Martin Alms, 76, of York died today, Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at York. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.

"Betty" Eichinger

South Dakota resident, 82
"Betty" Beatrice Catherine Eichinger, 82, of Aberdeen, S.D., died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

She was born March 18, 1920, to Joseph J. and Marie (Behrend) Fergen in Parkston, S.D. She graduated from Parkston High School and attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D. She received her teacher's certificate in music and taught for one year at Roscoe and then moved to Aberdeen and was employed with the Internal Revenue Service.

She married Joseph "Joe" Eichinger on Dec. 27, 1945, in Parkston, S.D. They made their home in Aberdeen where she started raising their family. In 1954 they moved to Fargo, N.D., and in 1956 they lived in Cresbard, S.D. They retired in the early 1970s and moved back to Aberdeen in 1975. In her final four years, she lived at Avera Mother Joseph Manor.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and two brothers.

Surviving are two daughters, Maggie (Margaret) Piatt of El Cajon, Calif., and Ann Eichinger of Pierre, S.D.; four sons, John Eichinger, Max Eichinger, George Eichinger, all of Aberdeen, and Paul 'Pat' (Lisa) Eichinger of York; five grandchildren; three sisters, Jackie Waldo of Bennington, Neb., Rachel Locken of Enumclaw, Wash., and Mary Jo Scholer of Upland, Calif.; four brothers, Thomas Fergen of Irvine, Calif., Vic Fergen of Moorhead, Minn., Daniel Fergen of Key Largo, Fla., and Gerry Fergen of Santa Maria, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2001, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Ave. SE. The Rev. Terry Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart cemetery. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 5th Ave. NW is in charge of arrangements. The family prefers memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, Siouxland Chapter, 1321 West 22nd St., Sioux Falls, S.D. 57105.

Arthur Amadon

Massachusetts resident, 89
Arthur N. Amadon, 89, of Southborough, Mass., died Monday, April 22, 2002, at the Newton-Wellesley Alzheimer's Center in Wellesley.

Born in Holton, Kan., son of the late Charles H. and Goldye (Queen) Amadon, he was raised in York and attended York College, the University of Nebraska, New England Conservatory of Music and Vesper George School of Art.

He began his singing career with Rakov and his orchestra and was featured with Boston society bands. He was soloist with the Charles Hector Orchestra. He became the "D'Arrigo Serenader" on radio. For many years he was the voice of the New England Flower show. He was chosen by NBC to announce the RCA Victor network programs with Arthur Fiedler and Robert Merrill.

He embarked on a new career in 1948 with the arrival of television. He was part of the Jim Jenson/Art Amadon series of newscasts, announced the first television network program of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and was host/announcer for the "Starring the Editors" program for 19 years.

He was a resident of Wellesley, Mass., for 50 years and moved to Southborough three years ago. He was predeceased by his first wife, Martha (Leesman) Amadon in 1984. He is survived by his second wife of 15 years, Henrietta Hale Amadon; his son, Dean C. Amadon, and wife, Carolyn of West Hartford; three stepchildren, three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, Mass.

Angelina Mastrocesare Messick

Former York resident, 72
Angelina Mastrocesare Messick, 72, of Kansas City, Mo., died Monday, May 20, 2002, at North Kansas City Hospital.

She was a resident of York for a time, while she worked at Little Cesar's Restaurant in Bradshaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pasquale and Grave Mastrocesare, and her brother, Angelo Mastrocesare.

Thelma G. Zehr

Hastings resident, 96
Thelma G. (Hunt) Zehr, 96, of Hastings died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings.

She was born March 19, 1905, near Juniata to Clarence and Goldie Charlotte (Conger) Hunt. She graduated from Chappell High School, Chappell. She married Nicholas C. Zehr in Greeley, Colo., on June 4, 1925, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1996. They lived in Chappell until 1936 when they moved to Fremont, and in 1989 to Good Samaritan Village, Hastings.

Thelma moved to Sunnyside Retirement Home in 1997 and resided there until becoming ill in November 2001. She then resided in Haven Home in Kenesaw and then in Perkins Pavillion, Good Samaritan Village, Hastings.

She clerked in several stores in Fremont, including J C Penney. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church; a dual member of Acacia Chapter #39 in Hastings and of Arbor Vitae Chapter #92 in Fremont Order of the Eastern Star, past Noble Grand of Rebekah's in Chappell and a member of NARFE in Hastings.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Marguerite Spindler and Dorothy Riley.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara E. Yost of Hastings; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Waunetta Hosch of Ackley, Iowa; four nieces and four nephews.

Services will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 10: 30 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings, with the Rev. Jim Miller and the Rev. Dean Joy officiating. An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be conducted by Acacia Chapter #39 Order of the Eastern Star, Hastings. Burial will be in Chappell cemetery, Chappell, on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. (MT) with the Rev. Dean Joy officiating. Visitation is Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and Tuesday, Feb. 12, for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be sent to Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings or the donor's choice.

Mildred Rickfelder

Former polk resident, 91
Mildred Shaffer Rickfelder, 94, of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Polk, died at the Hospice of Arizona at the Freedom Plaza in Peoria on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Mildred was born in Polk on Jan. 21, 1908, to Charlie and Anna (Pike) Graves.She grew up in the Polk area. In October of 1926, Mildred Graves and Ralph Shaffer were united in marriage. They lived in Grand Island and owned and operated Holland Furnace Company until their retirement in 1961. They moved to Tuscon, Ariz., to live and her husband died on March 18, 1965. Mildred continued to live in Arizona and in 1970 married Lawrence Rickfelder. They lived in Peoria, Ariz.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Rickfelder of Peoria, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Edith Eggleston of Aurburn; two stepsons, Lawrence "Larry" Rickfelder of Elk Rapids, Mich., and Alan Rickfelder of Farmington Hills, Mich.; nine step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great grandchildren; nephew Max Jones of Polk; and two nieces, Joyce Baack and Beverly Bills, both of Polk.

She was preceded in death by her first husband. Ralph Shaffer. and one sister. Margaret Jones.

Services were held Friday, March 1 at 10 a.m., at the Lundberg Golden Door Chapel in Youngtown, Ariz. There will be a visitation at Solt Funeral Home in Polk on Tuesday, March 5 from 2 until 3: 30 p.m., followed by graveside services at Arborville cemetery near Polk with Rev. Lester Anderson officiating.

Everett Rockwell

Kearney resident, 84
Everett (Rocky) Rockwell, 84, 1014 East 48th St., Kearney, died Friday, Feb. 8, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Sept. 27, 1917, in Logan County to George and Emma (Andersen) Rockwell. He attended school in Logan County and graduated from Logan County High School in 1935. He attended college at UNL and Kearney State College.

He was married to Betty J. Cross of Benedict on Dec. 25, 1942. They lived in North Platte where he worked at Fairmont Foods. He moved to York in 1943 where he worked for the accounting department at Nebraska Public Power District. He was transferred to Kearney in 1966. At the time of his retirement in 1982, he was regional office supervisor of the central district. His wife died Feb. 9, 1991.

He was married to Norrine R. Schutz in Kearney on Aug. 31, 1991.

He was a 50-year member of the First Methodist Church before becoming a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney.

Survivors include his wife of Kearney; one daughter, Cynthia Rockwell of Lincoln; stepson, Dennis Schutz of Broomfield, Colo.; stepdaughter, Eunice Hibbs of Lincoln; sister, Gladys Brown of Arnold; a grandson, Andrew Naylor of Lincoln; step-grandson, Jonathan Schutz, and two step-granddaughters, Sara Schutz and Phoebe Hibbs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; brothers, Orville and Walter; and sister, Florence Conley.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Rev. North Sherrill will officiate. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill cemetery near Benedict. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the O-Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 5 to 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran's building fund. O'brien-Straatman-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.

Ken E. Williamsen Sr.

Wisconsin resident, 71
Kenneth E. Williamsen Sr., 71, of Wyocena, Wis., formerly of York and Waco, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in Wyocena.

He was born Aug. 10, 1930, in York to Elmer and Ruth (Pinneo) Williamsen. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1967, worked for Champion Homes in York and was a truck driver before retiring.

He is survived by his wife, Chris of Wyocena; six daughters, Marsha (Tom) Splic, Katherine Williamsen, Ruth (Larry) Hall, all of California; Melissa (Robert) Drew, Karen (Tim) Duffy, Laura (Todd) Halverson, all of Wisconsin; two sons, Ken Williamsen Jr. and Keith Williamsen, both of Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Gwen) Williamsen of York and Ardell (Jane) Williamsen of Baltimore; five sisters, Merna Hofferber of York, Nancy (Marlan) Cohagan of McCool Junction, Betty Hobson of Waco, Sharon (Rick) Wells of Michigan and Doris Foote of Palmyra.

Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant son Kenneth II, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 11, at the Grace Bible Church in Portage, Wis. Military graveside services will follow at the North Marcellon cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Smith Funeral Home, 106 Roosevelt St., Pardeeville, Wis. 53954.

Nancy Anne Fintel

Byron resident, 64
Nancy Anne Fintel, 64, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in Hebron.

She was born on Jan. 2, 1938, in York to Carl and Louise (Snyder) Barth. She was one of nine children. She was baptized on Jan. 16, 1938, at the family home by Pastor G. J. Jilg. She attended District 86 country school in York County and Christian Day School at Waco. She was confirmed on April 6, 1952, at Peace Lutheran Church in Waco by Pastor Albert Schroeder. Nancy graduated from York High School, then attended St. John's Jr. College in Winfield, Kan., and graduated with an associate degree.

She was married to Curtis B. Fintel on Nov. 24, 1962, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Nancy was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, where she served as Sunday School superintendent and church librarian. She was a member of the American Cancer Society and of the Thayer Co. Extension Board. She served on the election board and was a 4-H leader.

Nancy was a correspondent for the Hastings Tribune in Hastings at the time of her death. She previously had written for The Deshler Rustler, The Superior Express, and the Advisor in Hebron.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Lisa Kay Fintel; two brothers, Homer and Carl Barth; a sister, Mildred Barth Wunderlich.

She is survived by her husband, Curtis, of rural Byron; daughters, Leah (Richard) Krotz of Belleville, Kan., and Kara Fintel of Lincoln; two grandchildren; brothers, Howard (Guiomar) Barth of Summit, Mo., Robert (Milda) Barth of Lincoln; sisters, Erma (Loren) Pieper of York, Margaret Swetnam of Lakewood, Colo., and Barbara Chambers of Omaha; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services are being held today (Monday, Feb. 11) at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Phillip Nielsen officiating. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran cemetery in Deshler. Visitation was Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Ahrendts Funeral Home in Deshler.

Memorials may be sent to the family's choice at Ahrendts Funeral Home, 315 1st St., Deshler, NE 68340.

Joan Lou Wert

York resident, 74
Joan Lou Wert, 74, of York died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, in Lincoln.

She was born to Joseph Edward and Minnie Ella (Weller) Fagan on Sept. 14, 1927, in Hampton.

She married Keith L. Wert on March 28, 1948, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hampton. They farmed for seven years at Marquette and 28 years at Hampton. She was employed at the Eggplant in York and the Ordnance Plant in Grand Island. She worked for the Hampton and Aurora Post Offices and retired as postmaster in 1996 from the Bradshaw Post Office.

She was an avid lover of the following: baking pies, embroidery, gardening-growing beautiful violets, canning, playing cards, and especially her grandchildren. She believed a great old home remedy to be "white tape." She was a member of the Frieden's United Church of Christ in Goehner.

Survivors include her husband, Keith L. Wert of York; daughters and sons-in-law: Patty and Terry Biggerstaff of Lincoln, Kathy TeSelle of York, Becky and Bill Wisell of Lincoln; grandchildren and spouses: Shaun and Lesley Welch of Gainesville, Fla., Shannon Welch-Groves and Aaron Groves of Greeley, Colo., Jason Welch of Lincoln, Erienne and Randy TeSelle of York, Andy, Audrey, and Abby Wisell of Lincoln; great-grandchildren: Trevor and Megan Welch of Gainesville, Fla.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dale Fagan.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Goehner United Church of Christ with the Rev. Gwen Hurst-Anderson officiating. There will be cremation with no visitation or viewing. Burial will be a private inurnment at Mount Prairie cemetery in Goehner at a later date.

Honorary pallbearers are Shaun Welch, Shannon Welch-Groves, Jason Welch, Erienne TeSelle, Randy TeSelle, Andy Wisell, Audrey Wisell and Abby Wisell.

Memorials may be given in care of the family.

Omaha resident, 54
Kathryn R. Abels, 54, of Omaha died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, in Omaha. She was born on Aug. 7, 1947, in Sidney.

Survivors include her husband, Chuck Abels of Omaha; mother, Ruth Wilson of York; daughter, Stacy (Dallas) Williams of Lincoln; son, Jon (Meesha) Vollertsen of Lincoln; sister, Lois (Gerald) Pesek of Omaha; stepsister, Rita (Pete) Friesen of Hampton; mother-in-law, Mildred Abels of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Davison; stepfather, Bud Wilson; and stepbrother, Gary Wilson.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 25, from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home in Omaha. Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m., at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Omaha. Graveside services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Greenwood cemetery in York.

Peter R. Klippenstein, 88, longtime resident of York, passed away at his home in York on Thursday afternoon, July 20, 2000. Private burial will be held with interment at Greenwood cemetery in York.

Cheryl Anne Dodson Osborne, 41, of Beatrice, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at Bryan LGH Medical Center in Lincoln. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 22, at the Burchard United Methodist Church in Burchard at 2 p.m. with Pastor Buck Hawks officiating.

Irene Eleanor Rich

Irene Eleanor Rich, 86, of Gladewater, Texas, formerly of the Waco and Lincoln area, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at the Gladewater Nursing Home in Gladewater. Funeral services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church at Waco at 10: 30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25.
