Thomas Turnbull, Jr., 70

(June 30) CHADRON - Thomas D. Turnbull, 70, died Nov. 20, 2000, at Ft. Myers, Fla. He was born Feb. 16, 1930, at Washington, D.C. He served in the U.S. navy.

He married Lillian Fenton. She died in 1983. In 1971, the couple moved to Chadron where he was employed as a teacher at the Job corps for 12 years. In 1983, he moved to Florida to be closer to family members. He is survived by two daughters, Robin Eitler of Alliance and Barb Glenn from Alabama; five sons, John Turnbull of Lincoln, Billy Turnbull of Ft. Myers, Fla., Roy Boswell from Virginia, Ronald Boswell from Maryland, and Tom Turnbull III from Alabama; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by three sisters, Betty Purner and Joyce Spencer from Florida, Barb Reeves of Cleveland, Ohio.

Mr. Turnbull's graveside service for family and friends will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron. Chamberlain Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Jackson, 67

(June 30) SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. Ñ Nancy Lee Jackson, 67, died Thursday, June 26, at Sun City, Ariz., following a brief illness. She was born June 19, 1936, at Rushville, to Howard and Anne Belle (Christensen) DeWitt.

She was married to Larry Heiting Jensen on Dec. 28, 1954 at Hay Springs. They had one daughter, Michelle. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1958. She was married to Brian Jackson on Nov. 27, 1998, at Scottsdale. She is survived by her husband, Brian of Scottsdale; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Allen Anderson of Phoenix, Ariz.; sons Todd Lee VanBuskirk of Mesa, Ariz., and Christopher Laird and daughter-in-law Polly Lauber of Mackelsfield, Chetshire, England; and several grandchildren. She also is survived by her father, C. Howard DeWitt of Alliance; brother and wife, Howard Stuart and Nancy DeWitt of Frisco, Texas; sister and husband Joyce Anne and Larry Butzine of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother.

Memorial services will be Saturday, July 5, at Scottsdale.

Joy Ushio, 89

(June 30) ALLIANCE - Joy Ushio, 89, died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Box Butte General Hospital. Joy T. Ushio was born June 6,1914, at Emmett, Idaho. He was the eldest son of Taka and Shigeo Ushio, immigrants from Fukuoka, Japan.

The family worked in the laundry business in various towns in Idaho and Salt Lake City before moving to Alliance in 1930, when they purchased the Alliance Cleaners. Joy graduated from Alliance High School in 1932, and helped in the family business. After his father died in 1939, Joy continued to operate the Alliance Cleaners. On Jan. 28, 1950, he married Betty Baker of Valentine at the Presbyterian Church at Sterling, Colo. He and Betty worked together at the cleaners until their retirement in 1997. He was President of the Nebraska/Iowa Drycleaners Association and a longtime member of the National Fabricare Institute. His community service involvement included Kiwanis International, of which he was a fifty year member and past president. A Thirty Second Degree Mason, Joy was a member of the Scottish Rite, Tehama Temple, and was a Charter Member of the Cattle Capital Shrine Club. He remained a faithful and active member of the Masonic Order all his life and received his 50-year membership pin in April of2002. Joy was also a member of the Alliance Elk's Lodge. Joy is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; brother Sam and wife Sai Ushio of Alliance; sisters Rose Ikuta and husband Nobo of Los Angeles, Calif., and Irene Koseki and husband William of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Gary and wife Joanne Langford of Beatrice; two daughters, Kim Reif and husband Jim of Alliance, and Tami Ushio of Lusk, Wyo.; grandchildren, Chad and Corey Langford of Omaha, and Les1ie and Tannis Reif of Alliance; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Joy Langford. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and sister, and infant daughter, Joyce Ann.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Cattle Capital Shrine Club for the Shrine Children's Hospital, to the family for a college education fund for Joy's grandchildren, or the Box Butte General Hospital Dialysis Unit. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 7, at the United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jerry Mercer officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

George Bakogianis, 88

(July 1) ALLIANCE - George W. Bakogianis, 88, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. He was born August 8, 1913, at Fremont, to William and Ada (Lindblade) Bakogianis.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from the Nebraska Department of Roads after 30 years of service. He also worked for many years at the ticket booth of the Alliance Theatre. He was a member of the Eagles. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, William Shores, Robert Shores and Donna Shores of Alliance, Ada Bakogianis and Louis Bakogianis of Denver, Colo.; great-niece Brandi Shores of Rapid City, S.D.; great-nephew Brian Shores of Alliance; and sister-in-law Ann Bakogianis of Denver. He was preceded in death by brothers Louis and John, sisters Marjorie Shores, Elaine Day and Christina Bakogianis.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 2 at the Alliance Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Floyd officiating. Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Health Care Center. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard A. Wright, 63

(July 1) ALLIANCE - Leonard A. Wright, 63, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Box Butte General Hospital. He was born August 29, 1938, at Montrose, Mich., to Harwin and Evelyn (Sisco) Wright.

He is survived by his son, Leonard Wright of Alabama; daughters, Mary Tucker of Georgia, Jennifer Styles of Alabama, and Laurie Krebs and Shelly Krebs, both of Alliance; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He also is survived by brothers, Lester Wright of Washington, Neil Wright and Bobby Newvine of Michigan, and Terry Newvine of Florida; and sisters, Joann Clark of Wisconsin, and Norma Fischer of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wayne, and a son, Norman.

No services are planned at this time. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Morgan Neidert, Infant

(July 2) CRAWFORD - Morgan Kay Neidert died June 29, 2001 at Chadron Community Hospital. She was born June 29, 2001 at Chadron. She is survived by her parents Del and Dawn Neidert, and one sister Desiree Neidert all of Crawford.

She also is survived by her grandparents, Vicki Gilliam and Douglas Errington, both of Crawford, Don and Sharol Neidert of Whitney, and Tommy Gilliam of Gordon; and great-grandparents, Marvin and Ruby Rising and Darlene Shoop, all of Crawford.

Miss Neidert's funeral will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 3, at Crawford Cemetery, with Rev. Tim Pratt officiating. Burial will be in the Crawford Cemetery. A memorial has been established. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, 607 Fourth St., Crawford, NE 69339. Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford is in charge of arrangements.

Ferne G. Morrow, 105

(July 2) ALLIANCE - Ferne G. Morrow, 105, died Monday, June 25, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. She was born Ferne Georgia Cosslett May 12, 1896, at Billings, Mont.

She was married to Floyd Morrow at Sheridan, Wyo. The couple soon moved to Chicago, Ill. Following their retirement, the couple moved to Alliance to be near relatives. She is survived by two cousins, Shirley Rothwell of Arthur and Robert Coleman of Casper, Wyo.; and two nieces of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband and her only son, Vernus.

Cremation has taken place, and the ashes will be inurned at Chicago. A memorial service will be held by relatives July, 5, at Daniel, Wyo.

Walter Mischnick, 96

(July 2) ALLIANCE - Walter August Mischnick, 96, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at Box Butte General Hospital. He was born March 22, 1907, at Omaha, to John and Louise (Knees) Mischnick.

On June 6, 1933, he married Hilda Probst at Pickrell. They moved to Alliance in 1940. Walter was a long-standing member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he held a number of church offices. Walter left a legacy of commercial and public buildings and private residences through his contracting business. During his career he was a member of the Association of General Contractors and at age 96, he was the oldest inactive member. Walter served on the Alliance City Council from 1963 to 1972 including serving as mayor form 1967 to 1969. He also served for 20 years on the governing board of St. Joseph's Hospital/Gerontology Center. He was also a charter member of the Alliance Development Corporation and a board member of many years. He is survived by his special friend, Peg Dobson of Alliance, his two sons and two daughters and their spouses, Ron and Marlene Mischnick; Wally and Jody Mischnick; Marge and Bill Koester of Alliance, and Carol and Ken Seger of St. Louis, Mo. In addition he was most proud of his nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He also is survived by his brother Al of North Little Rock, Ark., and his sister Esther Mischnick of Syracuse. He was preceded in death by his wife Hilda, his daughter Ellen Elaine Mischnick and his son Paul Walter Mischnick.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Revs. Martin T. Schnare and Richard C. Mueller officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sand Hills Samaritan Assisted Living, Senior Nutrition Center or to Prairie Haven Hospice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd A. Landreth, 77

(July 3) CHADRON - Lloyd A. Landreth, 77, died Monday, July 2, 2001,at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born July 25, 1923 at Valentine. His parents were Alva and Eva (Pollen) Landreth.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha Landreth of the home; two sons, Larry Landreth of Chadron and Rudy Landreth of Merrill;two daughters, Virginia Popp of Gering, and Bernita Kleensang of Hay Springs; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also is survived by three brothers, Floyd Landreth of Hay Springs, Albert Landreth of Rushville, and Vern Landreth of Gordon; and three sisters, Barbara Krotz of Rushville, Grace Cerny and Ethel Blair of Clinton.

Mr. Landreth's funeral will be at 10 a.m., Friday, July 6, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Chadron, with Pastor Bruce Baum officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery at Chadron. A memorial has been established. Donations may be sent to First National Bank, Chadron, NE 69337. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Clark, 59

(July 3) CHADRON - Elizabeth Anne Clark, 59, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at her home in Washington, D.C. She was born Oct. 5, 1941 at Portsmouth, N.H.

She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and Mount St. Mary's College at Hookset, N.H. She was married to Franklin W. Clark, formerly of Chadron, Aug. 14, 1964, at New London, Conn. She was active in community affairs. She was the daughter-in-law of Veree Clark of Chadron, and was a frequent visitor to Chadron in the past 37 years. She is survived by her husband, Franklin, of the home; and two daughters, Laura Clark of Blacksburg, Va. And Lisa Clark of Leonardtown, Md. She also is survived by her mother, Doris McClintock of Judson, Fla.; and one brother Paul McClintock of New Port Richey, Fla.

Mrs. Clark's graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 7, at Greenwood Cemetery at Chadron. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.

Fredrick R. Albert

(July 3) RAMONA, Calif. - Fredrick R. Albert, 76, of Ramona, Calif., passed away Sunday, June 30, 2002. He was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Lincoln.

He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Wars as a Chief Petty Officer. He retired from the Naval Reserves after 20 years of service to his country. His career with the CB&Q, the Burlington and the Burlington Northern Railroads spanned over 30 years. He retired in Alliance as a Master Mechanic. After retiring, he purchased Railway Car Repairs in Scottsbluff and consulted with the railroads for five years. Fred loved to travel and saw much of the world through his Naval Service and with his family and numerous friends. He chartered the first chapter of Toastmasters in Lincoln in 1961. His mechanical ability was almost as good as his sense of humor and exceeded his golf game but not his love of the sport. His family and many dear friends will dearly miss him. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Corinne Albert; sister, Jean Gilbert; children, Michael and Peggy Albert, Julie Albert and Mike Cearlock; grandchildren, Daniel and Matthew Albert and Sharon Cearlock; two nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Jane E. Albert (nee Simpson), his parents John Roy and Katherine "Katie" Albert, sister Grace Kalsbeek, and grandson, Thomas Cearlock.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the San Diego County Library, Ramona Branch, 1406 Montecito Rd., Ramona, CA 92065. Fred's family extends a special thanks to Lieutenant Darrell Pena of the San Diego County, Ramona fire Dept. and the nursing staff at Pomerado BMU in Poway, Calif., for the care and support he was given.

Wanda West

(July 6) PINE GROVE, Calif. - Wanda West died July 3, 2001, at Pine Grove, Calif. She is survived by her husband, former Alliance resident Rodney N. West; several children and relatives, including her sister-in-law, June Bullock of Alliance. Mrs. West's funeral will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, at Mt. Zion Assembly of God Church at Pine Grove. Condolences may be sent to the family at 12805 Eldel Road, Pine Grove, CA 95665.

Dorothy Ella Krebs, 73

(July 7) ALLIANCE - Dorothy Ella Krebs, 73, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Box Butte (July 7) General Hospital in Alliance. She was born Dec. 8, 1927, at Chamberlain, S.D. to Francis Joseph and Ella Charlotte (Church) Krebs.

She attended St. Agnes Academy and graduated from Alliance High School in 1946. She worked as an Operator for the Bell Telephone Company retiring after 37 years. Her survivors are her brother and sister-in-law, Don and Lois Krebs of Troutdale, Ore.; sister, Leona Weed of Alliance; sister-in-law, Mary Krebs of Alliance; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents, a brother Dick and a sister Darlyn, preceded her in death. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Bell Telephone Pioneers.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Vince Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Wake services will be at 7 p.m., Monday, July 9, at the church. Memorials may be given to the church. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Frances E. Ware Huls, 85

(July 7) CHADRON - Frances E. Ware Huls, 85, died Wednesday, July 4, at Crestview Care Center in Chadron. She was born Dec. 16, 1915, at Larned, Kan. Her parents were William and Etta (Cook) Ware.

She was married to Donald Huls on Jan. 30, 1938, at Lawrence, Kan. Mr. Huls died Jan. 30, 1999. She was a member of Friends of the Library, Alpha Delta Pi sorority and PEO. She is survived by sons Francis D. Huls of Chadron and David Huls of Redmond, Wash.; daughter Cindy Gorr of Sammamish, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Huls' memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Congregational Church of Chadron, with Pastor Russ Seger officiating. Burial will be in Chadron's Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Friends of the Library, in care of First National Bank of Chadron. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
