Gerry Rodean Ray

York resident, 61

Gerry Rodean Ray, 61, died July 3, 2004 in York. He was born Dec. 4, 1944 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Howard Clifford and Ola Helen Carrender Ray.

He graduated from Oskaloosa high school in 1961. After high school he attended Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., before serving in the Air Force for four years. He married Kimberley Rene Rohr in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on June 26, 1984. To this union one son was born, Gerry Ryne.

Gerry attended Indian Hills College for chef baking school in Ottumwa, Iowa, where he developed a greater love for cooking. He loved to cook and feed family, friends and anyone who looked hungry.

He attended the Church of Christ in York and cooked at the camps for kids, retreats and college kids. Gerry loved people and loved to see that they were well fed.

He is survived by his son, Gerry Ryne of York and two brothers, Laroy of Cheney, Kan., and Max of Abilene, Texas; sister, Leora of Englewood, Fla., nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill; former wife Kim.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service was held July 5 at East Hills Church of Christ in York, at 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be in Oskaloosa, Iowa, at Bates Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 7. Burial will be at Belfountain Cemetery in Tracy, Iowa.

Rev. Kerry W. Andrews

York resident, 46

Rev. Kerry W. Andrews age 46 of York died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Lincoln.

He was born June 3, 1958 at Carthage, IL to Ward and Roslyn (Beyer) Andrews. He was a 1976 graduate of Aurora High School and then graduated from Doane College in 1980. Kerry was currently serving as pastor of New Heights Assembly of God Church in York. Prior to moving to York he was the associate pastor of the Abundant Life Christian Center at Grand Island. He also owned and operated a Ben Franklin store in Aurora from 1985-1988. He enjoyed participating in community theater in both the Aurora and York communities and singing in the 'LaCanerata' group in Grand Island for ten years. He currently served as President of the York Ministerial Alliance. On August 11, 1984 he was married to Linda Thiede at Grand Island.

He is survived by his wife Linda of York, son Taylor of York and a daughter Tessa also of York. His parents Ward and Roslyn Andrews of Aurora, two brothers, Keith and his wife Vicki Andrews of Defuniak Springs, FL., and Kent Andrews of Oakland, CA. His father and mother in law Orrin and his wife Joan Thiede of Springview, NE., A sister in law Cheri and her husband John Pauls of Colorado Springs, CO. Many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a nephew.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday at New Heights Assembly of God Church in York with the Rev. Robert Nazarenus officiating. There will be no viewing of the body however the family will greet friends and neighbors Thursday evening from 7:00 - 9:00 pm., at the mortuary. Closed casket visitation will begin after 1:00 p.m., Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Evalda Galaway

York resident, 77

Evalda Maxine Galaway, 77 of York, formerly of Fairmont, died Monday, July 5, 2004 in York. She was born August 6, 1926 at Paige, Nebraska to Floyd and Clara (Jordan) Haynes. Her father died when she was five years old.Eve's mother married Lawrence Nixon who became Eve's father and the family lived in McCool Junction, NE where Eve graduated from high school in 1944. Eve married LaVern Weis and to this union three children were born, Connie, Peggy and Michael.

On August 19, 1960 Eve married Joe Galaway in Recita, Calif. Two daughters, Susan and Nancy were born to this union. Joe and Eve made their home in Fairmont.

Eve worked at a variety of jobs over the years but will be remembered for her many years at Pizza Hut in York and for her volunteer work at the Emmanuel Lutheran School. "Grandma Eve" spent many hours listening to the children at the school read to her.

Eve enjoyed working on crafts; ceramics and latch hook were her two favorites. She loved to read and work puzzle books. Her favorite pastime and the joy of her life were her children and grandchildren. Her life centered around them and she so enjoyed being part of their lives. Eve was a loving mother and grandmother who will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. She was a member of the East Ave. United Methodist Church in York.

She is survived by her children, Connie and husband Dale Landrus, Michael Weis, Susan Schulz and Nancy Galaway all of York; sister, Ruby and husband John Minert of Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren, Sara, Joshua, Shaina, and Jared Schulz and Jordan Galaway all of York; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 9th at Metz Chapel in York with Rev. Art Phillips officiating. Inurnment in the McCool Cemetery near McCool Jct. Cremation. No visitation. Memorials in care of the family.

Metz Mortuary in York is handling of arrangements.

Harold Jacobson

Oxbow, Saskatchewan, Canada resident, 75

Harold Jacobson, 75, of Oxbow, Sask., Canada, died July 2, 2004 at his home. He was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Renville County, McKinney Township, N.D., the son of William and Gertrude (Schweitzer) Jacobson.

Harold attended country schools in the Norma area. He lived most of his adult live in Flaxton. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving in the Pacific Theater for four years, participating in Operation Crossroads, stationed in Hawaii, the Aleutian Islands in Alaska and San Diego. He was honorably discharged Aug. 2, 1949.

He married Marie Wolkenhauer July 31, 1952. He worked for various farmers in the Northgate area until he began farming on his own.

He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. They would incorporate their winter travels to include family member visits.

His passion was ham radio operating where he achieved the highest license classification of "extra". He was a national examiner for American Amateur Radio League. He enjoyed designing, making and testing antennas and attended many ham events throughout the years. The past several winters were spent in Arizona and southern California.

He had a soft spot in his heart for animals, having several pets, most recently his dog AntonioNeedAHome, "Tony".

Harold was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Flaxton, holding several positions on the church board; was a member of the Flaxton Fire Department and a 50-year member of Flaxton American Legion.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Marie; son Charles (JoAnn) Oxbow; daughters, Corrine (Ken) Bruns, Waco, Donna (Michael) Schmit, Kenmare, N.D., Gail (Bill) Gerber, Bragg Creek, AB; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ray, Tacoma, Wash., William Jr., Federal Way, Wash., Gordon, Fairfield, Calif.; two sisters, Delores Rodgers, Virginia, Diania Johnson, Underwood, N.D. and aunt, Doris Jacobson, Kenmare, N.D. Preceded by parents; sisters, Margaret Hagen and Sharon Olheiser; brothers, Donavon, Howard and Carol (Laverne) Jacobson and grandson, Jacob Schmit.

John S. Wyman

Gresham resident, 63

John S. Wyman, age 63 years, of Gresham, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Norfolk, Nebraska. John was born on May 26, 1941 at Chattanooga, Tennessee to William and Virginia (Brown) Wyman. At the age of twelve years he moved with his family to Montgomery, Alabama, where he resided until entering the U.S. Army in September of 1958. John was honorably discharged from the Army in 1959, and was united in marriage to Martha Kirkpatrick on December 11, 1959 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The couple then resided in Chicago, Illinois until 1976, when they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and later to Firth, Nebraska. They moved to the Gresham area in 1987. John's favorite interests included fishing, hunting, trap shooting, and stock cars, and he cherished his time spent on weekends with his children doing such activities as flying kites and grilling outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Wyman of Gresham, Nebraska; two daughters: Sabrina Taylor of Gresham, Nebraska and Tanya Ramirez of Lincoln, Nebraska; one son, John (and his wife, Michelle) Wyman of Gresham, Nebraska; eight grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Betty and Linda Wyman), and one brother (Bruce Wyman).

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 12, 2004 at the Lewis Funeral Chapel in York, Nebraska with Pastor Keith Bateman officiating. Visitation will be at the Lewis Funeral Chapel in York from noon to 9:00 PM on Saturday, 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sunday, and 9:00 AM until service time on Monday. Memorials may be given in care of the family. Lewis Funeral Chapel of York is in charge of arrangements.

Janice A. Wiemer

York resident, age 59

Janice A. Wiemer, age 59, of York, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at York. She was born June 30, 1944 at York to Carl and Vivian (Gardiner) Rieger. Janice was a 1962 graduate of Utica High School. On Feb. 15, 1964 she was married to William J. Wiemer at Utica. She was longtime member of the Utica American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband Bill Wiemer of York; sons Ralph "R.C." of York and Scott (Amy) Wiemer of York; daughters, Jody Wiemer of York and Kristi (Jeff) Pinneo of McCool Junction; grandchildren, Trey, Sydney and Courtney Wiemer, and Morgan and Maegan Pinneo. Also surviving are her mother Vivian Rieger of Utica; sister Gladys (Roy) Wiemer of York; brothers, Robert (Valora) Rieger of Raytown, Mo., and Donald (Maxine) Rieger of Gresham; mother-in-law Bernice Wiemer of York. Preceding her in death were her father Carl Rieger and father-in-law Ralph Wiemer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Metz Chapel in York with burial in the Waco Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will begin at noon on Friday. Condolences may be emailed to metz@metzmortuary.com. Metz Mortuary of York is handling the arrangements.

Nancy R. Norquest

Nancy R. Norquest, 61, of York, died Monday, June 19, 2000 at the Fairview Manor Care Center in Fairmont. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool Junction with Pastor Paul H. Konig officiating.

Mildred Darlene Widler

Mildred Darlene Widler, 64, formerly of York, died Monday, June 19, 2000 at Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, June 22, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Rev. Arthur Brinkmeyer officiating.

Ervin James Scheil

Ervin James Scheil, 64, of Warsaw, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2000 in Climax Springs, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 15, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, Mo.

Ronald Liberte

Ronald Liberte, 49, of Hickman, formerly of York and Geneva, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, at 9 a.m., at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, at 6800 S. 14th.

Mary I. "Dot" Fuller

Mary I. "Dot" Fuller, 93, of York, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at York. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 30, at the Metz Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Terry Andrews officiating.

Maude W. James

Maude W. James, 96, of Fairmont, formerly of York, died Sunday, May 21, 2000 in Fairmont. Services were held Thursday at Metz Chapel in York with the Rev. Ralph Ford officiating.

Rebecca L. Tracy

Rebecca L. Tracy, 17, of Hebron, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at Hebron. Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church in Hebron on Sunday, May 28, at 3 p.m., with Minister John R. Walton officiating.

Arthur W. Ahlquist

Arthur W. Ahlquist, 96, of Stromsburg, died Monday, May 29, 2000 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Bob Johnson officiating.

John "Johnny" Fox, Jr.

John "Johnny" Fox, Jr., 79, of Aurora and formerly of Beaver Crossing, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, in Aurora. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 31, at 2 p.m., at the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Moyer officiating.

Robert D. "Bob" Jacobsen

Robert D. "Bob" Jacobsen, 54, of McCool Junction, died Saturday, May 27, 2000 in Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 3, at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Revs. Jaclyn Hoy and Betsy Galaway-Carew officiating.

Glen Allen Petersen, 77, of Stromsburg, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola. Services were today at 10 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Keith Brozek officiating. Burial was at the Stromsburg Cemetery.
