Henderson resident, 82
Wendell Friesen, 82, of Henderson died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Henderson. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Visitation will be Sunday evening at Metz Mortuary at Henderson. A complete obituary will be in the Monday paper. Metz Mortuary of Henderson is in charge of arrangements.
Harry Goertzen
Aurora resident, 85
Harry J. Goertzen, 85, of Aurora, and formerly of Henderson, died Friday, March 7, 2003, at Grand Island.
He was born April 1, 1917, southwest of Henderson to John P. and Elizabeth (Regier) Goertzen. He was a longtime Henderson area farmer and after his retirement, was employed at Midwest Irrigation in Henderson for 12 years.
He was an active member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church, and loved the outdoors and woodworking.
On Jan. 1, 1938, he was married
to Anna Buller at Henderson.
He is survived by his wife, Anna, of Aurora; two sons, John (Dolores) Goertzen of Milford and Carl (Louise) Goertzen of Beatrice; one daughter, Eleanor (Al) Quiring of Lincoln; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Goldie Friesen of Aurora and Mary Friesen of Henderson; one brother-in-law, John Martens of Henderson; and a sister-in-law, Velma Goertzen of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Burial will be at the Bethesda cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday at Metz Mortuary.

Florence Nun
Geneva resident, 96
Florence O. Nun, 96, of Geneva, the widow of Clarence Nun Sr., died Sunday, March 9, 2003, in York.
She was born on Oct. 15, 1906, in Geneva to Lewis and Etta (Kirst) Fox.
Survivors include a son, Clarence (Kathy) Nun Jr. of Geneva; grandchildren, Tom, Chris, Bryan and Emilye; and great-grandson, Wyatt Nun.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, at the United Church of Christ in Geneva. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Tuesday, at the Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Memorials may be sent in care of the family. Graveside services will be at Geneva Public cemetery. Officiating is the Rev. Pat Kelley.
Patricia Cradick
Utica resident, 69
Patricia Jean (Mays) Cradick, 69, of Utica, died Friday, March 7, 2003.
She was born Jan. 20, 1934, the daughter of Alva and Lucille Mays.
She was a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (masters degree). She worked as a teacher with Utica Public Schools, and was a media specialist for Centennial Schools from 1967-1991. She was a member of the Utica United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star #199, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the American Legion Auxiliary #49.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jerry.
Survivors include her husband, Roger Cradick of Utica; a niece, Stephanie Waikle, and a nephew, Jeff Mays, both of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Mays of Mission Viejo.
Visitation will be held today from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Wood-Zabka Funeral Home in Seward and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m., today.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Utica United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Utica cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Patricia Jean Cradick Scholarship Fund, c/o Roger Cradick.
Darlene Suck
Palmer resident, 74
G. Darlene Suck, 74, of Palmer, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Bryan LGH in Lincoln.
Mrs. Suck was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Aurora, to Arthur and Elizabeth (Nelson) Jones. She attended Marquette schools and graduated from Marquette High School in 1946. She then worked in Central City at a local dime store and then on the dental staff for Dr. Scott.
Darlene was united in marriage to Milton Suck on Aug. 28, 1949, in Central City. The couple first lived on a farm southeast of Palmer. In 1960, they moved to Palmer where they have lived since. The couple managed the Coolidge Rest Home for 15 years.
She enjoyed dolls, Snow Babies and Hummel figurines.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Palmer, the Modern Moms and enjoyed going to the Palmer Senior Center.
Survivors include her husband, Milton of Palmer; two daughters and their husbands, Deborah (Dr. David) Demuth of York and Darby (Bill) Greenway of St. Paul; seven grandchildren, Cameron, Collin, Creighton and Caitlin Demuth and Ashley, Alexander and Austin Greenway; and one great-granddaughter, Raegan Demuth.
She was preceded in death by a son, Marshall; one sister, Jewell E. Gregg; and one brother, Wilbur "Casey" Jones.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2003, at the United Methodist Church in Palmer with Rev. Ken West officiating. Burial will be in the Archer Community cemetery near Archer.
Visitation was held Sunday afternoon at the church in Palmer.
Memorials are suggested to the church or to the family's choice.

Margie B. Maupin
York resident, 76
Margie B. Maupin, 76, of York died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at York. She was born Oct. 2, 1926, in Ottawa County, Kan., to Lee and Thelma (Silver) Smith. She was a longtime cafe owner in Geneva and Edgar, Neb., and was a member of the Eagle's Club Auxiliary in York. She enjoyed working with arts and crafts and being with her family.
She is survived by one son, Larry (Janice) Maupin of York and a daughter, Linda K. Zentz of Lacey, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Judy, one brother and one sister.
Private family services will be held at a later time. No visitation or viewing. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Stromsburg resident, 77
Robert J. Behrns, 77, of Stromsburg, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Osceola. Father Thomas McGuire will officiate. Burial will be at the Shelby cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, 5-7 p.m., at St. Vincent's in Osceola, with a 7 p.m. vigil and Rosary.

Goldie Blender
Polk resident, 77
Goldie I. Blender, 77 of Polk, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at her home near Polk.
She was born Aug. 20, 1925, at Bradshaw to Orlie and Viola (Gilbert) Van Ostrand. She was a 1943 graduate of Polk High School. Goldie married
William L. Blender on Sept. 29, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Bradshaw.
She was a homemaker and operated the Cozy Corner Caf� in Polk for several years. She was a member of the Arborville Congregational Church and the Quilting Club at Hordville.
Survivors include her husband, William Blender Sr. of Polk; daughter, Connie (Scott) Dahlin of Holdrege; sons, William (Sandy) Blender Jr. of Grand Island and Paul (Jeanne) Blender of Farnam; and eight grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, at the Arborville Congregational Church near Polk. Burial will be in the Arborville cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Polk Rescue Squad. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Waco resident, 90
Doris M. Johnson, 90, of Waco died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Fairmont. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.
Belle Merrill
Columbus resident, 94
Belle L. Merrill, 94, of Columbus died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Columbus.
She was born Nov. 10, 1908, at Clay Center to Arthur and Anna (Affleck) Brooks. The early years of Belle's life were spent on a ranch southwest of Valentine. Her family later moved to Cody where she attended school. After her graduation they moved to Gordon.
Belle received her B.S. degree from Chadron State College, then did advanced work at the University of Wyoming. While attending college she was a member of many organizations and was very active on campus.
On May 25, 1935, she was married
to Arthur M. Merrill at Columbus. To them a daughter Cherylin was born in 1941.
Belle taught school at the State Home for Children in Lincoln and went on to Dana College in Blair where she was a hostess. Most of her life was dedicated to teaching children. She taught 15 years at Alliance and then seven years as a special education teacher in York. She retired in 1975.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in York where she was active in many areas. She was formerly church school superintendent and Sunday School teacher librarian. She was also a member of the United Presbyterian Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers, York Garden Club and the CEA. After retiring from teaching, Belle kept busy by doing volunteer work.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Cherylin, one sister, two brothers, one nephew and a niece.
She is survived by a niece, grand-niece and a grand-nephew, and special friends, the Hugh Polsons of Columbus.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Greenwood cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the First United Presbyterian Church in York or to Tabitha Hospice. Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. on Sunday. Metz Mortuary in York is in charge of arrangements.
Marjorie V. Thurmond
Texas resident, 79
Marjorie V. Thurmond of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Lincoln and York, died Saturday, March 8, 2003.
She worked in the book store at York College and was a former member of the Church of Christ in Lincoln and the East Hill Church of Christ in York. She was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. She lived in San Antonio, Texas, since 1968.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Alton Thurmond; daughters, Sandy (Bill) Walker of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Pattie (Ted) Mathis of San Antonio; son, Dr. Bill (Sandi) Thurmond of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Porter Loring Mortuary North in San Antonio from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. The service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Porter Loring North Chapel in San Antonio with Larry Moran officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Sam Houston National cemetery.
