Lisa Marie "Zyweic" Hansen

Lisa Marie Zywiec Hansen, 38, of Central City, died at her home of natural causes on Tuesday, April 16, 2002. Funeral services will be Friday, April 19th at 10: 30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City with Father Nelson Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Central City cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, April 18th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City.

Lisa was born on January 27, 1964 in Fullerton to Dominic "Dick" and Mariann (Landers) Zywiec. Lisa grew up in Central City, graduating from Central City High School in 1982. After high school, Lisa attended Joseph’s School of Beauty in Hastings. In 1986, Lisa Zywiec and Joseph Hansen were united in marriage in Central City. Lisa worked as a hairstylist, she taught at Joseph’s School of Beauty, and worked as a radio DJ on Station KZEN. Lisa owned and operated Tag Team Tours and she and her mother were guides for tours to Fort Randal. Most recently Lisa and her fiance worked together as professional truck drivers.

Lisa was baptized, confirmed, and was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed music, horses, she was an artist, and had been a foster mother. Lisa and her mother co-authored two books--"Casino Almanac" and "Casino USA".

Survivors include her son Tyler Hansen of St. Paul; her parents Dick and Mariann Zywiec of Central City; her fiance Richard Czubachowski of Central City; two brothers-Mike and Jonita Zywiec; Rick and Candy Zywiec both of Central City; one sister-Chris and Greg Wendt of Doniphan; four nieces; one nephew; step-daughter-Sarah Hickman of Ft. Stewart, CA; and five aunts-Frances Beck of Central City; Theresa Henry of Omaha, Cecelia Szelag and Mary Ann Dufek both of Columbus, and Dorothy Fendrich of Oregon; five uncles-Leo Zywiec of Fullerton; Lavern Landers of Central City; Raymond Landers of Ashton; Wesley Landers of Westminister, CO; and Eldon Landers of Highland Ranch, CO.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Marguerite Jane Davis

Marguerite Jane Davis, 75, of Grand Island, died at the Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Grand Island on Monday, April 1, 2002. Services are Thursday, April 4th at 10: 00 a.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Sister Mary Arie officiating. Burial will be in the Fullerton cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Marquerite was born on August 19, 1926 in El Paso, Texas to Walter H. and Edna M. (Ahr) Anderson. She was raised in El Paso and graduated from El Paso High School.

On February 18, 1949 Marguerite Anderson and Charles H. Davis were united in marriage in El Paso. They lived in El Paso and in 1963 they moved to Sante Fe, New Mexico. They lived in Del Norte, Colorado from 1976 until 1989 when they returned to Sante Fe. In 1994, they moved to Hordville and then to Merrick Manor in Central City in 1995. Both Charles and Marguerite then moved to the Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Grand Island. Charles died on July 4, 1999.

Marguerite had been a Girl Scout leader and she enjoyed gardening and raising roses.

Survivors include two daughters-Vickie Gress of Aurora and Charlene (Brian) Stephenson of Alliance; three sons-Charles Davis, Jr. of Alamosa, CO; Kenneth (Cindy) Davis of Albuquerque, NM; and Jeffrey (Barbara) Davis of Russellville, Alabama; two brothers-Roy (Mary) Anderson of Reno, Nevada and Donald (Sara Jane) Anderson of Thornton, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and one great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson-Brian Gress; and two brothers-Paul and Walter Anderson.

Wilbur "Casey" Jones

Wilbur Harding "Casey" Jones, 79, of Grand Island formerly of Central City, died on Tuesday, September 18th at Bryan LGH in Lincoln. Memorial services will be Saturday, September 22nd at 11 A.M. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Kenneth West officiating. Interment will be in the Central City cemetery.

Casey was born on May 23, 1922 in Marquette, Nebraska to Arthur and Elizabeth (Nelson) Jones. Casey received his education at Marquette, graduating from Marquette High School in 1942. He then entered the United States Coast Guard Amphibian Unit in 1942 and served in the South Pacific during WWII. After his discharge in 1945, Casey returned to Nebraska. On June 19, 1949 Wilbur H. "Casey" Jones and Gloria J. McMahon were united in marriage in Central City. Casey worked for Hesselgesser Station and Olds Dealer until December of 1971. They then moved to Grand Island and purchased the service station at Second and Cedar Street. They sold this business in 1979.

Casey and Gloria enjoyed touring the United States by motorcycle. He also worked part-time for

Red Rooster, retiring for a second time in 1992. At this time, he underwent a series of procedures for his heart, but his love for traveling did not go away. They then began traveling by motor home and lived their winters in Florida and other parts of the south.

Casey was a member of American Legion Post 6 in Central City, the VFW in Grand Island, the Fraternal Order of Eagle’s, and Motorcycles of America-BMW Organization. Casey never knew a stranger, he loved to talk about motor information and auto mechanics. He enjoyed restoring anything from his Mother’s home to a ‘67 corvette.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Grand Island; two sons-David Arthur Jones of Winston-Salem, NC and Vance Andrew Jones and wife Joanne of Birmingham, AL; two daughters-Georgia Beth Burch of Tampa, FL and Angela Jewell and husband Robert Snow of Tampa, FL; one sister Darlene (Milton) Suck of Palmer; and 9 grandchildren.

Casey was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister-Lucille, and sister-Jewell Gregg; two grandchildren-Dara Burch and Casey Snow.

Glen Carlson

Glen L. Carlson, 79, of Aurora formerly of Hordville, died on Sunday, September 2 at the Memorial Long Term Care in Aurora. Services will be Wednesday, September 5th at 10: 00 a.m. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Melvin Loge officiating. Burial will be in the Hordville cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, September 4th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Glen was born on November 2, 1921 near Hordville to Arvid E. and Clara (Ortegren) Carlson. He received his education at Districts 61 and 94 in Hamilton County. After completing his education, Glen farmed with his father. Glen married Evelyn L. Reed of Aurora on January 17, 1943. They were married in Aurora. After their marriage, they continued to farm and raise three sons in the Hordville community. In 1961, Glen went to work for the Farmers Co-op Association at the elevator in Hordville. He remained with them for twenty-five years, retiring in 1986. After his retirement, Glen worked for area farmers and at the Aurora Mall. Glen lived all of his life in the Hordville community, until moving to Memorial Long Term Care in June of 1994.

Glen attended the Mamre Evangelical Free Church near Marquette all of his life. He served on the District 61 school board, was a 4-H Leader with the Busy Beaver Beef Club, and was a volunteer fireman for the Hordville Volunteer Fire Department. Glen was Santa Claus for the Hordville community for many years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting; and by allowing neighborhood children to go with him, he gave them an opportunity to share in these sports.

Glen is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Aurora; three sons-Dale and his wife Pat of Central City; Larry and his wife Karen of Basset; and Don and his wife Cheryl of Hampton; seven grandchildren-Ron and Krista Carlson, Tami and Dan Scamehorn, Mike and Teri Carlson, Laurie and Jesse Plock, Chad Carlson, Wendy Carlson, and Heather and Brian Hauptman; and ten great grandchildren; one sister-Erma Habe of Ravenna and one brother-Gerald Carlson of Lincoln; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.

Velma Sandell

Velma I. Sandell, 88, of Polk, died at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln on Wednesday, October 3, 2001. Services will be Saturday, October 6th at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Polk with Rev. Roger Burke officiating. Visitation is Friday, October 5th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Polk. Burial is in the Lindale cemetery near Polk. Memorials are suggested to the Gideon’s International or the Polk Senior Center.

Velma was born on October 7, 1912, in Valley County to Charles R. and Grace I. (Gustafson) Leach. She grew up in the Hamilton County and Polk County area, and graduated from York High School in 1930. After graduation, she taught for two years at District #74 in Hamilton County and one and a half years in Valley County. On March 25th, 1934, Velma I. Leach and Elwood M. Sandell were united marriage at her parent’s farm in Hamilton County. After their marriage, Velma and Elwood made their home in the Polk area where they farmed. Mr. Sandell died in January of 1999 and Velma moved to Lincoln later that year.

Velma is a member of the First Baptist Church in Polk, she served in the Sunday School as the treasurer and as a teacher, and belonged to the Mission Circle of the church. She was also a charter member of the Gideon Auxiliary and enjoyed reading.

Survivors include one son Kendall and wife Cindy Sandell of Polk; three daughters-Mary Lou Sandell and Carmen Sandell both of Lincoln; and Joan and husband Jerry Jones of LaVista; two brothers-Kenneth and wife Gwen Leach of Ord; and Dale and wife Ernestine Leach of Loveland, Colorado; four grandchildren-Kristina, Kerri, Shawn, and Ryan; and one great grandson-Jeffrey Tuzzio; sister-in-law Mamie Leach of Grand Island; and brother-in-law Robert Tupper of Purcell, Oklahoma.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, one brother-Virgil Leach; and one sister-Blanche Tupper.

Anthony "Tony" Koenig

Anthony "Tony" Koenig, 45, of Englewood, Colorado, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 20, 2001, in Walden, Colorado. Memorial services will be Saturday, October 27th at 11: 00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Englewood, Colorado. Graveside services will be on Thursday, November 1, 2001, at 11: 00 a.m. at the Central City cemetery with Ellen Campbell officiating. Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of local arrangements.

Tony was born in Abilene, Texas, on April 24, 1956 to John and June (Kirby) Koenig. He received his education at schools in Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Gillette, Wyoming where he graduated from high school in 1974. He attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and received his degree in Engineering in 1979. Anthony Koenig and Janet Prochaska were united in marriage on December 22, 1979, the same day they both graduated from college, in Omaha. They moved to Green River, WY for a short time where Tony was employed with Petroleum Production Equipment Services before moving to Englewood, Colorado. In Englewood, he was presently an Independent Contractor working for Lynch Management Services.

Tony was a member of IADC and SPE. Among his hobbies were ATV’s, motorcycles, woodworking, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Koenig of Englewood; three children-Sydney, Evan, and Jesse Koenig at home; his parents John and June Koenig of Green River, WY; one sister Kathaleen and husband Rod Rathbun, of Omaha; and parents-in-law Jay and Billie Ruth Proschaska Gee of Central City.

Hazel Dittmer

Hazel H. Dittmer, 99, of Clarks, died on Wednesday, November 21st at Long Term Care in Central City. Services will be Monday, November 26th at 2: 00 p.m. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Valjean Warman officiating. Visitation is Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Clarks cemetery.

Hazel was born on June 1, 1902 in Fairfield, Iowa to Frank L. and Jennie (Dana) West. When she was a young child, she moved with her family to the Clarks, Nebraska area. She attended District 25 School, graduated from Clarks High School in 1921 and attended Kearney Normal Training for one year. Hazel taught for two years in rural country schools. On March 1, 1923, Hazel West and Fritz Dittmer were united in marriage in Central City. They made their home in the Clarks area where they farmed until retiring. They then moved into Clarks. Mr. Dittmer died on September 9, 1978. Hazel continued to live in Clarks until moving to Central City to live with her daughter. In September, she had moved into Long Term Care in Central City.

Hazel enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and raising her chickens.

Survivors include one son-Kenneth and Delores Dittmer of Clarks, one daughter-Wilma Didier of Central City; one sister-Mary Burruss of Clarks; 7 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson, Larry Didier.

Lena Mae Blase

Lena Mae Blase, 72, of Hordville, died on Tuesday, November 27th at Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Services are Friday, November 30th at 2: 00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk with Rev. Kurt Letcher officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, November 29th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Polk.

Lena Mae was born on September 17, 1929, in York County to Martin and Alice (Wurtz) Baack. She grew up in Polk County and graduated from Polk High School in 1947. She taught at a rural Polk County School in 1947-48. On November 23, 1948, Lena Mae Baack and Ervin Harold Blase were united in marriage at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk. They lived and farmed in Hamilton County near Hordville their entire married life. Ervin died on March 18, 1988. Lena Mae continued to live on the farm until her death. In 1988, she began working at Smith’s True Value in Hampton and continued to work their until this past summer when she was forced to retire due to ill-health.

Lena Mae was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church on September 29, 1929 and was an active member of the church throughout her life. She also belonged to the Ladies Aide Society. Lena Mae was a member of the Merry Mother’s Extension Club, she enjoyed quilting and all types of handwork, gardening, flowers, and collecting dolls of all kinds.

Survivors include two sons and their wives-David and Betty Blase of Lincoln; Paul and Jean Blase of Hordville; one sister-Louise Reetz of Lincoln; one sister-in-law Joyce Baack of Polk; five grandchildren-Jason Blase, Ryan Blase, Aaron Blase, Melissa Blase, and Laura Blase; many nieces and nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

Lena Mae was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson-Matthew Blase; and one brother Robert Baack.

Carl Chader

Carl Yngve Chader, 83, of Aurora formerly of the Hordville area, died at Hamilton Manor in Aurora on Tuesday, November 20, 2001. Services will be Wednesday, November 28th at 2: 00 p.m. at the Mamre Evangelical Free Church near Marquette with Rev. Don Olson officiating. Burial will be in the Mamre Church cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, November 27th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.

Carl was born on June 21, 1918 near Hordville to Otto Seth and Ingeborg (Johnson) Chader. He attended District 94 school in Hamilton County and graduated from Hordville High School. Carl then attended Nebraska Central College and went on to teach two years at District 74 and one year at District 94. In 1940, he went to California and worked for Lockheed for two years before entering the U.S. Army Air Corp on November 5, 1942. Carl served as an airplane mechanic and navigator until his discharge on December 16, 1945. Carl returned to Nebraska and farmed in Hamilton County until his retirement in 1995.

Carl was a member of the Mamre Evangelical Free Church and the Modern Woodman of Hordville. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and hunting. Carl faithfully cared for his mother until her death.

Survivors include one brother-Evvard Chader of Central City; one sister-in-law-Eileen Chader of Hampton, one brother-in-law-Arnold Jensen of Aurora; five nieces-Opal Christensen of Lincoln; Colene Andersen of Omaha; Pauline Quiring of Hampton; Adell Woodson of Bena, VA; and Tena Comer of Hordville; and one nephew-Harold Chader of Minneapolis, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters-Deborah Jensen and Vivian Chader; one brother-Delane Chader; one niece Sandra Schnabel and one nephew Terry Chader.

Reuben Anderson

Reuben Oscar Anderson, 76, of the Polk and Clarks area, died at the Madonna Center in Lincoln on Tuesday, May 15th. Services are Saturday, May 19th at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clarks with Father Don Cleary officiating. Burial will be in the Polk cemetery. Visitation is Friday, May 18th at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clarks from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Vigil at 7: 00 p.m.

Reuben was born on December 17, 1924 in Polk County to Oscar Siegfred and Clary Helena (Ostedt) Anderson. Reuben attended Polk County rural school and Polk High School. After completing his education, Reuben helped on the family farm. On November 22, 1947, Reuben O. Anderson and Rose M. Beck were united in marriage at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clarks. They farmed in Polk County. Reuben retired in 1989, but continued to help his sons with the farming operation.

Reuben was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clarks. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He went to Canada for many years on fishing trips and to Alaska on fishing trips for several years. Reuben also enjoyed playing cards, but his main focus in life was his family and friends.

Reuben is survived by his wife, Rose of Clarks; two sons-Dennis and wife Jeanie Anderson of Polk and Larry and wife Debra Anderson of Clarks; two brothers-Leonard and wife Caroline Anderson of Polk and Eric LeRoy "Lee" Anderson of Phoenix; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-Harold Anderson, and one grandson-Trevor Anderson.

Alice Hilder

Alice Lorraine Hilder, 80, of Central City, died at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City on Saturday, May 26th. Services are Wednesday, May 30th at 10: 00 a.m. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Rich Savage officiating. Burial will be in the Central City cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, May 29th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alice was born on January 30, 1921 in Oketo, Kansas to John and Sue Brucker. She received her education in Marysville, Kansas. On January 28, 1939, Alice L. Brucker and Harold R. Hilder were united in marriage in Clarksville, Iowa. They began their married life in Lincoln, they then moved to Charles City, Iowa and came to Central City in 1950. Harold was in the implement business and Alice began her lifelong hobby of baking. Alice baked goods and decorated cakes for all occasions that were enjoyed by virtually all people living in the Central City area and beyond. Harold died on May 21, 2000.

Alice is survived by one son- Bob and wife Judy Hilder of Central City; one daughter-Lorraine and husband Larry Barnes of Grand Island; daughter-in-law Debra Hilder of Central City; twin brother-Alphus Brucker of Marysville, KS; and one sister-Arlywene Davis of Arizona; 7 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by one son-Kenneth G. Hilder in 1984; two daughters-Betty Ann Rutherford in 1977 and Patty J. Steele in 1996; one granddaughter-Julie Hilder; one great grandson-Joshua Willmert; and several brothers and sisters.
