Robert "Bob" Manning

Robert “Bob” Manning, 74, of Chapman, died of cancer on Friday, February 6, 2004 at Tiffany Square in Grand Island. Funeral services will be Monday, February 9th at 2: 00 p.m. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Joy Savage officiating. Burial will be in the Chapman cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, February 8th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Memorials are suggested to the Chapman United Methodist Church or to the family’s choice.

Bob was born on February 23, 1929 near Worms to Leon and Hilda (Wieck) Manning. He grew up in the Chapman area, attending Districts 2 and 3 Schools near Chapman and graduating from Chapman High School in 1947. On April 22, 1950, Bob Manning and Joan Fishburn were united in marriage at St. Paul’s English Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They farmed in the Chapman area until 1958. They moved into Chapman and Bob started Manning Construction Company and then in 1972 it became Manning-Rathman Construction Company. Bob retired in 1992.

Bob was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He served on the Chapman Town Board and played catcher on the Chapman Baseball team for several years. Bob enjoyed vegetable gardening and giving his produce away, hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing many card games with his uncles and cousins and in his later years, playing gin rummy with his card playing buddies. He was very faithful in helping many elderly friends and relatives and enjoyed visiting them. One of his greatest pleasures was having built their cabin at Willow Bend for his family and especially his grandchildren to enjoy.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joan of Chapman; three sons-Tim and Cara Manning of Grand Island; Rod Manning and Jim Manning both of Chapman; two daughters-Joyce Kresnicka of Grand Island; and Ann and Scott Hart of Grand Island; one brother-Gilbert and Lynne Manning of Grand Island; three granddaughters-Ashley and Alyssa Hart and Megan Manning; and six-grandsons-Adam Kresnicka, Josh Manning, Thomas Manning, Alex Hart, Jason and Chris Larsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son-Rex in 1967.

Warren F. Abel

Warren F. Abel, 82, of Lincoln formerly of Central City, died at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln on Wednesday, January 28, 2004. Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 10: 00 A.M. at the Central City cemetery with Rev. Joy Savage officiating. Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltfh.com. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Central City.

Warren was born in Central City on October 12, 1921, the son of Harvey D. and Edith (Peterson) Abel. He grew up in Merrick County, attended grade school at District 50, and graduated from Central City High School in 1939. After graduation, he went to work for Beach Craft in Wichita, Kansas for two years. Here he met Janice Layton of Nard in, Oklahoma. They were married on August 10, 1942 in Wichita. They returned to Nebraska in March of 1943 and Warren started farming in the Clarks area for the next ten years. He moved his family back to Central City in 1953 to farm and work for John Deere. In 1959, Warren went to work for Safeway stores, became store manager in Central City in 1967, and held that position until Safeway closed in 1982. In 1987, Warren and Janice moved to Lincoln where Warren worked in a convenience store until illness forced him to retire in 2001.

Warren was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City. He coached American Legion Baseball for many years. His greatest enjoyment in life came from his family, sports, and working.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janice of Lincoln; two sons-Dale and wife Jan and son-Larry both of Lincoln; three granddaughters-Andrea and husband Dana Wiens, Sydnie and Tobie Abel; one grandson-Nathan Abel; and great granddaughter­Madison Wiens all of Lincoln; and two sisters-Geraldine Davis of Kansas City, MO and Marilyn Nicholson of Santa Maria, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-Stuart Abel, and a grandson-Jeffrey Wade Abel.

John M. Friedrichsen

John M Friedrichsen, 97 years of age, of St. Paul, died at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul, on Saturday, January 24, 2004. Funeral services will be conducted from the Solt Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at 1: 00 P.M., with the Rev. Kenneth West officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery in Palmer, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 27th from 5: 00 to 7: 00 P.M.

John Martin Friedrichsen was born on March 13, 1906, in Merrick County, Nebraska, to Hans and Minnie (Schiebe) Friedrichsen. He attended school at the District #47 where he graduated from the 8th grade. He married Viola Fern Nedrig on January 21, 1929 in Iowa. They farmed southeast of Palmer living on the same farm for 74 years. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle. Viola died in August of 2000, they had been married 71 years. One of John’s greatest joys was playing cards, he taught his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to play pitch, and he played cards with them this past Thanksgiving.

Survivors include: one son Dean and his wife Ruth of Palmer, four grandchildren: Janice Fisher and her husband Lynn of Lincoln, Rachel Johnson and her husband Russ of Stanton, Karen Green and her husband Dewaine of St. Paul and John Friedrichsen and his wife Sue of Palmer, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one great-grandson Michael, seven brothers: Henry, William, Louis, Leonard, George, Lawrence and Virgil, and one sister Elizabeth in infancy.

Beverley C. Gustafson

Beverley C. Gustafson, 74, of Aurora formerly of Hordville, died at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln on Monday, January 26th, 2004. Funeral services will be Friday, January 30th at 2: 00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Hordville with Rev. Ralph Supernaw officiating. Burial will be in the Lindale cemetery near Hordville. There will be no visitation. Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Hordville or the Trinity Baptist Church in Lincoln.

Beverley Claire Gustafson was born on April 26th, 1929, to Reuben C. and Norma E. (Jones) Gustafson in Hordville. Because of a birth injury, she was a victim of cerebral palsy and endured surgery, a full body cast, and braces in order to be able to walk. She spent the last seventeen years of her life in a wheelchair. Beverley grew up in Hordville and attended Hordville schools, graduating from Hordville High School in 1947. She was a student at Nebraska Central College in Central City; Bethel College in St. Paul, MN; and graduated from Doane College with a degree in Sociology in 1955. Beverley had a strong religious faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hordville. Her sunny disposition and courage in facing adversity were an inspiration to many. She enjoyed music and loved to travel. Her travels took her to all of the states except Alaska.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister-Betty and James M. Barbee of Lincoln; nephews-James C. Barbee of Arlington Heights, IL; Steven and Debbie Barbee of Dover Plains, New York; Tom and Peggy Barbee of Lincoln; great nephews-James R. and Christopher Barbee of Arlington Heights, IL; Paul Barbee of Fort Collins, CO; David Barbee of Worcester, Mass.; and great nieces Lauren and Madison Barbee of Lincoln, and many other relatives and friends.

Lee Huston

Lee Huston, 81 years of age, of Central City, died at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island, on Saturday, January 24, 2004. Funeral services will be conducted from the United Methodist Church in Central City, on Tuesday, January 27th, at 2: 00 P.M., with the Rev. Savage officiating. Burial will be in the Central City cemetery. Visitation will be at the Solt Funeral Home on Monday, January 26th from 5: 00 to 8: 00 P.M.

Lealdes "Lee" Huston was born on December 6, 1922 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Walter Lee and Ruth O. (Smith) Huston. He attended school in Central City and graduated with the class of 1940 and attended the Nebraska Central College in Central City. He entered the U.S. army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1943. He started farming on the home place in 1943. He married Phyllis Aliene Barnes on November 27, 1949 in Central City and they lived on a farm northeast of Central City on the home place. In 1958 they moved ½ mile north and remained there until 1988 when they moved back to the home place. He worked for the Farmers COOP in the 1980’s and summers for Jim Zoucha in the early 1990’s. In July 1996 he moved into the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. Lee enjoyed reading and all sports.

Lee was a 50 year member of the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge # 134 in Clarks and Order of the Eastern Star Ivy Chapter # 210, Clarks.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis of Central City, children: Claudia Gaibler and husband Allen of Central City, Barbara Parker and husband Bob of Topeka, KS, David Huston and wife Lorrie of Ponca, NE, Chris Huston and wife Pat of Central City and Todd Huston of Central City, Seven Grandchildren: Joshua and Jill Gaibler, Teri, Amanda and Rebecca Satorie and Aaron, Chelsea, and Daniel Huston, Lee’s twin sister Claribel Overcash and husband Bert of Lincoln, NE, sister Phyllis Peterson and husband Vernon of Silver Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Linda Lee in infancy, in 1954.

Ethel A. Johnson

Ethel A. Johnson, 86, of Central City formerly of Marquette, died on Sunday, January 18, 2004, at the Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City. Services will be Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at 2: 00 P.M. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Monty Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Mamre Evangelical Free Church cemetery near Marquette. Visitation is Tuesday, January 20th from 5: 00 to 8: 00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Ethel was born on November 20, 1917, near Marquette, to Stephen and Anna (Anderson) Andersen. She grew up in the Marquette area and graduated from Marquette High School in 1935. On August 12, 1936, Ethel A. Andersen and Einer G. Johnson were united in marriage. They farmed in the Marquette area for 47 years, retiring in 1984. They moved to Central City and have made their home here since their retirement.

Ethel was a devoted wife and mother and her life was spent caring for her family. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Central City, she loved her flowers and did quilting in her younger years.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Einer of Central City; one daughter-Jeanette and LeRoy Kleve of Central City; one son-Larry and Gayle Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; four grandchildren-Randy and Linda Kleve of Aurora, Jon and LeeAnn Kleve of Lincoln; Amy and Roy Mathiason and Holly and Rod Mathiason both of Sioux City, Iowa; 11 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister-Lucille Nyblom of Aurora; one brother-in-law-Maynard May of Phillips; one sister-in-law-Lona Andersen of Aurora; and many nieces and nephews.

Those preceding Ethel in death include her daughter-Cheryl Ann Johnson on July 23, 1958; grandson-Mitchell Ray Kleve on January 5, 1961; granddaughter-Libby Fay (Johnson) Richards on December 29, 2003; one brother-Elmer Andersen; four sisters and brothers-in-law-Esther and Axel Person; Edith and Clarence McConnell; Erma and Clyde Travis; Lillian May; and one brother-in-law- Kenneth Nyblom.

Luke L. Luft

Luke L. Luft, 94, of Edgar, formerly of the Central City, Clarks, and Marquette areas, died at the Memorial Care Center in Aurora on Wednesday, January 21, 2004. Memorial services will be Monday, January 26, 2004 at 11: 00 A.M. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Jim Garfield officiating. Interment will be in the Central City cemetery.

Luke Leonard Luft was born on February 21, 1909, near Clarks to Henry L. and Minnie J. (Kramer) Luft. His family lived in several communities in Nebraska including Central City and Clarks. After completing his education, Luke worked as a farmer and a mechanic. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and served in the African Campaign, the European Campaign, and the Pacific Campaign. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to Nebraska and continued his work as a farmer and mechanic. In 1953, Luke L. Luft and Patty Jean Crawford were united in marriage. They farmed in the Central City and Clarks area. Luke lived for many years in Marquette, where he owned Luke’s Auto Repair and the “Town Tavern”. After his parent’s deaths in 1977, he returned to live in Central City until 1990. He then moved to Edgar to be near his daughter.

Luke was a charter member of the VFW in Clarks, he belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagle’s, and was involved in scouting with his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter-Paula Brittain and Bob Lee of Edgar; two grandchildren-Lisa Goff of Clay Center and Jerry Luft of Lincoln; a nephew-Don Lewis of Central City; two nieces-Shirley Lewis of Central City and Doris and Dean Asp of Holdrege. .

He was preceded in death by Patty Jean in 1997; his parents; and one sister-Esther Lewis.

Maxine F. Werth

Maxine Frances Werth, 84, of Aurora, died at Aurora Memorial Community Care on Tuesday, January 06, 2004. Services are Friday, January 9, 2004, at 11: 00 A.M. at the Zion Lutheran Church near Hampton with Rev. Loren Cooper officiating. Burial will be Friday, January 9th at 1: 30 P.M. at the Polk cemetery near Polk. Visitation is Friday from 9 A.M. until service time at the church. Solt Funeral Home in Hampton is in charge of the arrangements.

Maxine was born on December 17, 1919, in Polk County to Louis A. and Berdesia E. (Huddleston) Kahler. She grew up in Polk County and attended Polk County Schools. On October 7, 1942, Maxine F. Kahler and Raymond H. “Shorty” Werth were united in marriage in Lincoln. They made their home in Aurora; where Maxine was a homemaker and had worked at Aurora Memorial Hospital in the kitchen and the laundry. After the death of Raymond on April 7, 1993, Maxine continued to live in her home in Aurora.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church near Hampton and she enjoyed crocheting, making latch hook rugs, puzzles, and reading.

Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters-Carolyn Serr and LeeRay Dahlstedt of Ragan; Lois and Gary Schleichardt and Diana Britton both of Aurora; one son-Roger and Judy Werth of Hampton; sister-in-law Virginia Werth of York; 20 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.

Preceding Maxine in death were her husband; her son-Daryl; infant daughter-Nancy; three sisters-Esther Whitacre, Gladys Glasser, and Lois Lowe; and one brother-Ralph Kahler, Sr.

Martha Friesen

Henderson resident, 74

Martha A. Friesen, 74, of Henderson died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Lincoln.

She was born Aug. 29, 1926, at Chinook, Mont., to Jacob A. and Agnes (Epp) Wall. She previously worked at the Friesen I.G.A. store in Henderson in the bakery department for 20 years and was an active member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church. She enjoyed singing in the church chancel choir, loved to read and enjoyed donating her Pat Moss Prints to charity.

On Aug. 13, 1944, she was married to Leslie Friesen at Henderson.

She is survived by her husband Leslie of Henderson; two sons, Carey (Jan) Friesen and Robin (Valerie) Friesen, both of Henderson; one daughter, Vicky (Gary) Mierau of Denver; six grandchildren, Tobin Mierau of Denver and Jamie Mierau of Washington, D.C.; Andrea Friesen and Abbie Friesen, both of Henderson, Bailey Friesen and McKenna Friesen, also of Henderson; two sisters, Bertha (Willard) Friesen and Willis (Lena) Friesen, all of Henderson.. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Rev. George Kaufman officiating. Private family burial will be held in the Friesen cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Mennonite Church Chancel Choir. The casket will be closed at the mortuary but friends and neighbors are encouraged to sign her guest book at the mortuary starting after 9 a.m. Monday and then during one hour at the church prior to memorial services. Metz Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Paul E. Troester

Paul E. Troester, 87, of Hampton, died at his home on Sunday, February 22, 2004. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 25th at 2: 00 P.M. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hampton with Rev. George Damm officiating. Burial will be in the Salem cemetery near Hampton. Visitation is Tuesday, February 24th from 3: 00 P.M. to 8: 00 P.M. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hampton. Solt Funeral Home in Hampton is in charge of the arrangements.

Paul was born on May 13, 1916 in Hampton to William H. and Margaret (Bindewald) Troester. He attended rural Hamilton County School and Salem Lutheran School; then graduated from Aurora High School in 1933. On October 20, 1942, Paul entered the United States Army. He served in Australia, New Guinea, Leyte, and Japan. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1945. On March 31, 1946, Paul E. Troester and Marlene Baack were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church near Hampton. They lived on the family farm south of Hampton and farmed and operated a grade A dairy. Paul used innovative and progressive methods of farming. He retired from farming in 1982, and his son, Steve, continues the farming operation.

Paul was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hampton. Chess, golf and bowling were favorite pastimes of his. He bowled a perfect 300 game in 1975 at Mapleway Lanes in Aurora.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marlene of Hampton; three sons-David and Sharyn Troester of O’Neill; Bruce and Vicki Troester of Marsland; Steve and Debra Troester of Hampton; one daughter-Beth and Dennis Andrews of Hampton; two sisters-Louella Otto and Willa Dee and Wally Thoen both of Bellevue, WA; brother-in-law Bill Ludwig of Bremerton, WA; 13 grandchildren-Denise and Bob Litz and Aaron Troester, all of O’Neill; Will, Lane, and Kelly Troester, all of Marsland; Jenny Troester of Omaha; Jeff, John, and Joe Troester, all of Hampton; Paul Andrews of Hampton; Julie and Andy Marr of Aurora; Eric Andrews and MaryLou Andrews, both of Hampton; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters-Alice Holtmeier and Marguerite Ludwig; and two brothers-in-law – Martin Holtmeier and Don Otto.

Doris F. Johnson

Doris Frazier Johnson, 83, of Central City, died at her home on Friday, April 16, 2004. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 20th, at 11: 00 A.M. at the United Presbyterian Church in Central City with Rev. Monty Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Central City cemetery. Visitation is Monday, April 19th from 5 to 7 P.M. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City Memorials are suggested to the Tabitha Hospice or the United Presbyterian Church.

Doris Frazier was born on October 27, 1920, in Boone County to George W. and Viola (Frazier) Omer. She grew up in Nance County and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1939. After her graduation, she worked at the creamery in Fullerton. She married Harold W. Stubbe on March 24, 1940. They farmed in the Central City area. Harold died on January 25, 1953 and Doris continued to live on their farm. On November 1, 1959, Doris F. Stubbe and Morris W. Johnson were united in marriage. They moved into Central City and Doris worked at the Veterinary Clinic and also drove school bus. Morris died on January 13, 1990. Doris continued to live in Central City and spent winter months in Mission, Texas.

Doris was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Central City; the Order of the Eastern Star Arbor Chapter 200; The American Legion Auxiliary; and she was a Gold Star Mother. Golfing, bowling, quilting, and needlework were her favorite pastimes and she was a licensed pilot.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter-Barbara and Terry Moores of Mancos, Colorado; 4 grandchildren-Bill and Melissa Moates of Lincoln, JoAnn and Chris Bagley of Omaha, Dorothy Jeanne Moores of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Patrick Moores of Durango, Colorado; 5 great grandchildren; three sisters-Bobbe Omer of Las Vegas, Betty and Hugh Gibson of Omaha, Glenda and John Nelson of Fullerton; and one brother-Vernon and Donnis Omer of Norfolk, brother-in-law Dale Smith of Grand Island, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands-Harold Stubbe and Morris Johnson; her son-William L. “Bill” Stubbe; and three sisters-Mary Ann Hinrich, Georgia Smith, and twin sister Dorothy (Dickinson) Wozniak.

Doris Rose Johnson

Doris Rose Johnson, 100, of Central City, formerly of Clarks, died at Long Term Care Center in Central City on Friday, April 16th, 2004. Services will be Monday, April 19th at

2: 00 P.M. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Richard Dimond officiating. Burial will be at the Bureau cemetery at Pierce Chapel Church near Clarks. Visitation will be Sunday, April 18th from 5 to 7 P.M. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Memorials are suggested to the Bureau cemetery or the Clarks United Methodist Church.

Doris Rose was born on March 28, 1904 near Belvidere, in Boone County, Illinois to John Arthur and Matilda Agnes (Hasler ) Britton. As a small child, she moved with her parents and eight siblings to a farm near Plankington, South Dakota, then to Arkansas before coming to Nebraska in 1916. In 1922, Doris graduated from Trumbull High School, the first in her family to go to high school. She attended Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney and earned her teaching certificate. After teaching near Taylor for one year and taking one year of nurses training at the Orthopedic Hospital in Lincoln, Doris R. Britton and Linord Johnson were united in marriage on October 11, 1924 near Hastings. They moved to the Johnson farm near Clarks, where she lived for over 70 years. Linord died on April 19, 1970. In 1995, Doris moved into Long Term Care in Central City.

Doris joined the Methodist Church in 1917, she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarks, was a charter member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service—now the United Methodist Women, and she enjoyed attending church and serving in all aspects of church life. She was honored with a certificate honoring her eighty six and one half years of church membership.

Sewing, quilting, painting, and raising flowers were among her hobbies. She spent many happy hours at her easel and gave many paintings to family and friends. She enjoyed Painting, Research, and Art Clubs. She was an avid traveler and kept albums of photos, wrote summaries of her trips, and had a collection of souvenirs from her travels in the United States as well as Europe and Russia.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three children-Florence Kring of Lexington; Richard Johnson of Clarks, and LaRhue and Bill Beck of Clarks; ten grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren; one sister-Ida Clark of Hastings; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; son-in-law Glenn Kring; daughter-in-law Lorene Johnson; two grandsons-Roger Ray Kring and Glenn Johnson; four brothers-Fred, Sid, Bert, and Leslie Britton; three sisters-Elsie Britton, Hilda Wilson, and Gertrude Bauer.

Rev. J. Russell Mead

Rev. J. Russell Mead, 83, of Central City, died on Saturday, April 10, 2004, at the Central City Community Care Center. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at 10: 30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Central City with Revs. Rich and Joy Savage officiating. Burial will be in the Central City cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, April 13th from 5 to 8 P.M. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Central City.

J. Russell Mead was born on March 4, 1921 at Champion, Nebraska to Russell June and Anna Elizabeth (Hall) Mead. Russell attended grade school through tenth grade at Champion. He finished high school, graduating in 1940 from Chase County High School in Imperial, Nebraska. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Westmar College, LeMars, Iowa; and his Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Evangelical Theological Seminary, Naperville, Illinois; between 1941 and 1947. Russell attended graduate school at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln form 1947 to 1949.

Russell’s career was serving the United Methodist Church in the Nebraska Conference for 41 years, from 1945 to 1986. His pastorates included West Point from 1949 to 1955; Winslow/Telbasta from 1955 to 1963; Cozad/Eustis from 1963 to 1969; Central City/Archer Zion from 1969 to 1974; Wood River/Alda from 1974 to 1980; and Elmwood from 1980 to 1986.

He was married to Fern H. Fatka on May 6, 1945 at Jefferson, Iowa. Daughter Linda was born in 1949, and daughter Jolene followed in 1953, completing their family.

Russell’s interests included being a lover of God ’s Word, first and foremost. He was a craftsman with wood, an avid stamp collector, scientific gardener, and a lover of photography.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Fern, of Central City; two daughters-Linda and Chuck Ryan of Central City and Jolene and Ed Bantam of Auburn; five grandchildren-Jay Ryan, Nicholas and Kristen Ryan, Kali Ryan, Erin Bantam, and Caitlain Bantam; two great grandchildren-J.D. and Anastasia; three sisters-Phyllis Stinnette of McCook, Nebraska; Norma Mead of San Mateo, California; and Carol and Frank Medsker of Fort Collins, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Boyd M. Mead; and an infant brother, Corwin Enfield Mead.

Lambert Ambrose Zoucha

Lambert A. Zoucha, 81, of Clarks, died at home near Clarks on Friday, June, 14, 2002. Services are Monday, June 17th at 10: 00 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church in Clarks with Father Don Cleary officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday at 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

Prayer Vigil at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Clarks. Memorials are suggested to the family and St. Francis Hospice. Solt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lambert was born on August 13, 1920 in Merrick County, to Jacob J. and Josephine (Lassek) Zoucha. Lambert grew up in Clarks and received his education there as well. After High School Lambert moved to Buffalo, NY to work at the Experimental Department of Curtis-Wright which was an Airplane Factory. On August 20, 1942 Lambert A. Zoucha and Clara D. Zegar were united in marriage at the Immaculate Conception Church in Buffalo, NY. In 1945 they then moved back to Clarks on a farm just west of town, where Clara continues to live.

Lambert enjoyed inventing different things, along with his love for music. Lambert was able to play five different instruments including; the trumpet, clarinet, accordian, violin, and piano. Lambert was also a member of the Zoucha Polish Music Orchestra. But, Lambert’s biggest joy came with spending time with his family and grand-children.

Survivors include his wife Clara Zoucha of Clarks; three daughters-Judy Brown of Clarks, Laurie and Jim Wruble also of Clarks, and Marilyn and Rob Arnald of Grand Island; one son-Jim and Lisa Zoucha of Orchard; one sister-Marie Zoucha of Clarks; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Lambert was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Joseph (infant), Ben, and Adrian; and two sisters- Gertrude (infant) and Marcy Janovec.
