael and Benjamin, their spouses David Lindholm, Larry Morgan and Diane Bush, his 8 grandchildren, Dan Berchenko, Ole Hermanson, Raychel Wishart, Sara Marx, Alex Kushner, Cara Morgan, Marina and Neva Kushner, three great-grandchildren, as well as his brother Marshall and sisters-in-law Barbara and Sylvia and brother and sister-in-law David and Margot Tepperman and sister-in-law Elaine Tepperman and many adoring nieces and nephews.

Sheldon grew up in the grocery business and devoted his adult life to owning and operating the K-T Market (Hamburg, IA), King Dollar grocery (with his brother Dwayne), Lincolnland Carpet and the Royal Pawnshop, all in Lincoln. He was a lifelong, devoted member of Tifereth Israel Synagogue, serving as president from 1975 – 1978 and on the Board of Directors for many years.

He served on the school board during his years in Hamburg, Iowa. Most of his life was spent in Lincoln. His love of Lincoln led to participation in a number of organizations. He was an active member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club and served as chair of the Lincoln Children’s Zoo committee. He also served on the Community Advisory Board of American National Bank, as well as the North 27th St. Business and Civic Association. Sheldon and Marcia volunteered as escorts at Lincoln Planned Parenthood. He was a natural historian, who could tell you the lineage of businesses in most any of the older commercial buildings in Lincoln. He put his historical knowledge to work, serving on the Board of the Nebraska Jewish Historical Society. Sheldon was the long-time president of the Mount Carmel cemetery and served on the Jewish burial society. Like his father, he was a 32 Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

Sheldon loved boating, dogs and good stories.

The funeral will be held on Sunday, September 13 at 1:30 pm at Tifereth Israel Synagogue, 3219 Sheridan Blvd., in Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Tifereth Israel Synagogue, the Lincoln Center Kiwanis Foundation, or the Nebraska Jewish Historical Society in Omaha.

Parde, Meredith J.

Meredith J. Parde, 67, of Hickman died Saturday, October 3, 2009 at home with family by her side after a courageous fight with cancer for 3 ½ years.

Mrs. Parde was born Meredith JuneColeman on September 15, 1942 in Lincoln to Morris and Twila (Wooley) Coleman. She attended Leona Country School and graduated from Adams High School. Meredith was a member of the Hickman Presbyterian Church. She married Harold Parde of rural Adams, December 18, 1960.

Meredith and Harold owned and operated the Jack & Jill grocery store and meat processing plant in Hickman, NE.

After retiring, Meredith cleaned houses and enjoyed helping Harold farm. Meredith also enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, talking with people, homemaking, and spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Harold Parde of Hickman; two daughters, Sheryl Schaaf and husband, Bryan of Lincoln, Sue Dawson and husband, Reid of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Ric and Rhett Dawson; brother, Mervin Coleman and wife, Lynette of Red Lodge, MT; sister-in-law, Verna Parde of Arlington, NE; nieces and nephews, Stephanie Rice and husband, Jay of Wilmington, MA, Allison Davis and husband, Chris of Tucson, AZ, Rita Ortmeier and husband, Roger of Elkhorn, Renee Wulf of Blair and Randy Daubendiek and wife, Danelle of Elkhorn; several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Meredith was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Hickman Presbyterian Church. Pastor Robert Field will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Hickman Presbyterian cemetery.

Visitation will be 12:00P-9:00P on Monday, October 5, 2009 at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 211 East First Street, Hickman 68372.

Also on Tuesday from 9:00A-9:00P at the funeral home in Hickman.

The family will be present from 5:00P-9:00P on Tuesday to greet friends.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Cancer Society.

James "Jim" Jesse Strang

James “Jim” Jesse Strang, 80 years, formerly of Claresholm, Alberta filed his final flight plan with no return on June 5, 2009. He was born December 23, 1928 to James Laurence and Katie Maria (Nowlin) Strang on a farm in Claresholm, Alberta, Canada. Jim was an adventurer as a pilot, teacher, mechanic, businessman, photographer, musician, marksman and scuba diver. His grandfather appropriately described him as someone who fixes things. In his lifetime Jim made homes in Alberta, Ohio, West Virginia, Nebraska, New Mexico, California and Montana.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister Betty (Strang) Clarkson. His survivors include brother, Mark Strang of Fairmont Hot Springs, British Columbia; sister, Kay Rita (Strang) Kenealey of Edmonds, WA; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Rose Black, Petrolia, Ontario; son, Gordon Strang of Tucson, AZ; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy (Strang) and Robert Vincent of Westminster, CO, Noelle (Strang) and Brett Baker of Lincoln; grandchildren Jennifer Allison, Dale Wilson, Kris Black, Cherie Wilson, Mandy Wilson, Stephanie Black, Katy Black, Grant Strang, Gregory Strang, Delainy Baker and Kiernan Baker; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and close friends.

A Celebration of Life gathering is scheduled on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Adams Community Center from 3:00P-5:00P.

Allen, Margaret E., R.N., 82, Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly Golden Colorado, died Sunday, September 6, 2009, at her assisted living residence at Clark Jeary Retirement Center.

Born in Milbank South Dakota April 11, 1927; graduated from Milbank High School 1945. Nursing diploma from Presentation School of Nursing, Aberdeen South Dakota; Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Wisconsin at Madison. Career in nursing at Milwaukee Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; University of Colorado Medical Center, Denver, Colorado, and Wheat Ridge Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.

Survived by brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Douglas Allen and Jeannette, Lincoln, Nebraska; Niece Benita Fichter and husband Mark, Randolph, Iowa, and their children, Sterling, Jeremiah, Mary Amelia, and Isaac; Niece Barbara Meyers and husband John of Oak Park, CA. and their children, Jenna, Margot, and Luke; nephew David Allen, Glendale, CA., and nephew Dr. Richard Allen and wife Tammra, Sioux Falls, SD., and their son Derick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arlo R. Allen and Laura Allen, and her stepmother, Ella Allen.

Her church always much meant much to her and she was a member of Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, Lakewood, Colorado. She was a member of the Colorado Mountain Club and spent much of her spare time hiking in the Colorado Mountains, and on overseas hiking tours with the Mountain Club. Music and photography were also hobbies she pursued. And her family was always foremost in her interests.

Viewing and visitation with family will be from 5-9 pm Thursday at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln.

A memorial service will be at a later date in Milbank, South Dakota with inurnment in Milbank City cemetery.
