Eugene "Gene" Otto Matthes
passed away February 15, 2005
age 72, was born February 4, 1933 in Arapahoe, Nebraska to Paul and Ida (Hinz) Matthes and passed from this life to his heavenly home on February 15, 2005. He was baptized in the Christian faith on February 26, 1933 in Arapahoe and confirmed in that faith in 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Garland, Nebraska. Gene graduated from Garland High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1952. After his discharge from the service in 1956, he worked at Hughes Brothers in Seward for ten years and then for Brunswick Corporation in Lincoln for twenty-nine years. He had been retired since 1991. He was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
Gene married
Cora Katt December 29, 1962. Their son, Alan, was born November 25, 1963. A granddaughter, Miranda Cummings, was born January 30, 1991.
Visitation: Was on Thursday and Friday from 4 until 8:00 pm at the mortuary
Service: Funeral was held on Saturday, February 19th at 10:00 a.m.
Location: Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8701 Adams Street

Family Information: Gene is survived by his wife Cora, son Alan Matthes, Lincoln; granddaughter Miranda Cummings, Lincoln; mother, Ida, Seward; sister Pat Hakel and husband Ken, Seward; sister-in-law Doris Justus, Lincoln; brother-in-law Eldon Katt and wife Bonnie, Pleasant Dale; aunts and uncle, Buelah Matthes, Evelyn Nichols, Edith Hinz, Sonny Hinz; 8 nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Caroline Katt and brother-in-law Donald Justus.
