Margo Rauert
Aurora resident, 53
Margo Ann Rauert, 53, of Aurora, died Monday, July 28, 2003, at Memorial Hospital.
The daughter of Martin D. and Vona (Johansen) Brandt, she was born in Grand Island on Sept. 27, 1949.
She was born and raised in Grand Island. Margo graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1968. She attended Kearney State College and worked at the Lutheran Hospital in Grand Island as a surgery nurse. She received her Certified Surgical Technician License and specialized as a surgery nurse in Grand Island and Kearney.
She was united in marriage to Glenn Rauert on Nov. 8, 1969, at Grand Island. She worked for the past 22 years in medical records at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church. She loved playing with her granddaughters. Margo also enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, golfing and playing bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Glenn, of Aurora; son, Kent Rauert and his wife, Kara, of York; two granddaughters, Alexandra and Ashton Rauert of York; her brother, Larry Brandt of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and her sister, Karen Brandt of Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 31, at the Messiah Lutheran Church. Rev. Sheryl Kester Beyer will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m.
Samuel West III
York resident, 69
Samuel A. West III, 69, of York died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in York. He was born July 19, 1933, near Wauneta to Samuel E. and Leona (Churchill) West II. He graduated from Wauneta High School, was a musician and made a career as a country music entertainer. He married
Gladys Parker on July 17, 1973, at St. Paul. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys of York; daughters, Terri (Jim) Turcotte of Morrison, Colo., Vicki (Steve) Bradley of Grand Island, Pat Hoover of Lincoln, Lori (Bill) Rowley of Alliance; sons, Samuel E. (Cindy) West IV of Alda, Mike West of Texas, Joe West of Arvada, Colo., Val (Joan) West of Milford, Jeff (Susan) West, Scott West and Benjamin West, all of York; 27 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; sisters, Wanda (Milton) Winkelmann of Staplehurst, Bonnie Winkelman of Utica; brothers, Bob (ElnaRae) West of Alda and Gail (Nona) West of Lincoln.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Carl; one step grandson.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Metz Chapel in York. No visitation. Cremation. Memorials in care of the family. Interment of ashes at a later date at the Ash Hollow cemetery, Lewellen. Metz Mortuary in York is in charge of arrangements.
Russell Christensen
York resident, 88
Russell "Russ" Edward Christensen, 88, of York, formerly of Minden, died Jan. 27, 2003, at The Hearthstone in York.
He was born Jan. 14, 1915, at Minden to Edward O. and Ella (Petersen) Christensen. He attended Kearney County Country School and graduated from Minden High School in 1933.
On April 24, 1938, he was married
to Vera Nelson at the farm home of her parents, Willie and Ebba Nelson. They lived in the Minden area and Russ sold insurance for Ameritas (Bankers Life of Nebraska) for many years.
On Sept. 21, 1964, he was appointed city clerk for the City of Minden, where he served 17 years. He served on the Minden cemetery Board. He was nominated to the Kearney County Agriculture Society in 1958, to the State Fair Board in 1965 and elected to the Executive Board in 1977, where he served for 14 years. He served as secretary, first and second vice president and president of the State Fair Executive Board for the last two years. He worked toward the construction of the new horse barn on the state fairgrounds, which, in addition to fair purposes, is used throughout the year for horse shows and stalling horses during racing season. Russ enjoyed golfing with his buddies. He was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden.
Survivors include his wife Vera of York; three sons, Donald (Bee) Christensen of Key West, Fla., Tom (Lois) Christensen of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Kim (Carolyn) Christensen of York; seven grandchildren, Kurt and Jon, Philip and Justin, and Lisa, Lucas and Jonas; brother-in-law, Richard (Joan) Nelson of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Pauline Christensen of Kearney and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard (Dick) Christensen who died of polio in 1952 and one brother, Dale.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dee Jay Reiff officiating. Burial will be in Minden cemetery. Visitation will be at the Layton Funeral Home, Minden, Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family.
LaVern E. Tewell
Inland resident, 80
LaVern E. Tewell of Inland, Neb., died Jan. 24, 2003, at his home.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1922, in York to Ellwood H. and Ellzola (Banta) Tewell. He graduated from Waco High School in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy.
He was married
on Aug. 27, 1948, to Virginia Cleland. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and farmed for 40 years. He was a member of the 3rd City Grand Island Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; daughters, Bernice Schuster of Plymouth, Minn., Bonita Sichler of Westminster, Colo.; sons, Duaine of Hastings, Donald of Billings, Mont., Lamoine of Loveland, Colo., Larry of Draper, Utah; brothers, Ralph of Hastings and Francis of Polk; nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one infant sister.

Services are today, Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Brand-Wilson Chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Burial will be Tuesday in Inland cemetery. Visitation was yesterday from 5 to 9 p.m. and will be held today one hour before the service.
Eileen J. Gloystein
Utica resident, 75
Eileen J. Gloystein, 75, of Utica died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in Seward.
She was born on Sept. 24, 1927, at York. She graduated from Utica High School in 1945. She married
Hubert Gloystein on Feb. 20, 1949, in Utica. They lived on a farm north of Utica until retirement. Eileen baked and decorated cakes for 25 years. She was a manager at Southview Plaza. Her hobbies were painting and sewing.
Survivors include her husband, Hubert; son, Bruce (Joan) Gloystein of Utica; daughter, Verona (Jerry) Engle of Geneva; brother Roy (Ruby) Dinkelman of York; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Ruth Gloystein of Utica and Lawrence and Elanor Gloystein of Utica; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Gerald Heiden of Waco; grandchildren, Jackie and Lee Gloystein and Melissa and Darin Engle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Johanna (Wiemer) Dinkelman and a granddaughter, Kristin Engle.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Utica, with the Rev. Robert Gadeken officiating. Burial will be in Utica cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Volzke Mortuary and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul Church Building Fund, the Cancer Fund or the family's choice.
Michael Jacobberger
Bennington resident, 51
Michael (Jake) Jacobberger of Bennington died Jan. 23, 2003, at home.
He was born on Sept. 12, 1951.
Survivors include two daughters, Katrina Lynn and Doria Jo of Omaha; mother, Dorothy Jacobberger of Bradshaw; sisters, Sharon (Larry) Kline of York, Barbara (Morrie) Tonkinson of Omaha; brother, William (Pat) Jacobberger of Columbus, Kan.; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were on Monday at 10 a.m. at Mt. Hope cemetery in Omaha.
Evalyn Foster
Lincoln resident, 84
Evalyn C. Foster, 84, of Lincoln, formerly of Geneva, died Monday, June 23, 2003, in Lincoln. She was the widow of Willard H. Foster. She was born to Homer and Mary (Dick) Goodrich on June 6, 1919, at Fairmont.
She was a member of the UCC Church, member and past president of Chapter O PEO, former member of the Nebraska Educational Association, past member of the Alumni Council of Doane College, long time organist and instructor in music, former teacher at the Geneva Youth Development Center.
Survivors include her son, Stanley (Sharon) Foster of Lincoln; daughters, Willa (Richard) Jones of Lincoln, Barbara J. (William Dennis) Hulen of Altoona, Iowa; brothers, Robert D. (Berdeen) Goodrich of Pecatonica, Ill., Donald E. Goodrich of Hastings; sisters, Anna Marie (Rolland) Hall of McCool Junction, Carolyn Ruth (Delvin) Roper of Grand Island; sisters-in-law: Ruth Goodrich of York, Doris Seidell of Lincoln, Louise Foster of Bellevue; grandchildren, Kimberly Nicole Hulen and Chad William Hulen of Altoona, Iowa; Sean Phillip Foster Jones of Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva. Visitation will start at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family greeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Marian Domeier, 78, of Geneva, widow of Marlin A. Domeier, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in Geneva.
She was born to Leonard and Katie (Weldon) Hillgren on Feb. 15, 1925, at Shickley. She was former office manager for Swanson Insurance and Walter Insurance and belonged to United Methodist Church Women, Geneva Tea Ladies, and Mother's Club.
Survivors include her son, Terry (Lori) Domeier of Geneva; daughter, Trish (Tim) McKibbon of Fremont; grandson, Brady Domeier of Geneva; sister, Bernetta Lewis of Stoughton, Wis.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Geneva. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Thursday at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Memorials may be given to Geneva United Methodist Church or Geneva Rescue Squad. Graveside services will be held at Geneva Public cemetery in Geneva. The Rev. Pat Kelley will officiate.
Gerald Richters
Seward resident, 82
Gerald H. Richters, 82, of Seward died June 26, 2003, at the Sundermann Home in Seward.
He was born on April 7, 1921, near Tamora. He was a retired farmer north of Utica, a veteran of WWII Army Air Force, member of Seward VFW Post 4755 and Utica Legion #49. He married
Claudine Abele on June 20, 1948.
Survivors include his wife, Claudine of Seward; sons, Gary (Robin) Richters of Louisville, Roger (Lonna) Richters of Utica; sister, Irene Ritchie, Evelyn (Frank) Pollak of Seward, Shirleen (Robert) Debus of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Wilma Erks of York; three grandchildren, Taylor Richters, Chris Christensen and Stacey Sherman; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ellnora (Scheaper) Richters; brother, Norman Richters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica. Burial will be in Utica cemetery with military graveside services. Volzke Mortuary in Seward is in charge of arrangements.
Esther Thomas
Kansas resident, 73
Esther Lenora (Lyn) Thomas of Salina, Kan., died June 29, 2003. She was born on Nov. 29, 1929, near Scandia, Kan.
She was a graduate of Concordia High School in Concordia, Kan., and of Brown-Mackie College in Salina, Kan. She married
George W. Thomas on Dec. 22, 1951, in Concordia. She was a lifetime member of the PTA and did volunteer work for the Salina schools, the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, and the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a dedicated wife and mother.
She taught school for one year and was a homemaker. She worked for the Salina Clinic and later the R&J; Tax Service.
Survivors include her mother, Esther Mable Horting Sallman of Clifton, Kan.; sons, Greg Thomas of Salina and Kelly Thomas of York; daughters, Kimberly Ehlers of Ft. Atkinson, Wis., Linda Turner of Topeka, Kan., Sherry Oxandale of Holt, Mo., and Karla Arpin of Salina, Kan.; brothers, Gary Sallman of Houston, Texas, Larry Sallman and Karl Sallman, both of Clifton, Kan.; sisters, Charla Mills of Pueblo, Colo., Vivian Schwab of Morganville, Kan., Eva Schwab of Clifton, Kan., Rita Begnoche of Salina, Kan., Melisa Stolzenburg of Clyde, Kan.; 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Thomas, on Nov. 15, 2001, and her father, Walter C. Sallman.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salina, Kan. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Norway, Kan., at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be sent to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salina. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ryan Mortuary and at the church prior to the service.

Jeannine H. Wood, 66, of Moorpark, Calif., died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Thousand Oaks, Calif.
She was born July 28, 1936, in Deadwood, S.D., to Harold and Helen (Miner) Shaw.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis, of Moorpark, Calif.; one son, Mike (Pam) Newlun of Beatrice; one daughter, Dawn Houser of Coeur D. Alene, Idaho; mother, Helen Shaw of York; one sister, Luene (Robert) Rogers of York; brother, Zane (Mary) Shaw of Buford, Ga.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Shaw.Graveside services will be held today (Saturday) at 2 p.m. at the Exeter cemetery. Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of the arrangements.
Velma Mae Bennett
89, York resident
Velma Mae Bennett, age 89, of York, longtime Waco resident, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at York. She was born September 28, 1913 near Everton, MO to David L. and Ethel B. (Van Hooser) Hall. She was a 1932 graduate of Waco High School and a member of the Waco United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was married
to Loren Bennett at York on May 17, 1935 and he died in September of 1968. Velma was a cook at the Waco School for over 14 years and also had been a cook at the First National Bank in York for 5 years.
She is survived by her daughter Jayne and husband Terry Briley of Walton, NE; two granddaughters; Michelle Burgess and finace David Baxter of Littleton, CO and Lori and husband Mike Persinger of Lafayette, CO. Also surviving are her two brothers; Roy and wife Louise Hall of Exeter, NE and Dale and wife Ann Hall of Milford, NE; 3 sisters-in-laws; Bernice and Florence Hall both of Exeter, NE and Lucille Hall of Sun City, AZ.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, 4 brothers; Evan, Lloyd (and his wife Dorothy), Howard and Ray Hall; her sister Mabel (and her husband Tommy)Byrum; her nephew Don Hall.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Waco United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ralph Ford. Burial will be in the Waco cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will begin 5 p.m. Monday and family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Mortuary.
