Agnes F. Tietmeyer

York resident, 90
Agnes F. Tietmeyer, 90, of York died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002 at York.

She was born on a farm near Waco on Sept. 28, 1911, to Fred and Wanda (Bulgrin) Schwarting. Agnes graduated from Waco High School in 1929 and the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in York in 1932 when she began her nursing career at Lutheran Hospital in York. She was married to Herman F. Tietmeyer Jr. at Waco on Oct. 7, 1934, and they lived and farmed near York until moving to York in 1967.

Agnes worked as a nurse until she began her family and then returned to York General Hospital in 1961 and then York Medical Clinic where she worked until her retirement in 1976.

She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of York where she was active in many church activities including LWML, Circles and Bible Study. Agnes enjoyed traveling, her many card clubs, and senior water exercises. She remained active in her nursing associations.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley and husband Lee Alberts of Sutton; her son, Boyd and his wife Pamela Tietmeyer of York; five granddaughters and husbands, Stacey and Brad Fuehrer of McCool Junction, Shawnee and Ron Branek of Long Island, Kan., Kristie and Ron Sylvester of Omaha, Amy and Nate Holtz of Sherman, Texas, and Bobbie Richardson of York; two great-grandchildren, Hailey Branek and Troy Fuehrer. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law, Clarence and Jean Tietmeyer of Grover, Colo., and Harold Schlechte of York; sisters-in-law, Erna Tietmeyer and Mildred Tietmeyer, both of York; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Herman, brother Leslie, and sisters Alpha and Elda.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Rev. Art Brinkmeyer. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery of York. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will begin Sunday at 1 p.m. at Metz Mortuary. Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.

Christol Cramer

Polk resident, 91
Christol Mae Cramer, 91, of Polk died at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002.

Christol was born on May 5, 1910, in Polk County to John Henry and Adella Fern (Doremus) Quick. She attended school in Polk County and in Cheyenne County and the Grand Island School of Business.

On Oct. 19, 1929, Christol Quick and Cleo R. Cramer were united in marriage at the First Methodist Church in Grand Island. They made their home in the Polk area. Mrs. Cramer was a homemaker and worked 18 years at the Good Samaritan Center in Osceola on the care staff. Cleo died Nov. 29, 1983. Christol had been living at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg since 1994.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Polk, the Rebekah Lodge, and she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and gardening.

Survivors include five daughters, Jean (Elwood) Brinley of San Jacinto, Calif., Joyce (Richard, Jr.) Sealey of Polk, Judy Jones of Whitewater, Wis., Joan (Everett) Frahm of Kansas City, Mo., and Jackie (Gerald) Cline of Central City; three sisters, Dorothy Strohman of Worland, Wyo.; Beverly Smith of Hanna, Wyo.; and June Wunder of Torrington, Wyo.; two brothers, Charles (Georgia) Loveland of Las Vegas, Nev., and Don (Marge) Loveland of Long Pine, Wyo.: 21 grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; 54 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Jeanette Shostrom; two grandsons, Roger Shostrom and Steven Jones; and seven brothers.

Services were held Monday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Polk with Rev. Anderson W. Kwankin officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg or the United Methodist Church in Polk.

Ruth Tucker

Aurora resident, 81
Ruth Mabel Tucker, 82, of Aurora died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

She was born the daughter of Ray Sherman and Margaret LaVonne (Lewis) Eckerson, on a family farm southwest of Aurora, on Sept. 15, 1919.

She grew up on the family farm south and graduated from Aurora High School in 1937. Ruth received her teaching training in high school and went on to teach at District 99 School south of Aurora for two years. She drove a school bus for Aurora Public Schools for 16 years and sold Stanley Home Products for 30 years.

She married Leonard E. Tucker on December 29, 1939, at York. They lived on a farm south of Aurora, and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on December 29, 2001.

Ruth was a member of the Pleasant View Bible Church, was a 4-H leader for 20 years, did volunteer work at Rio Grande Bible Institute for 12 years and served as President of the Hospital Auxiliary for four years. She was also a member of the Nebraska Hikers and Campers Association, where Leonard and she served as King and Queen of the Nebraska Chapter and represented Nebraska at the Nationals held in Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Leonard; and her brother, Garwyn Eckerson.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard of Aurora; three daughters, Peggy (Dwaine) Friesen of Henderson, Shirley (Larry) Wrightsman of York and Kathy (Randy) Velebaof Saronville; one son, Charles (Laura) Tucker of Aurora; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Erma Hines of Fort Morgan, Colo., Willa Martin of Anaheim, Calif., and Shirley (Arlin) White of Groton, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Eckerson of Aurora.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. Interment will be in the Aurora cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.

York resident, 90
Agnes Tietmeyer, age 90 of York, died Friday, February 15, 2002 in York. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.

Edward Lee Stett

Lincoln resident, 57
Edward Lee Stett, 57, died Feb. 13, 2002, in Lincoln.

He was born on April 3, 1944, to Vincent and Frances (Jones) Stett. He passed away among family and friends after a long battle with heart failure and hopes of a heart transplant.

Ed is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Colleen Stett of Cataula, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Holli and Mark Ellis of York, Shelli and Toby Rine of Lincoln, and Amy and Terry Bartlett of York; grandchildren, Marcus, Johnny and Nick Stett, Brittni and Ashli Ellis, Whitney and Olivia Rine, Cassie and Trevor Bartlett; mother, Frances Stett of Harvard, Neb.; and brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Sue Stett of Harvard.

He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Vincent Stett.

Memorial services are Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at 7 p.m. at the Wilson-Alberding Funeral Home in Harvard. There will be no visitation. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given in Ed's name to the family towards an organ donation fund.

Nikki Lea Davis

Illinois resident, 24
Nikki Lea Davis, 24, died Feb. 10, 2002, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Ill.

She was born July 23, 1977, in Garden City, Kan., the daughter of Randy and Kathy Simmons Davis. Her father, Randy, died in 1997.

She was a custom framer for the Great Frame Shop, Naperville, Ill., and had lived at Aurora since 1995.

Survivors include her parents, Marvin and Kathy Davis Roberts; grandparents, Phyllis Green of Ellis, Kan., and Gilbert and Betty Hamilton of Ingalls, Kan.; one brother, Jeremy Davis of Lincoln; three step-sisters; one niece; and a special friend, Dan Schlender of Aurora.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandfather, Norman Green.

Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at 2: 30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City, Kan., with Pastor Lyle Knuth of Ellis, Kan., officiating. Burial will be at Brownell cemetery in Brownell, Kan.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of the funeral home.

Hobart "Hoby" Springer

Exeter resident, 73
Hobart H. "Hoby" Springer, 73, of Exeter died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held at 10: 30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 14, at the United Church of Christ in Exeter. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at the Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter. Graveside services will take place in Exeter cemetery.

Donald Dean Mitchell

York resident, 74
Donald Dean Mitchell, 74, of 6 Arbor Ct., York, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Grand Island. He was born Nov. 25, 1927.

Survivors include his wife Karen of York, four children, eight stepchildren, and 23 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Phylis Mackey.

Services will be held in Longmont, Colo.

Leola E. Dickey

York resident, 86
Leola E. "Babe" Dickey, 86, of York died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Stromsburg.

She was born Jan. 10, 1916, at York to Sylvanus A. and Laura E. (Hohnbaum) Seaman. On Oct. 4, 1933, she married Oliver "Bob" Dickey at York and Babe worked as a baker at many cafes and restaurants in the York area. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of York and had been a member of the Yorktown Navy Mothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Terri Dickey of Sherman Oaks, Calif.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two daughters and eight brothers and sisters. There will be no visitation or services.

Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. William G. Dick

Lincoln resident, 92
Dr. William G. Dick, 92, of Lincoln died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002.

He was born in Herbert, Saskatchewan Province, Canada, on March 12, 1909.

He was former plant manager at RG LeTourneau in Vicksburg, Miss.; professor emeritus and retired assistant dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; former consultant at the Nebraska Department of Health, Division of Hospitals; elder at Faith Bible Church; former board of directors, Eastmont Towers and Youth Service System; advisor, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship; graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Ill.; Fletcher College, Oscaloosa, Iowa; master's and Ph.D. in economics, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; and a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, business honorary, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Survivors include his wife, L. Ruth (Shankland) Dick of Lincoln; sons and daughters-in-law, William E. and Marsha Dick of Lincoln, James A. and Lynda Dyck of Roca, Kenneth L. and Lynda Dick of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law, Carol R. and Steve Petersen of Lincoln; grandchildren and spouses, William and Jennifer Dick, Kelly Dick, Jonathan Dick, Michael Dick, Melissa Dick, Katie Dick, Samuel Dick, Jamee and James Wolfe, Laurin and Jeff Vincent, Mali Dyck, Stacy and Andy Simones, Corey and Kelly Petersen, Emily Petersen, Elissa and Jason Huebert, David Dick, Rachel Dick; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Faith Bible Church, 6201 S. 84th St. Pastor Tom Rempel will be officiating. Private burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. Memorials may be sent to Faith Bible Church or Eastmont Towers.

Ruth Richert

Gresham resident, 86

Ruth E. Richert, 86, of Gresham died on Oct. 27, 2001, in Milford.

She graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School and lived on a farm north of Utica.

Survivors include her sister, Merna and husband Adrian (Duece) Moravec of Seward; sister-in-law, Verna Richert of Utica.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Amanda (Krueger) Richert; brother, Alfred Richert; sisters, Evelyn (Walter) Luebbe and Helen Barron.

Services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 1: 30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica with the Rev. Robert Gadeken officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel cemetery in Utica.

David Buller

Clarks resident, 77

David H. Buller, 77, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, near his home by Clarks. Memorial services will be Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Melvin Zichek officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at a later date as the deceased was cremated.

Earl Sundberg

Aurora resident, 81

Earl Sundberg, age 81, of Aurora, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 26, 2001, at Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln.

The son of Aaron and Rhoda (Gustafson) Sundberg, was born on the family farm northwest of Aurora on Oct. 19, 1920 and died in Lincoln on Oct. 26, 2001.

Earl grew up on the family farm near Aurora and attended school in Aurora through the eighth grade. Earl served in the Army during World War II, from 1942-45. He was stationed in the Western Pacific. When he returned, he worked on the railroad for a short time and farmed for several years.

Earl was united in marriage to Jean George on Aug. 10, 1946 at Marysville, Kan. Five children were born to this union. Earl became an electrical and appliance repairman. He could fix stoves, washers, dryers and most household appliances. Earl retired in 1986. Jean passed away on May 10, 1991.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. Earl enjoyed fishing, musical instruments and working on his loom, making rugs. He was a big fan of Aurora football and Nebraska football. Earl really enjoyed his family, including his grandkids and great-grand kids.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents.

Earl is survived by his two sons, Roger and his wife Luann and Kent and Barb, all of Aurora; three daughters, Cindy Jacobsen and her husband Mike of Aurora, Rita Grigsby and her husband Rick of Central City and Rebecca Sundberg of Aurora; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, at the Aurora cemetery. Rev. James Garfield will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Aurora cemetery. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the family.
