Alvin L. Gordan
Bradshaw resident, 77
Alvin L. Gordan, age 77 of Bradshaw, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004 at York. Alvin was born on a farm northeast of Bradshaw on October 22, 1926 to Alvin C. and Etta H. (Edmunds) Gordan.
He attended Bradshaw High School and graduated in 1944. He then attended the University of Nebraska for one semester before being drafted into the US Navy and served two years during WWII. Following his discharge he attended Nebraska Wesleyan where he completed his college degree.
Alvin married Irma Elizabeth Kotas on June 5, 1949 at Milligan, Neb. Al taught school for a year at Meadow Grove and then joined Bonsall Pool Co. in Grand Island. Then in 1977 he joined his brother Bill in York Oliver Sales until his retirement in 1995.
Al was a member of the Bradshaw United Methodist Church, Bradshaw Volunteer Fireman (over 27 years) and had been a member of the Bradshaw Village Board. He was also very active in the Hampton Masonic Lodge #245, Soloman Chapter #33 Royal Arch Masons, Naomi Chapter #26 in Geneva and Jappa Commandry #17 Knights Templar of York. He had been the head of all these Masonic groups and received the Knight York Cross of Honor in 1976. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Shrine and the York County Historical Assn. Alvin kept the records and was active in the Bradshaw Alumni Assn. and the Plainfield Cemetery Board.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Beth of Bradshaw; two daughters, Joyce (Jim) Campbell of Lincoln and Patricia (David) Collister of Dwight; son, James Gordan of Bradshaw; grandchildren, Mark and Nicole Bergen, Liz Bogen, Melanie and her husband Dan Collister-Foulk, Brian and Cody Campbell, John, Jayme and MaKenzie Gordan; great-grandchildren Anya and Sean Bogen; sister-in-law Elisa Gordan and her son (nephew) William B. Gordan of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Lee Holtmeier of Grand Island and Mary Ann and Roger Rut of Lincoln and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bradshaw United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Kottas officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Plainfield Cemetery west of Bradshaw. Visitation will begin on Friday at noon. Memorials may be directed to the Bradshaw First United Methodist Church or to the Bradshaw Fire Department.

David H. Friesen, 91, of Lincoln, formerly of Henderson, died Tuesday, October 12, 2004 in Lincoln. He was born April 6, 1913 in rural Hamilton County to Gerhard & Katharina (Huebert) Friesen. David was a farmer and did some carpenter work after retiring from the farm. He was a charter member of Calvary Bible Church of Henderson.
David is survived by his daughters: Jo Ann R. Lantzer (Lee) of Milan, MI and Velda K. Brady (Michael) of Lincoln, NE. Grandchildren; Joni Lantzer (Rob) of Lewistown, MT, Angela Lantzer Pheleps (Scott) of Denton, MT, Kelli Lantzer Hofer (Tim) of Pueblo, CO, Ryan C. Brady of Sterling, NE, Nathan M. Brady of Lincoln, NE. Great Grandchildren; Joshua, Joel and Jessica Oderman of Lewistown, MT, Kale, Kyler and Kade Pheleps of Denton, MT, Emma, Jared, and Cooper Hofer of Pueblo, CO, Miakayla & Kelsey Brady of Lincoln, NE. She was born March 18, 1912 in Villisca, Iowa to Reese C. and Elizabeth E. (Stever) James.
Surviving are one daughter, two sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Noyd of York; one brother, Reese (Luetta) James Jr. of Lincoln; two sisters-in-law, Mary James of McCool Jct., Betty James of Valley and many nieces and nephews. Preceded by her parents; husband; one daughter; three sisters and five brothers.
Robert Gene Poppe

Robert Gene Poppe, age 55 of Shelby passed away January 29, 2005 at the Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Febrary 1, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Roberts-Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Jamie Norwich McLannan officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, January 31, 2005 at Roberts-Dubas Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment is in the Union Cemetery south of Shelby. With military rites by the Shelby American Legion. Memorials are suggested to the family. Roberts-Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola is in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born December 8, 1949 to Walter and Marie (Ehlers) Poppe at Deshler, Nebraska. He attended St. John's Lutheran School (a one room school house) in Chester, Neb. through the 8th grade. He graduated from Chester High School in 1968. He then served in the United States Army from 1970-1976.
In 1975 Robert was united in marriage to this union one daughter and two sons were born. In 1982 the Poppe family moved to Shelby and he worked in the area for a few years. In 1987 he started working for the Village of Shelby doing Village maintenence. During this time he was involved on several boards and enjoyed helping many people in Shelby. He could always be counted on to lend a hand. In 1987, he joined the Shelby volunteer fire department and for six years he served as Shelby's Fire Chief.
Roger was a memeber of the American Legion Post 0500 in Lincoln, and he loved the outdoors and helping a local farmer with harvest. His favorite past time was to spend time socializing with his friends. Whether it was in Shelby, at various celebrations throughout Nebraska, or going to the Country Stampede in Manhattan, Kansas.
Survivors include one daughter, Daisy Jane of Shelby; two sons, Lucas Leon of Lincoln and Matthew Allen of Columbus; four brothers, Floyd Poppe of Beatrice, Marvin (Joyce) Poppe of Belleville, Kansas, Melvin (Lorie) Poppe of Sutton; twin brother Richard (Vicki) Poppe of Byron; three sisters, Arlene (Loren) Bohling of Chester, Maxine (Lyle) Watkins of Chester, Phyllis (Larry) Harms of Lincoln. And a host of other relatives and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Marie (Ehlers) Poppe, one brother, Lavern and one sister, Lenetta.
