Warren Clark

Stromsburg resident, 83

Warren Allen Clark, 83 of Lincoln and former longtime York resident and businessman, died at his home in Lincoln on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004.

Warren was born at York on June 10, 1920 to Ora L. and Nolah (Allen) Clark. He was a 1938 graduate of York High School and 1943 graduate of the University of Nebraska with a BS in Civil Engineering. In June of 1943 he went to Washington D.C., and worked with the Navy in the Hydrographic Office as an oceanographer until he joined the Army in October of 1944. While in Washington D.C., he met and married Nettie Marsh from Texas on Feb. 19, 1944. In the Army he served in the European Theater and Ft. Monroe, Va. He and his family returned to York in April of 1947 and with his dad, started the O.L. Clark and Son Construction Co. and also the O.L. Clark and Son Lumber Yard. They developed the Arbor Heights, Arbor Court, Country Club Heights and Olympic Gardens additions to the city of York. Warren's community service included service on the York City Council, Board of Adjustment, Planning Commission and Board of Public Works. He was past president of the York Country Club and served as president to the Greenwood cemetery in York for 23 years. Warren had managed one of York's semi-pro baseball teams, managed Little League Baseball teams and served as an officer for the York Sharks Swim Team. He also had been a member of the York Drum and Bugle Corp, York Masonic Lodge, Shrine & Shrine Clown Unit, York American Legion, VFW, York Elks Lodge and had served as treasurer for Boy Scout Troup 173. Warren had been a longtime member of the Baptist-Congregational Church in York and later joined the First Presbyterian Church in York. He currently was a member of the Southern Heights Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. Warren and his wife Nettie moved to Lincoln in April of 2002.

Warren is survived by his wife Nettie of Lincoln and their three children -- sons Richard and his wife Cathy Clark of Kingwood, Texas, Robert and his wife Liz of Wilber, and daughter Connie and her husband Robert Bergman of Lincoln; grandchildren, Shawn Clark, Courtney (Tony) Piccoli, Gabe (Tanya) Korn, Adam (Jennifer) Korn and Sarah Bergman; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Delmer (Alice) Clark of Forsyth, Mo., and Lloyd (Theo) Clark of Ft. Collins, Colo.; brother-in-law Eugene Marsh of Janesville, Calif., and sister-in-law Dell Hanover of Calvert, Texas.

Warren has been cremated and there will be a memorial service on Friday at the Metz Chapel in York at 2 p.m. Inurnment will follow at the Greenwood cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Greenwood cemetery, Madonna Rehab Hospital or your favorite charity. Condolences may be emailed to metz@metzmortuary.com.

Nancy Jorgensen

Curtis resident, 63

Nancy Jorgensen, 63, of Curtis, Neb., formerly of Lexington, died Friday, March 12, 2004 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Neb.

She was born at Stromsburg on Sept. 23, 1940 to Lee R. and Pearl Edith (Granere) Price.

Nancy attended school at McCool Junction where she graduated in 1958. She attended Kearney State College for two years. On May 29, 1960, she married Hugh Jorgensen and the couple moved to the Lexington area and in 1976 moved into Lexington from the country.

She was employed by Pamida for many, many years, Wal-Mart for 14 years and Karre City Bakery while living in Lexington. She retired in 2000 when she moved to Curtis to be near her daughter and grandchildren.

Nancy loved attending Medicine Valley sporting events, reading, crocheting, sewing, playing the piano and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be truly missed.

Survivors include three daughters, Bev Jones and fiance Scott Rollenhagen of Curtis, Candy Jones of Curtis and Edith Huffman of Driggs, Idaho; one sister, Bonnie (Larry) LaMay of Omaha; uncle and aunt, Jack and Joan Stuckey of Lexington; ten grandchildren, Brian, James and Rebecca Watkins, Mike, Andy and Brett Jones of Curtis, Jeremy (Mary) Jones of Grand Island, Mike, Andy and Brett Jones of Curtis, Shaunna, Lauretta and Abigail Huffman of Broken Bow; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee Jones, Elijah Huffman and Jessica Glinsman; and niece, Cheri (Joe) Wilson of Lawrence, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh, Oct. 5, 1997, and a nephew, Doug LaMay.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with family members officiating the service. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 16 at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to The Callahan Cancer Center at North Platte.

Pauline M. Clark

Tucson, Ariz. resident, 93

Pauline M. Clark, 93, died March 20, 2004. She was a graduate of St. Ursula School of York. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her children: Dale (Ellen) Clark of Lafayette, Colo., Donald (Linda) Clark of Tucson, Ariz., and Ann (Brian) Blue of Danville, Calif.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond (Marian) McCarty of Grants Pass, Ore., and Wilfred McCarty of Washington, D.C.; and brothers-in-law, Maurice Clark and Lyle Clark of York. Preceding her were her husband of 58 years, Jerome Clark.

A funeral service was held at Adair Funeral Home in Tucson, Ariz., on March 25, 2004. Interment at Holy Home cemetery in Tucson, Ariz.

Shirley M. Corbin

York resident, 81

Shirley M. Corbin, 81, of York and the widow of Melvin Daryl Corbin, died Saturday, March 26, 2004 at Lincoln.

She was born Feb. 27, 1923 at Austin, Minn., to Clarence and Maggie Evelyn (Ingalls) Thorp and was a member of St. Olaf's Lutheran Church in Austin. Her joy in life was her daughter, sons and her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons: Michael (Janet) Wilkins and Gary (Ginger) Wilkins, all of Geneva; one daughter, Janice (Jerry) Stuck of York; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Chuck Thorpe of California, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband; five brothers and one sister.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, April 1, 2004 at the Metz Chapel in York. Private family inurnment will take place at a later time in Minnnesota. Memorials may be directed to the family. There will be no visitation as her body was cremated. Condolences may be emailed in care of metz@metzmortuary.com

Cordell "Corky" Lewis

Cumberland County, Tenn. resident, 72

Cordell "Corky" Lewis, 72, of Cumberland County, Tenn., died March 18, 2004. Funeral services were conducted March 21 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home with burial in Smith Chapel cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Tenn. Bro. A. Watkins and Bro. Randy Norris officiated.

He was born Sept. 12, 1931 in Cumberland County, the son of Charles Ervin and Bertha Mae Seals Lewis.

He was a retired iron worker and a member of the Iron Workers Union. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and loved the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Page Lewis of Cumberland County; son, Charles Lewis of York; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Greg Saltzman of Lushton, Teresa Lewis and Ed Anderson, Karen and Joe Pfeffer, Susan and Jeff West and Connie Williams, all of York.; brother, Ed Lewis of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; sisters, Christine Agee of Crossville, Lola Norris of Crossville and Thema Salvage of Fairborn, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers, Ralf Lewis and Herman Lewis.

Pallbearers were Jeff West, Joe Bohannon, Ed Anderson, David Anderson, Greg Saltzman and Lawrence Bohannon.

Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ervin John Windhorst

Deshler resident, 91

Ervin John Windhorst, the son of Henry and Verbena (Hofts) Windhorst, was born on a farm near Byron, Neb. on October 22, 1912. He passed away on March 25, 2004, at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, Neb., at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 3 days. He was one of six children born to his parents.

Ervin was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, northwest of Byron. He attended Riber School District #91 and Ruskin High School through eighth grade.

He was united in marriage to Agnes Daisy Ocobock July 19, 1935, at the United Brethren Church in Republic, Kan. This union was blessed with two children, Darlene Irene and Darrell Lee.

In younger days Ervin helped on the family farm and later worked as a broom winder at the Deshler Broom Factory. The family moved to Wichita, Kan., in 1940 where Ervin worked at Boeing Aircraft for five years. In 1947, after the war, he moved his family back home to Deshler, where Ervin was employed by Galmore Construction for some time. In 1955 he went to work for Richard Reinke as plant superintendent at Reinke Manufacturing, Inc. in Deshler, Neb. At the time of his retirement from Reinke Manufacturing, in April of 1981, Ervin had worked at Reinke's for 27+ years. He was a dedicated employee and enjoyed his work.

In younger years, Ervin enjoyed playing baseball, traveling and watching sporting events on television. Ervin and Agnes enjoyed going to dances. He was a devoted father and grandfather.

He was a past member of the Lion's Club; a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler and was a faithful member, serving on the church council, was an usher and head usher for two years. Ervin was admitted to Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler on July 31, 2000.

He is survived by his son, Darrell Windhorst and wife, Gerry of Stromsburg; seven grandchildren, David Fintel and wife, Judith of Deshler; Mary Rauner and husband, Jim of Hebron; Patricia Giangrosso of Cooper City, Fla.; Daniel Fintel of Deshler; Brenda Clark and husband, Ken of Benedict; Shelly Gruber and husband Clark of Waco; and Amy Habermann and husband, Gregg of Utica; nine great-grandchildren: Justin Rauner and wife, Diane of Blue Springs, Mo.; Sarah Rauner of Springfield, Mo.; Aaron Fintel and wife, Jen of Hordville; Derek Fintel of Stillwell, Okla.; Dalton Clark and Trevor Clark of Benedict; Courtney Gruber of Waco; Heath Habermann and Lance Habermann of Utica; step grandchildren: Angela Evans and husband Doug of Waverly; Jeff Gustafson of Lincoln; step great-grandchildren: Tyler Evans, Erik Evans and Annika Evans, all of Waverly; two brothers, Eldon Windhorst and wife, Luella of Hebron, and Roy Windhorst and wife, Jennie of Deshler; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, Neb., with Rev. Phillip Nielsen officiating. The congregation sang "Amazing Grace" and "Just A Closer Walk" and "I'll Never Walk Alone" was sung by Wayne Pohlmann. Julia Pohlmann served as the accompanist.

Pallbearers were Lyle Anderson, Roy Windhorst, Jr., Robert Harms, Gene Windhorst, Russell Reinke and Robert Reinke. Honorary bearers were Phil Gregory, Vic Johnson, Willis Kettlehut and LaVon Bohling.

Interment was in the Deshler City cemetery at Deshler, Neb.

Memorials have been established in care of the family.

Anna Peters Siebert

Anna Peters Siebert, 94, of Henderson, NE, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Henderson.

She was born June 5, 1909 in York County, NE to John D. and Katharina (Wieler) Peters and was a member of Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Anna enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and all kinds of games. She was also a member of Mission Circle One and enjoyed attending the MCC Sales.

On Dec. 13, 1928, she was married to Peter P. Siebert near Aurora, NE.

Surviving are two sons, Darrel (Eleanor) Siebert of LaVerne, Minn., and Elvin Siebert of Omaha; four daughters, Darlene (Richard) Janzen of Butterfield, Minn.., Esther (Lowell) Fox of Lincoln, Carol (Arlen) Epp of Elkhart, N.D., and Aldena Siebert of Henderson; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her were her parents; husband; two sons; six brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Rev. Weldon Martens officiating. Burial will be in the Bethesda cemetery near Henderson.

Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Radio Broadcast or to the Henderson Health Care Center.

Visitation begins after 1 p.m., Saturday at Metz Mortuary inHenderson.

Donald L. Maggart

Donald L. Maggart of Wintergarden, Fla., formerly of York, 83, died Friday, April 2, 2004.

He was born in Lincoln, NE to Fred and Marie (Sturdy) Maggart on Dec. 11, 1920. Don graduated from Seneca, NE high school in 1939. He served in the Navy in World War II. He married Erma Virdena Moninger in January, 1941.

After the war, Don held jobs in Alliance and Hastings working for A. H. Jones automotive dealerships. He later worked in North Platte, Lincoln and Omaha for Pegler and later at Magees in Lincoln where he retired in 1982.

Surviving are his wife, Erma; son, Donn David (Laura) Maggart of Ocoee, Fla.; daughter, Donna (Merle) Ehlers of York; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ivan Maggart of Scottsbluff and Duane Maggart of Houston, Texas; and sister, Velma Moore of Los Angeles, Calif.

Preceding him were his parents and eldest son, Richard Maggart.

Memorial service is planned for April 7, 2004 in Wintergarden, Fla. Condolences may be sent to his wife at Golden Pond Communities, 400 Lakeview Road, Wintergarden, Fla. 34787.

Gerald (Pots) Potter

Memorial services for Gerald (Pots) Potter will be held on Sunday, April 5 in Beaver Crossing. Services will begin at 1 p.m., and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the cemetery.
