Gary was born in Beatrice, NE. Survivors include Wife of over 34 years Bonnie (Arrigo) Heckathorn of Lincoln. Sisters Pat Knopp and Norma Darnell both of Beatrice, NE. 9 nieces & nephews and Brother-in-law: Augie Arrigo of Lincoln.

Donald R. Patoka

Donald R. Patoka, 84, of Lincoln, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009.

He was born to Joseph and Irene Patoka on June 9, 1924 in Milwaukee, WI.

Joining Smith-Dorsey (now Novartis) of Lincoln in 1954, he later became Director of Marketing & Sales, retiring in 1983 to start his own pharmaceutical brokerage firm. Survivors include his wife, Jean of Lincoln; daughters, Carol Schieman of San Diego & Nancy Patoka of Lincoln; son, James of San Diego; grandchildren, Kim & Jeff Schieman of San Diego.

Don’s wishes were for cremation. There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2009 @ Westminister Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd, Lincoln 68502. Dr. Andrew McDonald & Rev. Ellen Davis will officiate.

Inurnment will be private in Wyuka cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church or Donor’s Choice. Butherus, Maser, and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A. Street, Lincoln 68510 is handling arrangements.

Mignon, Charles W.

Charles William Mignon, a scholar and editor of Early American literature and former professor emeritus of English at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, died on Friday, September 25 in Lincoln. He was 75 years old. Charles William Mignon, Jr. was born in Greenwich Village, New York City on December 11, 1933. He graduated from Kent School in 1952, received a bachelor’s degree in English literature form Kenyon College in 1956 and served in the Air Force from 1956-58. After receiving an MA in English form the University of Connecticut in 1959, he taught at the high school in St. Michaels, Maryland. Then, teaching as an instructor in the department of English at the University of Connecticut, he took a PhD in English and American literature in 1963. He taught at the University of Illinois (1963-67) and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln (1967-2000) from which he retired. In 1972-73 he was the Senior Fulbright lecturer in American Literature at the University of Warsaw in Poland, in 1993 received the Anis Chaikin Sorenson Award for distinguished University teaching. He received the Nicholas Powell Award from the United States Tennis Association for tennis umpiring at the sectional level. He umpired tennis matches for many years, some at the professional level. With Professor John Murphy of Brigham Young University and the editors of the Cather Project a the University of Nebraska, he received the Ralph Emerson Twitchell Award In 2000 from the Historical Society of New Mexico for the Texture Edition of Scholarly Edition Volume of Death Comes fro the Archbishop.

In addition to his wife, Mary Ann Killian Mignon, a retired secondary teacher of special education, Professor Mignon is survived by two sons: Paul Killian Mignon of Martell, NE and Edward Taylor Mignon of Azusawa, Tokyo, Japan and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to University of Nebraska Foundation. Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bob L. Kenney, D.D.S.

Bob L. Kenney, D.D.S., 78, of Lincoln, died Saturday, May 30 in Lincoln. Bob was born in Fairbury, NE on July 3, 1930 to Leonard & Jennie (Sturm) Kenney. He was a United States Air Force Veteran, retired Director of Dental Services for the Nebraska State Department of Correctional Services and a member of First Evangelical Free Church.

Bob is survived by his wife, Phyl Kenney of Lincoln; daughters, Dana Wendling & husband Bill of Lincoln and Therese Brown & husband Mike of Thornton, CO; sons, Patrick Kenney of Denver, CO and David Kenney & wife Rosamaria of Lincoln; 8 Grandchildren, Ryan & Sean Wendling, Matthew & Cory Brown, Javi & Andy Kenney and Kelcy & Keegan Workman.

He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 Brothers.

Memorial services will be 1:30 pm Wednesday at First Evangelical Free Church, 3300 South 84th, with Pastor Mark Brunott officiating. Private family burial in Lincoln Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 1 – 9 pm Tuesday @ Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home with family present from 6 – 8 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to The First Evangelical Free Church Landscape Beautification Project in honor of Bob’s love of nature or to City Impact.

Gray, Carol

Carol Gray, 86, of Lincoln, passed away Thursday (October 8, 2009) after a courageous battle with cancer. Carol was born August 8, 1923 in Minden, NE to Fred & Mabel (Petersen) Larsen, after moving to Franklin, NE for a short time, the family moved to Superior, NE in 1925. She grew up in Superior and Married Eugene Gray in 1944. They owned and operated the Dudley Hotel and Coffee Shop in Superior. In 1965 Carol moved to Lincoln, NE and started a career with Wickstrom Beauty Supply (later purchased by Peel’s Salon Services) that would span 30 years retiring in 1995.

Carol is survived by her children, Michael D. Gray and Jeanie (Jerry) Knott both of Lincoln. Granddaughters, Stacy (Michael) Jackson of Lincoln, Stephanie (David) Francl of Omaha, Jennifer (Todd) Christian of Delaware Ohio, Sara (Lance) Brown of Omaha. Great grandchildren Arabelle & Aidan Jackson, Emma & Ella Francl, Owen & Olivia Christian, Elliott & Eva Brown of Omaha. And her special friend Jack McKinney of Lincoln.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and Sister Dorothy Hinkson of Lincoln.

Earl K. (Unc) Foreman

Earl K. ‘Unc’ Foreman, 79, of Lincoln, died Saturday, June 6, in Lincoln. Earl was born on March 7, 1930 in Lincoln to Neil E. & Rose (Bauer) Foreman. Graduate of Walton High School in 1948. Married Betty J. Winget on November 6, 1948. Retired owner/operator of Foreman’s Window Service.

Earl is survived by his wife, Betty Foreman of Lincoln; daughters (spouses), Connie (Myron) Malone of Scottsdale, AZ, Wendy (Robin) Armbruster of Gilbert, AZ, Debbie (Mike) Werger of Elwood, NE, Chris (Rock) Dennis of Lincoln, Roxanne Earnest of Lincoln; sons, MSG Earl B. Foreman, serving in Iraq & Tracey N. Foreman of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren (spouses), Teresa (Darryl) Trevola of Phoenix, AZ, Stephanie (Bill) Pinella of Scottsdale, AZ, Brian (Alicia) Armbruster of Gilbert, AZ, Matt (Stephanie) Foreman of Lincoln, Mike (Chrystal Werger of Elmwood, NE, Josh (Christy) Werger of Castle Rock, CO, SA2 Cody Foreman of Texas, Pvt. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald & Leonard & nephew, Daniel.

Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday at Butherus, Maser & Love Chapel. Visitation will be from 1 – 9 pm Monday with family present from 6 to8 pm Monday @ the funeral home.

Robert G. Mercier

Robert (Bob) G. Mercier passed away June 16, 2009. Born July 22, 1930 in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Harry T. and Mable (White) Mercier. Graduate of Teachers' College High School 1949, attended UNL on a basketball scholarship, served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Bob found the career he loved on the Lincoln Fire Department and served 34 years (1956-1991) retiring as a Deputy Chief.

Bob was introduced to Marilyn Paddack at Muni Pool in 1949, they married in 1951. Devoted husband and loving father, he is survived by his wife of 57 years; daughter Diane Watson, son Mark, and son John ­and wife Peggy; grandchildren Aubrey Lee, Jessica Watson, Meghan, Drew, Tyler, Mary Kate, Gabrielle, Jordan, and Bobby Mercier; great grandchildren Brendan and Cecilia Lee; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lincoln and former trustee, former President and member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, long­time member of the American Legion Post 3, past coach for Lincoln Fire Department Midget football and Little Fry basketball, and was a referee for high school basketball for many years. Bob was a life long fan of Big Red Football and also a big fan of Husker Volleyball.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother Harry and wife Elsie, brother Paul and wife Dorothy, brother Mark and wife Helen, and sister Mary Sherwood and her husband Devere.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Saturday, June 20th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 31st & S Street, Lincoln. A Rosary Service will be at 7:00 pm Friday at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln. Visitation will be from 9am – 9pm Thursday & Friday with family members greeting friends from 6-7 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers to Sacred Heart Building Fund.

Barth, Donald B.

Donald B. Barth, 91, life long resident of Lincoln, died in Chandler, Ariz. on April 28, 2010. Don was born November 21, 1918 to Benjamin and Margaret (Yost) Barth. He married Mary Elizabeth Hester on June 2, 1939. He graduated from Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist at the family owned Barth Drug and Hardware. He was later owner of Donmar Pharmacy at 14th and South Street until his retirement. Donald was a member of Lincoln Masonic Lodge #19, Lincoln Valley Scottish Rite, Sesostris Shrine Temple and Sun Lakes Shrine Club. He was also a member of Lincoln Elks Lodge #80, Hillcrest Country Club and the Nebraska Club.

Donald is survived by his wife, Ruth G. Barth; her son, David (Janet) Bley; brother, Warren Barth; son, Donald Dean (Maureen) Barth; daughters, Lonna (Fred) Peterson and Donna (Daryl) Schoenfeld; seven grandchildren; and five great grand children. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary Elizabeth, one sister Virginia and her husband Albin Johnson and his brother's wife Mary Louise.

Visitation Wednesday 9-9 & Thursday 9-2 at funeral home. Funeral Service Thursday, May 6, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street. Officiate: Reverend Dr. Andrew L. McDonald. Memorials may be sent to Shriners Hospitals for Children or your favorite charity. Burial, Lincoln Memorial cemetery at the Barth family gravesite.

Buchenau, Robert L.

Robert L. Buchenau, 43 years of age, of Lincoln, died Friday, April 30, 2010. Member of Immanuel Church.

Survivors: Wife, Sandy; Daughters, Hannah and Hayley, at home; Father, George Buchenau of Brookings, S. D.; Step-Mother, Mardella Buchenau of Brookings; Brother, Bill Buchenau of Brookings; five nephews. Preceded in death by his mother, Roma.

Leonard C. Hladik, 90, Lincoln, died Sunday (5-2-10). Employed as; farmer, service station owner, and Public Works city of Lincoln, member Cathedral of the Risen Christ, volunteer fireman, and asst. chief. Enjoyed taking care of his lawn and gardening

Survived by: wife, Mildred; daughters, sons-in-law, Beverly and DeRoyce Polak, Valpariso, Sharon and Mark Saulnier, Lincoln, Shirley and Marvin Oberle, Eagle; son, daughter-in-law, Larry and Connie Hladik, Fremont; ten grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. Eastwood, Esther

Esther Eastwood, 96, of Lincoln, died May 4, 2010. Member First Plymouth Congregational Church for 50 years and very active with the church, Shrine Widows, Former member of Daughters of the Nile.

Survived by: Son & Daughter-in-law, William S. Jr. and Rosemary of Lincoln, Robert J. and Cathy of Waverly; Granddaughter, Lindsey Marie Eastwood of Lincoln; many nieces & nephews; life long friend, Ann Hockenbary; and other special friends at the Legacy. Preceded by: Husband, William S. Sr.; one sister & two brothers.

Parmele, Mildred A.

Mildred A. Parmele died May 5, 2010 at age 99 at Tabitha Home in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born in Brodhead, Wisconsin the daughter of Oscar and Bessie Prestegard of Owatonna, Minnesota. She married Virgil Castigliano and has three surviving sons, the Rev. Dr. Serge A. Castigliano of Putnam Valley, New York; Daniel G. Castigliano of Venice, Florida; and Richard V. Castigliano of Prescott, Arizona; 8 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grand Children, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. Married for 35 years to Pollock (Podge) Parmele, who died in 1994, thus survivors include his daughter Polly Swift of Glenview, Illinois plus four step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lincoln for over 60 years. An accomplished stenographer she worked as an Administrative Assistant for Burlington Railroad and a Legislative Assistant in the Nebraska Legislature. Member of the PEO (a professional women’s organization.)

Inurnment will be at Oak Hill cemetery, near Plattsmouth, Nebraska. A Memorial/Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for May 23 at 2:00P.M. at the Van Dorn Villa, 3001 So.51st Street in Lincoln.

Strader, Chase Gabriel

Chase Gabriel Strader was born on January 18, 2010 to Kristin (Hermsen) & Christopher ‘Chris’ Strader in Lincoln and passed away a short time later.

Chase is survived by his parents and twin brother, Carson.

Memorial services will be 10:30 am Saturday at Butherus, Maser & Love Chapel, 4040 A Street, with Father Michael Christiansen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Lincoln.

Memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Boomer Esiason Foundation.
