Henrietta J. Harre

Exeter resident, 94

Henrietta J. Harre, age 94, died Saturday, April 10, 2004 in Exeter, Nebraska.

Henrietta, the widow of Peter Jerome Harre, was born to Robert and Josephine (Nevin) Roeser on May 23, 1909 at Exeter, Ne.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Kathleen Harre, of Exeter, Joseph and Diane Harre of Exeter, John and Ruth Harre of Omaha, Noel and Cindy Harre of Bellevue; daughters, Anna Marie Williamsen of San Anselmo, Ca., Josephine "Jody" and Walter Senter of Santa Clara, Ca., Monica and Norm Bristol of Exeter; brother and sister-in-law Robert E. "Bud" and Patrica Roeser of San Anselmo, Ca.; 28 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Exeter, Ne. with Father Kenneth Borowiak officiating. Graveside services will be held at Exeter Cemetery. Rosary service will take place at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Farmer Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen's Church of the Exeter Library.

Esther A. Schlueter

Waco resident, 90

Esther A. Schlueter, 90, of Waco died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at York.

She was born south of Waco on Jan. 3, 1913, to Henry and Katherine (Schlechte) Stuhr. Esther was married to Walter H. Schlueter at York on Feb. 1, 1934, and they lived and farmed east of Waco. Walter died in March of 1977. Esther was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Waco.

Survivors are her three children: Stanley and his wife Jo Schlueter of York, Donald and his wife Cheri Schlueter of Waco, and Shirley and her husband Daniel Anderson of Bristol, Ill. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and her brother Loren and his wife Mary Jean Stuhr of Rising City. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, great-granddaughter and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church south of Waco with the Rev. Paul Kern. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will begin Monday at 5 p.m. at Metz Mortuary. Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.

William H. (Bill) Peterson

Leavenworth, KS resident, 82

William H. (Bill) Peterson, 82, Leavenworth, KS, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at St. John Hospital.

He was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on August 29, 1921 to Fred and Anna (Kreutz) Peterson. He graduated from East High School in Sioux City and served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1944. He then continued his education and graduated with a degree in economics from the University of South Dakota. He worked 31 years for Montgomery Ward and Co. as a manager in the accounting, tax and real estate departments. After retirement he resided in York, Neb., and Leavenworth, KS. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He married Barbara J. Beckord in Sioux City on April 8, 1944.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara at the home; one brother, Rev. T. C. Peterson, Duluth, Minn.; one sister, Lucille Peterson, Fort Wayne, Ind., and one sister-in-law, Gertrude Peterson, Marcus, Iowa; sons, William (Carol) Peterson Jr. of Lake Placido, Fla., Richard (Sharon) Peterson of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter, Jean (Ronald) Romig of Leavenworth, KS; five grandchildren, Matthew, Lynn and Anne Peterson, Rebecca and Laura Romig and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 16, 2004 at Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth, KS 66048, with the Rev. Tim Hutabarat officiating. Burial was in Mt. Muncie Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davis Funeral Chapel.

The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church of York, Neb. or to the First United Methodist Church of Leavenworth, KS.

Blake Hultquist

Iowa resident, 54

Blake Hultquist, 54, of Ireton, Iowa died Thursday, April 17, 2003 at his residence in Ireton following a battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 14, 1948 in York, Nebraska, the son of Ken and Betty (Haberman) Hultquist. He was baptized April 10, 1949 at the Presbyterian Congregational Church in York and confirmed at the Associated Church in Hawarden, Iowa and the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa. Blake graduated from the West Sioux High School in Hawarden in 1966 and attended University of South Dakota and South Dakota State University. He served with the US Marine Corps from Feb. 12, 1969 to Feb. 11, 1971.

He married Val Vreeman Aug. 17, 1973 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They made their home in Ireton where he was the office manager of Siouxland Propane. He was an Elder of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a Treasurer for the Ireton American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, bonfires, grilling out with family and friends and time spent with his family at the lakes.

Blake is survived by his parents, Ken and Betty Hultquist of Hawarden; his wife, Val; three children, Angela Fuller and husband Justin and their children, Ella and Maci of Rock Valley, Iowa, Ryan Hultquist currently attending Iowa State University in Ames and Austin Hultquist at home; a sister-in-law, Bev Hultquist of Brunsville, Iowa and her children Heidi and Beau; a brother, Brad Hultquist and wife Hillary of Chicago, Ill., and their children, Ian and Taylor; his parents-in-law, Bud and Delma Vreeman of Ireton; two brothers-in-law, Greg Vreeman and wife Genise of Ireton and Scott Vreeman and fiance Gina of Ireton; three sisters-in-law, Pam Everett and husband Mick of South Sioux City, Patti Benz and husband Bob of Friday Harbor, Wash., and Lisa Hanlon and husband Tom of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and many other nephews, nieces and dear friends.

Blake was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Hultquist.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 21, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton with Rev. Warren Prochnow officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton with Military Service by the Ireton American Legion Post #276. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Sunday, until 4:30 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Ireton. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. ***

Donita Wolsleben

Henderson resident, 75

Donita Wolsleben, age 75 of Henderson, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Henderson.

Donita was born Nov. 7, 1928 in the Somerford community near Sargent, Neb. to George and Mattie (Phrem) Wolsleben. She lived in Broken Bow, then Sargent until February 1992 when she became a resident of the Henderson Care Center.

She is survived by her sisters, Dorine (Harold) Youngland of York; and Dorothy Bruner of Grafton; her brother Robert (Dorothy) Wolsleben of Horseshoe Bend, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents and brother Richard.

Graveside services will be held Monday, April 19, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Somerford Cemetery with the Rev. Elton Berg officiating. No visitation. Metz Mortuary of York is handling the arrangements.

Robert E. Oberg

Stromsburg resident, 83

Robert E. Oberg, 83, of Stromsburg died Monday, April 19, 2004 at Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Calgary Swede Home Lutheran Church near Stromsburg with Pastor Donna Durrette officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites performed by the American Legion Post 132 of Stromsburg.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Masonic service, all at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.

He was born Nov. 10, 1920 southwest of Stromsburg to Edward and Clara (Samuelson) Oberg. He attended grade school and graduated from High Prairie High School in 1938. He then worked in Omaha and enlisted in the Army in august 1942, he went overseas in April 1943 and served in the Signal Company of the 37th Infantry Division. He served until 1945.

After receiving his discharge, he began farming. On Aug. 11, 1946 he married Vera Samuelson. They farmed in the Osceola and Stromsburg area. In 1993 they moved to Osceola and lived there until 1998 when the moved to Stromsburg.

Vera died July 12, 2002.

He was a member of the Calgary Swede Home Lutheran Church and had served on the church board, Polk County RPPD for 18 years, was an agent and served on the Board of the Scandenavia Insurance Company. He was a member of American Legion Post 132 of Stromsburg, the Stromsburg Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or Annie Jeffrey Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Loren (Sherry) Oberg and Lynn (Janice) Oberg, both of Stromsburg; one daughter, LuAnn (Dan) Damewood of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera; one son, Landin and one sister, Alice Peterson.

Palmer Funeral Home of Stromsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn Anderson

Polk resident, 66

Carolyn A. Anderson, 66, of Polk, died on Friday, April 18, 2003, at York General Hospital.

Carolyn was born on March 27, 1937, in Paxton to Isaac Lewis and Sarah Fern (Miller) Draucker. They lived in Sarben until Carolyn was 8 years old and they then moved to Benedict. Carolyn graduated from Benedict High School in 1954 and from Kearney State College with a degree in education. She taught in Chappell, Cozad, and Mesa, Ariz.

On Jan. 30, 1966, Carolyn A. Draucker and Leonard F. Anderson were united in marriage in Benedict. They lived in the Polk area where they farmed and Carolyn also did some substitute teaching and had worked for the Nebraska Department of Tourism for the last seven years.

Carolyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Polk and the UMW. She enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, music, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard of Polk; one daughter, Kerri (Jack) Garrison of Kearney; two sons, Alan F. Anderson of Chandler, Ariz., and Brad L. Anderson of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Garrison; one sister, Wanda Draucker of Omaha; and two cousins, Jerry (Barbara) Draucker and Carol (Kenny) Most, both of Ogallala.

She was preceded in death by her parents and half brother, Arnold Draucker.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Polk with the Revs. Anderson Kwankin and John Dale officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Cemetery. Visitation is Monday, April 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Polk.

Elmore Hanson

Stromsburg resident, 86

Elmore Hanson, 86, of Stromsburg died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church. The Rev. Bob Johnson will officate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.

Helen Ernestine Otte

Omaha resident, 56

Helen Ernestine Otte, 56, of Omaha died April 17, 2003, in Omaha. She was born on March 29, 1947, in Newport, R.I.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Otte; sister, Patricia (Thomas) Kypers; stepmother, Mrs. Eugene Tougas; many nieces and nephews and grand nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Ann Catholic Church at 114th and Fort St., Omaha. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Omaha. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm. Monday at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th St., Omaha. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Roeder Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family.***

William G. "Bill McGaffin

York resident 85

Bill McGaffin died Sunday, April 18, 2004 in York.

He was born may 24, 1918 at Bellwood, NE to George and Mary (Brown) McGaffin. Bill was a 1937 graduate of York High School and joined the National Guard in 1940 and served the U.S. Army during WWII with time in the European Theater. He was married in 1942 to Helen Snyder in King City, CA. They had one daughter, Sherry. In 1963 he married Martha (Barnes) Dietrich. Bill was a salesman for A.J. Dresden's in York and owned and operated Bills Liquors in York for 19 years. He retired from the York County Zoning Administration in 1983. He was a member of the V.F.W. #1609, York American Legion Bolton Post #19 and the York Elks Lodge # 1024. Bill was also a past member of the York Drum and Bugle Corp.

He is survived by his wife Martha of York; daughter Sherry (Terry) Tonniges of Gresham; 2 grandchildren, Nicole (Scott) McLaughlin, and Chad (Joy) Tonniges; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Lexi, Camryn and Riley; nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 1 brother and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Metz Chapel in York. Military grave side services will be held at the Bellwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the Bellwood Cemetery Association. Condolences may be emailed to metz@metzmortuary.com Metz Mortuary in York is handling arrangements.

Dennis Wood

California resident, 71

Dennis L. Wood, age 71 of Moorpark, CA, died Friday, April 16, 2004 at his home in California. He was born August 24, 1932 at Carthage, NY to Leroy A. and Mary G. (Adner) Wood. Dennis was a graduate of Syracuse University and was a biblical scholar and a devote Christian. He was a brilliant and honest man and a beloved father and brother. He is survived by his son Bruce; step daughter Dawn; his brothers Paul, Melvin & Alfred and his sister Ruth; four grandchildren. Also surviving is his mother-in-law Helen Shaw of York Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife Jeannine.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Exeter Cemetery, Exeter, NE. No visitation. Metz Mortuary of York is handling arrangements.

Clarice Floreen

Bradshaw native, 96

Clarice Ethel Larson Floreen, 96, of San Francisco, Calif., formerly of St. Peter, Minn., died Nov. 27, 2002, in Coming Home Hospice.

Born in Bradshaw on Aug. 12, 1906, to Charles and Emma (Sandall) Larson, she attended country school and Bradshaw High School. After receiving her teaching certificate from York College in 1926, she taught in both schools she had attended. In 1932, she graduated from Immanuel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, Omaha, with an R.N. She worked for most of the next 43 years doing private duty in hospitals. She retired in 1975.

In 1933 Clarice married Harold Theodore Floreen in Lincoln. Together they lived in Cheyenne, Wyo.; Salt Lake City, Utah; Wahoo, Neb.; Rock Island, Maywood and Chicago in Illinois; North Bergen, Palisades Park and Teaneck in New Jersey; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; St. Peter, Minn. In 1997, after Harold's death, she moved to San Francisco, Calif., to be near her daughter Hali.

After retirement Clarice volunteered with Meals on Wheels, St. Peter Regional Treatment Center, St. Peter Hospital and American Red Cross Blood Mobile. Her faith was nourished by her church, First Lutheran Church, and by a Bible study group at Gustavus Adolphus College. She was an avid reader, tireless letter writer and gifted quilter. She loved to travel, visit family and help her children and grandchildren. Her sense of humor and zest for life were evident until her death.

Clarice was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Edith (Fred) Sandall; her brothers, Walter, Roy (Florence), Alvin Larson; and her beloved husband, Harold.

She is survived by daughters Ann (Robert) Niedringhaus of Duluth, Minn., and Hali Niedringhaus; numerous nieces and nephews and loving friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, in First Lutheran Church, St. Peter, Minn. Memorials may be given to ELCA World Hunger.
