Ivan Edward Smith
Hampton resident, 75
Ivan Edward Smith, 75, of Hampton, died at his home on Friday, Feb. 2, 2001.
He was born May 1, 1925, in Benedict to Arthur R. and Hazel M. (Fox) Smith.
He grew up in the Benedict area, graduated from Benedict High School in 1943, and still holds the high school discus record. After graduation, he tested for milk quality at dairy farms in a three-county area for several years.
On March 14, 1948, he was married
to Pauline A. Ahlquist in Stromsburg. They lived their entire married
life in Hamilton County.
He worked as a dairy herdsman for Maurice Kramer for several years and had his own farming and dairy operation from 1950 until 1964. At this time, they moved into Hampton where Ivan worked for a short time for Ralph Arndt before they purchased a plumbing and trenching business from Arndt. Operating Smith's Plumbing and Well Service was a family effort, with his son, Terry, who later became a partner in the business. He later turned the management over to his son, but still contributed where he was able.
He attended the Community Bible Church in Lushton.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline of Hampton; one son, Terry (LaVonne) Smith of Hampton; one sister, Bonnie (Kenneth) Foster of Isabella, Mo.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Smith, and one sister, Carol Cunningham.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Aurora with the Rev. Eldon Berg officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton cemetery. Visitation is at the Solt Funeral Home in Hampton on Monday, Feb. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson's Foundation.
Dorothy Kellner
York resident, 71
Dorothy Kellner, 71, of York, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in York.
She was born April 16, 1930, at Gordon, to Allen and Anna (Anderson) Pollock. She graduated from Ewing High School.
On Sept. 13, 1953, she married
Donald Kellner at Orchard. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York and enjoyed playing bridge and pitch in several local card clubs.
Survivors include one son, Lynn Kellner of Columbus; two daughters, Donna Kellner of Columbus and Tracey (Brett) Dowling of Toano, Va.; one granddaughter, Morgan Dowling of Toano; one brother, Donald (Dorothy) Pollock of Neligh; and one sister, Eleanor Pollock of Omaha.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband in 1993, an infant brother and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 21, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Rev. Arthur Brinkmeyer officiating. Burial will be at the Greenwood cemetery in York. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Sunday, at Metz Mortuary in York, which is in charge of the arrangements.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the church.
Jean I. Wochner
Henderson resident, 82
Jean I. Wochner, 82, of Henderson and formerly of York, Aurora, and Central City, died on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 13, 2002, at the Henderson Care Center in Henderson.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time. A complete obituary notice will appear in a future edition. Lewis Funeral Chapel of Henderson is in charge of arrangements.

Velmor J. Geiger, 88, of York died Friday, April 12, 2002, in York. Survivors include his wife, Margaret. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.
Margaret Becker
Exeter resident, 84
Margaret T. Becker, 84, the widow of Cyril I. Becker, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, in Exeter.
She was born to William and Mary (Wirtheim) Leif Jr. on Aug. 22, 1917, at Utica.
Survivors include her sons, Tom Becker (Sharon Stoller) of Exeter, James (Kaye) Becker of Hastings, Mark (Meg) Becker of Exeter, Gregory (Deb) Becker of Harvard; daughters, Mary (Roger) Pribyl of Milligan, Patricia (Joe) Koca of Exeter, Virginia (Bill) Bode of Friend, Cecilia (James) Fresco of New Hope, Pa.; brothers, Paul (Bessie) Leif of Beaver Crossing, Clarence (Mildred) Leif of Lincoln; sister, LeNora Coffey of Exeter; brother-in-law, John Burns of York; sisters-in-law, Darlene Becker of Exeter, Rita Walker of Seattle, Wash.; 23 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Exeter. A Rosary service will be Tuesday at 7: 30 p.m. at the church. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Tuesday at Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter. Graveside services will be at the Exeter cemetery. Officiating will be Father Kenneth Borowiak. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Catholic Church or Exeter Rescue Unit, in lieu of flowers.
Leonard Faustman
York resident, 94
Leonard G. Faustman, 94, of York died Sunday, April 7, 2002, in York.
He was born Nov. 15, 1907, to Otto and Emma (Klinker) Faustman at Charleston, Neb. He married
Evangeline Ellis on Jan. 4, 1931, in York. Evangeline died in January of 1993. Leonard was a longtime York County farmer until retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Faustman of Lincoln and Wayne (Bitty) Faustman of York; one daughter, Shirley (Glenn) Vassar of York; grandchildren, Leslie (Al) Morell of Myrtle Beech, Fla., Lisa (Jeff) Hurlbut of Oviedo, Fla., Christopher (Angie) Tietmeyer and Chad (Brenda) Tietmeyer, both of York; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evangeline; and two sisters, Mabel Dahlke and Dorothy Lage.
Funeral services will be held at 10: 30 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, at Metz Chapel in York with Phil Towle. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, York. The family suggests memorials be directed to Adopt-a-Pet. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., Monday, at Metz Mortuary in York, which is in charge of arrangements.

Harold P. Duff, 72, of York died today (Wednesday, April 10, 2002) in York. Survivors include his wife, Jean. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.
Virginia Blair
York resident, 49
Virginia M. "Ginger" Blair, 49, of York died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, in Lincoln.
She was born Jan. 31, 1953, in Manhattan, Kan., to Richard and Dorothy (Herman) Tritt. She graduated from Hebron High School, Hebron, in 1970. Ginger was a former secretary at CTEC in York. She was a longtime board member for Blue Valley Community Action.
Survivors include her husband, Steve of York; sons, Chris Cowins of Milwaukee, Wis., Danny Cowins and Lance Cowins of York; her father, Richard Tritt of Carlton, Neb.; one brother, Edward (Rhonda) Tritt of York; stepbrothers, Frank (Addie) Fracier of Oxnard, Calif., and Curtis (Deb) Stiers of McCook; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Metz Chapel in York. Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m. at the Carlton cemetery, Carlton, Neb. Memorials may be sent in care of the family. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Metz Mortuary in York which is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Kornelson, 91, of Henderson died Sunday morning, March 31, in Aurora. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in Henderson.
David S. Alexander
Henderson resident, 87
David Steele Alexander, 87, of Henderson died on Friday, March 29, 2002, at Henderson.
He was born May 22, 1914, at Natural Bridge, Va., to Robert and Elizabeth (Steele) Alexander. He graduated from the Jefferson Senior High School in Roanoke, Va., in 1932 and attended the Universities of Virginia, Akron and Rochester. He was a self-employed C.P.A. and auditor.
David was married
Feb. 17, 1940, at Erie, Penn., to Joan Margaret Newbery. David was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. Upon separation from the Army, David became a civilian transportation officer for the Air Force, stationed from 1951 to 1973 at Roswell, N.M. They came to the Henderson area in 1973. He was a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church at Henderson and was a lifetime member of the Masonic Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Alexander of Henderson.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Burial will be in the Bethesda cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church. Metz Mortuary of Henderson is in charge of arrangements.
Audrey P. Kugler
York resident, 74
Audrey P. Kugler, 74, of York, formerly of Lexington died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at York.
She was born Nov. 15, 1928, at Callaway, to Leo and Eva (Cudaback) Baker. She grew up on a farm near Callaway. After graduating from Callaway High School in 1946, she moved to Lexington.
She was married
to Neil Kugler for 54 years and resided in Lexington during that time. She lived briefly at East Lawn East Apartments in Lexington and several months ago moved to York to be near her daughter.
Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn (Jim) Swanson of Cozad and Connie (Bob) Swails of York; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Janese (Gage) McCaslin of Torrington, Wyo., Charlotte (Don) Hartman of Norton, Kan., and Sandy Fox of Callaway; nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and her daughter, Sharon.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 5, at 10: 30 a.m., at the Callaway United Methodist Church in Callaway with Rev. Gerald Schwarz officiating. Burial will be at the Rose Hill cemetery at Callaway. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Hearthstone Care Center in York.

Thelma Conkling
Osceola resident, 83
Thelma Conkling, 83, of Osceola, died at the Good Samaritan Center in Osceola.
She was born May 13, 1918, the daughter of Clinton and Della (Deeds) Donelson. She was a 1935 graduate of Stromsburg High School, and attended York College for one year. She married
Orley Conkling on Aug. 7, 1937, at Geneva. The couple farmed near Stromsburg until 1966, when they moved to Osceola.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Osceola and the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include two sons, Donald (Betty Lou) Conkling and Scott Conkling, all of Osceola; three daughters, Katherine Reichstein of York, Margaret (Alvin) Eickmeier of Lincoln, and Donita (Kenneth) Satterwhite of Grand Prairie, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, one sister, and one granddaughter, Julie Reichstein.
Funeral services will be held at 10: 30 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, at the First United Methodist Church in Osceola, with the Revs. Richard Dimond and Lester Anderson officiating. Interment will be at the Osceola cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, March 4, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Jacob T. Rempel
Henderson resident, 92
Jacob T. Rempel, 92, of Henderson, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Henderson.
He was born Jan. 6, 1910, in rural York County to Gerhard G. and Maria (Thieszen) Rempel. He was a longtime Henderson area farmer and was an active member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. He graduated from Henderson High School and then attended German Bible School at Henderson for three years. He was a past member of the Henderson Commercial Club, the Gideon's Society and was a member of the Henderson School Board for 12 years. On Oct. 10, 1934, he was married
to Sarah Epp in rural Henderson. After her death, he married
Sarah Epp on Aug. 1, 1975, in Henderson.
Survivors included his sons, Clarence (Amanda) Rempel of Newton, Kan., and Marlin (Arlene) Rempel of Henderson; daughters, Lorna (Larry) Epp of Aurora and Lenora (Raymond) Heiser of Bartlesville, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, David H. Friesen of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, son Robert, two brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Due to remodeling at Metz Mortuary in Henderson, visitation will be from noon until 9 p.m., on Monday at Metz Mortuary in York and from noon until 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Memorials may be directed to the Gideon's Society or to the Bethesda Mennonite Church.
Roy Lee James
York resident, 51
Roy Lee James, 51, of York died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at York.
He was born March 11, 1951, at North Platte to Byron and Phyllis D. (Hansen) James. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York and the York Lions Club. He participated in the Special Olympics, Client Council, and enjoyed swimming, bowling and traveling.
He is survived by his legal guardians, Marilyn and Gerald Staehr of York, and a special friend, Lorraine Troudt of York.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Metz Chapel with the Rev. Arthur Brinkmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the Martin Luther Home in York. Visitation begins after 5 p.m., Wednesday, at Metz Mortuary in York.
