Thomas Boots, 30

(June 14) JAY EM, Wyo. - Thomas Andrew Boots, 30, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Regional West Medical Center at Scottsbluff. He was born May 27, 1972 at Alliance. His parents were Rich and Lucie (Jones) Boots.

He grew up on ranches near Ashby and Mullen. He attended grade school at Ashby and Mullen, and graduated from Mullen High School in 1990. In high school he was active in football and high school rodeo, and finished 11th in the nation in steer wrestling his senior year. He attended Eastern Wyoming Community College at Torrington, Wyo., and Laramie County Community College at Cheyenne, Wyo. He married Amy McManaman in 1991. They had one son. He was a member of the PRCA, NSRA, WRA, CPRA and the Wyo-Neb Ranch Rodeo Assn. He loved the cowboy life, ranching and rodeoing. He participated in ranch rodeos and was named the "Top Hand" two years in a tow at the Wyoming/Nebraska Ranch Rodeo. He was employed by the Glen Southwick Rodeo Company as a ranch hand and pickup man. He is survived by his son Chase of Pratt, Kan.; and his fiancŽe, Anna Wilson of Veteran, Wyo. He also is survived by his parents, Rich and Lucie Boots of Mullen; brother, Tony Boots of North Platte; two sisters, Tonya (Shane) Folk of North Platte and Nocona Kay Boots of Lincoln; nephews, Brendan and Brett Folk of North Platte; grandmothers Esther Boots of Ashby and Lisa Jones of Mullen; godfather, Pete Becker of Ashby, aunts Ellen (Tom White of Ashby and Linda Boots of Alliance; uncle, Rod (Mabel) Boots of Ashby; their families; and many friends throughout Nebraska and Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Richard Jones and Gerald Boots; uncle, Leroy Boots; and godmother, Lassie Becker.

Mr. Boots funeral will be at 1 p.m. MDT, Saturday, June 15, at the Lariat Auditorium at Mullen, with Rev. Linda Martin officiating. The speaker will be Larry Hutchinson. Pallbearers include Rod and Nick Schuppan, Eric McManaman, Stan Krul, Kenny Book, Ross Buckhaults, Mark Bowman and Fred Wilson. Honorary pallbearers include "All Tom's Rodeo Friends." The team and wagon will be driven by Bob Childers. Music will be provided by Howard Parker and Wayne Boots. Memorials may be made to the Chase Boots Trust Fund. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery at Mullen. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, June 14, at the Mullen Funeral Home.

William J. Iodence, 74

(June 16) ALLIANCE - William J. Iodence, 74, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Poudre Valley Hospital at Fort Collins, Colo. He was born June 27, 1928, at Alliance to Charles Gladstone and Mary (Kriz) Iodence.

On March 26, 1983, he married Jan Day in Colorado. Bill ranched all of his life. His herd of Hereford cattle had it's beginning in 1913 from his grandfather and was known as one of the top herds in the nation at that time. He was a member of the American Hereford Association, Nebraska Cattleman's Association, he had been co-owner of the Alliance Sale Barn, previous owner of the Crawford Sale Barn. He hosted 49 consecutive bull sales at his ranch. He was the proud winner of many rodeos, fishing and golf tournaments and enjoyed spending his winters in Mexico with his wife Jan. His survivors include his wife Jan; his son Tom Iodence and wife Gail of Alliance and their children, Amy and husband Brian Sherlock, Tim Iodence and great-grandson Kaleb Hudson; daughter Charlene Solberg of Alliance, her children Heath Solberg and wife Destiny, Justin Solberg and great-grandson Zane; his children's mother Evelyn Iodence of Hemingford; his stepdaughter Kelly Thompson of Fort Collins, Colo., and her children Josie, Adam, Henry, Kristi and Matt; stepson James Day of Fort Collins, Colo., and his children Daniel, Jessie and David. He is also survived by his brother Charles Iodence of Hemingford and his sister Mary Elizabeth Hollinrake of Hemingford and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 at the Bill Iodence Ranch, 6 miles north of the 16-mile corner. Visitation will be at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home at Alliance Monday until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to noon. Memorials for a scholarship for the Curtis Ag School may be sent in care of the family at 351 CR 59, Alliance, NE 69301 or given to a charity of the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nicholas J. Foote, 27

(June 16) ALLIANCE - Nicholas J. Foote, 27, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at the Box Butte General Hospital. He was born Sep. 17, 1975, at Vermillion, S.D.

He is survived by his father, Dewey Foote of Minneapolis, Minn.; his mother, Bernice Little of Rapid City, S.D.; his wife, Lisa Adair of Alliance; daughter, Tiana Adair of Alliance; and sons, Jesse Adair, Antonio Foote, and Xavier Foote, all of Alliance. Three sisters and five brothers also survive him.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the Indian Mission-Church of God, with Br. Don Mink officiating. Wake services will be Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given in care of the family at 714 Cheyenne, Alliance, NE 69301. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Christopher J. Nepper, 90

(June 17) ALLIANCE - Christopher J. Nepper, 90, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at his home. He was born August 8, 1911 at Willey, Iowa, to Christopher and Frances E. (Jasper) Nepper.

He lived in the Alliance area since 1923 where he farmed all of his life. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 20, at the Calvary Cemetery, with Fr. Bryan Ernest officiating. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Durwood J. Ellis, 76

(June 17) MEDFORD, N.J. - Durwood J. "Johnny" Ellis, died Saturday, June 14, at the Medford Care Home. He was born May 21, 1927, at Thomasville, Ga., and had lived in a retirement village at Southampton, N.J., for the last several years.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1968. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Dot of the home; son, Tim Ellis of Alliance; son Monte Ayres and Daughter Sandy Thomas of Leslie, Ark.; daughter Kitty Caracciolo of Franklinville, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a sister, Dorothy Ricks of Quincy, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Cecil and sister Christine.

Private family memorial services will be on Sunday, June 22, at Waveland, Miss. His ashes will be buried at the veterans' cemetery at Fort Dix, N.J.

Earl F. Ridgley, 96

(June 19) ALLIANCE - Earl F. Ridgley, 96, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. He was born September 21, 1904, at Vincennes, Ind. to Thomas and Eva (McCormick) Ridgley.

He married Margaret K. Kohrman on October 22, 1952, at Merna. He was in the U. S. Army for two years during World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the V.F.W., A.A.R.P., C.M.A., and a lifetime member of the Eagles.

His survivors include his wife Margaret of Alliance; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Shirley Ridgley of Aurora, Colo.; granddaughters Sarah, Lauren, and Claire Ridgley of Aurora, Colo.; brother Dexter Ridgley of Mesa, Ariz.; sister Nora Jackson of Kingman, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, one infant son, and one infant daughter.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 15, at the United Methodist Church. Reverend Mark Schutt will officiate. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church, Good Samaritan Health Care Center, or in care of the family at, 402 Mississippi, Alliance, NE 69301. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Cathy Cottrell, 54

(June 19) ALLIANCE ŃCathy Cottrell, 54, of Alliance died of breast cancer Saturday, June 16, 2001, at her home. She was born Nov. 5, 1946, at Denver, Colo. Her parents were Pete and Katherine Begler.

She was married to Ted Cottrell Sep. 28, 1966, at Commerce City, Colo. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ted of the home; three sons, Craig Cottrell of Alliance, Chad Cottrell of Lake Minatare, and Brett Cottrell of Jacksonville, Fla; and six grandchildren. She also is survived by three brothers who live in Denver.

Mrs. Cottrell's memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 21, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Father Jim Golka officiating. A Rosary and wake service will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Lena "Lee" Henderson, 97

(June 18) GERING - Lena "Lee" Henderson of Gering died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Northfield Villa Medical Center at Gering. She was born Feb. 12, 1904 at Tingley, Iowa. Her parents were Fred and Elizabeth (Shepherd) Ashenhurst.

In 1917 the family moved to Wyoming. She was married to Earl Henderson of Alliance March 28, 1952. They lived west of Alliance of the Earl Henderson & Sons Ranch until his death in 1983. She then moved to Northfield Villa Retirement Center at Gering.

She is survived by one son, Paul Morrison of Sun City West, Ariz.; and one granddaughter. She also is survived by two sisters, Henen Jones of Kennewick, Wash. And Ila Fowler of Coronado, Calif.; one step-daughter, Mary Jane Gray of Vale, Ore.; two step-sons, Jack Henderson and Bill Henderson, both of Alliance; numerous step-grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husbands Andrew Engler and Millard M. Morrison.

Cremation took place with no memorial services held at her request. Inurnment will be at Torrington, Wyo. A memorial has been established to Prairie Haven Hospice, Two West 42nd St., Suite 2300, Scottsbluff, NE 69361. Jollife Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alfred E. Krul, 82

(June 18) BRIDGEPORT - Alfred Edmund Krul, 82, of Bridgeport, formerly of Hemingford, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at the Morrill County Community Hospital. He was born May 12, 1920, at Orland, Calif., the son of Frank and Ann (Matousek) Krul.

When he was two, the family moved to Hemingford where they purchased open prairie land and constructed a two-room sod house that is still standing today. He received his education in the Hemingford Public School System. He was engaged in farming with his father until he moved to Sun City, Ariz. Due to failing health he moved to Angora to be near his brother Stanley and family. Since 1995 he has resided at the Heritage of Bridgeport. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Hemingford. He is survived by his brother Albert Krul of Salem, Mo., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Stanley F. Krul of Angora, and Frank Krul of Pasco, Wash., and an infant sister. His remains have been cremated.

A private family memorial service will be at 2p.m., Wednesday, June 19, at the Hemingford Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department. Jolliffe Funeral Home in Bridgeport is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth Paxton, 85

(June 18) ALLENTOWN, N.J. - Ruth Paxton, 85, died June 15, 2002, at her home. She was born Sept. 9, 1916, in Sheridan County. Her parents were Elzie and Christina (Hahn) Pont.

In 1924 she moved to Alliance with her family. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1934. She graduated from Chadron State College and taught in western Nebraska for several years. She was married to Homer Paxton on Dec. 6, 1944, at Planfield, Ill. She taught elementary school at Oakland, N.J. for 25 years. She was past president of the Oakland Educational Association and Oakland PTA; a member of Burgen County Educators Association, parents without Partners Chapter 552 and Ponds Reformed Church. Following her retirement, she traveled in Europe, China, Canada, Panama and throughout the United States. She is survived by daughter, Janice Paxton of Wayne, N.J.; son, Byron Paxton of East Stroudsburg, Penn.; granddaughter, Elizabeth Paxton of Alexandria, Va.; and grandson, Matthew Paxton of Tempe, Ariz. She also is survived by her sister, Christina Rusk of Alliance and brother Albert Pont of Indiantlantic, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including those in her graduating class and those she met around the world. She was preceded in death by her husband and brothers, John and Howard Pont.

Mrs. Paxton's funeral will be Thursday, June 20, at the Ponds Church at Oakland. Memorials have been established to Ponds Church or Oakland Education Scholarship Fund. The Oakland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Faye Garibay, 86

(June 19) ALLIANCE - Faye Garibay, 86, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center. She was born June 21, 1915, at Rosebud, S.D. to Howard and Lucy (Two Eagle) Little Tail.

She was a member of the Indian Mission-Church of God. She is survived by her sons, Eugene Brave Hawk of Martin, S.D., and Kenneth Yellow Eyes of Scottsbluff; daughters, Ruby Cook of Alliance, and Olivia Neal of Nashville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. Her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 22 at the Indian Mission-Church of God, with Rev. Don Mink officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Wake services will be held Thursday and Friday at the church. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert R. Finney, 68

(June 19) EDGEMONT, S.D. - Robert R. Finney, 68, died June 17, 2002, at the VA Medical Center at Hot Springs. He was born Feb. 20, 1934, at Marsland to Fay Floyd and Mildred Loretta (Bilstein) Finney.

He graduated from High School at Edgemont, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956. He served in the 82nd Airbourne Division, and was honorably discharged in 1958. He had his own business as a cement mason. He retired to Edgemont in 1994. He is survived by his daughter Theresa (Scott) Hedglin of Edgemont; and two granddaughters. He also is survived by two sisters LouJean McWilliams of Alliance, and Margaret (Jack) Bryant of Aledo, Texas A Wake Service will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, at St. James Catholic Church at Edgemont.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Thursday, June 20, at St. James Catholic Church, with Fr. Peter Kovarik officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 20, at Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis. McColley's Chapels of the Hills at Edgemont is in charge of arrangements.

Darrell Huckfeldt, 51

(June 21) HAY SPRINGS - Darrell "Stub" Huckfeldt, 51, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, as a result of a tractor accident. He was born March 7, 1951.

He is survived by his wife Jody Huckfeldt; son Aaron Huckfeldt; and daughters Nicole and Shea Huckfeldt, all of the home. He also is survived by his father Donald (Nellie) Huckfeldt of Hay Springs; sister, Cheryl (Larry) Kubo of Severance, Colo.; and brother, Dean (Vicky) Huckfeldt of Alliance.

Mr. Huckfeldt's funeral will be at 10 a.m., Monday, June 24, at the United Methodist Church of Hay Springs, with Rev. Eric Parker officiating. A College Fund Memorial is being established for his children. Donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Drabbels, P.O. Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347. Chamberlain-Drabbels Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Elisabeth Wilbrand, 78

(June 24) ALLIANCE - Elisabeth Wilbrand, 78, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Box Butte General Hospital. She was born Oct. 30, 1923, at Siegburg, Germany to Johann and Elise (Cremer) Waldorf.

She was married to Wilhelm H. Wilbrand on Oct. 25, 1951, at St. Anne Church at Siegburg. She was a member of Holy Rosary Parish, Altar Society and the famous Wednesday poker club where she played for the past 25 years. She was educated at Siegburg where she also attended business school. Her employers included the City of Siegburg, Hotel zum stern, and Chapter VI in Alliance. In 1954, she and her husband Willy, along with a six-month-old child, emigrated to the United States, arriving at Alliance on Febr. 16, 1954, where they made their lives. She is survived by her husband, Wilhelm of rural Alliance, her daughter, Ingrid and Bob Conley of Little Canada, Minn., her son Herman and Cathy Wilbrand of Alliance; grandchildren, Kristin Conley, Michael Conley, Patrick Conley, Anne Conley, Bill Wilbrand, Joanne McConkey, Elizabeth Wilbrand, Tony Wilbrand, Theresa Wilbrand, Charlie Wilbrand; and one great-grandchild, Brandon McConkey. She also is survived by a brother, Hans Waldorf of Bonn, Germany, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents and a brother, Heinz Waldorf, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 29, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Fr. Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Wake services will be at 7 p.m., Friday, June 28, at Holy Rosary Church. Memorials may be given to St. Agnes Academy Founda-tion or to a charity of the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
