Jerry D. Mathers

Lincoln resident, 67

Jerry Dean Mathers, 67, of Lincoln died Thursday, May 8, 2003 in Lincoln.

He was born March 5, 1936 in Wynot. He taught school for 26 years at Springfield-Platteview, Lyons, Winnebago and McCool Junction public schools. He served as a board member for the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. He received a heart transplant in 1990 and was grateful for 13 more years of life.

He is survived by his mother, Marie Mathers of San Diego, Calif.; his father, Howard Mathers of Hartington; a brother, Ricky and his wife Kathy Mathers of San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Darlene Miller of Brea Calif.,

Shelley and her husband Dan Thomas of Folsom, Calif.; his daughter, Charlynn and her husband Douglas Church of Palmyra; his son Guy and his wife Cindy Mathers of Lincoln; daughter Colleen and her husband Steve Sampson of Norfolk; daughter Julie and her husband Jeff Stading of Eagle; son Rex Mathers of Lincoln; daughter Angie and her husband Mike Lowe of Arlington.

Twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his former wife Phyllis Garvey.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Metz Chapel in York. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m.

Tuesday at the Obert cemetery, Obert, NE. Visitation begins Monday at 1 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Metz. Memorials may be directed to the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame or to the family.

Metz Mortuary in York is in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor N. Gloystein

Utica resident, 77

Eleanor N. Gloystein, 77, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at her home in Utica.

She was born March 15, 1926, in York. She graduated from Utica High School in 1944. She married Lawrence Gloystein on March 28, 1948, at St. John Lutheran Church in Waco. They farmed south of Utica. Eleanor was a waitress for 16 years at the Flying V in Utica.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence; sons, Lynn (Kathy) Gloystein of Henderson, Robert (Annette) Gloystein of Exeter, Douglas (Alice) Gloystein of Hastings; brother, Norman (Dorothy) Blum of Wheatland, Wyo.; foster brother-in-law, Charles Zemke of Newell, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Vera Blum of Benedict, Bell Blum of Big Sandy, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Ruth Gloystein of Utica, Hubert Gloystein of Utica, Jerry and Dorothy Heiden of Waco; nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anna (Zweig) Blum; four brothers, Lawrence, Victor, Alfred and Harold Blum; foster sister, Ruth Zemke.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2003, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica with the Rev. Robert Gadeken officiating. Burial was in Utica cemetery. Visitation, at which time family will meet friends and relatives, will be on Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Volzke Mortuary in Seward.

Ben Beier

California resident, 89

Ben Beier, 89, of Victorville, Calif., died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Victorville.

He was born Aug. 19, 1912, in Saskatchewan, Canada. Ben was raised in Henderson where he worked on many farms in the area and attended and graduated from the Henderson schools. He married Lucie Friesen on April 27, 1941. He also served briefly in the military during World War II.

Ben and Lucie established their home in South Gate, Calif., where they raised their family and had many friends. Ben was a member of the Immanual Mennonite Church in Downey, Calif., for 60 years. He served as church treasurer for many of those years. He worked for Chrysler Corporation as a production manager for 35 years as well as managing several department stores.

Survivors include his wife Lucie of Victorville; daughter, Beverly Beier of Roseburg, Ore.; son, Terry Beier of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Wylie, Kylie and Carrie, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two sisters, Mary Smith and Helen Friesen, both of Henderson.

Graveside services will be held on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Bethesda Mennonite cemetery at Henderson with the Rev. George Kaufman officiating. Metz Mortuary of Henderson is in charge of arrangements.* *

Mary I. "Dot" Fuller

Mary I. "Dot" Fuller, 93, of York, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at York. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

LaVerne Peterson

LaVerne Peterson, 91, of York, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at York. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York

Ella M. Erks

Utica resident, 86

Ella M. Erks, of Utica, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003.

She was born June 22, 1916, the daughter of August and Margareta Lubbe. She married Herman G. Erks. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica and the Merry Mixers Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Howard, and a sister Hulda Dey.

She is survived by her daughters, Margie (Maurice) Sergent of Columbus, Joyce (Frank) Schmidt of Lincoln; son, Ronald (Beverly) Erks of Utica; three grandchildren and their spouses, Phillip and Dawn Sergent, Paul and Karent Sergent and Jean and Todd Holt; three great-grandchildren, Jessica and Justin Sergent and Cora Holt; sister, Erma Haberman of York; sister-in-law, Martha Peterson of Seward; brother-in-law Elmer Erks of Seward; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., on Friday, May 30, at the Wood-Zabka Funeral Home in Seward, with the family receiving friends from 6-7:30 p.m., and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 31, at St. Paul Lutheran Chruch in Utica. The officiant will be Rev. Rob Gadeken. Burial will be at the Immanuel Luthearn cemetery north of Utica.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice or in care of the family.

Lydia Dawn

York resident, 72

Lydia Dawn, 72, of York, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at York. She was born Nov. 13, 1930, at Ventura, Calif. to Henry W. and Isabella (Calvert) Dawn. She attended high school and college in California and worked as a legal transcriptionist. Upon her retirement she moved to York to be near her family and worked part-time for the York County Public Defenders Office.

Lydia is survived by her brother, John and his wife, Grace Dawn, of San Jose, Calif.; her sister, Helen Hallman of Sierra City, Calif.; her brother-in-law, Albert Brehm of York; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a son, Michael Sanderson, her sister, Ruth Brehm and an infant sister.

There will be no service, but Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Jones

York resident, 79

Margaret M. Jones, age 79, of York, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at York.

She was born in York on May 4, 1924 to Carl and Olga (Hoffman) Schall. She attended Waco School District 45 and on May 8, 1942, she was married to Ivan W. Jones at Waco. They farmed near Waco for several years and then moved to California in 1952 where they spent most of their married lives.

Ivan died in June of 1994. Margaret returned to York in 2000. She was a member of the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Mission Viejo, Calif.

Margaret is survived by her son Bradley and his wife Jeannie Jones of

Temecula, Calif.; six grandchildren, Jodie Jones, Christy Covey, Julie Jones, Ryan Jones, Laurie Gorman and David Nelson; eight grand-children. Also surviving are her brother Duane and Elaine Schall of Helendale, Calif., and her sister Ardith and Tommy Thompson of Glendale, Ariz.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, daughter Sharon and sister Geraldine.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 1, at 1 p.m. at the Metz Chapel in York with the Rev. Tim Marshall. Burial will be in the Waco cemetery. Visitation will begin Saturday at noon.

Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.

Susie A. Pankratz

Henderson resident, 85

Susie A. Pankratz, 85, of Henderson, widow of Oliver W. Pankratz, died on Monday afternoon, May 20, 2002, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete as of press-time. A complete obituary notice will appear in a future edition. Lewis Funeral Chapel of Henderson is in charge of arrangements.

Nettie Friesen

Henderson resident, 87

Nettie Friesen, 87, of Henderson died Monday, May 27, 2002, in Henderson.

She was born July 20, 1914, in York County to John L. and Helen (Klippenstein) Mierau. She married Gustav O. Friesen on Sept. 26, 1933, in Henderson and was a homemaker. Gustav died in 1985. Nettie was a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.

She is survived by three daughters, Jennie Peters and Shirley (Wallace) Friesen, both of Henderson, and Julie (Ronald) Kasper of Topeka, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Radio Broadcast Fund. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Wednesday, at Metz Mortuary in Henderson.

Tony Tiritilli

Waco resident, 44

Tony Tiritilli, 44, of Waco died on May 26, 2002.

He was born Oct. 13, 1957. He was the owner/manager of Hunter's Lounge and Keno at Waco. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 1024, York, a member of ABATE of Nebraska and a lifetime member of Harley Owner's Group.

He is survived by his life partner, Pam Sackschewsky of Waco; his father and stepmother, Thomas R. Sr. and Elaine Tiritilli of Bullhead City, Ariz.; his mother, Marcella Mahar of Lincoln; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert of Tucson, Ariz., Thomas R. Jr. and Sherry Tiritilli of Lincoln, Kenny and Shawn Tiritilli of Lincoln, Scott Mahar of Lincoln; sister and brother-in-law, Christina and Cole Foster of Lincoln; stepbrother, Charles Sybert of Lincoln; stepsister and spouse, Pamela and Daniel Moravec of Seward; step-grandmother, Verna O'Riley of Seward; numerous aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; a great-niece; cousins; mother-in-law, Cenie Sackschewsky of Waco; sister-in-law and spouse, Christi and Kirt Sharp of Waco; and brother-in-law and spouse, Tim and Linda Sackschewsky of Seward.

There will be cremation. The signing of the Remembrance Book will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30, and from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday, May 31, and one hour prior to the service. The memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Wood-Zabka Funeral Home, Seward, with the Rev. Ralph Sackschewsky officiating.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice in care of the family.* * *

Mable Lorene Wesely

Lincoln resident, 87

Mabel Lorene Wesely, 87, of Lincoln died Friday, May 24, 2002, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lincoln.

She was born Oct. 24, 1914, in Boone, Iowa, to Marion Matthias and Mary Helena (Winegard) Schlicht. She attended and graduated from Pilot Mount High School in Pilot Mount, Iowa, in 1933. She was united in marriage to Virgil Warak on Oct. 30, 1935, in Mount Pilot. They moved to Lincoln in 1956. Virgil died in 1965.

Mable worked as a bookkeeper at Walgreens for 20 years before retiring in 1974. On April 15, 1974, she was married to Rudolph Wesely in Cedar Bluffs, Neb. Rudolph died in 1987.

Mable was a member of the East Lincoln Christian Church and a past member of the Does (Elks organization).

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Virgil Warak and Rudy Wesely; infant sister; a sister, Grace Claybaugh, and three brothers, Fred, Orin and Dewey.

She is survived by her children, Dwight (Diane) Warak Sr. of Omaha, and LaVonne (Jerry) Elfring of York; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Norma Schlicht of Perry, Iowa.

Celebration of Life is being held today (Tuesday, May 28) at 11 a.m. at the Federated Church in Sutton with the Rev. Ralph Ford officiating. Burial will be in the Sutton cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family.
