Carolyn Meinberg

Lincoln resident, 56

Carolyn Marie Meinberg, 56, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, in Lincoln. She was born October, 4, 1947, in York, Nebraska and has lived in Lincoln since 1968. Carolyn was a member of Indian Hills Community Church.

She is survived by: brother and sister-in-law, Alden & LaVerna Quiring, Henderson, NE; step-mother, Emma Quiring, Regina, Canada; niece, nephews, and spouses, Lynette & Jim Cross, Hesston, KS; Lonnie & Lisa Quiring, Henderson, NE; Craig & Christine Quiring, Bradshaw, NE; Jason & Nicole Quiring, Fairview, Oklahoma; eight great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: husband, Robert; parents, John J. and Sarah (Janzen) Quiring; niece Cheryl Quiring.

Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Indian Hills Community Church, 1000 S. 84th Street, Lincoln.

Graveside services will take place at1:00 p.m., Saturday, at Henderson Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, Henderson, NE.

A memorial fund has been established in Carolyn's memory to Indian Hills Community Church.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 25, 2004, Noon - 8:00 p.m. at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home, 5200 R Street, Lincoln, NE.

Velma Bamesberger

Aurora resident, 86

Velma Arline Babesberger, daughter of Albert Carl and Alma Louise Emma (Klute) Kamtz, was born in Hampton NE. on December 3, 1917, and died in Aurora NE, June 16, 2004 at the age of 86.

She grew up in the rural Hampton area, Velma attended Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Hampton High School. After high school she did house work for others in the Hampton area.

Velma was united in marriage to Louis Otto Bamesberger on April 13. 1941, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Velma was a devoted wife and loving mother. She loved gardening and enjoyed her flowers, and belonged to the Aurora Garden Club. She loved quilting for her children and grandchildren.

Velma was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Ladies Aid, the church choir and a member of several Bible study groups. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years and was a member of the Hamilton Manor Auxiliary for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Louis of Aurora; five children, Kathleen (Gwynuel) Johnson of Hampton, LaVerne (Gloria) Bamesberger of Marquette, Eugene (Petra) Bamesberger of Hampton, Dale "Red" (Karen) Bamesberger of Hampton and Dean (Susan) Bamesberger of Hampton; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 30th at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. George E. Damn will officiate. Internment will be in the Hampton Cemetery. visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.

Edith E. Thelen

Shelby resident, 84

Edith E. Thelen, age 84, of Shelby passed away June 26, 2004 at David Place in David City, NE. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred heart Catholic Church in Shelby. Father John Rooney will be officiating. Lector will be Pat Thomazin. Duet will be Erica Micek and Megan Armagost. Musical selections wll be by the Sacred heart Choir. Organist will be Avis Rathje. visitation will be Monday, June 28, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service followed by a Rosary at Roberts-Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola. Internment will be in the Sacred Heart cemetery in Shelby.

Edith was born on June 8, 1920 near Shelby, NE to Herman Joseph and Bertha Helen (Messing) Thelen. She attended District 67 grade school and then attended Nebraska City School for the Blind, graduating in 1937. After high school she worked at a packing house in Nebraska City, then moved to Omaha where she worked at Swanson's Soup factory. Edith later moved to Lincoln where she worked at a boarding house for 10 years.

On May 23, 1996 Edith moved to David Place Care Center in David City where she resided until her death. She was a member of Sacred heart Catholic Church, St Ann's Altar Society and the Nebraska Association for the Blind.

Survivors include one sister, Mary Rose Armagost of Shelby, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Richard and Lewis Thelen, and three sisters, Ethel Barry, Dorothy Selk and Loyola Cerny.

Roberts-Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola is in charge of arrangements.

Loran S. "Bud" Rogers

Crete resident, 93

Loran S. "Bud" Rogers, 93, of Crete, formerly of Utica, died June 26, 2004 at Crete Manor in Crete.

He was born June 14, 1911 near Waco and graduated from Utica High School in 1930. He farmed west of Utica and in 1982 retired and moved to Utica.

He married Elizabeth Howell on Dec. 25, 1931 and Martha Mailand on Dec. 30, 1978.

Surviving are a daughter, Lynette (Wilmer) Gierhan of Waco; four grandchildren, Tim, Deb, Barry and Kevin; 10 great-grandchildren; step sons, Roger (Sharon) Mailand of St. Louis, Mo., and Richard (Charleen) Mailand of Seward. Preceded in death by his wives, Elizabeth and Martha; parents, Charles Wake and Bertha (Hymas) Rogers; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rupert and Nellie Rogers and Harry and Leota Rogers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2004 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica with the Rev. Bob Paulson officiating. Burial will be in the Utica Cemetery. Casketbearers are Donald Olson, Otto Klundt, William Honnor, LaVern Stuhr, Garry Dittmar and Dennis Kohtz.

David T. Brock, Sr.

Louisburg, Kan. resident, 70

David Thomas Brock, Sr., 70, of Louisburg, Kan., died Monday, June 28, 2004 at his home. Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan. A celebration of David's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Olathe Church of Christ, 13875 West 151st Street, Olathe, Kan. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Runyan Funeral Home, 120 South Broadway, Louisburg, Kan.

Arrangements are by Runyan Funeral Home, Louisburg, Kan., 913-837-4310.

Pauline Dinkelman

York resident, 83

Pauline Dinkelman, age 83 of York, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at Fairmont. She was born July 14, 1920 at Utica, NE to Paul Otto and Minnie (Fischer) Hinze. Pauline was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at York. She married Paul H. Dinkelman on May 26, 1946 at Utica.

Pauline is survived by her son Stan Dinkelman of York; sister Geraldine (Erich) Knorr of Waco; brother Wilmer (Norma) Hinze of Seward, NE and brother-in-law Ervin (Lila) Dinkelman of York; nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and brother Clifford.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at York with the Rev. Timothy Marshall officiating. Burial will be in the York Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Metz Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences may be emailed to metz@metzmortuary.com.

Joshua Alexander Fouts

Joshua Alexander Fouts was born at rest Thursday, July 1, 2004 in Lincokn to Lindsay R. Epperson and Darryn Fouts. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday, July 5, 2004 with Pastor Chris Lake officiating, at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva. No public visitation. Graveside services will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Geneva. Memorials in care of the family.

Surviving are half-sister, Amber Fouts of Lincoln; grandparents, Todd and Barb Anderson of York, Everrette and Patty Epperson of Geneva and Dee Fouts of Bellevue; aunts and uncle.

Bernice E. Harriman

York resident, 87

Bernice E. Harriman, age 87, of York, died Friday, July 2, 2004 at Seward. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary, York.

Arlene Rempel

Henderson resident, 71

Arlene Doris Rempel was born on August 15, 1932 to Pete O. and Helen Bergen Friesen on a farm southwest of Aurora near Harvard, Nebraska. The Lord called her home on Monday, June 28, 2004 at the age of 71 years.

She was baptized and accepted into the fellowship of Bethesda Mennonite Church in May 1950, where she remained a faithful member during her life on earth. She enjoyed participating in Mission Circle, serving on the social committee and embroidering, and teaching Sunday School. Walt & Arlene were youth leaders and served on the MCC Canner social committee. Arlene attended school at District #28, South of Aurora, finishing the 8th grade. She attended Henderson High School and graduated in 1950. She would stay with her Grandparents Bergen during the week and go home for weekends, because they lived 12 miles from town. After high school, Arlene married her high school sweetheart, Walter Rempel, on August 31, 1950. Walt & Arlene had a Shaklee store in Aurora for a few years. After their farm sale in 1986, they went to Siloam Springs, Arkansas, where they were custodians at Day Spring Greeting Cards. They came back to the farm again in 1987. Arlene began working as a Certified Nurse Aid, working the night shift in

Long-Term Care and the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. When they moved to Henderson in 1991, she began working at the Henderson Nursing Home until June 2002 when cancer came into her life. She thoroughly enjoyed caring for the residents.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Walt of Henderson, five children and spouses: Joyce and Ron Friesen of Aurora, Carol and Royce Janzen of Henderson, LaVerne and Lynda (Mjeldheim) Rempel of Aurora, Connie & Melvin Friesen of Aurora, Lynette & Rod Jost of Hillsboro, KS, fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Michelle & Keith Kennedy, Drew & Jesse of Lakewood, CO; Joel & Mary Friesen & Greyson of Lincoln; Rick Friesen of Lincoln; Jay Dee & Wendy Janzen of Henderson; Brad & Kara Janzen of Newton, KS; Scott Janzen of Henderson; Jarrod, Tyler & Kelsey Rempel of Aurora; Brandon & Carmen Friesen of Moundridge, KS; Travis Friesen of Aurora; Jenna, Josh & Allie Jost of Hillsboro, KS. Also surviving are her brother, LeRoy V. and Marion Friesen of Henderson; sister, Kathleen & Dennis Unruh of Wichita, KS, and sisters and brothers-in-law Esther & Pete Wall of Henderson, Elizabeth & Levi H. Friesen of Aurora, John & Delores Rempel of Henderson, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents Pete O. & Helen Friesen, infant brother, Allen Dean, son-in-law, Calvin Epp, step-father Reinhart J. Peters.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 10:00 am at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Rev. Weldon Martens. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Henderson Care Center. Visitation will begin Tuesday at 9:00 am at Metz Mortuary in Henderson.

Arthur D. Hough

Grand Island resident, 81

Arthur D. Hough, 81, of Grand Island, died Wednesday morning, June 30, 2004 at his home following a long illness.

Graveside services will be held Friday, July 2, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grand Island Cemetery with the Rev. Nancy Lambert officiating. There will be no public visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Family's choice. Livingston - Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur was born June 10, 1923 at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Darius and Faustina (Daugherty) Hough. He received his education in Miller, Neb., graduating in 1940. He was united in marriage to Vera N. Cool in 1942 in Phillipsburg, Kan.

On Aug. 6, 1943 he entered the U.S. Navy and served until his discharge on Dec. 22, 1945. He received the Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon while serving in the Navy.

Following his discharge from the Navy, the couple lived in Miller, Hastings, Kearney and Alma before coming to Grand Island. He was employed at New Holland for over 20 years retiring in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, traveling in his RV, woodworking and was an avid coin collector and collected belt buckles.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, VFW Club, Alma Volunteer Fire Department, Rolling Eagles Camping Club and an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #378 being a trustee held numerous positions and offices. He was selected father of the year for the Eagles for 2002-03.

Survivors include his wife, Vera; one daughter, Deanna (Mike) Thompson of Poulsbo, Wash.; three sons, Jimmy (Linda) Hough of Grand Island, Donald (Cheryl) Hough of Kearney and Marlyn (Jane) Hough of York; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents and brother, Carson.

Bernice Harriman

York resident, 87

Bernice E. Harriman, age 87, of York, died Friday, July 2, 2004 at Seward. She was born September 11, 1916 near Arborville to Charles and Mary (Standish) Piper. She is survived by one son Don (Kathie) Hansen of Seattle, WA; one daughter, Kathy (David) Howton of Mesa, AZ; seven grandchildren, Shelly Atwood, Bob Hansen, both of Seattle, Cindy Boucher of Glendale, AZ, Kenneth McCartney of Seward, NE, Yvonne Eschenweck of York, Patricia Coy of Bradshaw, NE and Russell Vassar of Fairmont, NE; 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Richard Harriman; 4 brothers. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 7th at 10:00 am at the Metz Chapel in York. Burial will be in the Arborville Cemetery near Polk.

Marvin Ratzlaff

Henderson resident, 81

Marvin H. Ratzlaff, 81 of Henderson, NE died Monday, July 05, 2004 in Henderson. He was born October 15, 1922 near Henderson to Henry J. and Anna (Janzen) Ratzlaff. Marvin was a 1942 graduate of Henderson High School and married Edna Friesen on June 19, 1945 in Henderson. He was a longtime Henderson area farmer before retirement. Edna died in June of 2000. Marvin was a member of Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.

Survivors include two sons, Ralph (Glenell) Ratzlaff and Philip (Theresa) Ratzlaff both of Henderson; one daughter, Mary (Terry) Havenridge of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Caitlin, Tyler and Brittany Ratzlaff, Stephen, Rachel and Elizabeth Havenridge; sisters, Elva (Sam) Quiring of Kansas, Zella Hubert, Alvina (L.G.) Devolt, Leanna (Levi) Peters and Violet Ratzlaff all of Henderson.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, one brother and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Henderson Care Center. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Metz Mortuary in Henderson. Condolences may be emailed to metz@metzmortuary.com. Metz Mortuary in Henderson is handling arrangements.
