Freda Wyant

York resident, 98

Freda B. Wyant, 98, of York died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in York.

She was born May 21, 1902, at Veley, Penn., to George and Levona Burns. She married Roy O. Wyant on Sept. 18, 1920, in Mount Morris, N.Y. He died in 1961. She was a longtime telephone operator and a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Dansville, N.Y.

She is survived by one son, Fred (Betty) Wyant, York; two daughters, Jean (Tracy) Calkins and Doris Atkins, both of Dallas, Texas; 17 grandchildrenp; 36 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Metz Chapel in York. Further services will be held in Dansville, N.Y., and burial in the Arkport Cemetery, Arkport, N.Y. Memorials are suggested to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation. Metz Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.

Pat Scheil

Kearney resident, 52

Pat Scheil, 52, of Kearney, formerly of Bradshaw, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at Kearney. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.

Anna Zieg

York resident, 100

Anna Elinora Zieg, 100, of York died Oct. 21, 2000, at the Hearthstone Care Center in York.

Anna was born June 6, 1900, to August and Mary (Nelson) Ahlgren at Swede Home, the youngest of five daughters. She spent her youth in Stromsburg where the family made their home. She married George Zieg of York on Sept. 2, 1915. They lived in York where George operated a water tower painting business. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of York, the evening circle and the sewing circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband George in 1949; a two-year-old son, Charles Willard in 1918; her parents; four sisters; and a great-granddaughter.

Anna is survived by two sons, Hubert (Sylvia) Zieg of York and Robert (Mary) Zieg of Lake Worth, Fla.; grandchildren, Ed (Nancy) Zieg of Houston, Texas, Tim (Lynda) Zieg of York, George Zieg and Michelle Zieg, both of Omaha; great-grandsons, Cary (Laura) Zieg of York, Craig Zieg of Houston, and Michael Zieg of Denver, Colo.; step grandchildren, Shannon and Jason Pardun of Seattle, Wash.; two great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great grandchild, and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Metz Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the Hearthstone Care Center or Presbyterian Church. The remains will be cremated. There will be no visitation. Metz Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Scheil

Kearney resident, 52

Patricia Kay Scheil, 52, of Kearney, former longtime Bradshaw resident, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at her home in Kearney.

She was born Jan. 8, 1948, at Rapid City, S.D., to Charles and Mary M. (Harrington) Dwyer. Pat worked in international sales with Chief Industries at Kearney.

She is survived by two sons, Todd Scheil and his fiance Valarie Wichman of Bradshaw and Chad Scheil of New Orleans, La.; two grandchildren, Morgan Michel of York and Dillon Wichman of Bradshaw. She is also survived by a special friend, Mike Gudney of Independence, Kan.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the Bradshaw United Methodist Church with the Rev. Seth Leypoldt. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation will begin Thursday afternoon at Metz Mortuary of York, which is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Medinger

Richard M. Medinger of Schuyler, 68, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Alegent Health Memorial Hospital in Schuyler.

He was born on Feb. 12, 1932, in rural Butler County, near Bellwood, to Clarence and Anna (Tajchman) Medinger.

He attended Butler Co. District #3 and Marietta High School. He was married on Aug. 12, 1985, at York, to Rose (Feik) Walsh Medinger, who died Aug. 19, 2000. He farmed in the Octavia area for much of his life. He also owned and operated a rock shop at his farm. He and his wife lived in Arizona from 1987 to 1996. They resided at Schuyler since 1996. He was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church.

Survivors include two stepsons, Ivan (Sharon) Walsh of Grand Island and Glen (Janet) Walsh of York; two step daughters, Bernadette (Roger) Reetz of Pueblo West, Colo., and Florence (Rex) Charlton of York; eight step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Rose.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, all at Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel in Schuyler. A Rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel. Father William Whelan will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in York. Memorial donations may be made to St. Augustine's Parish Hall Building Fund.

Margaret Dehn

Margaret Lucille Dehn, 76, of Apache Junction, Ariz., formerly of Gresham, Ore., died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in Mesa, Ariz.

She was born Oct. 29, 1923, in McCool Junction, the daughter of Melvin Oscar and Myrtle Edith Ogden Cudaback. She was a member of Mountain View Christian Church in Gresham, Ore.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Harold J. Dehn; two daughters, Patti (Mark) Teats of Mesa, Ariz., and Teresa (David) Rolls of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Jean Schmer of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Don Cudaback of Milwaukie, Ore.; three granddaughters and one great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gaylord Cudaback.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 22, at 3 p.m. at Mariposa Gardens Chapel, 6747 East Broadway Road, Mesa, Ariz. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Willamette Christian Evangelistic Association, 444 North Holly St., Canby, Ore. 97013. Mesa Funeral Care at Mariposa Gardens, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Larkin

Stromsburg resident, 87

Helen T. Larkin, 87, of the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg, formerly a long-time resident of rural Bradshaw, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital in Osceola.

She was born July 3, 1913, in Agnew to Charles and Mary (Zimmerman) Barry. She attended school in Agnew and St. Ursula's Academy for Girls in York. Following her high school graduation she completed Normal Training.

On Jan. 23, 1936, she married John Larkin at St. Joseph's Church in York. Her husband, John, preceded her in death in February of 1950. Helen taught school for several years and substitute taught for many years. She was very involved in school activities and served on the school board for several years. She was a 4-H leader for many years and served on the York County Fair Board. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and Altar Society. Helen sold Avon products for 26 years. She loved bringing her products to her customers and had a special relationship with each of them. She liked to read and work crossword puzzles and enjoyed the reputation of being a wonderful cook.

Helen is survived by son, Jack (Sheila) Larkin of Austin, Texas; daughters, Janet (Leon) Doud of Jasper, Ark.; Joan (Steve) Janusz of Northfield, Minn., and Jean (James) Monnier of Bradshaw. Also surviving are two sisters, Rita Dorsa and Marguerite Byers of Los Banos, Calif., 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband John; parents; brothers, Joseph, Lee, George, Lawrence and William; sisters, Mother Agnita and Sister Mary Dolorice; and one infant grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24, at St. Joseph's Church in York. A Rosary will be at Metz Mortuary on Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at 7 p.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg or St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York.

James Hubbard

Washington, N.C., resident, 60

James Elbert Hubbard, 60, of 71 Duck Creek Shores Road, Washington, N.C., died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at the Beaufort County Hospital in Washington, N.C.

He was born Oct. 1, 1940, in McDowell County, W.V., the son of the late Henry Lane and Virgie Jackson Hubbard. He attended the Davy Elementary School and was a graduate of Welch High School in Welch, W.V. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the American Legion Post #15, Washington, N.C., and the V.F.W. Post #2243, in Kimball, Neb. He was a self-employed aerial applicator crop duster and member of the N.C. Agriculture Aviation Association.

Survivors include two daughters, LaShelle Hubbard Zimmer, and her husband, Mike of Syracuse, Neb., and Angela Hubbard Meradith of York; one son, James Patrick Hubbard of Washington, N.C.; two sisters, Holly Sue H. Cox and her husband Donald of Hazel Green, Wis., Ginny Lou H. Driewer and her husband Doug of Bradshaw; two brothers, Gerald Lane Hubbard and his wife Connie of York, and Thomas Lee Hubbard of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Landon Zimmer, Savannah Zimmer, Daniel Meradith, Brandon Meradith, Sierra Bluhm and Dalton Bluhm; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Todd Hubbard, and one daughter, Shannon Bluhm.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Hillside Funeral Service. Interment of the cremains will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery in York.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the James Elbert Hubbard Memorial Fund, c/o 657 West Sixth St., York, Neb., 68467-2808.

Ruth Lott

York resident, 91

Ruth M. Lott, 91, of York, died Saturday afternoon, October 21, 2000 at The Hearthstone Care Center in York.

She was born on January 17, 1909 at Omaha to John William and Sarah Edna (Brandenburg) Stapleton. She attended and graduated from York Public Schools in 1927. She was united in marriage to Bryan Franklin Lott, D.V.M. on October 1, 1933. She worked with her husband in his Veterinary practice in York as bookkeeper and office manager until his death in 1965. Ruth was a long-time member of the Baptist Congregational Church in York.

Survivors include two sons, David Peter Lott, D.V.M. of Tremont, Ill., and John Bryan (Jane) Lott, D.D.S. of York; four grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Kowalski, M.D. of Fort Wayne, Ind., David Bryan Lott, Ph.D. of Clarion, Pa., Abbie (Brad) Burk of Los Alamos, N.M., and Katie (Toby) Comer, D.D.S. of York; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Madeline, and Emmaline Kowalski and Kaylie Burk.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Bryan F. Lott on April 6, 1965), her granddaughter (Heidi Marie Lott, D.V.M.), and her great-grandson (Daniel Luke Kowalski).

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000 at the Lewis Funeral Chapel in York with Philip Towle officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery at York. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in care of the Baptist Congregational Church at York. Lewis Funeral Chapel of York is in charge of arrangements.

Lorraine Eynetich

Grafton resident, 75

Lorraine V. Eynetich, 75, of Grafton died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in Geneva.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1925, at Fishcreek to Addison and Eva (Hepp) Crumrine.

Survivors include her husband, Antone B. Eynetich of Grafton; daughters, Vicky (Daryl) Strothkamp of Geneva and Cheryl (Kent) Myers of Geneva; sisters, Harriette Todd of Omac, Wash., Elizebeth (Lee) Gillespie of Lincoln; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at St. Helena Catholic Church in Grafton. A Rosary service will be Monday at 7:30 p.m., at St. Helena Catholic Church in Grafton. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m., Monday, at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Graveside services will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Grafton with Father Mark Pfieffer officiating. Memorials may be give to the family in lieu of flowers.

Ann Spurlock

Estes Park, Colo., resident, 89

Ann E. Spurlock, longtime resident of Estes Park, Colo., died June 28, 2000, at her home in Estes Park.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1910, in San Angelo, Texas, to Norman and Ann E. May (Hendricks) Taylor. In the summer of 1932 she met her husband Burwell and they were married in 1933 in Longmont, Colo. They lived in Berkeley and Lafayette, Calif., for many years, retiring to Estes Park in 1970.

Burwell Spurlock is the son of George M. Spurlock, who was a longtime attorney and judge in York, and the grandson of Burwell Spurlock who managed the Mother's Jewels Home in York for many years. She is survived by her husband Burwell of Estes Park; two daughters, Virginia Reavill of Idaho Falls, Ida., and Drury Spurlock of Estes Park; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at the Greenwood Cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church of Estes Park, 1509 Fish Hatchery Road, Estes Park, Colo., 80517.

Florence Nichols

Fairmont resident, 92

Florence M. Nichols, 92, of Fairmont, widow of Everett E. Nichols, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, in Fairmont. She was born to Ora and Berniece (Nichols) Robbins on May 7, 1908, at Fairmont.

Survivors include her son, Gene E. (Marilyn) Nichols of Fairmont; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Nichols of Geneva; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, at Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont. The Rev. Betsy Galloway-Carew will officiate. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Memorials may be directed to Fairmont Community Church or Fairmont Fire and Rescue Squads. Graveside services will be held at Fairmont Public Cemetery in Fairmont.
