Father Frank Machovec

Funeral services for Father Frank J. Machovec, Superior, will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Superior on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000 at 11 a.m. The Most Reverend Fabian W. Bruskewitz will be officiating.

A Rosary Service will be Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 7: 30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. until 6: 30 p.m. at the Mergue-Price Funeral Home in Superior.

Burial will be in the Calvary cemetery in Lincoln with military rites at 3: 30 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 3.

Kenneth Barr

James Kenneth Barr, 88, of York, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 at York.

He was born Jan. 21, 1912 in York County to James E. and Emma C. (Priess) Barr. He was a 1930 graduate of York High School. He was married at York on Aug. 19, 1936 to Cleo F. Folts. They lived and farmed near York until their retirement.

He worked at the Nebraska Center for Women, York Livestock Sales and Sunflower Packing. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of York, where he had been an elder and deacon, the Farmers Union and the Co-op where he had been a board member.

He is survived by two sons, James (Carol) Barr of York and Richard (Geri) Barr of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and three grandchildren, Sarah Barr (Dan Ruth) of Fayetteville, Ark., Amy Barr of Des Moines, Iowa and David Barr of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cleo, in 1988; and sister, Maxine Merchant.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 3, at 10: 30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of York with the Rev. Dick Woolard officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to the Presbyterian Memorial Foundation. Metz Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

William Blackburn

William Blackburn, 73, of Hopkinsville, Ken., died Wednesday, June 28, 2000 at the Jennie Stuart Medical Center. Funeral services were held Friday, June 30, at 10 a.m., at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville, Ken., with the Rev. Don Troutman officiating.

Warren Ernest Marquardt

Warren Ernest Marquardt, 80, of Marina del Rey, Calif., died Friday, June 30, 2000 at Daniel Freeman Hospital in Marina Del Rey after suffering a stroke and heart attack. Services are currently being arranged.

Irene R. Tatro

Irene R. Tatro, of Geneva, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at Geneva. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 18, at 10: 30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Geneva with Rev. Brian Kotas officiating.

Agnes Drake Bedient

Agnes Drake Bedient, 80, of Wichita, Kan., died July 20, 2000, at her home in Wichita, Kan. Services will be held at the Sillin Funeral Home in Sterling, Kan., on Monday, July 24, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating.

Edna F. Snodgrass

Edna F. Snodgrass, 88, of Fairmont, died Friday, July 21, 2000 in Fairmont. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 24, at 10: 30 a.m. at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva.

Logan J. Nichols

Osceola infant
Logan J. Nichols, the one-day-old infant daughter of D. J. and Heather Nichols of Osceola, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg. The Rev. Keith Brozek will officiate. Burial will be in the Osceola cemetery.

Survivors include her parents; sister, Kayla of Osceola; grandparents, Fred and Jill Bush of Osceola and Don and Cheryl Schlueter of Waco; great-grandparents, Neva Bush of Stromsburg, Wayne and Colleen Agena of Lincoln, Esther Schlueter of York and Jim and Connie Herfkins of Omaha; and great-great-grandmother, Helen Hiemer of Shelby.

She was preceded in death by great-grandfathers, Willard Bush and Walter Schlueter, and great-great-grandfather, Adolph Hiemer.

George Carlson

York resident, 90

George Carlson, 90, of York, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.

Emma Conell

Waco resident, 81

Emma A. M. Conell, 81, of Waco died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, in Stromsburg.

She was born in Utica on April 12, 1920, to George and Emma (Tonjes) Fehlhafer. On Oct. 6, 1940, Emma was married to Delnor Conell at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gresham.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid and the York County Extension Club.

She is survived by her husband, Delnor of Waco; two sons, Dennis (Vickie) Conell of Utica and Dr. Gary (Twila) Conell of North Platte; one daughter, Carol (Stan) Erks of Utica; two sisters, Irma (Richard) Bristol of Aurora and Irna Obermier of Grand Island; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Selma Obermier.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Zion Lutheran Church in Thayer with the Rev. Lee Seetin officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Church cemetery in Thayer. Volzke Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Irvine A. Obermiller

Grand Island resident, 87
Irvine Albert Obermiller, 87, of Grand Island died June 16, 2002, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1915, at Farwell, Neb., to Albert and Isabelle (Irvine) Obermiller. At the age of five, his family moved to Loup City and he graduated from Loup City High School in 1934. He taught school at District 81 for two years. He then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for three years and the University of Nebraska at Omaha for one year where he received his bachelor of arts degree. While attending college in Omaha, he was employed as a dairy farm inspector for the Nebraska-Iowa Milk Association.

In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in Bakersville, Calif. He was honorably discharged due to ill health. He returned to Loup City to recuperate and then to Omaha and the Nebraska-Iowa Milk Association. He relocated to Washington and worked for the paper mills. He also helped with the harvest of his father's land in Texas. Upon the sale of the land in Texas, he returned once again to Loup City where he farmed and fed cattle. He also worked part time at the Ordinance Plant.

He was united in marriage to Ursula Lemke in Omaha. He then married Marian Barnett in Litchfield. She preceded him in death in 1976. He then married Ella McChesney in Alliance. After a short while in Loup City, the couple lived in Alliance where he worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. Mrs. Obermiller died in 1987. He and special companion, Lucille Schuett, moved from Alliance to Grand Island in 1988 where he remained.

He was a member of the Loup City V.F.W. and a life member of the Loup City American Legion Post #48.

Survivors include Lucille Schuett of Grand Island; son, John Obermiller of Omaha; daughter, Patricia "Pat" Mehmken of Lincoln; stepsons, David Barnett of Jensen Beach, Fla., Robert McChesney of North Platte; stepdaughters, Deborah (Tom) Mrozek of York, Margaret McDonald of Benkelman, Mary Jean Toline of Wahoo; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Harold H. Obermiller of Loup City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Ella and Marian; one infant grandson, Jerome Mroczek; three brothers; and two sisters.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at 1: 30 p.m. at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island with the Rev. Ray Schroeder officiating. Inurnment will be in the Grand Island City cemetery. There will be no visitation as the deceased was cremated. Memorials are suggested to the Loup City High School for a scholarship in his name.

Walter Loren Carlson

Virginia resident
Walter Loren Carlson of Fairfax, Va., died on Tuesday, June 11, 2002.

He was a World War II veteran and a graduate of the University of Nebraska. He was an electrical engineer with the U.S. Patent Office for 31 years, retiring as group director in 1980.

Walter is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice; son, Robert L. Carlson of Denver, Colo.; and daughter, Carolyn (Thomas) Cadier of Atlanta, Ga.

Graveside services are scheduled for 12: 30 p.m., Saturday, at the Greenwood cemetery in York with the Rev. Ralph Ford officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10: 30 a.m. until noon at Metz Mortuary in York.

Frederick J. Greckel

Utica resident, 78
Frederick J. Greckel, 78, of Utica died June 3, 2002, in Lincoln.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1923, in Bloomfield, to Fred and Emma (Kortum) Greckel.

Survivors include his son, Mark (Nancy) Greckel of Waco; sister, Marcia (Paul) Friedricksen of Aurora; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Greckel of Scottsbluff and Dorothy Greckel of Bloomfield; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Twila; and son, Kevin.

Services will be Thursday, June 6, 2002, at 2 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica with the Rev. Robert Gadeken officiating. Burial will be in Utica cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 4, from 1 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, June 5, from 8: 30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Volzke Mortuary in Seward. The family will meet friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary. There will also be visitation starting at 11 a.m. at the church before the service.

Mary Eichstedt

York resident, 70
Mary Eichstedt, 70, of York died Sunday, June 2, 2002, in York. She was born March 7, 1932, in York to Francis J. and Evelyn (Cunningham) Neville. She graduated from St. Joseph's School in York and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She married Douglas Eichstedt on Sept. 3, 1968, in York.

She is survived by one daughter, Lori Schneider of York; four grandchildren; two brothers, Gerry (Carol) Neville of York and Bob (Marilyn) Neville of Lincoln; and one sister, Margie Hofferber of Geneva.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, one sister, one brother and an infant granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 10: 30 a.m., Friday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York with burial in the church cemetery. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m., Thursday, at the church. Memorials may be made in care of the family. Visitation will begin Wednesday afternoon at Metz Mortuary in York, which is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Lee Burman

York resident, 72
Marilyn Lee Burman, 72, of York died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at York.

She was born July 1, 1929, at York to Arley F. and Selma (Koch) Burman. Marilyn was a 1947 graduate of York High School and had attended Hastings College. She was a longtime employee of the State of Nebraska in Lincoln and a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of York.

She is survived by cousins, including Jon and Charmayne Samuelson of Hereford, Ariz., Robert and Darlene Samuelson of Friend, Doug and Debra Senkbile of Central City, Doug and Robbie Samuelson of Kearney, Roger and Kristy Horner of Friend, Art and Helen Quimiro of Portland, Ore. Preceding her in death were her parents.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at the Greenwood cemetery at York with the Rev. Art Schauer. No visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Church at York. Metz Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Donald R. Wall

Hampton native, 71
Donald R. Wall, 71, a native of Hampton died May 22, 2002.

He was born July 30, 1903, in Hampton and moved to Tucson, Ariz., in 1960.

He was in the Armed Service from 1951-53.

He is survived by his wife, Elva; sister, Doris (LaVern) Klute; brothers, Edgar (Anita) and Dale (Susie).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Myrna Wall; and his brother, Roger.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 710 S. Kolb Road.

Estelle L. Burnham

North Platte resident, 89
Estelle L. Burnham, 89, of North Platte, died May 17, 2002, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

She was born Sept. 12, 1912, in Old Ripley, Ill., to James A. and Elsie Corson Ping. Estelle grew up in Hartington, Neb., where she graduated from Hartington High School.

She married Edwin H. Burnham Oct. 15, 1938. He preceded her in death Oct. 5, 1983. While her husband served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot during World War II, the couple lived in Dallas, Texas, where Estelle worked in a Dallas bank. They returned to Omaha in 1946 where Ed resumed his career at Livestock National Bank. Edwin and Estelle moved to Stapleton in January of 1947 where they both went to work for the Bank of Stapleton. They bought the bank in 1952 and Estelle stopped working at the bank shortly thereafter.

Estelle continued to live in Stapleton following her husband's death until selling her home and moving to North Platte in 1995. In 1998 Estelle moved to Centennial Park Retirement Village.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Stapleton, the Order of the Eastern Star and served Meals on Wheels for several years.

Survivors include sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews.

Estelle was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ruth Lietgeb, Laura Sullivan, and Irene Bobenmoyer; two brothers, Lyle Plog and Lorenzo Plog.

Services will be Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Stapleton with the Rev. Mark Christopher officiating. Burial will be at McCain cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be today from noon to 6 p.m. and Monday from 8: 30 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Adams and Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte is in charge of arrangements.
