Betty volunteered her time in a number of organizations throughout her life, United Methodist Women and one of her favorites, Meals on Wheels. Betty was a gifted writer, fascinated with genealogy, history and world events, who wrote a weekly column for the Seward County Independent recounting the history of Utica. The columns were later compiled into a book entitled "Burlington Red: Her Early Years." She was active in the Seward County Historical Society and continued her own genealogical research until shortly before her death.
